AOSP or SENSE?? - Desire HD General

Hi all,
I am stucked by choices.. I love the AOSP ICS rosie UI and features.. but I can't live w/o sense apps and especially HTC Sync. Is there anyway we can have ICS rosie with HTC apps like premium navigation, messages, blah blah and importantly HTC sync ???

AOSP! Speed and efficiency!

It's speed and efficiency, over looks.
I've tried them all, but i always go back to Sense 3.5. (Waiting for stable for daily use 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6)

Well.. I was just wondering if we can have all.. aosp sounds fun but HTC have many widgets and HTC sync to provide the convenience that I need.
Will uninstalling HTC sense do the trick or cause the Rom to Fc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

It's all driven by personal choice.
I installed an AOSP ICS rom and I loved it, but ultimately, for me the experience was lacking without Sense. So I dropped back down to GB with Sense 3.5.
I'm waiting for a stable ICS release with Sense, will upgrade then

Well, that's why I'm asking if there is any way to combine both..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I am also a huge fan of Sense. But i'm on IceColdSandwich and really love it for daily use. When there will be a working sense ICS ROM i will switch, but for now i'm going with the AOSP one. You can customize it so that it at least looks like a sense rom

do what I do...keep back up of another rom so if you get twitchy you can flip back etc..actually I have three at the moment .runny 4.0...this is my daily I use this more because of sense...ics just because its smooth and...sweet. and now got absolution.I'm not a gamer so save data etc doesn't matter to me..SMS can be retrieved if needed.contacts are on both so..my 10p worth
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App

Anyone else find battery life is poorer on sense roms, or is that just me? I'm currently using IceColdSandwich, really nice rom.

Well, an AOSP uses tons less space and ram, so i would imagine the battery life would be immense on that.
I flashed Virtuous Quattro and that used hardly any space in the system partition, where sense Roms use almost all of the space.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.. what I'm trying to find out here is if there is any sense Rom that is possible to be customised to look like ics without losing the advantages of some sense apps and HTC sync. I'm not into switching roms as I prefer to have one to work as my daily driver.
I know of coz ics Rom can be customised to be as close to sense but without sense kernel, there will still be missing HTC sync and some sense apps.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I've been a sense guy too for a long time but I've recently been following lord's ice cold sandwich rom and I love it more than any sense rom out there.

The great thing would be a rom AOSP
with synchronization, camera and widgets (Sense)
Greetings!

Aosp. I always had sense. But I'm on LC s ics and its great. No more sense for me.

well yeah...launchers..adw have ics themes,launcherpro..golauncher ex has a sweet ics theme, all it does it change your dock etc and app draw, but lets you slide horizontal so thats good anyway...thats the only way your going to look like ics without losing sense, failing that, use the ics theme on a sense rom

Ok I will put it to you simple. The only way to have sense apps is to use Sense. Non of the widgets work without the launcher being used. All of the apps can be replaced with AOSP versions. Not sure about the navagation as I would never use a phone to tell me where i need to go. Sync seems to be a big deal for you and not sure why. There are far better option out there.
So simply if you want to use HTC apps then you will use Sense.

yeah but depends if he wants the widgets..the apps themselves can still work, your not wrong though, the asop is quicker, battery lasts longer.can customize more,..sadly although i have them on my back ups,im a sense rom junkie, gets on my nerves to be honest. im hoping, with sense 4..they up there game now, sense 3.6 is..just with a few added bits not really an overhaul and its debateable whether because its running ice cream in the background if it will actually make a difference
forgot to say, although you can replace all apps from sense with others in asop. The mail app still in my opinion is one of the leaders for that sort of app. If someone could port that out of a sense rom id be chuffed lol

[Q] Which is the best Sense ROM for you?

Recently I joined here again and I've seen some new ROMs with the comming of the official FroYo. I've been here for a while looking for some Froyo Sense ROM and they all look really nice. I've been running Wildpuzzle after CM but it's a bit slow and now I'm searching a better one (if it's possible).
Which Sense ROM would you highly recommend?
Thanks for all and sorry for my bad english!!
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
All Sense ROM's will be slower than AOSP (Non-Sense) ROM's because Sense requires a lot of processing power. You can look at Sunaabh as an alternative to WildPuzzle but I doubt it will be as fast as CyanogenMod.
For me personally, I use WildPuzzle because I like to keep a Sense ROM, and, Live Wallpapers in Sense = Win for me.
I haven't tried any others, but WildPuzzle 0.7 seems very good currently, and not too slow at all, specially if you overclock it.
wildpuzzle v8.0 is the best Rom .
Im using wildpuzzle...
But
For me cyanogen is better, too bad camera recording and radio is not working and some other bugs.
Thats the only reason why im on wildpuzzle.

WildpuzzleROM,even thou i'm using launcherpro to replace sense,i still prefer it over CyanogenMod due to the bugs and different apps(gallery, flashlight, etc.)

If you're looking for something that is reliable and fairly close to stock, just tweaked here and there, I'd say Sunaabh.
If you want a more tweakable and enhanced version of Sense then head over to Wildpuzzle. Can't really go wrong with that one.
I'd recommend trying out an AOSP ROM with a different launcher, like Launcher Pro, if you're game; the phone tends to be a lot smoother that way.

Nothing. Some people do get crashes and instability using it though. Although I have been using the inbuilt ADW Launcher with CM7 since I have been using it, and, there have been no issues.
Also, for people who have spent time with both launchers, they are of the opinion that LP offers more features, and, is more stable.
hm ok...i've been using ADW on wildfire and X10 and 0 crashes or problems...

