The Galaxy has a Hummingbird GPU, which is more powerful than the Adreno the Nexus has. Actually I believe it is the best out of all the Android devices.

i think the jump from the N1 to the Galaxy is nice but more so for someone who wants to have the next best thing, because I'm certainly happy with my N1 with no hurry to purchase a new phone. My brother on the other hand has a blackberry and would like to try something else so i feel its a bigger jump for him then someone with current specs on a phone.

How about....it's not running stock Android, so it will take forever to get updates... If it gets updates at all. This is Samsung we're talking about. Anyone remember that Behold II? It's finally getting upgraded... to 1.6. I'd also want to know the details on whether any of the Google services have been replaced by Yahoo, as I had read a couple of months back on Samsung phones.

Well there is only 1 good version (pro), the other 4 are gimped beyond belief.
1. Galaxy has significantly better media playback. (mkv,divx,xvid ect)
2. Twice as fast 3D performance. (2x FPS in games)
3. Better and bigger screen. (Super Amoled + bigger ! )

Why in the hell would T-Mo not attempt to push a technologically superior device? I just don't get it....Verizon, Sprint and the DeathStar(at&t) all entice customers with very good devices.... After reading the Tmo Vibrant specs I have no motivation to ditch my Nexus One at all. Actually I'm more inclined to get a HD2 and hack Froyo onto it.

Yeah the screen and gpu are the biggies in my book. Of course, nexus will be made with a tft LCD (I'm sure I butchered itsbreal make) instead of ****ty amoled soon so maybe the gpu will end up being the main attraction. Whatever I just hope there's a nexus two planned for the future
I do like it's name but will be hanging on to my Nexus for a while

Uh.. Seriously? Gimped? I too have no idea why they'd not include a FFcamera but being the bad ass phone it is spec wise, could no way in any shape or form consider it gimped lol... Jesus christ. I would only consider maybe a motoblur device gimped... or possibly the htc aria "gimped" a small fraction. Nevermind.

The nexus s is identical to the vibrant, but it has what everyone wants from their vibrant a good camera even in low light but with flash, and a new os : gingerbread 2.3, in hardware specs its almost identical, software and flash is where it gets better than the vibrant
Dont have one because the only thing it has over the Vibrant that i care about is Gingerbread. The camera flash isnt a big deal to me.
So far so good.
JIT actually works on GB quadrant CPU score is now on par with snapdragon

Covering the bottom left corner on NS doesn't cause signal drop
Like the all around look of the NS doesn't have the cheap looking chrome the vibrant has and no more tmobile or samsung on the front just all black
and also has a rounder look making it look slightly smaller and more sleek along with curve glass

nothing really stands out in WOW factor its pretty much a vibrant with Google support.. And hopefully they port gingerbread to vibrant and hopefully its optimized to take full advantage of JIT because it makes a difference

Tested on road and is very accurate and didn't run into any lost or spotty signal while navigating.
Probably due to the fact that they changed the cell and GPS antenna so they no longer interfere with one another like on my vibrant
Well my vibrants gps is perfect locks within 5 secs accurate compass works correctly and with the new google maps its faster, my vibrant being made recently 10-20 came with preinstalled ji6 which does fix the gps problems, as of now im happy with the vibrant just gonna wait till ota froyo comes which should be really soon, im done flashing custom roms they either made my gps worse or messed up my haptic vibrations ended up exchanging so many times at the tmobile store lol i took full advantage of my 14 day period i think i exchanged 2 vibrants got a G2 hated the G2 so horrible and back to another vibrant. Only thing the nexus really has over the vibrant for me is the flash and gingerbread, but i dont want gingerbread badly enough to sell my brand new vibrant due to froyo coming soon and theres no huge difference between 2.2 and 2.3 compared to 2.1 to 2.2

Just got my Nexus S. The final straw for me was the fact that the official Samsung twitter is now saying that they "cannot pinpoint a date" for 2.2, yet they had previously been saying "by the end of the year." So they should be able to at least say by the 31st unless they were lying earlier. I have lost faith in them and will never buy a Samsung phone again unless it is a situation like the Nexus where they are not involved with OS/software.
Anyways, it is what you would expect. Basically a Galaxy S except without Samsung tainting the software and no restrictions of any kind. Samsung makes great hardware but, damn, they suck when it comes to supporting existing customers and software engineering. The camera is nice, though I hope that they add in support for HD video recording (which I'm sure it is capable of). Everything I have tried seems to be very fast and well optimized. I also like the small interface changes in 2.3. The phone actually feels a little heavier/thicker than the Vibrant to me, though it isn't in a bad way like the MT4G (which is ugly, too, IMO). External styling seems nice though not much different.
I'm happy. I got what I wanted: unmodified/unrestricted Android and not waiting forever (if ever) for updates.

