As a Sprint Technician, this is by far my favorite thing to do. Even if it isn't necessary, I always dismantle phones and rebuild them just for the hell of it. Many times it'll often fix a lot of small glitches due to faulty assembly in the factory. (i.e.- touch screen bugs, dead keys on physical keyboard, speaker static, etc)

I wouldn't mind learning on how to do that kinda things. I'm a full on techy person, but I don't have the experience on doing that. But I do learn quick though. I would be happy to be a sprint technician. Ha.

I love how open this phone is. Standard #00 phillips screws, and no warranty sticker!

newalker91 said:
All Samsung phones are like that. Very easy to dismantle them and interchange parts. HTC phones are next in line for ease of modding, although it requires the star tip screwdriver which can be tricky to get your hands on. They do although use tamper dots on one screw to know if you opened it, but you can order those online and put it on a screw head to trick it. Sanyo use the triangle tip and quite frankly are made of **** parts so half the time something falls apart when opening it delicately. Motorola is kinda finicky. Blackberry and Palm you aren't even able to open without destroying something, they don't play nice.
Tip to keep your phone running well: open it every few months, use a stiff paintbrush and gently clean all exposed copper with rubbing alcohol and then use compressed air to dry it completely. This helps keep electricity flowing smoothly without interruption by corrosion. It can also prevent shorts and lower heat. Just don't turn it on with any alcohol still on it or you'll fry the phone and don't brush too hard and knock anything off.

Story of my day everyday. As a corporate Sprint tech I take apart around 50+ phones a day.
It's become next to nothing to open any small electronic now...and a few big ones haha.
Sometimes I feel like I'm doing a tear down for liquid damage in my sleep.
I've done it for 7 years now and have been such a good harvester that I've kept my exchange rate down to 18% constant due to my efforts.

so.... did you see why people are having issues with signal?? is there a crappy antenna? etc.

tearing apart a sprint phone is easier than building lego's if you actually feel like doing it.
just don't tear the ribbon.

I do everything within my power to harvest parts and build up a stock of pieces I need, but we can't do any micro-soldering and the damn Evo charging port effs up my exchange rate consistently. Can't harvest motherboards so bleh. A lot of the powercycling problems and such as well are caused by faulty circuits and once again cannot be fixed. Do you have any tips?

None anymore, there was the old Palm circuit board switcharoo, but the newer models don't offer that. I harvest like a mad man though, even Pre sliders, pre earpieces on the top board/screen and things that many are too afraid to harvest (Blackberry tour/bold screens).
Soldering kits are being pulled from the stores too, since we've been scaled back to only soldering old pin charger ports (I still solder wires for earpieces and vibe motors) and those are now defunct.
If blackberry and htc hadn't screwed us over by taking away our soldering efforts with their models, we'd still be doing them today, but, thems the breaks. Hurts both techs and customers but maybe down the line they will rethink it and go with the soldering machines that are used at the warehouse to put new ports on. I'd dance a bit of a jig that day. And I absolutely hate the new standard mirco usb ports, absolutely too small and too fragile and they are on every phone now. Need to go back to mini usb, which was much sturdier. I haven't charged a phone on a cable in years. Cadex or Wall dock chargers for me.
Gives me better battery life, and since I always run 2 batteries I go to work everyday with a fully charged one. Can't beat it.

Well, is it possible to replace the wifi radio in my Nexus S 4G?? The low range and disconnects are killing me! I dont mind voiding my warranty.

Radios and chipsets are embedded into the circuit boards now, they aren't on a socket like CPU's on a computer motherboard, so no, sorry, that's not a removable/replaceable part.

