Hi,
There are are few features that were announced at I/O but I haven't seen so far:
- being able to install apps from the market on your PC.
- being able to buy music on the market.
- being able to stream music from your PC.
Were these features even announced for froyo, or are they scheduled for gingerbread? Do you guys know?
I say give it a week or two. Maybe Google is still working on getting the features out.
They said "these are some of the things they are working on for the next release" so we likely won't see these fully implemented until Gingerbread.

Those aren't features of FroYo only, but of www.android.com as well which is obviously not yet re-launched.
Gingerbread features or a mid update. Not in this release for sure. They said that loud and clear in the keynote.

That's what I meant, they depend on the market webpage but is froyo equipped to take advantage of these possible changes in the market? I mean, if it happened tomorrow; would froyo benefit from it?

Only the first one. The other 2 need an additional software plus an updated music player. I'm sure they wanna get this service up and running as fast as possible and we will probably get an OTA with this in the future. My best guess is that it will happen when the new market web site is released.
Thanks mate, that made it clearer. What about...?
- The application data backup. Is our apps' data being backed up now? Do developers have to change their apps to take advantage of the feature? What if we uninstall an app? Where -and how- does the user notice the feature?
- Searching within the apps' data. Does this mean that the global search will be able to find stuff inside your apps, that is, as if you hit the search button while using an app? Same as you can search something in the music app and the youtube app, even while not using them? If so, again; do developers have to modify their apps to take advantage of this feature? How does the user notice it?
Both of those require developers to use the feature in code
As for the original features, in the keynote they said "something we are working on for beyond Froyo" Which to mean could mean that its for between Froyo and Gingerbread, after all the code needed has all been added in Froyo

So, supposing a developer uses that specific feature in a certain app: would that mean that the app could only be used in 2.2 onwards? Or would older Android versions still be able to run it, albeit not using the feature?
A friend is developing a couple apps and he could use that information

Yep. Before every one of these they clearly mentioned it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm assuming that since it uses new APIs, that it could only be run on 2.2, but the features just seem not important enough to justify losing a ton of potential users.
If you have no solution and going to put me down then go somewhere else.
I dont need no troll comments and negative one too. Just positive comments plz.
I tried using adobe flash player 10.1 beta is installed, but the apps kick me out of the browser.
Did anyone get different and positive results?

flash is not compiled for the g1's processor.
its not like it could not happen, adobe has all the tools necissary, but its doubtful that they'll do it.
as of yet there is no way to get flash working on this chipset.
And its doubtfull that it ever will.
Honestly if someone here could coded it, i bet the adobe flash player would work perfectly good or decent at least. Adobe probably put an requirement on speed in this apk i had. I can send it to you guys if you want.

This is the only apk that will allow you to download it to the g1.

its definitely installable on the g1, but like I said its not coded right for it.
unfortunately, its pretty near imposable to reverse engineer the apk, we need source code for that (which adobe will never release because its not an open source app)
the only chances of getting flash working on the g1 is to ask adobe and hope they listen.
or someone with a crazy amount of time on their hands would have to find some open source equivalent to flash and recode it for our devises, unfortunately these are usually buggy to begin with and I doubt anyone besides adobe has the power to do this.
so in short you'll have to petition adobe, its the only way
who knows maybe they'll listen.
After using VVM built into Sense UI, I notice strange non-encrypted .xml files being created on the root of my sd card. I opened them up with root explorer and what did I see, my voicemail password and phone number is in those files.
So if an app has access to your sd card, your phone number and password could be stolen with ease.
Dont think this problem happens with Verizon's VVM app...just the HTC Sense VVM
Also wanted to mention after deleting the vm's those .xml files are not deleted off your sdcard either.
What's vvm?
EDIT: NVM. visual voicemail. thank god i dont use it
Visual voice mail
Google Voice Voicemail FTW!
Interesting that HTC is passing that information in plain text, after this whole location fiasco between Android and iPhone...you would think they would be a bit more careful about storing any usernames/passwords in plain text.

Well, this on a leaked ROM so it is not like they intended the public to have and be using their vvm on the Inc yet.
anyone know if this could be a proprietary security flag to track people on the leaked rom? I always suspected something like that was embedded in flawed coding of flashed consoles that got banned on xbox live, and with the tether crackdown I have been a little wary.
Why use vvm anyways? Have we gotten that lazy? If its an issue, dont use it!
Sent from my Optimized Inc using XDA App
I am a use voice over vvm myself but if there are other security measures built in that are harder to detect it may be better to steer clear of the leak. as a side note though have been running it for two days. I am a daily UD rom user but wanted a stock. preview sense preview. Never really liked sense, and if ,y D2 wouldn't have took a toilet dive(no insurance) I wouldnt have my phones software hacked to pieces to get a vanilla rom. Oh well. Guess I should have bought a DX as a replacement, but I love everything about the Inc except Sense UI.
Another sidenote, all data speed are faster on the leaked rom including tether and internet but call quality took a dive. Ran all vanilla and some stripped sense roms and this is the most drastic difference between them I have had besides just phone features not working correctly. Going to post this part in the dev leaked thread also. edit osted thread in Q&A
So basically someone could listen to your voicemails? I realize many would have a problem with that, but seems pretty low-key security-wise to me.
depends on the business you do with and what kind of sensitive information that is passed along to you. not everyone will have important voicemails, but at the same time all voicemails should be confidential.
This is a serious issue... hopefully devs figure out how to beef up the security here.

