[Q] Cotulla's stock build on HD2 PROBLEM ! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Ok so I bought a phone from ebay and it had the NAND Android by Cotulla built. It came with a google account and I was trying to delete it by using this method from another forum:
"Basically this was done on a rooted phone. We used the program called Root Explorer and navigated to /system/framework. Make sure that is mounted r/w and not r/o (read write vs read only). Rename framework-res.apk > framework-res.apk.bak. You might get an error after this (force close). Just go ahead and force close it. Immediately rename it back to framework-res.apk. Reboot and you're done. Enter your new main Google account. "
I rooted this phone with z4root and it worked. And thats how i got access to the files and was able to rename the file. (the reason I rooted the phone because apperantly the catulla build doesnt require root access, so you have to do it on your own)
I got to the part were I got an error and I force closed it and it kicked me out of root explorer. And I couldnt get back in to rename it back to framework-res.apk. So I rebooted my phone and it only gets as far as were the HTC with the white screen is loading but never loads the Android OS.
When I start my phone I hold down the power but and the down volume and takes me to the boot menu, it looks like this:
aMAGLDR V1.11
Build: Dec 31 2010 05:30:51
by Cotulla 2010
------------------------------
boot menu:
1. Boot AD SD
2. Boot AD NAND
3.USB MassStg
4. USB Flasher
5. USB TTY
6. AD Hardreset
7. Tetris
8. Services
9. Reset
10. PowerDown
So Im guessing I still have hope and it is not a brick (i dont know what exactly it means but it doesnt sound good.)
Like we say in the Marines, Im a boot to this. I serious am new to the flashing roms to the phone and messing with the framework or anything.
What do I need to do to get my phone working on NAND Android? Do I need any software installed on my computer? I hope someone can explain it to me barny style so I can fix my phone. Thanks !!
I saw on another thread on this site that the catulla built is not the most popular. So is there a way to go from where im at (point stuck in my phone to flashing thru MGLDR/CWM or CLK/CWM ?) which I have no idea how to do that either.... and what do I need to do?
Thanks to anyone that wants to spent the time to help me.
-Josue

That was the first NAND rom released when cotulla released magldr.(the black screen with menu, , you get there by holding power down when you start the phone)
Thing is, it hasnt been updated or anything, it was just a proof release, and teh method it is flashed doesnt create the racovery partition needed by the CWM(clockworkmod, clockwork recovery, clockwork) method that most current roms use.
So, firstly, go get the NAND tootlkit , phone into bootloader, connect usb, (the word serial on phone screen changes to USB) in NAND toolkit click ;install magldr, since yours is out of date,, (wont need to do this again)
Then, pick a rom you want to flash, (many roms have two versions, magldr and cLK, get the magldr version for now, you can change if you like once you know what you're doing), somewhere in the first few posts of that roms thread will be instructions as to what system partition size you need.
When you know, put the phone into magldr menu, choose USB flashing, and then in the NAND tool click the size you want in the left, then click 'repartition'.
When its done, start the phone and hold power as the screen goes black, till you get the magldr menu, choose 8.AD recovery, this will start CWM which you can then use to 'install zip from sd card - choose zip' to flash the rom. (Assuming your rom was already on your sd card)
SD cards - most roms extend the internal storage memory by using an EXT partition on the sd card, so its worth setting one up before you start. In CWM - advanced - repartition you can have it create an ext partition for you. This WILL format the whole card, so back up first. (Choose 0 for swap, you can always change it later)
Read everything HERE and HERE and take your time.