[TOILET AGAIN]Another loser has dropped the SGS right there

Hey, guys. I know there are dozens of threads talking about that, but mine is quite specific. First, the toilet disaster highlights one-to-one:
- phone sitting by the sink, which is close to toilet
- stupid movement and there it was, Skype was on.
- took 3 seconds to ignore all the human dignity I'd had and took the SGS from the water
- removed a crappy silicone cover (this one saved me from a more serious accident) very fast and removed the battery as fast as
- towel, paper-towel, rags
- rice bowl
- youtube video showing disassembly instructions (pretty easy)
- contact cleaner
- rice bowl again
It worked perfectly 24 hours later! Screen on, sound ok... very easy device to open.
Everything was fine until I accidentally hit the voice search and the "sound level meter" didn't move.
Microphone is not working since then. Doesn't work for calls, video with sound, audio note... It works fine with the stock earphone though.
Yes, I restored to factory settings.
Yes, I reflashed and reinstalled the ROM.
When I BLOW (with my mouth) into the mic, nothing happens. But when I SUCK it, the michophone seems to "catch" all the noise. Is this a signal of hope?
I opened it again and sprayed a good contact cleaner, right into the mic. No changes.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!
Phone was placed on the sink with "Skype on". Hmmmm

Oh man grodiest i9000 thread ever.
Did you ever think about to replace the mic?? If ya say its easy to open the phone then you wont have problems to replace the mic I actually dont think its too expansive for ya. So actually its funny to read but I fell with ya. But you shouldnt use skype on the toilet my phone is waiting outside of the bath room, when I'm makin the big deal on the toilet xD
good luck dude
24 hours is way to short to remove water stuck between board and smd components. I think you fired it up to soon. Electronics dont repair themselves, once broken you need to replace parts to get things going again.
Only luck or a wallet can save you now im afraid.
Aww dude no way !!!.
I have had my fair share of phones falling into the loo, Luckily not with my SGS, but with my tocco and my spica.
My tocco survived after leaving it dry on the radiator for a day (on low low temperature)
My spica survived but needed a new screen. which was surprisingly cheap (not genuine part)
Just for my own amusement, Was it a number one or a number two you was doing at the time ?
Funny comments, But serious matter. Take their advice and leave it dry out a little more, You could of made it worse by powering it up. But lets not jump to conclusions just yet,
If drying it out for longer dont work. See if you can make a bit of cash by selling it for parts on ebay or similar.
Oh and is it on a contract ? if so do you have insurance ? or are you close to a renewal ?
Good luck, Hope you get a good outcome

Obviously you will have to mention the water damage.
But some people do buy broken / water damaged stuff.
Might not get a lot of money but it could be better than throwing it in the bin
My phone got drowned in the bottom of bag with a leaking water bottle, similar thing, phone worked but the mic wasn't 100% and the center button did not work at all. Purchased a replacement 3 button membrane they call it off ebay for $25 from UK. The mic is built onto this membrane. Funnily enough button started to work the day before it arrived but I will still replace the membrane just to know the mic is 100% as sometimes it comes across scratchy on the other end.
Hope all goes well for you.

Last time I flooded a phone (lake, beer, boat, he he), I used a food dehydrator. 24 hours in that gadget and all was well. Just last week my brother jumped into the water with his iPhone in the pocket. Same procedure and 24 hours later his phone lives.

Broken screen

Hey yall nothing special but I reancently drop my phone 1 too many time and crack the screen. Does anyone happen to know what phone I get as a replacement from assurion. I've heard people geting the EVO 3d. I have the white version of the EVO now and seems so slipery when I pull it out of my pocket. Also anything special I should do I had it, but i already flash it back to stock non rooted.

You may get an Evo as a replacement; the 3D if they're out of stock.
Evo4g is what you get
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
If it's slippery, get a case.
I would suggest buying an otterbox for your new phone either way. It might be expensive but ive had my evo since release and my brother (ever since I got the case) thought it would be funny to show everyone who saw it and says "look! its indestructable" :\ Ass! You might also find that you can actually salvage it by buying a new lcd screen and digitizer glass for under 70.00 on ebay! just tell your carrier you lost it! you pay the same premium regaurdless if you have insurance! then you can turn it around and sell it as refurbished! Keep in mind some skill and technical knowlege of the EVO might be required along with tools if it is not included!
What's crazy is, my wife's Evo has had two cracked screens and every time we took them to the Sprint stores, they only charged us 25 dollars for a replacement Evo (Just the body, no battery/case/sd card/accessories). Are they not doing this anymore?
I've head my screen replaced countless times by sprint (with root) for free.
Edit: not to mention speakers replaced, bezel, camera lenses. All free. Never unrooted my phone, ever. Same root from day after launch.

