[Q] Can an Android ROM be made this way ? - HD2 General

Greetings,
The one thing I have seen a lot of people complain here is about the hard keys on our phone wearing out. This is one of the major issues and i face the same problem. On Windows Mobile I rarely use the Hard Keys but on Android they are really used a lot. So my question to all you talented developers out there is..Cant a ROM be made specially for our HD2 with a soft key panel built into the screen ? which is available all the time !!
I know there are some third party apps like Buttonsavior...etc...but its not something which is as flexible as the soft keys in other phones....I have attached a screenshot to express what I mean.

isn't that what tablet tweaks from cm7 attempts to do? haven't seen if they work, personally.

havent heard of em..please be kind enough to elaborate on that
also i found this...not sure how this works...someone please explainhttp://www.xda-developers.com/android/customize-your-samsung-continuum-with-themed-android-soft-keys/

Try the app zmooth - it is on the Android Market * HERE *. You will never need to use the hardware keys apart form the volume and End/Power key.

thanks

This is something that is a native feature of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So check the ICS ROMs and see if the ROM developer has turned it off or left it as a option for the user to decide. Also I know this ROM has it as a option.

Yea, as stated above softkeys in themselves are/can be present in all the ics as standard as the feature ics nexus itself doesn't have any hardware buttons (that i recall).
When I first read your question I thought you were enquiring about if the soft button panel could be present regardless of the state i.e when screen is off, which isn't done. In terms of being able to totally disregard the hard buttons there are proximity sensor apps (as well as some sound apps) that can be utilised to wake the device from sleep, I've used proximity screen off which works well, although i can't report as to using it affects battery life.

I do not think you can do this with a Gingerbread ROM because the onscreen buttons are not part of Gingerbread. But if you want to you can always try it and see what you can come up with. Also it is several launchers for Gingerbread that will give you the onscreen buttons, but I do not think they work with all apps.

[Request] Camera button

I was wondering if its possible to remap the camera button away from the track ball and to the volume rocker. This will make it easy to take those self portrait pictures with friends than guessing where the shutter button is on the screen.

I believe he means in terms of every single thing working properly, and the speed being up to par with say a stock Nexus One. I thought to myself that I would never switch from HTC Sense.. but the quickness of Cyanogen is just too nice to withdrawal from. Once we literally get the Desire on our phones (you know what I mean), I will go back.
Opening apps just feels so speedy on Cyanogen mod! I really just can't revert... As much as I want to...

As of today is it usable as a main ROM? Also can I install it on top of cm5.0.5.3 or is there some guide that tells us how to go from custom Rom to custom rom?

[APP IDEA] Adjust ring volume based on phone environment (via proximity sensor)

Basically adjust the ring volume depending on what environment the phone is in. I imagine two ring settings, 1 loud for one when it is in a pocket or bag (proximity sensor sensor is triggered) and 1 quieter one for when it is not (like on a table..). The light sensor could also be utilized in conjunction but I'm not sure if that would really add any value...
Doesn't sound too complicated to me..What do you guys think? Does something like this already exist?
EDIT: I think I may have heard HTC sense handsets already have this feature? Does anyone know?
My Desire doesn't have this, or at least not that I've noticed or can find.
I like it as an idea though.

Nope, I think what you mean by the HTC Sense handsets having the the feature of reducing the ringer volume when you pick up the phone. But nevertheless, you've got a great idea, though it'll probably add to the battery drain.

I am still looking for an app that will switch the phone to vibrate based on proximity sensor (i.e. when you put it in the case or pocket) and switch it back when removed. So far no luck (sigh)..
well now that the app inventor has been released (sorta, i havent gotten my invite yet..) this seems like something straightforward enough to give it a shot myself.
There is a app like that, I think its called roxy something, sane guys that did the beautiful widgets ... levelone?
Oh, and AFAIR it used microphone to analyze the ambience (boring ass meeting vs. subway station for example)

Not sure who you are replying to.
I was looking for a VIBRATE based on proximity sensor.
That app does not seem to do that.
Also, on a quick glance I noticed only an Android version.
The HD2 runs WinMo as released.