Interesting the 3D doesn't score as well as the Galaxy S....
It also has relatively slow IO considering its EXT4 partitions.
edit: i guess the NS has an option that slowed the IO down, devs have 'fixed' it and its performing as you would expect..
Also think maybe its just a 2.3 problem with apps maybe causing the 3d scores? well see as time progresses.

I hate to break it to you, but that's a hardware limitation. They may be able to add 720p recording at something less than 30fps, but that's the best you can hope for.

I don't fully understand what is being said in that twitter reply... so there is a hardware difference between the Vibrant and Nexus S that prevents HD recording? Seems strange that Google would downgrade the hardware in the S. Then again, they took out the SD slot.

Basically, the Vibrant had an extra chip that assisted with video recording. There wasn't room for it in the Nexus S, so it won't be able to do 720p.

Either way, the solid feel of the Nexus S makes the Vibrant feel so last year. The Nexus S is the most solid phone I've ever held.
Other than that, it FLIES out of the box. Oh and Gingerbread is hawttttttttttt

I held one. See sigtag. Samaung build quality is nothing to rave about. NS feela cheepee than an HTC aria, and the only thing not last year about this phone is the os... At least for a couple of weeks.
Can care less about this phone. I want a 2.2 update for the one I paid for.

Appreciate the enthusiasm but that's a bit of an exaggeration, no?
From the Nexus S forums there seems to be a few people that aren't all that happy with their phones. Various FC's, spotty GPS, poor call quality. I'm seeing more complaints that I thought I would have.

Are you unaware of the season? I know people expect their GPS to work underground but it doesn't ALWAYS work. That and Nexus owners have this sense of entitlement and ***** at the slightest problem as if battery pack just blew up when the battery meter jumps from 100 to 97 fresh off of the charger.
Thank Google for the FC's and poor call quality. Google has some type of noise compression that's software based. Of course, they're controlling the software which means it's supposed to be 100% awesome 100% of the time.
I held one in best buy, and while it is nicer then vibrant, its still nothing special. Gingerbread sucks, I have all gingerbread I need on my vibrant already, I don't really care about game optimization which was the main focus on Ginger. For me its a 50/50 betweeen upgrade and downgrade, the only problem is that its almost 600 bucks....
Hardware let me down, software let me down, maybe developers will surprise me.

Yea might have FC but thats because software isn't working with 2.3 and needs to be updated. This is the developers responsibility not Google...Gingerbread is perfect and run absolutely fine.
Also FYI you will always find people complaining about one thing or another doesn't matter how revolutionary and stable a product is...even more so when you dont actually have hands on experience and seems to be looking for as much negative things possible to justify your decision on not getting it
Give it time apparently cryogen team are working on porting to galaxy s
Also dont think im just trying to justify my purchase and will say anything because this isn't the case i still have my vibrant and have 14 days to return to get my money back....so far im keeping it

I wanted to say that Gingerbread has very little to offer. It looks good, it has updated copy/paste, keyboard, and optimization for games. I have all those things and more (due to TouchWiz extras) except for optimization for games.....
And frankly speaking, Nero v1 (obviously with JIT) runs very fast and has zero FC.....and it only gets better day by day.
JIT has nothing to do with NS running a bit faster, its ext4. and even after that people are still reporting "laggy browser" in NS, which is THE ONLY issue I have with Vibrant right now.
I think I'm kind of having sellers remorse, even though I sold it for $200 with it having some cosmetic damage (i'm usually very careful with my phones but i dropped my N1 like 1000 times!!)
i actually feel like I ripped off the guy even though it was in perfect working order and i threw in my extra battery and a car charger...
im gonna miss my trackball and colored notifications... PLEASE DONT LET ME REGRET THIS LG!!!
using an extremely old Nokia 5300 I had back in '07 till I get it ... yeah serious sellers remorse kicking it right now! hah

