Got my HD2 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Just got an HD2. It had some froyo rom on it. First thing I did when I got home was put WP7 on it. Very easy, and I'm loving the HD2. Multitouch is a little awkward, but the OS is rocking.
However, I noticed I installed an old version of the OS, and I wanted to upgrade to a custom ROM. I'm not sure if I would have to reactivate it after upgrading the ROM? If I do have to reactivate it, would microsoft do it if I gave them the same information as before?

you can use the same activation key that you already have received from MS.

What if I didn't write it down somewhere..? Lol.

Out of luck friend...request a new one or talk to MS customer support and tell them you lost it and reset your device or something.

[Q] "Mobile of the year '09" bull****

I just got my HD2 back from repairs after 1 month now, I had the problem where the phone freezes up when I recieve calls. This got fixed, and I have not noticed any of the symtoms I had earlier. But now...
1. The FM-Radio does not work.
2. When I connect my phone to my computer, my computer sais: "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. for assistance in solving this problem, click this message." And just connect - disconnect - connect - disconnect.
3. When I turn on my cellphone, I get a warning: BTTrayCE er ikke et gyldig Pocket Pc-program. (BTTrayCE is not a valid Pocket PC-program in English)
It just kills me that the phone that actually won the "Mobile of the year '09" by Amobil.no, sucks more than the Iphone.
Should I just send my phone back to repairs again, or do you guys have any idea how to fix this without using another month in repairs?
OS: 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
ROM: 1.66.409.1 (76641) NOR
Manila: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM-date: 01/12/2010
Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
First off, I'm sorry to see that your phone is having these issues. Mine has worked like a charm ever since I installed the first custom ROM.
Now my question; have you HSPL'ed your phone yet?
You could try installing another (custom) ROM and a newer radio version to see if it helps.. It might aswell fix your problems.

I did use HSPL before I sent my phone to repairs, but it did not fix any problems, therefore I do not believe in HSPL'ing anymore.. I did not notice any difference at all, after installing a custom rom, or radio..
I see.. Have you tried Task29 yet? (Formatting it completely)
And then installing the latest Radio + a custom rom? (Before trying this, be SURE you have HSPL'ed it!)
If you've already tried that, I think the only thing you'd be able to do is to get a huge stone (or your HD2 itself), put a note on it saying 'It still does not work properly', and throwing it through the window of any HTC office in your country .
Or just open a ticket/calling them saying it still doesn't work and that you demand a replacement/new phone, as how it is now it's kinda an expensive brick.

I just don't dare to do this, I have hacked TomTom, but this seems too dangerous, I'm still a noob in cellphone programming and stuff...

Do HTC even bother about their customers? Doesn't seem so, seeing that if the cellphone should have any problems of this sort, they say you will get a new phone. But rather getting a new phone, I got the old one back, in worse condition than before.
Also, I wonder if they can check my problems? Because we have a law in Norway, if the same problem occours after 3 times repaired, you can either get a new phone or money back (same with all other electronics). So could I just lie and say I have the same problem + the new problems? **** the ethics ..

Task29 isn't that risky.. Just run HSPL again and get that done, then run the packed exe as found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781. As long as you press the VolDown button when it restarts, you will be totally fine. However in your case, I'd indeed not expect much improvement, as it really seems to be a hardware problem.

I think it is all the same with those big corporations. One customer, who cares? As long as their phones sell, why would they bother? Same story all over again.
I'd go for the three strikes = new phone way. However, it does suck to have your phone taken away from you for another month or so..
sorry mate..mine works like a charm since day one must be just u it still is the best phone
lmao it has some disadvantages (like tft screen,no tv out/hdmi out/crap loudspeaker) but lmao its still better than most phones out there

Guess what, it is the lastest stock, I just checked it.. Norwegian atleast, and I don't bother using other languages (even English). Just posted a ticket on HTC.com/no, and then I will send it to repairs again, and again, and then I'm changing to a Samsung Galaxy S..
I've heard Samsung support is even worse than HTC..
But indeed, the Galaxy S does have features that our phone lacks.. Still, I think the HD2 looks more sexy.

The HD2 looks way better, I do agree. But my brother bought himself a samsung galaxy s, and he's going to start making games and apps, so he could teach me a little bit, and if I have problems, I could go to him rather than sending it to repairs, (not all problems are easily solved on the intarwebz) and then I'd get rid of Windows Mobile..
Sorry to hear that you have such hard issues with your HD2.

I had the same issue too. TomTom replaces two BT files (Your bluetooth should not work by now) so the BT application can not start up properly. THIS fixes at least this problem (Use Resco Explorer or TotalCommander and unhide system files).
I hope you'll find help for your other issues, too.

