Battery on 09-12 2.2 Update - Streak 5 General

When first updated to 2.2 a few weeks ago i just had to disable 3g and GPS and my battery lasted all day with heavy usage.
Last night i update to version 318. Today with the gps and 3g disabled my battery didn't last more than 8:00pm.
Can anyone point out the cause of this? What magic trick do we have to do again to get this phone working as it should????

Sell it and buy a HTC

Wow. That really helps the problem don't it.

You should check your battery usage statistic. Maybe something is using more data (wifi) than your last test.
I guess that even if 3g data or wifi is not enabled, something set to sync every 30 minutes (or less) will still use some battery (in form of cpu processing) to check if data connection is available.

2.1 battery life

Gotta say im experiencing significantly better battery performance since updating. Like having more than 50% left when i go to bed thats having data on all day. I evej bluetoothed 2 albums today which definately hogs power. So im certainly impressed nice work dell.

Agreed.
Still on 70% at bedtime.
2g on all day, some 3g use, a couple of hours browsing on wifi.

Is that compared to 1.6? Then I agee.
They have definitely tweaked the services like gps. Now it takes ages to get a signal. That s the price you pay I guess.
It would be better if we could chose the sensitivity and power consumption of our components. Ie if rather say if I want gps to have a signal all the time or not, or grades between

i made the mistake of using live wallpaper yesterday - hammered the battery (but looked very nice!)
So i'll see how it does today. I couldn't do a full day on 1.6 with regular use so hopefully 2.1 is a step forwards
On the GPS front, I had that issue yesterday - turn off the "assisted GPS" setting and it will improve no end!
yeah a bit more control over power handling could be handy....
after testing without the live wallpaper it doesn't really seem any better than on 1.6?

Live aquarium pity the fish swimming about down't cause enough static electricity to charge the battery
Discovered a batteryhog yesterday:
The mail client eats battery on 1.6. This is the default mail client, not gmail or touchdown.
Had two accounts at 15min intervals, and they caused the phone not to sleep resulting in 10% draining per hour (roughly). Set it at intervals of 1hr, and now I have 97% after 5 hours!
That is an major difference!!

Improved battery performance by turning off data roaming ?

Hi all,
Now I've not tried this myself however a friend of mine who recently got a DHD said he was lucky if the battery lasted a day on a full charge however by turning "Data roaming" off (even though he is not roaming) he is now getting anything between 2-3 days on one charge
Data roaming was turned off by default on mine and still the battery drained pretty quick.
Using data of any kind will affect the battery badly. Notes Traveler on my device is the cause of it needing charging every day.
Same as any phone, the more you disable the longer the battery will last.
If everything was implemented correctly by HTC, turning off Roaming should have no impact on battery life at all (provided you don't use Roaming).
I believe that your friend experienced the typical warm-up phase. For some (a lot?) people the battery life is terrible when they first use the DHD, but it gradually gets better.
Your friend probably attributes the increase of battery life to the disabled Roaming, while it is just a "natural" process.
I'm roaming all the time, and my battery is actually pretty good. If i don't use it much it can easily survive two days. My record is three days with light usage. (That was with the stock 1.72 ROM)
What is data roaming anyway???
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Data roaming is set off by default. And data roaming controls data transfer when you are not on your home operator/network, i.e when traveling.
are your friend meant data connection?

He probably means "3G" off? I've had mine since the end of October and got into the habit of charging the phone every night. But then wondered about the effects of turning off wifi and 3G as, currently, I'm at home most of the time and have a PC with 24" screen to play with. Anyhow, with 3G and wifi turned off most of the time I get 3 days or so from a charge. I haven't investigated turning just one or the other off as life's too short ....

Yeah, 3G uses a bit, so the first thing i did was to disable it. No point for me using it actually, since it's WiFi all over the place here i live. If i need it, i'll simply enough just toggle it on.

You're roaming all the time and then in the next post you say that the first thing you did was to disable 3g... Are you just posting in order to follow others opinions or what?
And btw 3g doesn't actuality use much more power when compared to wifi, if you always use it somewhere where the signal is always poor then it's another thing.

If I meant 3G then that's what I would of said. So just to be clear, there is an option "Data Roaming" that when turned on will enable a data connection when you are in another country. My friend claims that while on his home network he has turned this option off and he has seen a big improvement on battery performance. If this is true or not I'm not sure, I just simply thought I would share his thoughts with everyone else.
I did this, once i remembered where it was and I got my old battery life back. So thats a bonus, not having to take my charger to work!

Hey i new to this, i have a UK I9000, that i recently updated to JVO on kies. I previously had my phone replaced by samsung due to battery issues. but my new one seems to be the same. I can just about get 14 hours or so of use out of it. I have brightness set to outo, auto sync on, have an gmail and an exchange email, also am on 2g/3g auto. i am unsure if i should flash to custom? i keep reading that people are getting 2days out of their battery. i would say that not a heavy user!! could do with some advide! thanks
If I am always in a wifi area I probs get about 4 or 5 days. If though 3G is on i've known it to go from 100% to phyically off within a matter of hours even when not actually using the phone.
Sorry but i am amazed from these screenshot.
I am difficulty arriving to the night.
My phone is having the standard battery, with two google accounts setted on sync and i really use it FEW... 3 hours of display? A dream.
I am on 2.2 because it is branded and i really wonder how u can achieve 2 days. 5 days with moderate use i would shot my head to achieve it.
Someone can give me a good advice?
Also, how are u taking the battery history?
Considering display and mobile data are the biggest battery drainers, we more detailed information than just time on. Give me display usage.