Ok I had Dowloaded the NAND toolkit like 2 hrs ago but I kinda have the idea how to use it b/c I had read the entire write up. I think for some reason my computer is not picking up my phone, even though it was befor I messed it up. So I cannot get pass the first step of insatlling the updated magldr. I do the step you told me to but nothing happenes to the phone. I dont see were the word serial on phone screen changes to USB....?
OK so I have my phone in the Bootmenu (Im guessing thats what everyone calls the bootloader?). I plug it in, and open the toolkit. I click install MAGLDR, I go all the way to the step were it says verifying the information on you PDA phone...please wait...
-ERROR[260]: CONNNECTION
And it tells me make sure your phone is connected to computer. And it is. I have used 3 different cables to connect the phone to the computer. Do I have to select something from the bootmenu, or something Im missing?
One of the step is to "hold volum down buttom and power button till you see screen with three colors." But I never get to the point, im just at the boot menu.
I know my phone is connecting because it does the buzzing noice like when you plug/unplug any usb. And in the bootmenu I choose USB Mass Storage mode and it brings up my sd card on my computer. Where can the connection problem be?
Thanks for helping me with my problem.

no, bootmenu is the black screen, magldr, , you want the phones actual bootloader, , , power off, press, hold, and keep holding voldown, tap and release power, keep holding voldown till coloured screen appears. thats bootloader.

amazingly I got to that part (bootlaoder). Little by little...
Next problem: Im at the bootlaoder and have "SERIAL" but it never changes to USB even though the computer is pick up the connection. And I get the same error message. Is there a reason why "Serial" dont change to "USB" eventhough it is pluged in correctly to the computer and it sounds like the computer picks it up?
Thanks for being patient with me and walking mw through the steps..
Update: I restarted my computer and it changed from "Serial" to "USB" Which is great BUT I do the steps and cant get pass the first one (STILL). The program is not picking up the phone for some reason...

Are you sure your USB cable is a power/data and not just a power cable? Not all USB cables do both.

also if u have active sync or the vista/win7 version turn off USB connections in that.
try a different USB port preferably on the back of the PC.

I have 3 usb cable, one of those is the one for my external hard drive. So I know that one should because data passes through it. I know its not the cable, and its not like I can go out and buy another one because Im in Afghanistan.
I dont not have Active Sync on my computer. I have windows 7 on my computer but I have no ports because it a laptop. I just took out another laptop out of the box, hoping I was just my computer. When I tried it and installed HD2 toolkit it also didnt work. The only way I can get the theword Serial to change is when Im in bootloader and nothing happend, I leave it pluged in, then I restart the computer. As soon as the computer start to reboot, the word changes to USB. So I figured it was going to work. So I go back to tool kit and it says the same problem: ERROR[260]: CONNECTION.
Both laptops are windows 7 running on 64bit. I dont know if it would make a difference running on a 32bit. In the bootloader this is what comes up:
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL G8 XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
When I did plug it inthe first time to the new laptop, something popped up, saying something about not being able to install driver, driver not installed.

Hi,
If you are running Windows 7, you need to have WMDC (Google it) for the computer to recognise the phone. It contains the drivers required.
Then you should be able to install everything.

WOW that worked. Thats exactly what I needed (WMDC). Thanks alot. I was able to go from MAGLDR V1.11 to V1.3, using the HD2 Toolkit and installed 150mb b/c I plan to flash the Pongster's CM7 rom. Someone is helping in PM. I still have no idea how to flash that rom. But could not have gotten this far with out yalls help. Thanks, yall are some really smart people. Im still learning how to do this flashing and stuff.
UPDATE: I just installed Pongster's CM7 rom. It seems amazing!! Thanks for everyone help.
Question: My phone was unlocked prior to this happening. But no i inserted my sim card and it has no signal. Does the phone lock up again after doing this process? I would much of a problem if I was state side b/c I use T-Mobile but Im in Afghanistan and use a local sim and can make calls. Is there a way to unlock it, I paid someone last time to unlock my last HD2 but I dont want to do it again.
Thanks
-Josue

no, once unlocked they stay unlocked, so must be a different issue.

I feel stupid but ill just say it. I put in the similar card in wrong that's why it wasn't. Reading it. I have signal now. Everything seems to work now. But I'm going to update the radio. But I have no idea what's radio is or what its used for...can anyone answer the question for me?

