Hey there guys, I recently got an Xperia Play brand new from O2, and I am very pleased with it - except that it's pretty much impossible to play games on it. I find whether I use the gaming buttons, or the touch screen, there is about a half-second lag between making an input and something actually happening, which pretty much ruins every game. I have tried PlayStation Pocket games like Crash Bandicoot, Android games like Asphalt 6 and emulators like Snes9x EX, and they all have this lag. I have Advanced Task Killer and use it each time before playing. My friend suggested that it could be due to the bloatware on my phone, but I can't root it to get rid of it because Gingerbreak doesn't work on my Android version (2.3.3) yet, and I don't fancy risking the iffy-looking downgrade (unless you guys are sure it's safe). My model number is R800i. Do you have any suggestions, please? Thank you very much in advance!

That and get the Apps2SD app to move everything you can to the SD card.
If you root there is a better one I believe it is called Platinum or something?
if you're going down that line, use adb and move ALL your apps to the SD, you'll save loads of memory and make your phone lightening fast. Also, root and remove bloatware!
Can you do that without the Root? I don't want to root because I'm to impatient to wait for updates to be rooted.

Can't work
Hi all, I am using Gingerbread 2.3.3 now and the gameboid refuse to work. When I tried to upload a ROM, then suddenly it stopped functioning. It worked perfectly fine when I use Froyo 2.2.1. Can someone help me? or do I need to downgrade it to Froyo just for Gameboid.
Your a lifesaver. I searched earlier this year for this and struggled to find it. Pokemon FTW
I have only had the phone a few days and having installed about 10apps the performance of the phone has slowed a lot.i have task killer installed and making sure I'm shutting down most apps when not in use, But everything has slowed since I installed the last fm app
Is there a directory where temp files are stored?
Any help would be great!
Chances are pretty high that you have the same problem as I did, that one of the apps are slowing it down in some manner. You could also replace the TwLauncher (Samsungs ****ty home app) with something like Launcher Pro, which is my recommendation. Just doing that will garner you some performance help.
I already useG launcher pro, but I just restarted my phne and its sped up again.and my ram has increased also.I'm confused
Flash your phone with the modaco Rom and run the lag fix script. This is a temporary problem and a temporary fix. Samsung will fix it soon. They know about it but the phone was rushed out. Needs upgrading that's all. Mine runs very smoothly.

Doesn't look like an Android problem, but a phone specific so you need to rely on a fix from Samsung.
As mentioned above, nothing to do with Android ~ just bad coding on the part of software Apps installed.
What I have done and recommended to many is to get hold of the App 'SystemPanel'.
There are two versions available on The Market ~ SystemPanel Lite (Free) & SystemPanel App (Paid).
Try the Lite version first. It will firstly allow you to see exactly which application is hogging your system/taking memory/using battery performance/etc./etc.
It has detailed graphs/plots and about everything but the kitchen sink added to aid you in finding what is going on.
On top of that it also has the most detailed selection process of closing down Apps.
I purchased it almost immediately and know many others who have followed suit.
I don't get any further performance issues ~ period.
I have 150 apps, and yes there is slowness, i am also using minfreemanager on aggressive setting and this makes a HUGE difference.
Not sure what google can do about bad coding, is there a way to figure out which apps can cause slowness?

I read somewhere that the lag fix will recreate the problem of Android, which is low space to install apps!!

If you really want to find out what is slowing down your system then yes, use SystemPanel.
I can't remember what the difference is between the Lite & Full version.
All I know is I found it looked that good I get the Full version and have not looked back since.
The Lite version will give you some indication what the program does but please check what you get extra in the Full version.