Hd2 very slow using sense roms

I am using all roms from starting ,i like to use sense rom but i am using miui roms, i like sense roms but in my mobile they are working very very slow so i am using miui roms and missing htc sense so plz give me suggestions wats wrong with sense roms

I have been using only Sense roms since I switched from WinM. Sense 2.0/2.1 have always been fine and there are a lot of Roms available that work great. I am currently using Dungphps Sense 3.0 Rom and I'll admit that at first it was really laggy and had a bunch of issues but it has progressively gotten much better. Currently the V2.3 Magldr Rom by Dungphp is awesome. It might be worth a check if your interested in making a change
Try this rom..
Miui with sense, ultrafast and stable..

it is how it is. Sense roms = slow, miui/cm7 roms = fast. I was allways the Sense guy, till i tried miui Now, i cant imagine going back to Sense any more.

What exactly do you mean by 'slow'? I've found that froyo/sense ROMs run a lot smoother than CM7 ROMs. They seem to flow much better, for example when opening switching homescreens or opening previews, the transition is much more smooth than on typhoon, and that's from experience with MCCM's HD on SD, which should be slower. I get much more RAM on CM7 and apps etc open a LOT faster though, so I think I'll stick with it until a stable Gingerbread/sense rom is released. I'm also tempted to try MIUI, although I hate the launcher.

Sense uses a lot of memory (RAM), so for good performance a good memory manager is necessary. I use that and a start-up manager to control what programs run in the back ground.
Most programs don't need to run in the back ground, they will start-up when executed.

Same here. GB Sense, I tried all of them, never give you more then 1000 on Quadrant. CM7 or MIUI will give you 1200 or 1300.

+1 for Affinity. Despite it being a Sense 3.5, there is little lag even on stock speeds and without supercharger.
If you want something alittle more stock, try Sense 2.0 from Virtuous by rmk40. I've been on all of Virtuous' ROM's and have yet to be disappointed by their Sense or AOSP ROM's.

What you said is very true. Although the expertly crafted sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms have reduced lag to a manageable level, once you run a few intensive apps, then return to the rosie you will experience some lag, unless you play with scripts and/or swap. The issue is not with the excellent work of the devs here, but with the severely limited ram on the Vision.
However, I have yet to experience and kind of lag on a sense 1 or sense 2 rom, and have not required swap. There is so much more free memory with the old sense roms, that rosie reloads just do not happen.
I'm 2nding mike102871 on this. If you really want to use sense as it should be, use sense 2.0 since it was crafted to work on the g2. using sense 3+ is nice, but the g2's spec doesn't actually meet the basic minimum requirement.
I suggest Virtuous Sense. It's the best out there for 2.1

Is it possible to use HTC People app on no Sense ROM

Hi, after going back to Sense rom from Oxylite, I feel everything is laggy. HTC people is still a better contact application I feel, is it possible to do as per the topic?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
No, you need Sense framework for that...
Short answer: no.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Nope, the sense apps and widgets aren't real apps and widgets as they all require the sense framework. Without them, they don't work. This (regretfully!) means you can't use them on a non-sense rom, though I definitely would if I could.
HTCs people + dialer apps are the best out there.

Custom roms pros and cons?

So I'm really thinking about installing cm7 as I'm tired of the sad battery life on the MT4G, however, I'm finding it somewhat difficult to weigh the other pros and cons of switching from stock. There are plenty of threads and videos on how to do this, and plenty that talk about speed, but that doesn't really help answer my questions about functionality unfortunately.
Here's the thing: There are certain things in the stock rom that I don't want to lose in the process and I can't seem to figure out what I will gain and lose by switching.
Here's what I know so far about switching:
- I will have a longer battery life.
- I will lose the genius button functionality, but I can install that separately, so no big deal. I use this for texting handsfree while driving - just connect an audio cable to my stereo.
- The bloat is gone.
Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? Does it look the same? Do I maintain the built in widget sets?
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar?
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad?
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Specifically messaging, Google browser, long press shortcuts (ie send link to: X using Y app), alarms, camera, GPS?
Opinions, advice?
TMO MT4G unlocked/rooted with Wind Mobile, running 2.3.4 (pre security update)
I suggest to move to one of the new non-T-Mobile Sense versions. Sense 3 or 3.5.
You'll retain the functionality that you want, gain some new one, most likely gain battery life, and won't lose the good sides of Sense that you're used to (widgets etc).
In the worst case, it's just a simple trial and error process - you can try different ROMs, and if you decide that stock suited you better than everything - you'll be able to install it, and probably even tweaked and customizable version of it.
I didn't know that there was such a thing. I don't mind losing the ”prettiness” of sense, I just need the functionality to be there.
Any rom names off the top of your head that I can look for?

Here's what I can't figure out:
- How does the homescreen function without sense? I don't even get this question. Does it look the same? Different types of Android look different from one another. Sense has its look. TouchWiz has its. Vanilla Android has its. Do I maintain the built in widget sets? If you go with another Sense ROM, then yes, you will most likely have more sense most ROM here now are 3.0 or 3.5.
- Do I lose the quick settings option from the status bar? In most of the aftermarket ROMs, you will gain more quick settings. Read about the ROMs offered here.
- Will my phone still wake using the trackpad? Most of the ROMs have incorporated this into the build.
- Will all the major abilities and apps function normally? Apps? Yes. Abilities? Depends on the ROM. Some have a few bugs, others don't. Camera seems to be a big issues on this aftermarket sense ROMs, but there's usually a fix somewhere in the thread for that ROM. Specifically messaging, Google browser, long press shortcuts (ie send link to: X using Y app), alarms, camera, GPS?
Opinions, advice? After market ROMs are smoother than stock ROMs and obviously have better battery life as you know. They have much more that you can customize depending on the ROM. After market ROMs are ALWAYS better than stock. So, have fun choosing. Personally, I'm on Core Droid.