Hi,
Generally the best radio for Android is:
Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.
HERE
You can check which radio version you have in:
Settings>About Phone>Software Information>Baseband Version.

[Q] Help!

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a burden but I'm having a few issues with my hd2, and being a noob I didn't really know where to turn except this forum.
Basically my dad bought the hd2 from the UAE early this year and it all worked fine on stock settings for about 6 months. In the last few months, however, the phone started to lock up, and it got to the point where it wouldn't even boot properly.
In an effort to fix the problem I went with a hard factory restore, however, this seems to have caused more problems as now the phone is stuck in the bootloader.
I've been searching for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I need to update the flash? and then possibly install a new rom on the phone?
My major issue in doing this though, is that I can't seem to connect to activesync while the phone is in the bootloader.
Please help me sort this out.
First of all lets make sure that your trying perform the hard reset correctly.......
You need to hold down both volume buttons whilst the phone is turned off..... Then tap the power button and keep the buttons held down.......
Release them when you see the confirmation screen.........
Powering on while holding only the vol down button will take you to bootloader....
If you need to reflash the device then have a read of this thread here....
If its a "Tmous" HD2 (green and red call/hangup buttons) then you need to read this one
When connecting to the pc in bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen change to "USB".......
Might be worth checking the text on you bootloader screen for any irregular looking characters, there have a few cases of people with corrupt bootloaders, usually these will display odd looking characters at the top. This is quite rare though.
If you want to flash another stock rom then you wont need to worry about HSPL just download the appropriate ROM and follow the instructions on screen.
Start off at the HTC site and input your serial number to see which ROM is suitable for your device.....
If none of that helps then hold out for some advice here from someone with better knowledge of these things.....
Ok well I've just tried to do the hard reset in the way you've described and had no response from the phone. I had to remove the battery from the back to actually power down the thing as nothing else seemed to work. I can't actually seem to start it up again now =S
Thanks for all the info, I'll keep trying to get it started. I'm downloading the stock rom from the htc site. Hopefully I will find a way to install that.
Also, when the bootloader was up, there weren't any odd characters that I could see. It all seemed pretty standard. It had the current rom driver which was 1.42 or something and a few other lines of info.
Thanks for the post.
edit: perhaps the battery is dead?
No problem.
Is it charging when plugged in and turned off?
If so let it charge while turned off for a while and then try to boot........
If you cant get to bootloader and establish a USB connection then you could try flashing the ROM from the SD card.
rename the rom to "LEOIMG.nbh" place it on the root of a freshly formatted (fat32) sd card and turn on the phone holding vol down..