I don't think I could ever let go of my N1. I feel like it's become a part of me!
No doubt about it, sooner or later I will feel the need to upgrade. That's just the way technology works. But I always like to have a secondary device to fall back on in case of any problems - if my main device gets lost, stolen, damaged - even if it's just so much as a dead battery and I desperately need to make a call. Having a second phone can be a life saver. Plus, the Nexus One is so versatile in terms of modding. With so many ROM's to choose from, and still quite a bit of active development within the community - this phone seems far from dead. Google created an amazing piece of technology, and even when their sales strategy may have flopped, those who have had the pleasure of owning one know just how special it really is.
I recently parted ways with my aging HTC Magic which I kept as my backup device, so maybe I'm subconsciously considering an upgrade after all. There are so many options now, I wouldn't even know where to begin. G2X, Atrix, Nexus S, Evo 3D, etc... But one thing's for sure - my Nexus One is far too important to me to let go of.
I wish you the best of luck! And hey, you could always buy another used N1 if you begin having Nexus withdrawals

This is true, this was actually going to be the first smartphone I kept before/after buying a new one but I JUST moved and rather make my new phone free (I qualify for a full upgrade) so I can put that towards some new furniture. 200 isn't a lot, but it can get me a kitchen table!

Im probably gonna get g2x because of all the bands it supports. I think it will make a great travel phone too once unlocked.
It is just the "plain old" 1GHz MSM8255 / Adreno 205. While still sufficient for most uses, it is hardly a cutting edge.
But the biggest problem in my view is the internal flash storage, just a tiny 320mb.
It should be perfect otherwise to make me want one. But it isn't.

I feel ya. I just listed my Nexus on ebay today, and I am getting the LG. Probably buying it outright for 499 so I can sell it when something else strikes me in about 8 months, however I will miss my N1 for sure. The N1 is a great phone.
Don't regret it. Going from a Nexus One to a T Mobile GX2 is a definite upgrade. You're getting a bigger screen, faster processor, better camera on the back, front facing camera, more responsive touchscreen that supports multitouch, and a faster 3G/4G radio for HSPA+, and the phone will have AT&T 3G/4G bands....you made a good choice....
I'm also considering the G2X, but probably just save up and buy it outright and keep my N1 as a backup.

Oddly enough I've got a N1 and a Samsung Galaxy S 4G in front of me, and the N1 has whiter whites than the Galaxy S. Everything was turned on max brightness, too. I was a bit taken back, I was expecting the galaxy S to have blown it out of the water.
The only thing that sucks hard about our N1 is the fact that the actual LED screen is a couple millimeters below the glass. This makes pinpoint clicking a bit tougher at odd angles, in addition to all the extra glare/reflection from the extra layer of space between the glass and LED.
Sorry, but as an N1, vibrant, 4g vibrant owner, Samsung has done hardware justice. The samoled is just the bomb. I just wish the updates came on time as it were.

its damn slower than my htc evo shift...seriously not like in opening app and other stuff like launcher but in typing and touching screen have to press lil bit twice almost most of the time..charging slower than my htc shift...and it eats up all the ram everytime i open and see in task killer only shows 60m..where in shift it was always around 80 to 90m remaining same apps and everything infact not running any htc apps..and no notification lights no for charging and non for text or anything
i would suggest you guys to stick with shift and just dont worry too much about updates..wish htc had made this one too just like nexus one

When I leave this phone, it will be multi core(so not a nexus s), it will not have a locked/cryptographic signed loader(so not an evo 3d), and it will preferably be a four inch or smaller screen (I may have to concede on this one though the way they are going)

Wouldn't get my hopes up for Honeycomb, Google pretty much stated HC is tablet only and Ice Cream Sandwich is going to replace both Honeycomb & Gingerbread by the end of the year. So more then likely we'll get ICS long before we see HC for phones.