How many *is* countless?
I'm not trying to be flip, I think it's an important point (only semi-related to the OP, but definitely something that occurred to me lately) : if you're having to replace that many things on your phone, that doesn't reflect well on the build quality of the phone.
My observation, from this and other remarks on XDA, as well as my own experience (below) is that Evo's tend to break a lot. Probably less than other brands, and possibly less than other HTC phones, but probably more than certain other phones also (dare I mention the iPhone or is that just going to get me banned on XDA?)
On my original Evo, which I had less than a year, I had to replace the camera lens cover, the internal ear piece speaker (not the speakerphone speaker) and the digitizer. The last one I took to a Sprint store - 35 bucks was pretty reasonable, but they don't just replace a digitizer, they also swap out a whole assembly from some other returned phone including someone else's glass, LCD, and bezel. The other two jobs I did myself using parts I got on Ebay. I thought I did a good job too until, a few months after I did the speaker, the screen started acting funny and I realized I had screwed it together oh-so-slightly wrong and torqued the motherboard just a little. The problem got progressively worse and I finally had to buy a replacement Evo on Ebay. So much for saving a buck going the DIY route.
And those are just the problems I was able to solve. I also had to live with the famous crack in the bezel near the volume button, various dings in the relatively soft plastic of the bezel, and a down-volume button that just stopped working (too much use in recovery sessions I guess? )
Evo's *feel* pretty solid, and they're definitely not cheap plastic toys, but I don't remember having these problems with the fruit flavored phone I used to have.

just remeber guys/gals I did say you would have to have the specifications. tourque specs is a large portion of this BEFORE you finish your work. This is a highly complicated peice of technology and any wrong tweeking might cause you to screw up your phone. I suggest addiquate research before you attempt any repairs to your phone Also, there have been some instances where the carrier WILL NOT work on your phone if they deam that you have voided the warrenty. I have had this problem before. Again, it is really up to the shop if they want to fix it. Do this at your own risk.

Well, yes, it is a calculated risk. The old rule applies : don't gamble if you can't afford to lose.
To me, it's just a phone, so I gambled (and lost). I survived just fine, but I agree that not everyone would/should make the same choice.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
OK. So it wasn't countless.
But
3 screen (2 my fault and 1 the tech installed wrong - about to go for a 4th screen cuz I recently dropped and cracked it again, but this time it's not shattered)
2 or 3 external speakers
2 cam lens covers
And 1 badly dinged bezel (that I didn't even ask for, they did it while replacing the screen)
Never had to pay a dime.
I think the build quality is great. Maybe they could use a better speaker, but I think I was using a kernel with audio gains when it blew (i.e. my fault).
Busted screens were obviously my fault.
And HTC has GOT to find a way to protect camera lenses better. I had camera scratches on my HTC diamond, too, but all the Evo and newer HTCs have an even less protected lens.
I never unrooted. I usually try to make it look sorta stock, though. But the last time I brought it in with ICS, and even had ROM toolbox right on my homescreen lol

Goodbye Vibrant board

My vibrant gave up the ghost 2 days ago. Turned itself off and now it won't fully boot without turning itself off unless I leave it undisturbed on a table.
Something on/under the ringer/speaker is loose or corroded, because tapping on that part of the phone makes it cut itself off.
Been using a Galaxy Tab as my phone for the past day and a half. Galaxy Nexus should arrive at home this afternoon.
Goodbye vibrant and Bionix. I would have liked to keep you as a media player, but I guess it is not to ever be. You worked well... except for your wonky GPS and tendency to 'forget' custom ring tones for contacts.... and your shrinking battery life (I have 4 spare batteries).... and taking 2 minutes to read the SD cards during boot up.... but you sure had a nice screen.
You could still use it as a media player. Odin it back to stock then flash a rom. There's one that's design just for that.
You said when you tap it on the side it cuts its self, do you mean it shuts down?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk 2
When I tap it on the back surface of the phone, close to the top (basically where the ringer/speaker-phone is) then it shuts itself off (power goes off)
Other things can cause it to shut off, but that seems to be the problem area.
you may can fix it
well, if you have a soldering iron and a oven proceed, if not but you want to fix it go and buy one.
**Do it only as last resource and if you dont have an soldering station.**
take out the board of you vibrant, solder a small piece of any wire you have on an insignificant par of the board (like the gold border around it) put the board in the oven nearly at 200ÂșC and wait a bit of time till the solder you have done got liquid an the wire goes down.Turn off the oven and let the door open in order to cool ,wait till it got fresh enough to test.
Be happy!
Obs.:the board will get damage if you let it got more hot than necessary.
Good luck!
Are you suggesting that I connect the board to an electrical ground?
Did you have insurance on the phone? If so I'd get it replaced and then sell the new phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
No. Phone insurance is mostly a rip off unless you lose it in the first ~4 months of ownership.
It was worth a shot.
I have it on mine, but I wonder what they would replace it with on a claim if I was to break it since they stopped selling the vibrant quite a while ago.