To be honest I have no idea if it is charging whilst turned off =S All I get is the bootloader when it decided to turn on and that gives no indication of power level so I really have no idea. It makes updating a rom pretty scary haha.
So I just attempted to install the default rom from teh htc site, but failed due to the lack of activesync. It was strange though because the updater managed to change the screen on the phone and get to 1%. It then crashed and I had to go through this recovery process.
I will have to try this SD card process I guess. Could you perhaps link me to a more in depth guide to how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
you should get a red light up near the earpiece to indicate that its charging........
try this video for flashing from sd card......
I am not getting a red light flashing? But it doesn't seem to be running out of charge. I'm still having lots of trouble
It would seem that I need to install this hspl before I do anything, however, I can't install that if I can only access the bootloader screen. Does this mean my phone is bricked?
I want to be able to set up a rom straight from SD, however, I have no idea where to start. That video just seems to send me in a big loop.
Perhaps you could link me to a simple rom that I can attempt to load via sd card?
edit:
I seem to have somehow fluked an install of HSPL 8G XE.
I have no idea how this happened or whether it is good or bad.. but at least something has happened.
Hmmm
installing hspl is covered here
as long as the word "serial" is changing to "USB" on the bootloader screen when you connect to the computer you should be ok.......
You dont need HSPL to flash via sd card but I think that video was directed more towards people installing cooked ROMS from XDA.
Installing a stock rom will automatically overwrite HSPL so unless your planning to flash a custom ROM then installing HSPL is pointless........
You might be better off installing a cooked rom. (Artemis, Dutty's)
They tend to run better than stock, if you get one running then it will be easier to get back to a stock rom (if you want to) than the situation your in now.....
This is from the flashing guide;
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Reckon you could link me to one of those roms? I think we're getting pretty close now.
Your help has been great I can't thank you enough.
Your welcome
You can find Dutty's ROM here
or the Artemis ROM here
Have a quick read and see which one you think you'll prefer, to be honest I think they're both pretty similar to stock but with a lot of the crap taken out....
Just follow the steps in the first link I posted and you should be good to go.
Ok new problems.. Can you believe it.
I seem to have tried everything.
Basically I can install of a sd card, but when it gets to the end of the install and I restart instead of booting into a OS it boots to the tri colour screen, and starts the install process again.
Also, I have attempted to install via usb and have had varying success.
As I have already said, I am able to install hspl, however, when I try to flash I get to varying percentages below 30% before the whole thing freezes.
I now have an error that says Upgrade Rom code error Please Try Again.
Sorry i dont mean to hijack ! but will any of you be kind enough to help me here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879980
thanks !
Ok so I followed the steps and still to no avail.
I am able to boot using the sd card method, however, the same problem occurs with each rom version. Basically as soon as I reset the device it pretty much switches itself off, then I can't turn it back on, once I finally do turn it on, it restarts the process like it never happened.
The other issue is again the active sync problem.
With most of the the usb connections I am able to connect and get a little way through the install (most I've got is 15%) then it just freezes up and I get the 262 error
Your best bet is to try flashing with a freshly formatted (FAT32) 4gb, class 2 card.
I know, sounds pretty specific right?
You wouldn't think it would matter?
I have tried flashing with 16 gb class 2, failed at the radio step
Tried with a 8 gb class 6, failed at the radio
4 gb, class 2, flashed successfully.
Seems our HD2's are picky about what cards they'll take a ROM from for some reason.
Alright I'll try that, my next issue is which is the stock rom for the phone =S
It was bought in the UAE and I'm currently in Australia.
edit: Also I read somewhere that the constant bootloader screen can be caused by a bent battery pin?
Edit2: I have attempted to do that, however, now the bootloader will accept the card, then just sit on loading...
I'm pretty sure this thing is bricked.

I've heard of bent battery pins being a pretty common problem, causing usually just the phone not to charge properly. I've personally never heard of it causing constant bootloader, but it's definitely worth checking.
It's weird that it's such a common problem, my usb/charging port is broken, so I have to use an external charger. I change my battery on average twice every 24 hrs, and I've never bent a pin
Ok, new info, apparently because the device is for the middle east it does not support stock 3.14 roms. What does this mean for me? Am I bricked.

That's the post I found the info in. All of that info matches up to mine except my original image was 3.142 I think =S
Firstly, your phone is not bricked - a bricked phone is responsive as a brick.
Can we start from the begining?
What does the Bootloader Moder screen say (with and without the USB cable connected)?
What ROM (and if custom ROM, what RADIO) have you flashed and are trying to flash?