I'm in the same boat as you...except for screen size. No way I'm "upgrading" to anything but a dual core at this point. --------> Photon 4G or Sunfire or whatever it will be called

I'm guessing you had a Moment? The Transform is actually pretty nice for a low to mid level device.
I would also have to agree that when I switch from my shift a dual core is a must. As far as the Nexus S I wasn't impressed by it's design nor its specs. No expandable memory being on of the biggies. And no improvement in processor versus previous galaxy s phones, not 100% sure. I can't see what this device has that makes it superior to others, rather than just being vanilla android.
I'm not happy with Samsung's plasticy feel of their devices either. Makes them feel cheap. I do like the AMOLED screens but not the dotted effect that some (including me) can see.
However, I am seriously giving the Galaxy S II phones consideration when choosing my next device. Specs wise seems rather nice. Has dual core processor, nice camera, and expandable memory. And the Super Amoled Plus screen seems to correct the dotted effect of the previous Amoled screens as the rgb colors are evenly presented.

You my friend need to root your phone. Secondly, the nexus S 4G has not been out very long, and samsung is typically slow on the updates. I do not know if you ever had an EVO 4G (not shift), but when i originally had mine, it was absolutly horrible in terms of responsiveness and battery life (battery still sucks). This was 3 months after its release.
Why is this in the shift forum? Not to be an ass but I don't think this is necessary or productive. We need an offtopic forum lol

This is just a guess, but I think ALOT when on behind the scenes on the Nexus that we don't know about. I mean how would google allow their flagship phone to come out with technology that is outdated by almost a year? I think this phone was in development, and got held up, and by the time assembly on it started it was too late to scrap it. That's why there is another rumored Nexus that should be ready come Holiday season. Have to make up for your mistake somehow.

Yea I agree with you. I didn't think Google would have purposefully put out a technologically inferior flagship device unless they had issues while developing.
If other galaxy s phones are any indication, probably took that long to get gps working.

Not all processors are built the same. The iPhone 4s has an A9 Cortex based SoC clocked at a "mere" 800mhz, but it beats pretty much every other phone on the market today in several benches.

Ah yea. Optimized clock cycles / instruction sets. Same reason a 3.3GHz 2500k can kick the **** out of a 3.3GHz 1100T (4 vs 6 cores)
I personally won't be buying this, doesn't seem like a huge improvement. I'd rather wait for the Galaxy Nexus and all the amazing phones that will follow. That and I have no money now lol

I'm bummed they removed the fingerprint scanner. That's one of the great things that made the Atrix standout when I was in the market for a new smartphone.

I really hope this 4.3" display thing dont get too pop, hate to say but my atrix is the biggest phone I will ever have, not moving from 4" :/
I dont like this release, for atrix it was writen in the manual that 1080p record would come out and now atrix 2 has it, this is late release of what atrix should be...my next android phone will probably be motorola but I will wait till ice cream sandwish with real improvements and maybe even kal-el proc.

My thoughts exactly. Apparently most people's FP scanners either never worked or just stopped working

Don't care officiall. No finger print scanner is one thing, no TEGRA is another. I realize "chainfire" can make it happen, but the promise of full PSX and PS2 support by Sony for Tegra chips is something I don't want to miss out on. Also, this doesn't seem like an upgrade but a replacement. Almost like a ploy to make the SGS2 seem better than it is.

I'm not. The FP scanner was very buggy when I used it. Often it would fail to initialize, requiring a reboot. Sometimes a reboot didn't even work, and I had to delete my current fingerprint profile and rescan my fingers in. Also, if you use one of the new lockscreens where you can unlock directly into an app, the FP scanner is useless since it defeats the whole purpose of the rotary lockscreens.

One, PS2 games will not be released for any current generation Android devices most likely. They'll need the Tegra 3 quadcore processor I would guess. They don't have enough processing power to emulate a PS2 at the moment. Two, you would only be able to access a limited number of titles through the official store for the PSX games. Right now you can emulate the entire PSX library. Not sure why you'd wait for the PS Suite when you can play such games right now.
The design isn't bad(besides the missing fingerprint scanner), yea it would be nice to have an 8mp camera, but i feel that the Atrix is a lot better, and honestly, i would rather get the iphone 4s over the Atrix 2.

Hold on! I've only just got an Atrix 1 today
Mind you, the whole reason I didn't go for the obvious (Sensation) as my upgrade is the 4.3" screen. It's just massive! Whereas somehow the Atrix doesn't seem much bigger than the Desire despite the bigger screen (well, it's a bit wider...)