[Q] Glass back shattered

Having just come off the phone to my Network, I'm worried about my choice of Nexus 4. My first one I have had less than a week and this morning the back glass went ping whilst it was sitting on the sofa doing nothing, the entire back just shattered all on its own.
The Network operator advised there are issues with leaving the phone on charge for long periods and the battery overheating causing the glass to shatter. I was offered an alternate phone, but I actually like the Nexus so am giving it another go. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
I'm used to charging my phone overnight whilst in bed as I don't feel this is excessive over charging????
This.. this is making me concerned for my phone.. I've never left it charging over night intentionally as it wears down battery health but I have forgotten with my other phones..
It's the heat, do you live in a child country, or keep the ac low? Since the glass is thick, the temperature gradient between the two sides causes expansion like in a bi metallic strip, causing it to bend, and eventually crack as strain goes beyond the critical point of elasticity. 11th grade physics

Long story short, don't subject the phone to a temperature gradient of more than 7-10 degrees Celsius, the glass will break, gorilla or no gorilla

No such thing as all modern phones/batteries have circuitry built in to prevent overcharging. The phone will tell the AC adapter to stop supplying power and as such it does. You can keep devices plugged in for days without any current reaching the battery. If your phone is still charging past 100% then that's a faulty AC adapter which should be replaced.
It's -20C outside now while inside being 20C so that's a 40 degree difference and I have no issues with my phone just cracking out of no where. Glass surely will crack under drastic temp changes but definitely not that easy, especially tempered glass on (like such on cars).

I can only go by what my Network told me, I was placed on hold whilst they contacted the Nexus Team whoever they are. When he came back he stated that I had left my phone charging for too long which would have likely caused the glass to fail.
Even I was shocked when I saw the shattered glass and thought they're going to think I dropped it. But then dropping the phone with the special glass shouldn't cause it to shatter, maybe a crack or two, but as per the picture this is an all over shatter.
Maybe I just had a one off duff phone, time will tell as I've ordered a replacement as I actually love the phone itself. Had a HTC for 2 years with not a scratch as I look after my things.

I'm pretty sure if there were no known faults they wouldn't just offer a free exchange or an alternate phone if they thought I'd smashed the thing myself.
Mine broke by being in my pocket just the other day. It's on it's way to LG right now for possible Warranty work.

Its not the glass affected by temperature changes, rather the metal components and frame that are. This "can" cause glass to crack.
Did your phone have any kind of skin or protector on the back?
I have heard stories of cracking from temp changes.
I have a front and back protector and have not had any trouble with mine going from zero degrees outside to 70 inside or vice versa.

Are you making this story up mate? I don`t believe a word of it and it sounds like troll language to me Damage like that seems to be caused by a fall (flat on it`s back) rather than a overheated battery imo. It would take a sudden 40-50 degrees Celsius increase and most probably the glas would melt rather than break. Breakage is caused by temperature differences between the inner and outer side off the glas. And you don`t have it fixed allthough they offered it too you?
Hi
It looks like a typical stress fracture of the glass.
I'm not convinced normal changes in temperature is the cause as otherwise we'd not be using glass for windows!
Charging overnight is perfectly safe and doesn't harm the battery. Lithium batteries explode if constantly charged so the charging circuitry is carefully designed to monitor the charge and stop it when the battery is full. There are also safe guards in place, which likely the red flashing LED issue is an indicator of a fail-safe being triggered.
Sometimes lithium batteries go wrong. The lithium batteries in the Nexus are not in a rigid metal can like most but a different technology that allows them to be in a soft foil packet, much like you might find food in. This means a fault can cause the battery to expand, this would deform the back, stressing the glass and breaking it. Typically with such a fault there will be heat, so 1st line support on hearing of customers finding a hot phone with a smashed back may be coming to the wrong conclusion that heat is the cause.
The only people that know the truth are LG who will find these phones winging their way back to them, and unless this is a huge problem where a recall is required, we will probably never know or be told of a confirmed cause of these "Unexplained Spontaneous Back Shattering" events or USBS, and there probably isn't one single cause anyway.
Regards
Phil

