3G watchdog not showing usage by app - Streak 5 General

Although everyone raves about 3g Watchdog it seems to have a problem in that it doesnt show data usage by app. This I understand is either a Dell or DJ Steve Rom thing with Froyo.
With so many things working in the background it really would be usefull to see which apps are data hungry so that settings can be changed.
If there is no hope for 3G Watchdog and the Streak, does anyone know a work around?

Did u try clicking the cpu tab in 3g watchdog? It shows each app and what percentage of cpu its using on my streak...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

Really? What is your rom? Because they even have it in info that it is not working for Dell Streak and I really wish there will be some way to fix it. You can check it on the Market.

Im on streakdroid 1.9 and yes it shows my cpu usage % of each app and even gives notifications when anything uses above the threshold I have set so it appears to be working properly

I am using 1.9.
Where is this Cpu tab in 3g watchdog pro. I have ' usage ny application' which shows everything at 0 B

when i go into watchdog i have 3 tabs i can switch between. they are Stats, Alerts and CPU. when i click on CPU it shows every running program as well as it memory usage and cpu % usage. We are talking about Watchdog pro free from Amazon app store correct?

You mean Watchdog task manager, right? Because he was talking about 3G Watchdog - It is not the same. The 3G Watchdog is monitoring your 3G usage and Watchdog task manager your cpu usage
The problem is, that the 'usage by application' in 3G watchdog is not working on the Streak...

From the FAQ on the developer's web site:
What phones are supported?
Posted in // FAQs
Most phones running Android 1.5+ are likely to be supported "out of the box" - if not, drop us an email at [email protected].
However, phones with QVGA (low resolution) displays, such as the HTC Tattoo are only supported in the free version of 3G Watchdog.
Extra large screens (such as the Xoom) are still experimental as of March 2011.
[PRO] Known problems
The ZTE Blade (aka Orange San Francisco) is not supported.
Dell Streak: Usage by App doesn't work (Dell's implementation fault)
On the HTC Hero the labels on the tabs are not readable within the app (should be fixed from version 1.3.0).

You probably have a misbehaving app, have you installed our changed anything recently?
Try a task manager or similar to see what is running etc and to kill and eliminate apps.

+1 on the whole typing using complete words point.. spectacularly lazy. and Laziness doesn't inspire help..
But yes - probably a dodgy app.. or a weak signal (local transmitter problem).. can kill your phone as quick as anything else!
I use a combination of Autokiller (never kill tasks yourself), SetCPU and Watchdog lite (Email app on X10's is a major culprit and goes over 80% CPU usage occasionally) to manage battery life. I easily get 2 days with decent amount of surfing and calling. Although if I used Juicedefender I'd get even better battery life but I like to keep 3G on since I get quite a bit of MMS.
I had a simar problem today. My battery was on 74%, the fone randomly froze. I turned off the fone from the power button turned it back on and i was down to something like 56% weird

You can use juicedefender to regulate when to turn on/off 3G/Wifi. For example when screen shuts off or when you turn on the screen, maybe keep it turned off below a certain percentage of battery, etc.
As for SetCPU, I use fairly liberal settings:
Scaling is always on demand and priority is always 50.
Charge AC/Full --> 998 / 245
Charge USB/Full --> 998 / 245
Screen OFf --> 384 / 245
Battery < 10% --> 245 / 245
To save even more battery you can set your profiles to conservative, etc.
I had the same issue when I started using desktop visualizer. Battery went from 3 days to one.

hello everyone
first of all i would like to apologize from all of you for typing that way. the reason for typing like that is my x10 is lagging a lot so i have to type like that so i could type a bit fast. :/
anyways... other problem im having is my x10 isnt charging properly. i plugged my x10 for charging at like 2 am.. and took off at 2 pm after i cam back from school! :s
and the battery was still at 75%
and it was warm (the phone)
i knw i shldnt hav over charged but still...
and all the battery was drained by 8 pm.
i really need your help people..
im worried.. why is this happening?
try deleting all applications and test your phone without using any 3g and wifi to chk if its a manufacturing fault. if it runs around two days without any 3g and wifi and applications your phone is good. and then just be carefull in installing applications. this is the best way to check it.