Alright from the beginning.
Basically about a month into using the phone in Australia it became very unresponsive to the point where it would not boot at all. We left the phone for a couple of months, however, after seeing a friend rom android I decided maybe it was time to attempt to fix this phone.
Some more info:
When I attempt to do any sort of ROM update there is nothing in the 'current image' part so for example it will say update to Dutty 3.6 but it's updating from nothing, does this mean there's no firmware there?
In the bootloader I have:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MICROP(LED) 0X05
MICROP(TOUCH) 0X40
Without USB cable in I get Serial in the white part down the bottom, with the USB cable in + plugged into computer I get USB.
Just to further clarify. In regards to the ROM I have installed. I simply don't have anything installed. There is a bootloader, no image, no bootup. It boots up to the tri colour, that's it.
For a moment we will forget about going to 3.14 ROM: I don't know if that phone is entitled to an official upgrade to 3.14, if it is locked to a particular network, if it is branded, etc. If it is not entitled to a 3.14 ROM upgrade then you will have to go through GoldCarding, so we will leave it for now.
Make sure that the battery has had a good couple of hours charge in the charger or double that if connected to the computer.
Remove SIM Card and SD Card.
Switch on to Bootloader Mode, then connect to USB.
Download and run HSPL2 - ignore the instruction about connecting to ActiveSync etc, just proceed.
Download and install the HTC 1.66 WWE ROM - again, ignore the instructions, just proceed.
The reason for HSPL is because your phone may be operator locked (not SIM locked) and you aren't entitled to run the 1.66 WWE ROM.

You aren't trying to flash it while you're in wp7, are you? I don't see why else it would label it as a leo70. You flash while in magldr... go to the flash option in magldr, then flash the android rom. If you're doing it that way, then please state exactly what you're doing so we can figure out if you're doing anything wrong.
zarathustrax I think i know all the steps..I know I should have it in magldr.12 but when i put it in magldr.12 i keep getting a error that it wont connect even though it says usb under usb flasher. try to flash DFT nanadroid 2.2 rom then and it gives me a wrong device ID error. now after several atempts my computer and phone will not read each other and usb under usb flasher is just waiting for a connection....The phone has correct radio on it. also i can get it do the screen to say HSP 2.8 everything there is a go its just getting this darn thing to read it i guess..

Sounds like there's a problem with the driver. Reinstall windows media center and see if your phone is properly recognized by your pc.
Otherwise, you could try restoring winmo 6.5 directly via sd card. Google how to do this, as I'm replying using my phone and it's a tad difficult to search the guide for you.

Like person above said, make sure all drivers have successfully installed... also make sure you're giving it administative rights when running flasher. I know sometimes when I flash, the administrative permission window doesn't pop up the first time and then it gives similar errors like you're stating. If it still doesn't work, then try reflashing magldr by holding vol down when you turn on to go to bootloader, and flashing magldr installer. Might be a good idea to task 29 it, too.

[Q] HD2 not detected at all

Hello,
here is the situation.
i have a hd2 with magldr 1.13
android in nand
android in sd
both are working fine.
im trying to flash wp7 but my pc wont even pick up the connection (device not listed in devmgmt) however the phone is charging no problem.
i have installed, uninstalled and re-installed:
android sdk tools
windows mobile device center
windows phone sdk
i have manually removed each drivers after uninstalling all these through devmgmt.msc
i have also tried all this on 2 other PCs, with the same results so far.
i will try on a 4th PC later tonight.
i havent had the opportunity to try another cable yet.
what is causing this?
Thanks,
In wmdc did you untick "allow USB connections"?
That doesn't make any sense. If you flashed Android to NAND it should Flash WP7 to NAND with the same ease.
Make sure you hate .net 4.0 installed too, I know that helped me.
on the phone do you have it set to charge only from USB?
menu button - settings - Connect to pc - Default connection type
yep "allow USB" is unticked
i have .NET 4.0 installed...

I don't understand what the problem is exactly:
You connect your HD2 to your PC, load up MAGLDR and select usb flash mode.
then you're running the DAF WP7 flasher and then it fails to connect or what?

on the phone, nothing happens.
on pc flasher fails after a while.
also on the tri-colour HSLP boot, i can see "serial"
but i cant seem to put in "USB" mode.
i tried booting into HSPL with the USB connected but then it wont display "serial" or "USB"... it stays blank

oh well if bootloader stays on serial its almost certainly hardware, cos it should switch to USB regardless of whether flashing works and drivers and what not. You say you can charge so I would suspect a broken data pin inthe socket, perhaps dirty, perhaps bad solder, perhaps faulty cable.