Why would I make it up? I asked the question if anyone else has had similar issues as when my replacement arrives on Tuesday, if it happens again, I would like to know if it is infact a common issue.
Had I have dropped the phone I would be asking if anyone knows how I could get it fixed. Why would anyone waste time posting a load of lies?
As it happens 3 Network have advised they are aware of over charging causing the back glass to break, although I don't see any warnings or advice over how long you should keep a phone on charge.
I fail to see how what I have stated has given you reason to think I am trolling. I am happy with the phone itself and feel it's worth another go as it's fast and to be honest is one of the best handsets I have had.

Sounds like 3's support staff don't know what they are taking about.

Now, this I can agree with. The reason I have given the phone a second chance is that I believe I had a duff phone. I was offered a different phone, but stuck with the Nexus as I actually love it so far.
When I contacted 3, they placed me on hold for a few minutes and came back to advise they had spoken to the Nexus Team, wether that be at 3 or Google, I have no idea. The conversation was almost accusing me of over charging, but being an average phone user I do not know what over charging is. I just plug the phone in and leave it as I always have with previous phones.
The phone itself was not in any pocket, but just sitting on the sofa when it shattered and I too find it hard to believe it just shattered by itself, but in all honesty it did! I have no reason to come on here and say otherwise.
Let's hope the replacement will give me many hours of use, I've ordered a 2 cases to ensure if I do drop it, I get some protection.

I have charged overnight every night since November with no ill effects. I've used various nexus and non-nexus chargers.
I've also never used a screen protector and have had no scratches. I have a 3 quid S tpu for the back and sides.

I've never not charged a phone all night. If I had to wake up at 1 or 2 in the morning to unplug this phone I would sell it today, that is ridiculous. I can't believe that LG or any company would think that this would be acceptable in 2013. Maybe back in the stone age but not today. With that being said, my phone is still in perfect condition with a protector on the front and back. The only thing that drives me crazy is the creakiness of the phone. I hope this crap gets straightened out.

Potential Nexus 7 Touch Screen Fix?