Battery life

Does anyone know how I can find out what's draining my battery?
It goes from 100% to 85% in less than an hour. Just a little facebook and web browsing and it drains. Also when I leave it idle it drains significantly. It'll be great if you guys recommend an app or tips on how to save battery life.

Need to check your sync settings. How often are your accounts set to sync?
facebook is the culprit... even when it isn't doing anything, it's doing way too much. Log out and see if your battery improves.
I use facebook to sync contact pictures only.... just turn off the facebook notifications by going into the app, menu - settings and check off notifications.

Big help: use that app disabling method and disable app that you don't use. Biggest culprits are Google bloatwares such as: finance, shopper, listen, my tracks and many more. Also make sure you use a taskiller that works cuz most are crap and just make up fake number of killed apps. (Ask me if you wanna know how to find out if a taskiller works or not)

I have mine set to sync contacts only as well... works perfectly fine. Very little drain.
Basically, I agree with you. Don't sync notifications ... manually do that via the app if you want to.

You don't need a task killer in my opinion. Use the running services tab in application settings to disable anything you don't want running.

Taskiller is good because I prefer one app running constanly in comparison to 6 or more. The taskiller I use is the one with the red droid icon. To find out if a taskiller is good open it and make sure its not excluded or ignored then click "kill all apps" or whatever. And if the taskiller itself isn't killed then its not worth squat

Exchange email sync has a known problem for high cpu usage. I can't post the link as I'm new, but do a google search for "email sync high cpu" - it's the google.code issue #5424
Please note that there is a workaround that has worked for nearly all users. Set the exchange email sync to "never" or "push". The issue is that with specified time intervals the sync may fail and continue failing, consuming ~50% of your cpu.
I've experienced this myself, and couldn't understand why my phone was so slow till I looked at the processes running and % of cpu usage (via 'top'). I'm experimenting with never-sync and only have a handful of days battery monitoring and guessing I'm getting about 8 more hours out of my battery (again, not empirical data).
edit: I stopped using task-killers after reading up on froyo behavior and more importantly monitoring my cpu usage (again via top). All the apps that were showing "running" in my task-killer were consuming ~0% cpu. They were using memory, but I now leave it up to the OS to manage that. In the end I find that the apps that I didn't want running were eventually automatically stopped by the OS for me.

I have G2 my avg battery life is about 36 hours on reg battery casual usage and about 18 hours with heavy usage (i consider heavy usage data streaming from slacker, using phone as modem via wifi router 150 text messages and about 10 calls). setup i have is 2g when NOT using the phone, background data off & auto sync off, email account set for manual sync.
In regards to Task killer they are worthless on froyo devices use Watchdog app it watches for rogue app that are consuming too much power.
I have a evo battery in my current phone right now and I never worry about battery life. i did a little modifications to get it to fit but it works great (make sure you get the red color battery if thats the case, I didnt get the correct battery originally but i ripped everything off the battery it fits and it works).
Reference this thread for the battery.

Battery on 09-12 2.2 Update

When first updated to 2.2 a few weeks ago i just had to disable 3g and GPS and my battery lasted all day with heavy usage.
Last night i update to version 318. Today with the gps and 3g disabled my battery didn't last more than 8:00pm.
Can anyone point out the cause of this? What magic trick do we have to do again to get this phone working as it should????

You should check your battery usage statistic. Maybe something is using more data (wifi) than your last test.
I guess that even if 3g data or wifi is not enabled, something set to sync every 30 minutes (or less) will still use some battery (in form of cpu processing) to check if data connection is available.

Battery drain

Hy guys, I know that you're always disturbed by these questions, but I'd really like to find an exact answer for my question: is there any solution to increase the battery life with one charging? I use Damnian kernel and ultimate ROM with the basically given setups. Today with absoluttely no usage my SGS scored an 8 hour long battery result, which isn't so good I guess. So what I need to change or recalibrate to improve these results? In some other topics I read about 2 days bat life, but I can't believe that... in the meantime I'm writing this post my battery indicator shows 96 % and when I started typing it was on 100%!!
Thanks for your help, and I hope I'll get a useful feedback.
Best regards, Henry (95% now!).