I have no clue what your refering to. I am on the leaked GB rom and use htc vvm all the time. It has never created any files on my sd card or emmc at all, other than saving attachments.

Stock Gingerbread
Hi guys,
So I am currently with stock 2.2.1 and I am thinking of getting the Gingerbread, can anyone tell me what the key benefits are to this update?
Is it a little lighter and may not get bogged down from time to time like my current Froyo?
Anything new or particular exiting to look fwd to?
Thanks,
Jeff

I would suggest you root and install a different firmware if you're up for it. GB is just over all quicker than Froyo.
Thank you very much and sorry but searching somehow never works for me on this forum.

Well I also updated stock froyo to stock gingerbread few weeks ago.Hera are the benefits I'm getting with update
1.Alot of RAM saving/maintaining well.
When on froyo,i had to restart phone whenever im going to download something with Firefox browser. If I didn't make out, I can't get full download speed.I tested this.on gingerbread I don't need to make restarts get full download speed.
Also wherever I gonna play big games like gameloft, I make a restart to play the game without single lag.On gingerbread I never made a restart before I play games.Games works without lag.
After I party some games, phone work little bit slow. But on gingerbread, I never felt felt that.
2.Skype (market version, not modded one) video call with front camera work on gingerbread.
3.Good keyboard with Voice To Text feature.
4.Batty saving than Froyo.
Here is the problem
Camera quality isn't like on Froyo Camera.

Totally out of left field: dell released a new rom for softbank.
The changelog does not seem to state much.
Android 2.2.2
Build date: Jul 10, 2012
Build: 29579
Dell Stage 1.6
The rom is completely identical to 366 except for the following files:
<root>\boot.img
<root>\amss.mbn
<root>\dbl.mbn
<root>\dsp1.mbn
<root>\osbl.mbn
<root>\system\build.prop
<root>\system\app\quickoffice.apk
Out of all those, only boot.img seems to have changed more then just being resigned/trivial changes.
Dell normally holds a rom for 1 month to test before releasing, but the normal release date for a rom built in july would be mid/late august.
So for whatever reasons: they held it back for a month.
It also only includes a trivial amount of changes, so it's not much more then going though the motions of a release
I received the update SMS today and came here to check. Figured you would have some additional info on this.
Still Froyo? I guess I'm never getting a phone from Softbank again.
Blame Dell/Qisda's dell team/Softbank
The SPro's still on GB too.
The Lenovo LePad S2005 (ie the "Opus one") got ICS back in April.
I dont even know why they released 369, I cant tell if it even changed anything as far as softbank's changelog is concerned.

maybe the user or the dev is old school type .. and pretty much on comfort zone...
Official roms arnt custom roms, they cant simply release it and hope there's no serious issues. They have to have staff on hand to test for 3 weeks before releasing.
Even if they only changed like a dozen lines of code at best for it.

I currently sport the Dell official 360 rom and I was wondering if it was worth the bother of udating to this one? has anyone given it a go and does it work?
Any pointers would be appreciated! Also interested in whether it requires a complete reset or if it upgrades leaving data/apps in place? :fingers-crossed:

are we going to get an official ics as we had before from olleh an official gb ??
2.5gb is 500mb nand + 2gb innerSD.
I dont expect them to ever make official ICS.

Well I took the plunge and generally I am pleased with the results. Wifi seems much more stable and most things work, although mms does not seem to be working at the moment. Also softbank does not come with a sms app pre-installed, instead they use their own combined messaging app which I have not tried yet. I installed an sms app from the market and it works ok, apart from mms

The MMS issue I was having was me being an idiot - I had run out of credit I have never used Wifi Hotspot. There is an app that comes rolled into this rom which seems to be for tethering but i have not used it. The WiFi in general is excellent and seem way more stable that any other ROM I've used to date (and I've used quite a few). I think it may be easier to look up a 3rd party (barnacle I think) tool to get the tethering working - but I know very little about this.

I've been using it for a while and generally all is good. It seems better on battery than the 360 rom, the WiFi seems more stable, though I do get the odd issue with it not connecting but far less than any other rom I've used. I do not use tethering and I know that is not present, but there are apps in the market to do this anyway. SuperUser.zip also happily rooted it with no issues. It does seem to be quicker than other Froyo roms too - so overall I'd say it's worth an upgrade. Be aware that the native messaging app will not work on it for some reason, but Handsent or Go SMS are just fine and dandy - unless you run out of credit (see earlier post by me)
If I had to stick to a single rom this would be the one. I am tempted to go for DSC and I've been told by the author that it can be flashed over this rom - so I may report back when 1.6 is rolled out fully and I've installed it to give a comparison.
I hope this helps!
I've looked and haven't found any links for what I'm looking for which is just the amss and dsp1 files to flash in fastboot... anybody got those uploaded anywhere? I hate to flash the entire ROM just to extract those two, but if I have to then I just have to... thanks guys for any help