I just wanted to report on a possible fix to touchscreen issues. While this may, or may not, work for you, it is what I did, what I have done on three(3) total devices & it is what has eliminated touch screen issues for myself & two other individuals.
This is a work in progress & I will be adding pictures & more detailed instructions, along with progress updates as I use the device going forward. This modification (though it really isn't a mod) requires no tools & while it does entail some light dis-assembly, it did NOT require breaking any seals that would void the warranty outright. Doing this however, may very well void your warranty, I am not an attorney, I am an engineer & taking things apart is what I have been doing since before I could even crawl nearly forty years ago.
To begin, I will go into my Nexus 7 story, which may allow you to identify similar symptoms.
My Nexus 7 device worked well out of the box, with only occasional multi-touch issues. As time progressed, the issues got worse & at one point a couple of weeks ago, even single touch event started to lag or not register. My Nexus 7 is a batch from July of 2013 & I purchased it in August of 2013, so it was still under warranty. Asus issued me an RMA number, however, I hate broken things, knowing darn well that 99% of the time I can fix them myself far faster than the total time it would take an OEM to get my device back to me. At any rate, after the 4.4 update, my touch issues got even worse. Aside from missing even simple gestures & taps, occasionally the screen would look funny & once it even had a sttatic "snowy" screen that was remedied by a factory reset.
After reading a few complaints from people about screen separation & investigating the device via the ifixit tear down, I decided I would take a look before committing to the RMA process. I gently slid my thumbnail under the bezel & slowly worked it around. Immediately I could feel the clips giving way & I eventually had the back cover off. Once the back cover is off, you will notice that the screen & digitizer ribbon cable runs across the battery, pinned in between the battery tray & the inductive Qi coil on the back cover of the device. I found it is easier to ease all the sides up slightly, then remove the back by gently lifing from the sides & upper portion, with the bottom, where the USB port is, being lifted up last. Once I removed the cover, I disconnected the battery terminal clip. After disconnecting the battery, I then followed the screen ribbon cable to where it is clipped into the screens board contacts with a plastic stay. Immediately upon applying pressure to the cable ribbon stay I felt & heard a faintly audible "click" sound. On closer inspection, I discovered that poor contact was being made by the ribbon cable & furthermore, the flex in the battery tray over time, when coupled with the heat generated at that location (due to the battery & the inductive Qi coil) can slowly loosen the ribbon cable stay & affect the quality of the connection. I used a thin piece of composite material to reinforce the cable ribbon stay & used a piece of vinyl along with a non-conductive adhesive to better secure the cable ribbon & stay. I only used a tiny amount so as not to affect the ability to safely disconnect the ribbon cable without destroying it. I also did not want a bunch of adhesive heating up & spreading to other areas. Before I performed the following step, I decided to test out a few thoughts. What I discovered is detailed in the next paragraph. So, after letting the adhesive dry overnight, I reattached the battery terminal clip & started the device. It has worked flawlessly since, without any touch issues.
While I had the back cover off, I carefully reattached the battery terminal clip & while wearing Nitrile gloves & standing on a wood floor to minimize the risk of static discharge, I would turn the device on with the display ribbon cable in various states of connection. They ranged from being angled so that the far contacts would make little or limited connection, to a full connection with varying degrees of pressure applied, to simulate a good or bad connection. Sometimes the device would not boot. Other times it would boot & have a static or "snowy" screen. Sometimes it affected all touch, from single finger events to multi-touch. It also surprisingly affected the system response. Things would freeze up & apps would FC or ANR. Again, once I improved the connection, everything was back to normal & functioning perfectly. In fact, it is functioning better than it did out of the box.
While I am sure Asus would argue that this voids the warranty, I did not break any seals. No tools were needed, just the materials I chose to use & had lying around. As I also mentioned in the opening, I did this on another household members device, that only had multi-touch issues, not all the issues I had, & their device has now been functioning wonderfully for the last several days. The display ribbon clip in their device was not completely detached on one side like mine, but it was fairly loose all the same. The third device was a friends & it was having mostly single touch issues, though he said multi-touch issues would come & go. We ran through the steps on Hangouts & his ribbon cable was in its place, but as he removed the back, the stay clip fell out. His device is also functioning normally now & he has not reported any further touch screen issues.
Since the problems people are having are oftentimes different & not consistent, it very well could be that this is exactly the issue. I would surmise that it could be the very reason why Google & Asus have been VERY, VERY quiet about the issue, since it would require returning the device for a fix, not simply a software fix.
If you try this, I urge you to be patient & use the utmost care when removing the back. While there are no cable attached to the back, you never want to force things. Be gentle & when you find the right spot for lifting, you will know it. It is not difficult & it is relatively harmless. I would caution you to use gloves & minimize the risk of discharging static electricity. I also recommend using gloves because copper sheeting is used in a couple spots & if you have ever worked with copper sheeting in electronics, you know that stuff grabs oils from your skin like crazy & you will end up leaving evidence in the form of an ultra-clear fingerprint that almost no solvent will remove. (Don't use solvents in your device unless you are a daredevil or know what you are doing).
So, that is my story & what worked for me & my small group. Ultimately, these devices are ours & it is up to each of us individually to pursue the fixes or mods that suit us best. That also means that the responsibility & consequences belong to each of us as individuals. What steps you are willing take to remedy any issues you may have with your device are decisions you need to weigh. This is XDA, where people take risks, assume that the are eventually going to brick their devices & make real modifications to devices (which this really is not). If you break something because you needed every single little detail & step spelled out for you, that's not my problem. Again, this is XDA, not some ragtime blog & anything you do here usually requires you to be able to think for yourself at some point.
Lastly, I will try to get to a step by step with pictures as soon as I can. I am not a developer, I am not a student & I don't have a ton of time to devote to answering questions. I will do what I can, when I can, but between the holidays & my job as a mechanical engineer (two large hospital projects are going on right now that take up 95% of my day), I have very little time right now. This post is the result of a large lunch review meeting, not free time, so it will probably take some time to get everything up. I have to recreate most of it, since I really figured on RMA'ing my device. I never expected this to work as it has for me.
Thanks.
Thanks for the post! If I know the issue I don't mind taking it apart to fix it.
I RMA'd it once as I didn't feel I should have to fix it, but it was such a pain jumping through all the hoops only to get it back with docs stating "OS reset" and finding the problem 30secs after resetting up my account.
I have another RMA but have waited shipping it for an update to KitKat in the hopes that it would help. It hasn't. I'll have to see if I feel up to trying your fix.
Thanks!