He's saying it doesn't say serial or USB, so it might be some software issue, "it stays blank"
I would flash stock via SD, then flash HSPL, task29, then flash magldr, then try again.
yea, but since it does say serial when usb isn't connected, means it is detecting something, because it can tell the difference. You may be right in a corrupted bootloader, but id bet its more likely hardware, shorted data pins, or a break on either the phone or the cable. (all just guesswork, of course, , , hurry up and find out, OP! minds with nothing better to do need to know! hehe)

@OP
+1 on that, but of course it will all stop at "stock via SD" if that doesnt fix it,because hspl gone, no usb to reapply it, no radio flashing, so no more android, just stock winmo roms,, so think carefully what you want, if you can live with what you have, id be tempted to leave it alone until you need to.

That's true, if you flash stock via sd then you're back to SPL 3.03, but reflashing HSPL might be what you need to do, so it's hit or miss.
If it's hardware then you will find out this way and since you'll hopefully be back to stock SPL you could do warranty on it.
I hate to say it but that's most likely a dead physical USB port. I work on the HD2's daily and have seen this problem several times and it was 100% not software related which I have verified after a fully memory sweep and write of a JTAG dump from a working phone to the defective one. In these case the phone would also charge but had no PC connectivity either. You can however flash all the WinMO ROM's you would like over the SD-Card and definitely still benefit from the SD-Card style of booting Android ROM's so the phone is not a total wash. You can also still hope that Cotulla or some DEV will come up with a way to flash CWM Recovery from the SD-Card to the NAND. Then you could even still have NAND based Android ROM's as the CWM step is the only part of MAGLDR to Android that involves PC > Phone flashing.
The port is cheap at about $6.00 USD but the skill required to put one on is high. I don't offer it as a service yet but I'm planning on it soon as I solder frequently on JTAG ports smaller than the usb ports themselves and have the skill to do this.
EDIT: I'm also not 100% sure it's the port to blame but most likely it is. However, it could still be something inline with the USB data bus on the phone to blame.

If this is the case I wouldn't flash stock via SD since you have no way to flash HSPL after that.

[Q] White Screen of Death - Is there a solution?

Evening all, I was hoping you might be able to assist me with a problem I'm having.
I've owned my HD2 for a good 18 months or so and on the whole it has been fault-free, apart from the fact that it seems to randomly turn off in my pocket!
Anyway, I'm now getting the so-called 'white screen of death' when I turn the phone on. There is no text or information on the screen - it's just completely white. At this point I can't press anything and I can't do anything.
I'm on the Virgin Mobile network and the history of my phone is very simple (which may even be part of the problem!): I've not changed a single thing on it since I bought it.
The only action I've tried is performing a soft reset, as it's the only thing I know how to do. Needless to say it didn't solve the problem.
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated. Many Thanks.

put it in a bag, stick it in the freezer for 5 mins and try again. If it boots it's a hardware failure and you need it sent for repairs.
Thanks for your reply orangekid.
I tried what you suggested but the phone still won't boot. Looking at what you said before, does this mean it isn't a hardware failure?
Can you get the phone into Bootloader Mode (with phone off, press and hold the Volume Down button and then tap the Power button)?
Hi fred_up.
Just tried the volume down button and tapping the power button and the screen is now divided up into 4 colours, ascending from the top: red, green, blue and white.
The text in the red section reads:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
The text in the white section reads:
Serial
I take it this is Bootloader Mode?
Thanks again for your responses.