I usually get a whole day use with lots of use. Maybe you installed something which drains your battery?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I didn't install any program which could use my battery so hard. I was on Darky 9.3 before, than I upgraded to 9.4but there was some issue with calling and wifi driver and finally I installed damnian kernel and ultimate rom via CWM. I have to mention that neither with 9.3 nor with 9.4 I hadn't got a good battery life, but its annoying that with no use(screen off) it drains 30-40% in 5-6 hours...

Some simple tips that you may already know:
Turn off wifi when you're not actively using it. Same with gps.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I usually turn off the wifi if I don't use it, the GPS too, and yesterday I also switched to edge instead of 3g... I'm on 92% now, is that okay? Who knows that there is no problem with my battery just I'm so scared about that, LOL

I think is the network problem.I have SGS in vodafone UK with stock jpy and that drains battery like hell.Friend of mine have the same jpy stock rom with orange UK and his phone can last about 2 days when mine last only hardly one day.And also i think it depends about the signal strenght is well.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
If flashing to a new ROM is not too much of a hassle, then try the new JVK stock Samsung ROM.
I have always been on Samsung ROMs and battery was ok for me. My last ROM was 2.2.1 JPY (Nordic), I could easily use it for a day (~12 hrs) with moderate use : ~40 SMSs couple of short (1~2min) calls, always ON 3G data with push gmail, and gtalk, few internet searches and about 30 mins of streaming or MP3 audio with WiFi/GPS/BT Off and screen brightness at 25% from min allowed.
Now using 2.3.3 JVK Samsung stock ROM. Still too early to say for sure, but seems like the battery life is as good (if not better) than JPY.
With screen off and idling (only receiving texts, emails and few missed calls) it once lasted a whole weekend (2 days). So 8 hrs with no use means there is something definitely wrong with your setup. Either its the ROM, a background app, low signal coverage or a defective battery.
Reality:
1 - From a clean install (no 3rd party apps), you should see no more than 1-2% / hour drain when idling (screen-off) but with push enabled and 3G or WiFi connected.
2 - If you're not getting that, do a wipe and re-install 3rd party apps one at a time and after each install let the phone idle for an hour and confirm < 1% drain. If you see a jump, uninstall the last app and try again.
3 - The screen eats battery like it's going out of style. You can expected 2-3 hours of screen time on auto-brightness and you average 50% brightness, and approx. 4 hours on min brightness.
4 - WiFi when enabled but not connected (meaning it's searching for WiFi) will suck down battery. Disable WiFi when not in range.
Other battery tips:
>> Calibrating the battery is overrated. After a complete ROM flash that wipes /system (and therefore the battery stats). Run the phone until it dies, then charge it till it's full. Then just use it like normal.
>> Disable haptic feedback and any keypress / touch sounds.
This is my experience with any 2.2 / 2.2.1 ROM I have tried, and I always use SpeedMod and the same (JL2) modem.
I just waked up and I'm on 40%!!! So during the night it drains about 50% with wifi off, GPS off, and 3g off... so can you guys give me a link where can i download modems from?
I had installed damnian kernel and ultimate rom with full wipe when I noticed that there is a lot of ROM problems with Darky 9.4, but there is no change...
I hope that is software problem not a hardware one. :-S