No one else tried this?
I barely have screen issues, but I am curious to know if this works, after replacing my N7 2013.
Thanks and regards,
Video tuto
Need a video tutorial. I have both touch and multi reboot issue. sometimes there are 2-4 reboots occur during rebooting of system. problems persist even after kitkat update. I think this is the cause that causing me such multireboot issue.
Hope this will solve my problem. i am out of USA country so i cant give for a RMA. But need a solution look like that.
Thanks gsleon3. It always sounded like a hardware bad connection type of issue so I'm not surprised.
The problem with rma is that I'm not sure their repair techs would really fix anything. The cause may not have been made known even to their own techs because it would leak out and might start a class action law suit. My 2012 nexus 7 never had any of the touch issues my 2013 version is showing. Quality control has slipped with the 2013 version.
Any lawyers here?
Video might be tough, but I'll try to get to it. I will try to dedicate some time this weekend. I was thinking Saturday night, but I just learned that the Day of the Doctor is being simulcast in 3D near my house. So it may have to wait till Sunday so I can let my inner geek out.

nearly an inch long strip at the top of my screen stopped responding to touch i sent it back only had it for 6 days..
Tried this out. My clips were seated properly but I can see the reasons why they pop out.
Took about 5 mins from start to finish to test. Good job.
OP, during your disassembly of the device did you notice any random internal parts that could possibly be applying pressure to the screen from behind it? I ask because my otherwise perfect nexus 7 got a random blue dot in the middle of the screen and I know from past experience that that's typically the result of pressure physically warping the lcd panel.. otherwise the only other thing I can think of is that the lcd is being permanently damaged by the on/off case magnet but that's unlikely. or maybe heat that's causing the battery to flex into the screen. It's extra frustrating because I've had the nexus in a loose fitting hard case and the hard front flap should prevent the kind of pressure damage that would cause those blue marks... sigh.

Well if it is pressure, I've found on past devices, sometimes batteries start expanding over time, like they have a fat belly.
Touchscreen possible fix
Started reading a bit on Google Products Forum and found a guy who said that the touchscreen problem can't be fixed by software.
So he took the back of the tablet off and found that the problem lies on the screen digitizer cable not being clipped to the connection port correctly. He disconnected the cable and connected it back again, and now his touchscreen is working perfectly.
I do not want to try it because I don't want to risk anything, but can anyone brave enough try this?:fingers-crossed:

Ive disassembled the device too and it has nothing specials with exception that few flex cables located right unddr the cover. Not sure if one of them is belongs to touchscreen though
Also i got this blue dot too,and one pink as well. In middle of screen.

I got a blue smear too, but near the edge of the panel but since it's not very visible..I'm just gonna ignore it..

Absolutely no problem, GSLEON3, with profound gratitude I assure you that we really appreciate your engineering work discovering the problem. Take your time and we will patiently wait until you have the time to prepare a more complete review.
Wow! If it is so easy, I don't understand what the Asus support makes everyday.
Thanks for sharing it.
Sound really greate and promising. If you could, a tutorial video would be perfect for us, please

If higher amperage is used there is an increased risk of expansion due to the higher excitation in the Li atoms. You will increase the wear of it too.
So if possible always use lower amperages to charge batteries(preferably around 500mA), you can limit the charging IC using a lower output charger or your computer's USB port.