if your there connect a usb....if it reads usb on the buttom of the screen flash a wm6.5 rom just to get it back on to working mode...there is hope my friend
I´d still try a hard reset.
If you´re still running the original ROM, maybe it will help. After that much time, maybe some system files got corrupt. The factory ROMs don´t leave much space on the internal memory - a major reason why a lot of users go for leaner custom ROMs.
"Flashaholics" like myself probably don´t make such an experience since we re-install everything on a regular basis.
Yes that is Bootloader Mode. Your phone has a very old ROM on it.
If you just want to run the Vodafone WinMo6.5, then go to HTC's website and download the ROM. You need to use your phone's serial number to get the ROM - this guarantees that you have the correct ROM.
You should have the choice of the 1.72 and 3.14 version of the ROM. The 3.14 is obviously the newer version.
Have your phone fully charged. Remove the SD Card and the SIM - personally I have never needed to do this, but I suppose it doesn't do any harm to be extra cautious.
Put your phone into Bootloader Mode, then attach it to your computer (the 'Serial' will change to 'SUB').
When you download the ROM, then run the .exec file (if you are running Vista or Windows then you must do this as an Administrator). Tick the boxes and the Next. Don't worry about the ActiveSync message, as being in Bootloader Mode bypasses this requirement. The procedure takes about 20 minutes, so don't worry if it takes a few minutes to do anything.
Thanks for your responses.
fred_up, I've gone on to the HTC website (I would post a link but I'm not allowed yet) but can't seem to see what I'm looking for. I'm with Virgin Mobile - does this make a difference to the ROM I need to download? (I see you mentioned a specific ROM for Vodafone)
All the ROMs on the HTC site seem to be 'updates'...
Sorry about the Virgin / Vodafone mix up.
I take it that you are from the UK.
I would then and try and download the HTC stock version 1.66 (Release Date: 2010-01-25) or 3.14 (Release Date: 2010-10-11). The site also has the 1.48, but I wouldn't bother using that. Don't wory that it says upgrades as a ROM from HTC contains everything (main and RADIO ROMs and SPL).
The reason that I show the option for the 1.66 ROM is that when you went to the 3.14 ROM it could only run via the 3.03 SPL, which meant that you could not flash WP7 or Android (Nand) or run the dual boot of WM6.5 ROM and Android on SD.
Thanks fred, I'll give that a go and let you know how I get on.
yes the 1.66 rom is the latest 'sic' that Virgin support
Hi johnerz. Apologies for my ignorance, but what do you mean by 'sic'?
fred, I've attempted to connect the phone to the computer via USB, but the 'Serial' doesn't seem to change to 'SUB' - is this an issue?
Also, the ROM Upgrage ReadMe says to 'Back up your personal data from the Mobile Device to your computer using ActiveSync if you want to ensure you don’t lose any of your data.' Is this possible to do, so that I'd be able to put the data back on the device once it's fixed?
Many thanks.
'SUB' should have typed 'USB' - I really must learn to read.
If the 'Serial' doesn't change to 'USB' then it can be one of three things:
A problem with the computer's USB - try a rear USB connection.
A non-Data or faulty USB cable - try and use another cable.
A faulty USB port on the phone - you have to use the SD Card method.
As for backing up your data, if you've not done it prior, then anything that is stored on the phone (not stored on the SD Card) is lost.
A golden rule is that if you cannot afford to loose data, then you should have at least one copy of it.

To be honest, I did fear the worst about my data. It's not a major issue though - at the moment I'd just love to have the phone up and running again.
I'll bring a different cable in to work in the morning and try the USB method again.
Thanks
I think the easier method is just to do a hard reset. I think I've seen the WSOD once, and hard reset resolved it. Then you need to restore your data and program from backups. Still it is less work than flashing via USB.

