How difficult is this task?
I asked this about a year ago in the hero forums and it never worked. I like sense but the aosp messaging app was way better than the sense one. Have you tried the sense 3.0 messaging app.
I think the messaging app is part of the framework so it wouldn't work

When I had my Hero I found a thread in the forums getting a lot of AOSP apps like Messaging, Clock, Music, etc. Those are easy, just pull the Mms.apk from /system/app on an aosp ROM zip file then push it to /system/app on the Sense phone. It doesn't work the other way around, though (Sense Messaging to aosp ROM). Also this method doesn't work for things like the Dialer, Contacts. You might have to restart the phone after the push.
That was with the Hero, but hopefully that method works for the Shift as well.

I have a HTC Desire and I recently installed a Gingerbread ROM with Oxygen, and I really miss the HTC flavour. Is there any way I could have HTC Sense or at least the stock apps back on this rom?
P.S.: I hope that I didn't post in the wrong place...
The gingerbread Rom is an ASOP Rom, sense programs will not runn as they need the associated HTC files also, if you run a sense Rom with another launcher over it you will see the programs will run but the widgets won't load, again they will only work with the sense launcher. You can get apps that replicate the look. Get Beautiful/fancy widgets for the clock, but the best is to get launcher pro and pay for the extra, the widgets are very similar

I feel ya bro. Get fancy widget to hold you over till its Ported.

I found those apps in a rom, and as you said, it ain't work... It doesn't even install, only the camera app which crashes.. I wanted HTC Music back, but, fortunately, I found the Honeycomb leaked Music app, so it's cool.
Does the contacts app work in Oxy Ginger. I like the facebook pictures sync. Now all of my contacts are without pics

The Sense contact app won't work. Try SyncMyPix from the Android Market insread. Perhaps it can help.

Or get this dialer, it enables the FB picture sync + HTC Dialer style quick dial :

Def try using launcher pro plus. the dev made widgets specially to look like the htc sense widgets. they're pretty good

Hi
I think this is a common disadvantage of going to a slim ROM... One thing i loved about HTC Sense was its People App and the integration it provided...along with the great "link" feature, made sure a twitter contact, a fb contact, an email and a phone number are the same person...
I am not a developer but I am very impressed and grateful for the developers here... It would so awesome if there was a better contact app which means me with lots more people could switch to No-Sense ROMs
Thanks
How about Go Contacts?
I am actually very suprised at how good it is... Thanks!! And I have been using GO Launcher ever since...
I used to have aContacts in my phone, but I replaced that with the better Youlu Phonebook app.
I use contapps (http://www.contapps.com/) and think it's great!
Touchpal dialer / contacts works brilliantly, got everything you could want and looks very polished to boot

does it use t9 dialing?
Rocket Dial is a nice option, too
Been my fav since cm7 dialer doesn't feature smart dialing, which is rather annoying if you're coming from sense UI.
I love the sense 3.5 messaging app. It's sleek, smooth, and good looking. Is there any way I can replace the stock MIUI app with it? I tried flashing a sense rom, getting the apk, putting it on my sdcard, go to MIUI, and install it. It didn't work. So is there maybe a sense 3.5 messaging theme? Thanks.

To half-answer your question, you cannot get Sense 3.5 messaging on MIUI. It will only work with Sense. Not too sure about the theme either.
I'm not sure theme wise but sense is a different framework

Hi all,
I am stucked by choices.. I love the AOSP ICS rosie UI and features.. but I can't live w/o sense apps and especially HTC Sync. Is there anyway we can have ICS rosie with HTC apps like premium navigation, messages, blah blah and importantly HTC sync ???

Was it possible to change Rosie to ics Rosie?

AOSP! Speed and efficiency!
It's speed and efficiency, over looks.
I've tried them all, but i always go back to Sense 3.5. (Waiting for stable for daily use 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6)
Well.. I was just wondering if we can have all.. aosp sounds fun but HTC have many widgets and HTC sync to provide the convenience that I need.
Will uninstalling HTC sense do the trick or cause the Rom to Fc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It's all driven by personal choice.
I installed an AOSP ICS rom and I loved it, but ultimately, for me the experience was lacking without Sense. So I dropped back down to GB with Sense 3.5.
I'm waiting for a stable ICS release with Sense, will upgrade then
Well, that's why I'm asking if there is any way to combine both..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I am also a huge fan of Sense. But i'm on IceColdSandwich and really love it for daily use. When there will be a working sense ICS ROM i will switch, but for now i'm going with the AOSP one. You can customize it so that it at least looks like a sense rom
do what I do...keep back up of another rom so if you get twitchy you can flip back etc..actually I have three at the moment .runny 4.0...this is my daily I use this more because of sense...ics just because its smooth and...sweet. and now got absolution.I'm not a gamer so save data etc doesn't matter to me..SMS can be retrieved if needed.contacts are on both so..my 10p worth