Best configuration for three days of battery!

Hello beautiful, sorry for my bad english!
We can write here, comparing ideas and impressions of all, what is the best configuration to protect the battery?
It may seem an obsession, but now it is summer and it often happens that the cells can not just load it because I have an outlet in attack.
So often I stay off her cell phone.
The Nexus S promises, but together with your expertise, I would like to figure out how to stay on the nexus s for as long as possible.
To understand Configuration: os (cyanogen, stock, AOPs, etc. ...), the kernel, governor settings, launcher, widgets, various tricks (NFC disabled) ...
There were?
Can we make the battery last for three days ?!?!?!?!?!!
-------
Let me explain, I have the latest nightly cyanogen, the 88. Off data always when I'm around and I do not use the internet. I do not need the push, so no active sync. The wifi I turn it on only at home or at work, I have WhatsApp, twitter and I uninstalled facebook to try what were saying that facebook consumes battery. I have launcher pro and Gtasks widget for notes in gmail, news and weather widget for news that is updated every 6 hours, if it's on the Internet, and then all program icons. I have installed very few, narrow required.
The kernel is the 1.3.3 universal netarchy signed cfs (the bfs? Is not that I had to use the bfs what do you think?).
This afternoon I used the GPS a few minutes to find an address, then he arrived, I turned off the GPS and data, with the widgets "Power Control" modified cyanogen.
Some short calls since this morning and some short text messages, not even 10. Some web browsing on 3G, but not much.
Well, after all this I can tell you that after only 11hours 18minutes 5seconds the battery is already 42% (97% this morning after recharge).
I'm not coming to pass even 23 hours which is what you do with a simple stock 2.3.4.
What is the sense I'm in the kernel and cyanogen netarchy? Only to change some other small lockscreen?
I need the battery! And I have already explained why.
The other ROM that you have listed does not come from cyanogen?
They are not "pure" cyanogen changed? Implemented? Correct?
Let me know ....
The AOSP where they come from? They are like cyanogen, a family on its own? O derived from cyanogen, too?
Now I remove the cyanogen and try something else.
What do you suck a lot in my phone? WhatsApp? Imagine if gripping always-sync data and as some of you! Not even 10 hours would last.
In the processes running there: Settings - 1 and 0 process services (21MB), WhatsApp - 1 process and 2 services (8.8 Mb), Market - a process and a service (11Mb) Maps - a service process and 1 (5.8 Mb) Google services - 2 processes and one service (15Mb), keyboard Android - a process and a service (8.9 Mb) - TOTAL: 153Mb used and 152 free.
It's right? Do you have it?
I just do not understand where mistake ... help me ...

in most cases that would be correct but in reality no phone running android without an extended battery will achieve 3 days. BUT my 4g did go 2 days/8hrs with medium usage.
I can see two days no prob with some average use. You could maybe get 3 days if the screen brightness was at zero, setcpu locked at 500mhz Max and constantly toggle airplane mode when not using it.
What fun is that though.

Correct. There are so many variables. Some say their battery lasts 7hrs. What we never know is if their homescreen looks like a widget bomb exploded on it, everything set to auto sync every hour and brightness at 100% while they use it like a mini laptop non stop.
At work I get like 5 hours. I use it redicously heavy almost all day.
The two biggest battery killers are tapatalk and web browsing. If that is all you do, yep you will never make it past a day.

I think this is pretty accurate.
Typically, with average use (by my estimation) I get about 22-23 hrs between charges.
Average use is defined by
*Netarchy kernel overclocked to 1.2GHz with SetCPU (screen off profile set to 500MHz)
*2-3 hrs of talk time (with about -85dBm signal on average - or at least that's what it is when the call starts)
*push email for 3 IMAP accounts at 5min check intervals and sending and receiving at least 75-100 emails per day
*push gmail with 60 or so emails per day
*fancy widgets updating location every 30 mins.
*Seesmic twitter widgets on homescreen updating 3 accounts.
*Facebook widget
*locations service always on
*wifi never sleeping
I think that's most of what's running.
Battery life on the NS4G has made me laugh at my Evo's 8hr charge and has actually made me use my phone MORE out of confidence that my battery will last.

Only the x10, or also every other device?

Heey,
I was wondering, when 3G is turned on, on our x10 the battery dis-charges very fast, wifi drains much less... Is this problem also present for you guys? I know 3G drains more battery then wifi, but this is much more then when I used 3G a long time ago... But I was then on stock 2.1. Now I'm on 2.2.1, and I never had this issue... But now I got it Is it only our device or do also all devices have it?

I have a friend with a Galaxy S, he says on 3G he has 1 day of battery life, with wifi double.
Not having a go just putting my view forward.
I don't really care how many days the battery lasts as long as it lasts me a day! It can charge when I sleep. I take it as a given that the battery won't be lasting days between charges considering that our phones are basically the same as pcs were from a not too distant past.

You say you didn't have this on 2.1. Sounds pretty obvious to me:
blame your current ROM.
I also guess no other device could run X10 custom ROMs.
I have had this issue on 2.1 & 2.2.1 and i have no idea Why it does this.
the 3G eats away at the battery like a pig.
It does not matter what the signal quality is like or what BB you use.
It eats and eats.
SE is aware of the issue but some people act like the issue is not even existent.
I get 2 to 3 hours and then i need to charge and the worst is how hot the phone gets while using it on 3G.

It could be, yes.
However, I don't use 3G, there is no good coverage in my area. I've set the network to "2G only" and I turn on data only when needed.
The problem lies in the mobile radio management, be it phone or internet.