'sic' or more commonly [sic] means that it is a exact quotation which includes any errors. Thus it is not an error that the reproducer has made. Normally it is used to show grammatical or spelling errors of the original quotation.
In Johnerz quote from Virgin, they state that the 1.66 is the latest ROM, but we all know that the 3.14 ROM is the latest.
Evening fred, I think I may have to try a different approach.
I can't seem to get the 'serial' at the bottom of the screen to change to 'USB'. I've tried starting Bootloader mode then connecting the cable, with no luck. I've also tried connecting the cable first, but then it doesn't even let me enter Bootloader mode. I've tried all the USB ports on the computer (front and back) with no joy, but the strange thing is that the cable must be working as the computer detects that I've got a device connected and starts the Hardware Wizard. Strange.
Another strange thing is that when I connect the phone to the computer, the orange 'charge' light comes on, but no matter how long I leave it, it won't go green (fully charged). Perhaps it's a faulty battery or something... I don't know.
I may have to try the SD card method you mentioned earlier. Or perhaps a hard reset as recommended by alex? Which option would you suggest?
Many thanks to all once again.
Evening all,
I've just read up and tried the hard reset via the external buttons - unfortunately without success. The phone is still playing up as before: when I try to boot up I'm greeted with a blank white screen.
As a last resort, is there anything else that anyone can suggest? I'm willing to have a go at anything, such as the SD card method suggested by fred in an earlier post, if I can just be pointed in the right general direction.
Many thanks.
As a quick check, as you say you have done Soft Resets, is the battery connection pins on the phone okay.
Sometimes doing a Soft Reset the easiest option is to pop out the battery rather than pressing the Reset Button. This can occasionally can bend one of the pins and has been known to cause booting up problems.

mobile device center

I have CMYLXGO's Topia HD-NAND Edition on my hd2.
The problem that I am having is that Mobile device Center does not show my phone when I connected to the usb.
can anyone help me?
Thanking you in advance,
Henry
Isn't mobile device center for windows mobile only?
You're on Android, why do you want to connect ti WMDC anyway?
Yeah, you don't have a WMo phone anymore, so to say.
If you want to connect to the PC, try USB mass storage.
If you need any help, just let me know.
Ok, so how can I change differents roms if my phone does not sync. with my pc, I used to able to do it, now for some reason I can't.
thank you for yor reply,

It depends on what room are you using?
If you are using magldr, clk or you are just flashing through clockworkmod.
For every type of bootloader there is a way to enter the flashing menu.
Just tell me what rom (and what type of bootloader) are you using and I'll tell you what to do.
-----------------------------------
HTC HD2
ACA GB 237 CM7
kernel 2.6.32.15
NAND Android ROCKS!
As a relative noob myself I recommend either HD2 tools or easyandroid, the latter being easy to use and explains every step of the process as you go and confirms you have correct radio, magldr HPSL ect already installed.
If you are looking for a good ROM, Team Blue Droid have produced an excellent sense 3.5 Rom which looks the business and works far better than many others I have flashed recently on mh EU HD2. I am not that technically minded regarding SD card partition types, but I run mine via SD card after flasing a 1024 partition using CMR and the accompanying DAF.exe.
From reading many threads I understand camcorder is less than perfect on most roms at highest res.

Try it with "HTC Sync" (download 4free) instead of mobile device center.

if yo uare flashing DAF roms the nyou go intothe bootloader and flash
most roms these days are CWM based and you install themn via zip file from the sd card no need for the computer
Ok, let me try to explain myself better so you can try to help me, thanks.
I did install the magldr 1.13 on my phone, when I plugged the phone to my pc for the first time it showed that it was intalling the driver and that went ok, my problem is that I don't see my phone on the screen so if I want to flash another rom how do I know that my phone is comunicating with my pc, my friend tells me that the minute he plugged he's phone to his pc, he sees his phone on the screen.
Can you help me?
Thanking everyone in advance,
Henry
have you tried removing and reinstalling wmdc? once just because of that i had to format my pc
1. You need to enter magldr bootloader, just reboot the phone and hold the on/ off key until you get on the magldr options screen. With your usb plugged in, scroll to usb flasher and confirm the option by pressing the call button.
Then open the rom you want to install in your PC and go for the flash. If the phone is not connected, then it shouldn't do anything. If it is, it will install.
2. Other option, from what I'm reading, I think your driver might not have been installed properly.
Try connecting the phone to other PCs. And do the usb flasher thing.
Let me know if this helped.
Sent from my HD2 using my fingers.