Anyone else find battery life is poorer on sense roms, or is that just me? I'm currently using IceColdSandwich, really nice rom.
Well, an AOSP uses tons less space and ram, so i would imagine the battery life would be immense on that.
I flashed Virtuous Quattro and that used hardly any space in the system partition, where sense Roms use almost all of the space.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.. what I'm trying to find out here is if there is any sense Rom that is possible to be customised to look like ics without losing the advantages of some sense apps and HTC sync. I'm not into switching roms as I prefer to have one to work as my daily driver.
I know of coz ics Rom can be customised to be as close to sense but without sense kernel, there will still be missing HTC sync and some sense apps.

I've been a sense guy too for a long time but I've recently been following lord's ice cold sandwich rom and I love it more than any sense rom out there.
The great thing would be a rom AOSP
with synchronization, camera and widgets (Sense)
Greetings!
Aosp. I always had sense. But I'm on LC s ics and its great. No more sense for me.

well yeah...launchers..adw have ics themes,launcherpro..golauncher ex has a sweet ics theme, all it does it change your dock etc and app draw, but lets you slide horizontal so thats good anyway...thats the only way your going to look like ics without losing sense, failing that, use the ics theme on a sense rom

Ok I will put it to you simple. The only way to have sense apps is to use Sense. Non of the widgets work without the launcher being used. All of the apps can be replaced with AOSP versions. Not sure about the navagation as I would never use a phone to tell me where i need to go. Sync seems to be a big deal for you and not sure why. There are far better option out there.
So simply if you want to use HTC apps then you will use Sense.
yeah but depends if he wants the widgets..the apps themselves can still work, your not wrong though, the asop is quicker, battery lasts longer.can customize more,..sadly although i have them on my back ups,im a sense rom junkie, gets on my nerves to be honest. im hoping, with sense 4..they up there game now, sense 3.6 is..just with a few added bits not really an overhaul and its debateable whether because its running ice cream in the background if it will actually make a difference
forgot to say, although you can replace all apps from sense with others in asop. The mail app still in my opinion is one of the leaders for that sort of app. If someone could port that out of a sense rom id be chuffed lol
Can anyone explain to me, the reason why an apk won't install in this example:
* I extract Facebookchat.apk from lets say coredroid rom. I try to install it on my phone which is running Black Ice rom. But it just keeps saying "application didn't install" I thought an apk would install universally as long as it's compatible, which it should be right? I just wanted the Facebook chat on this rom. It's happened with other apk files too, but then it will let others from the coredroid install on here?
Sent from my Black Ice'd Glacier using xda premium
Copy the apk to system
Set permissions to r/w, r, r
Then move it to app folder in system
Reboot
HTC apps won't install on phone that doesn't have HTC framework.
If you'll force them on it, they won't work anyway.
APKs aren't universal. There are framework-dependent APKs.
Yes, I just tried and it didn't work. I can live w/o fb chat, but I really like to have it. So there is no way Jack_R1?
Sent from my Black Ice'd Glacier using xda premium
They have fb chat in market i believe.
You can wait a bit and stay with Gingerbread Sense, and when Desire HD and Desire S get their ICS Sense - it'll shortly come here, and you'll be able to enjoy it together with FB chat. Currently all the ICS builds are crappy/buggy anyway.

2 of them, specifically, Facebook Messenger and Friendcaster has a "chat" option. plus there are things like IM+ that are a all in one service.

Actually I have used Friendcaster Pro for over a year, and just discovered the chat application, and it's basically just like FB chat..thanks.Also I have been thinking lately, Im not sure why I flash different Roms, as I am addicted to Go Launcher and the Go Keyboard. But the Black Ice with Go launcher combo is awesome together.
As for the ICS Roms, I too find them kinda too buggy for my liking at this point, and I truly am not complaining because I know devs work very hard on them. But I did try the creamed glacier and it looks cool as sh!t.