[Q][REQ]WP7 HD2 Battery Indicator ( percentage etc..)

Any one knows application that shows battery percentage on mainscreen (homescreen), or other battery info.. ? Or this is not developed yet.?
Thanks in advance

That's what i really want it. i little thing but very helpful
I was looking for the same thing but from the reading I've done on it, Microsoft has not included an API for this function yet in wp7, that's why no apps exist to do this just yet.

I did the same went back to a custom rom with android loading from sd card. I've done the CWM and it ran very good but I just prefer the ability to go back to win mob if I ever need to.
for me the guys done a great job on this (beta) build which is awesome but it seems very drab and plain compared to all the other builds that this great phone can have on it.

QFE, we should all go to the Android forum to say how it is bloated (for me at least) and how much WP7 beats it to the ground.
But we won't, will we, we are gentlemen!

i guess its all about personal preference. i have WP7 on my HD2. simply put its clean, fast and amazing. battery consumption seems to be very good. though android is still the best in terms of flexibility/ease of use. i wouldn't sacrifice the OS for a mere battery percentage.
Install HTC Battery Tool and it will tell you the exact remaining battery along with all info you may ever want to know about your battery and much more

[Q] Light on buttons

Is it possbile to do some reg tweaks to get the lights on the buttons working? The lights only come on when I press them...
When else would you want/need them to come on? Surely having them lit all the time would make battery drain even more of an issue than it currently is.

yes but your phone doesnt know when its dark and you want the lighs on and when its in your pocket or draw, battery drain would not be helped obviously but i doubt it would make a huge difference

They should be on whenever the screen is on, surely. Having them only on while you're actually pressing a button is, of course, pretty useless. From what I've read, this is a known issue with the current HD2 WP7 ROM, right?

Yes, people, this is a known issue. On HD7, for exemple, when you press a button, the light remains for 10 seconds. On WinMo 6.5 and Android for HD2 this also happens, but not on WP7... I'm not sure if it will be fixed, as well with the camera, in future releases, just because of the drivers... but we can wait to see it

agreed, personally i doubt very much that any of the hardware "bugs" the HD2 running WP7 has will ever be fixed, but at the very least my HD2 has given me the option to try many different OSs, i now know what i want on a future phone, and since the issues dont really bother me too much ill stick with the HD2 until there is a new "king of phones" available.

[Q] Really good NAND Sense 2.1 Rom?

Hey guys.
After trying dozens of ROMs for a week, I can't find a good sense rom. Nothing fancy. As close as stock 2.1 sense as I can get. I have a 1024 Tmous HD2. Preferably something like the DFT NAND ROM that I'm sure everyone is familiar with, but without any bugs.
Please?
Thankss

I don't think a ROM where you need to use an app to turn off the dang thing is great. As a matter of fact, the only thing I see in NAND development these days are these buggy Sense 3 ROMS, Sense 2.1 ROMs themed to the point of retina destruction and that MIUI crap.
Why has nobody made a stock Desire HD ROM for cLK.
To the OP: If you're a fan of MAGLDR, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915159
Only thing wrong is the camcorder doesn't work with the stock HTCCamera.apk. (and another thing wrong with it is that it's for MAGLDR )
there are stock like hd with sense 2.0 which can be used with clk

I don't need any app to turn off the "dang thing" like you said....
Anyway, the issues i knew after 2 weeks of use:
Camcorder with higher resolutian than 320x240 does not work (i'm not a cameraman so it does not affect me...)
Graphical glitches (much less then in other NAND-roms. Really: not disturbing)
Thats it and all what i've noticed in 2 weeks use. ^^
After testing these two weeks, i only can say that the rom is fast, stable and (that's important i think) suitable for everyday use...

Hi,
I'm not sure why you are laying so much importance on such a minor aspect of a great ROM.
Have you actually tried it?
As it happens my power off (stock) button is still working.
But what's the difference between pressing the power button and pressing an app button.
Same result...