Well, instead of buying a licence, you hack it, using a keygen of some sort :S Didn't quite get what I did, but I used CMD to open a keygen and create a file :S Was weird, but hey, I did it... After 2 hours of trying
Easy when you know how, but im sure its not something that should be discussed on the forums. (WTB TomTom for sale from the australian site, as i feel its worth the cash)
anyway, darkkoushirou is correct regarding TomTom + Bluetooth.
I found it easier to install it to the SD card then factory reset. Once thats done i used total commander to simply copy a link back into your start menu.
Now that my custom ROM has XDA_UC i have set it to auto-copy the link back to my start menu after each rom upgrade
I know that when i got the handset i was trying many different apps, some of which caused issues. Once you get an idea of the ones you need, doing a factory reset is recommended. Then only install the 'good' ones.

[Q] Activation Limit

I've been looking through the forums and people have mentioned activation limits. I'm planning on installing WP7 to have a play around, but I can see myself going back to 6.5 if it's not what I was expecting. My main concern is that if I use the activation code a couple of times for my HD2, will it stop me from activation my Live account from a future phone if I decide to get a WP7 phone later down the line? Is the code linked to the phone or my personal Live account?
Let me know if that makes no sense, my HD2 contract is coming up for renewal soon and I don't want to screw myself if I decide to upgrade my phone.
Thanks!
i believe when you buy a phone wit pre-installed windows phone 7 you should not have any difficulties with activation codes. live services should activate automaticly

With the new phone I dont think so. It should be OK. But besides that - create new live id and activate it with this one. Than you could be sure...
whoops double post. something went wrong
No problem as long as you get an activation code first. Its only an activation code for the market place Xboxlive etc. You can use the key 3 times only.
But if you get a HD7 on a contract, then it will come unlocked with all the O2 operator stuff pre-loaded.

It's a good question. Doubt you will have an issue. Pre-installed usually means no code required. I don't get why you would spend money on a WP7 when you have an HD2? I keep hearing 7 runs smoother than anything else, as if it was native.
i was told to keep the key safely when requesting it via the support hotline, because it is necessary e.g. i hardreset my "hd7".
he even told me that if i lose it one phone call is enough to request the same key again. so you can definitely use it mulitple times.
I understood the activation limit was a device activation limit, so multiple activations on the same device would be fine and largely limitless.
May have read that wrongly though...
If you reach the limit, can you just ring up and request a new code?
Guys let me clear this out! Can i use my activation key 3 times only??? Or several times??? 3 times only sucks!!!!

Several times
EDIT: I just did another flash for my new SD card so thats, Several times + 1 more
The same code has worked three times so far for me, twice on my HD2 and once on my Son's.

I didnt reach my limit, but when I accidentally pulled my sd card, and had to do a complete reflash (is that even a word?) I realised I didnt save my original activation code. So I called Microsoft back up, hoping it would work. I told the guy what happened, even told him it was an HD2 running WP7, he said ok, give me one moment. 2 minutes later, I get my second activation code. If this was twitter I would totally put Win with a # in front of it.

[Q]WP7 Flash - ROM Question

Well guys once again im posting a questino regarding my HD2. Ive been browsing the forums and youtube in regards to flashing my HD with wm6.5 to WP7.
Yes i know its going to be buggy but tbh 6.5 is horrible :S Now my question is , Which ROM is reccomended? Im leaning towards http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944995&page=51 as this rom shows GREAT promise. And looks about right. Few questions that ARENT highlighted in the post.
GPRS / HSDPA working?
WIFI Working?
What shall i be prepared to find WONT be working. Also my HD only has a 176MB Internal memory. Obviously 512MB Flash
Will i have to downgrade anything as these are my software stats atm.
OS Version
5.2.21913 ( 21913.5.0.94)
Manilla Version
2.5.20181527.0
ROM Version
3.14.405.2 (04666) WWE
Radio Version
2.15.50.14
PB8100 SS-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
CotullaHSPL
My phone is an insurance replacement that isnt bound to Tmobile UK anymore. So im not worried about voiding my warranty. Im worried about bricking as my Insurance wont cover that
In summary : Which ROM , Any Thing need Upgrading / Downgrading , 2gb SD Card That Ok size wise? Any thing i should be prepared to NOT have working. **** When i need to activate my LIVE Services what if he asks for my IMEI Number? Shall i hangup and redial or give him my HD2's IMEI?
Thanks for the replies and if i have broken any rules please point them out to me. But I want to be PERFECTLY certain that my choice for WP7 is the right one. As im not eligble for an upgrade for another 12 months * 24 Month Contracts FAIL *
Now that´s funny that you get a phone with HSPL - this actually voids your warranty if you send your device to a service center. In other words: Even if you would do nothing right now, you would risk to not get any warranty since HSPL is already on your device.
Or, did you flash HSPL yourself already? Anyway, doesn´t matter here.
As long as the data you listed are 100% accurate, you´re absolutely fine and ready to flash either WP7 or an Android NAND build - because you do have HSPL 2.08 plus the correct Radio ROM already.
Now, you´d have to install MAGLDR 1.13 (tutorial here), and then the WP7 ROM of your choice (I would take one which comes with all Chevron stuff built-in, means those ROMs are jailbroken already). The one you mention runs perfectly here, no problems at all.
Remember, if you want to use Live services, you´ll still need an activation code from Microsoft.
Most everything works in wp7... multitouch is kinda buggy and you only get 2 point multitouch while native wp7 phones have 4 point touch. Other than that, it will work about the same as a native wp7 phone. All the hardware works.. wifi, bluetooth, gps, phone and data. 2gb memory card is fine if that's all the memory you want. But just a warning, wp7 can be very picky about what kind of memory card it'll accept... since it actually uses the sd card as non-removable main memory, it needs cards that has a good random access speed. Give your card a try... if it works and doesn't make wp7 lag or randomly restart, then you're fine. But if it doesn't work, you're going to want to get a new card... sandisk class 2 or 4 seem to most consistently work ok.