Tried and failed, it just hangs with "waiting for device".
you have to change the 3 files with adb in the folder to the ones that u used with the x10 sdk..
also make sure ur x10 drivers r updated...
So, can you guys with 2.1 describe the "feel"?
Is it like more fluently to work on X10 or is it laggy as someone said? I hoped with 2.1 all lags would dissappear, like when unlocking, opening mediascape, etc..
10X more fluid from the hour and a half I have spent with it.
With 2.1, X10 feels more "smooth", however we still have our fps capped at 32. What's more, SMS Popup's LED blink option does not work D:
And yeah, it might feel "laggier than 1.6" as long as you won't free up some RAM
Fix for the market
Here is how to fix the market
You go into the Talk application and press the button with four boxes and press more. Click Sign out and restart the downloads

Holla,
What is the advantage of using more recent versions of Android compared to older ones? I have a HD2 with Android 2.2.1, is there any purpose to update it with Gingerbread?
Warmest regards from a stoked HD2 user.
To be honest, I found very little difference with Gingerbread. I did end up going back to a Froyo build though because there were a number of apps that didn't work with Gingerbread, or they did but not fully.
I liked the keyboard and the notification bar, but that was about it. Let's face it, they can be changed anyway!
I think the only real difference I've seen is the text editing where you can select text more easily. Other than that, it's just personal preference. I'm sticking with it though

The differences between froyo and gingerbread are minimal. if you are such a fanatic (like me) who want to have the best of the best, you should updated. Otherwise it would be better to keep froyo on your phone, because its faster (300 or more points more in quadrant) and all apps work with froyo. gb is a lil bit unstable (however) and 40% of all apps won' work with gb. the new keyboard looks better but it's annoying to have so small buttons on this keyboard with such a big screen. i don't use the stock keyboard and notification bar is not as amazing as people say. believe me, kepp up froyo for maybe 2 months and then you can think about changing ^^
Thanks
Thanks dudes for all the feedback! Guess I will stay with my setup I have, I thought games and graphics ran smoother with a new release.
Cheers,
Mike

I had a few that didn't work, but couldn't tell you now what they are other than 1 for sure.
I use SwitchPro (very configurable power widget) and half of the toggles stopped working. For example, if I clicked the GPS toggle it did nothing. At first I thought it was because GPS didn't work on the build I was using, but if I went into settings I could turn it on there without a problem, and it worked fine.
Like I said, there were a few apps I noticed wouldn't work, but that's the only one I can remember.

I know one that doesn't fully work. it's AirSync DoubleTwist its not compatible with GB yet, it gives you "Network Error" when you try to connect wirelessly. But when I switched back to Froyo it works again.

It works, thanks!! I have a question: is any app or system settings to my HD2, who's give me a capability to run games from sd card ?
I'm gonna wait until there's more app compatibility, as right now I don't really see any big reasons to switch yet. I also don't 100% trust ext4 yet, as I've encountered the known issues with large files on my Ubuntu server(which may just be due to Ubuntu implementation). I doubt it would crop up on the HD2, but still...
Gingerbread 2 major chances are :
OpenGL ES2.0 (not backwork compatible with 1.1)
Built in SIP client (Enterprise usage)
other than those two, the rest are fixes.
i have the same prob as miod3k... do i hav to shift the apps to phone for it to work...i mean my other apps lik palringo n facebook n stuff lik that r in the sd card...
When I run Android on my Leo the battery was discharge very fast(about 8 hours). Do you now what the problem is ?
If you are frustrated with Samsungs total lack of support for this new device let me share with you some solutions that will make you change your mind about how you feel about your new Galaxy Tab WiFy only.
First; Root it!!!

Second; Download One Click Lag Fix from the Market ,
this is a magical app for this Galaxy Tab , it unlocks its full potential. Thank you Ryan!!! Give him a raise please!
Just make sure BEFORE you run the app move ALL of your apps from the SD Card and place them back on your device, you can move them back to the SD Card after you run the app if you like. If you try and run this app with apps on the SD Card you will send your device into a boot loop so please make note of this.

but to answear ur question directly when u install z4root and open the app it will say root,
if its already rooted u should see re-root or undo root..
Thanks
After rooting look for Skype to uninstall but not there. The issue is that if installed then uninstalled Skype seems to leave, based on other board comments, that residual Data file and thus can't be reinstalled. My understanding is that once rooted one can then locate that hidden file and delete it so can reinstall Skype but this doesn't seem to be the case, does it? I can't find that file.
When Temp rooted and restart z4Root it does offer an Re-root option so (now using V1.3) it has been rooted.
Perhaps there is a difference in rooting between Temp & Permanent but wouldn't think so
Appreciate your help

Any luck finding the solution???
Best regards
Jerome
You need to be rooted and use an explorer, run a search for Skype and delete everything it finds.