Hi, I'm on 9.5 (speedmod kernel)and at first it was thirsty as hell. Look in spare parts app that comes with darky and maybe try setting the activity process manager to aggressive from normal. It might help.
Also have a look in settings/applications/ manage applications and running. Go through the list and try doing a force stop on any apps that aren't needed. Since I switched to aggressive mine uses 2% overnight with wifi on.
Hope that helps.
Ash
Sent from my ****ing awesome GT-I9000
I checked in the spare parts what is using my battery. So these are my results:
Totally since boot:
Running:66%
Screen on:16%
Phone on: 0,2%
Wifi on:59,9%
Wifi running:59,9%
I don't even use online apps, only my Gmail and yahoo account is syncronising and alert me if I get a new mail, and I have Facebook widget and that's all. I don't think these programs may cause that horribly battery life... what if I delete facebook?
Oh, and I don't really understand why the screen on is using a less percentage than the (system) running?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
The SGS battery is always going to be not so great. Try my setup, I usually get around 1.5/2 days usage. I'm on Darky 9.5 running the SpeedMod kernel (best for battery life IMO). I also leave the WIFI ON constantly (uses less battery than 3G/HDSPA/EDGE when indoors) and I use JuiceDefender, which stops programs syncing in the background until it decides necessary and turns off the data connection while the screen is off.
3G Settings
As what I posted on the previous member's complains on SGS battery drains,
Try this:
Method 1
Go to Settings> Wireless Settings > Mobile Settings > Network Mode
if the current setting is Auto GSM/WCDMA, then change it to your prefered network:
1) GSM Only = means WAP Internet / Call / SMS only ( You can't use video call or high speed packet access)
2) WCDMA Only = same as above but with video calls and HSPA
Method 2
Download an app from the market like 3G/2G On/Off by Curvefish.
Use 2G Mode only when Idle.
And let us know the results ^^
I am not pro regarding battery issues but having network scanning drains the phone. I tested it even on my Symbian smartphones and It saves battery. just trying to help

Battery Performance - Post Screenshots Here

I came from a Z2 and that battery was really great. Not only was it a good size but Sony did a great job with optimisation.
From my experience so far the AM7 does well With the battery using it in normal battery mode which is recommended for games and movies. I don't want to use any other mode to reduce performance.
Let me know what you think. Overall I am happy with battery life but they could have optimised the phone better I think.
Here is an example of a heavy day use when I had the phone off charge at 10am and used the camera loads plus all the other stuff we all use.

Me too. Not sure if its correct or not ?
Battery
Phone off charge at 0530 this morning and its now 2307 !!!
I changes the battery mode to smart and it made the battery so much better and made NO difference in performance (from what I can notice) with films and camera.
39% left at 2309hrs after 18hrs !! That's insane.
I can barely reach 1 full day with my battery and Im wondering if its because of all the things running on my phone like I installed Nova Launcher and I have 2 desktop screens heavy with widgets plus my corporate mail is set to auto push my mail. What are your thoughts?

Try this application. For me it works great. Turn on Smart wi-fi and mobile data. My battery runs 2.5 days.

I use 2 emails on gmail. Stock launcher and high auto brightness. The phone gives you notifications what is draining. Post a PIC of battery page like below as that's not right. What model you have ?
thanks. i checked out the app but i cannot suspend my connection when my phone is off as i need to continue to receive message and be alerted anytime. also looking at the features of the app it looks like it is already available in the phone tools of this phone which is why i love it it already shows you a lot of info about apps that are heavy battery users and you can set it in a way where you can have them close and suspended when your phone is off .
What I have done so far is to remove my data manager which is being shown to be extensive battery user and also went back to emui suspending nova launcher (there are users saying its draining their battery) and HD widgets so far my battery lasts longer even with mobile data always on.
shame because i like nova launcher if it turned out to be too much of a battery hogger i may have to ditch it and try apex i can never get used to emui having no app drawer.

Ah this makes lots of sense. I was under the impression the 3gb model was just for the people in China and the 2gb model was for everyone else. I avoided the 3gb model as I was under the impression it would have radios specific for that country. Did your phone come with play store installed already or not ? I maybe totally wrong but this could be why your battery is draining so bad still ?? Let me know as interested.
Could you also download CPU z and take a screen shot of the battery section like I have below. The model I am using only shows 3000mah battery and am wondering if yours shows the same ?

Mine says 3000mAh as well. TL09 model.
it shows the same with me on CPU Z 3000mAh. probably the app is not reading it right. i think i was able to sort it out. took out power hungry apps and suspended apps that i dont need running on the background and i am able to get a day of charge at light to medium usage.
From what i know the gold version is offered outside china although some country doesnt have them. looking at my package the document actually says austrailia.