Thanks tictac - after alot of INTENSE reading done today while the missus took care of the little one i have deemed a few answers to ALOT of my above questions.
Now you say i alreadyhave HSPL installed. Now NO i didnt install this. As i mentioned in my previous post this is an Insurance replacement. Now after digging around on site ive found another user who also had HSPL already installed on a replacement lol. Supposedly the reason is Suppliers sell 'refurbs' and 'send backs' to insurance companies and they dish these out. I must of got one that somebody had started to hack , and deemed it not worthy. Ive gone with the Xbmod version atm. Only due to the MASS amounts of response. and MYGOD thanks for posting the tutorial on Magldr installing. Ive been having ALOT of trouble getting it going.
Well , Everything is installed with NO hickups. Also have rather more internal Memory spare compared to when i was using Winmo6.5! Now i have a few questions once again.
I obviously want to Use LIVE services. But ive rang support around 4 times and each time they have asked me for an IMEI number. Now this i cant give obviously. I dont suppose there is a workaround for UK customers? And as its an 0844 number it isnt cheap :S
Also - Seen as chevron is already installed do i just follow the usual steps to get live going once i do manage to get an Activation code.
Ok - 1 Other Problem NO WIFI!? Is this the same in all releases?

Aye , That seems logical. Just so annoying trying to get attached to WiFi atm. Wont even find my router :S And EVERYTHING finds it.
Also i have one more problem. When i turn my phone on i have 150MB of free Phone storage , But after 10 Minutes of Use i am down to 5mb and keep getting 'your running low on storage'. Now i had this same problem with my 6.5 randomly telling me im low on storage when im doing nothing.
Is the phone Bugged? Or is the OS bugged?

if not do a Task29 an put MAGLDR (if removed) and flash WP7 again

Not exactly sure, but I don't you think you'll be able to do much of anything without activation. Why don't you go try, then let everyone know if it works.

I've tried three times back in time and then I went back to android. They are still telling me to call them.
The phone works fine without activation, you can still unlock it, however, if its not activated you can kiss goodbye to the marketplace, live services and xbox live
setup a google account to aid you with unlocking it
just phone for activation and kick up a fuss, remain ignorant and pretend you havent got a clue what your doing, speak to a supervisor if you must, i kicked up all manor of ****e when they told me i had to contact O2 and eventually her boss sent me an email with the key.
i think i shouldnt have said it came from O2 and said it was secondhand, perhaps that will work, in any case, MS cant do anything to you other than not giving you the code, your not breaking the law so dont worry about it.
I've tried to activate mine two times with no luck. They wanted me to send them a photo of the front and back of the phone as well as a copy of the sales slip. I sure hope that someone finds a workaround soon.

[Q] How Do You Access Activation Screen, HD2

Microsoft is going to give me a Activation Code, but they need for me to access the Activation Screen on my phone HTC HD2.
This is my first smart phone and I'm lost. HTC can't help me; I finally realized it had to be the Android Forum.
The context of my problem is: previous owner of the phone has his gmail account as default and the only way to get rid of it is by Manufacturers Reset, however the phone won't reset even when being walked through the process with HTC.
Thank you for any help at all.

Maybe you didn't know but why stick with Window 6.5 of yesterday when you can get the latest Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 or even Window7? For the latest awesome Gingerbread follow my sig. When you flash/install a new ROM everything got reset including gmail account. If you're still persist in what you are looking for then use search.
I appreciate your help.
I was able to find someone to put the 2.3.4. on the HTC HD2, but after installing it the screen started to malfunction. He then reverted it back to 2.3.3 and it's still having malfunctions. He is saying that it must be a hardware problem, but this problem didn't exist before he installed it.
Don't know what to do.
I want him to revert it back to stock, so I can use my warranty and send it back to HTC, but he doesn't know how.
I'm wondering what I should do and if it may be a hardware issue. Even though I'm new to the cell phone thing, I can't see how this could be coincidence...I believe it has something to do with what he did.
Anymore help would be very much appreciated.
