Appreciation of devs - XPERIA X10 General

I finally made the decision to buy an arc. Wasn't easy to stop using my x10, tbh, and I still can't bear to sell it. This post is just a thankyou to everybody who made the x10 what it is, i.e. J, Z, WB, Trip, rdannar, kx hawkins, cobrato, rendeiro et al. Only J is properly deving atm with CM7 though the phone is pretty awesome now it's rooted, but I am missing the Rom options... Once again thank you.

Hey man, congrats, if you can't sell your x10, send it this way, mine's dead lol

Good bye buddy! Have fun there! I will wait till the next powerfull quad-core phone that will be released.

I think buying Arc now is not good idea. x10 still rocks. Better wait for next generation device (2 cores maybe?)

So do I.
Arc is nice... but why ? Whats the benefit to a X10i ? Android 2.3.3 ? The Exmor R Sensor isn't ! Adreno 205 ? isnt that much better, and not all people play all day long. ^^ And besides... X10 looks way better than Arc! i just don't like the shape of the buttons....
Thanks a lot to all the Developers who improved the X10i until now, and i hope your gonna make a better 2.3 with custom kernel when its out!

Yeah, too much is going on in the Android scene...
I decided to wait one more year, get the most of my X10 and then move on!

Ditto. Unless my x10 breaks i'll keep it for as long as i can. I've considered a xperia play though, because buttons are essencial for games imo, but maybe i'll wait for the xplay 2.
Edit: many thanks for all devs for tapping on the potential of the x10 and making it better.

May be getting offerd a new contract due to the faults on my x10 - what phone?

Well being on my second handset and having serious problems the that even the shop cannot get sony to sort out [virtually un usable reboots + overheating] I may be getting offered a new contract if they can rather than a 3rd x10. What would you go for? UK - Orange, thinking desire HD. Love my x10 appart from all the problems with my un-luckiness but never mind will be glad to be rid of the problems
Desire HD is great, but everybody sais that the battery last only for a half day. If I were you I would get a Nexus S or a Galaxy S (maybe Desire Z)

Do you think you could get a short term phone.. and then arc?
I think stock android is extremely ugly. And also, the Nexus S isn't exactly a looker... might be hard to adjust from the X10
I say wait for the Arc
I think you'd have to be retarded to buy an arc personally.. after seeing how they do business.

better to get Galaxy S . HTC's service is good but i didn't like most of their smartphones i bought (Pure - HD - Diamond ) And they have a bad signal and battery doesn't last long.

Couldn't agree with you more. I actually went through X1, X2 and X10 before I woke up.
You won't have to worry about buying the Arc anyway. It will be released 6-9 months late like every other SE "flagship".

I also think you should go for the Arc at least i am. I have been extremely happy with the X10 and dont really care about SE Updates being late as all i care is being able to mod it and have devs supporting it. All the people complaining from SE are just ...idk you decide, just look at all other companies Apple, Samsung, Htc they all have their own problems just look in their forums and see the same story..people screaming f..k Samsung never again f...k Htc etc.. I really do a lot and i mean alot of research before i buy a phone and let me tell you the x10 suited me alot more than a galaxy s or a desire or an iphone and ive had the galaxy s (just horrible phone...fast but unreliable plastic garbage so i said never Samsung) and i still have an iphone 4 well my wife does..that phone is so limited its not even funny..anyway all im saying is do not listen to never SE again and etc.. SE have been making nothing but great reliable devices. Now the Arc is coming with the latest software so i dont think you should worry about any updates soon and plus x10 has a very good comunity here and i beleive the Arc will also and it will probably be the same people that own the x10 and more. Do your research and see what you like and what you want to do with the phone, remember its what you like not someone else.

I think they are changing their strategy.. they admitted that they went about the X10 series in the wrong way.. I'm going to wait for the Q2 flagship, which should be a dualcore with ffc(not that i need one) but it will be a lot snappier I hope

By saying "We know we made mistakes..... butttt we aren't going to do anything about it", they are simply trying to convince previous customers this experience will be better, while at the same time winning over new customers who might have heard bad things about the x10, et al.
Just a lame marketing ploy. Now, if they were willing to actually step up and at least give us froyo, I, for one, would change my tune greatly.
I would be telling my friends to get the arc instead of the opposite (as I do love my x10, thanks to the community on here.), as I just hate the way sony ericsson choose to do business.
The Arc looks so good, I'm willing to forgive any of SE's sins
One device I'd really like to have in the interim is a Desire Z. 1.8Ghz baby
The Desire Z (T-mobile G2) is almost universally considered to be a good device. Better battery life than Desire HD i think. LOTS of developer support.

come on xperia x8 user. rise up...and wake up. there will be no update for x8. even do you can install custom roms. but, it wouldn't do no good. cannot run with the current specs. i follow x8 for too long now and i already trade my x8 with samsung galaxy mini. its really worth it. yes, i admit the UI and phone is not that good, but the Android is too good to be true. imagine a low cost phone can run android 2.3.4 and have 284mb of RAM. trust me you wouldn't regret when you buy this phone.

Oh yeah, we "wouldn't regret" buying a phone that's like the x8 with more ram (and slightly more internal storage), but a smaller and crappier (256K) screen. Come on...
I know that sony won't update the X8. It's no use doing that to them, because they want to sell newer phones, but I would never go to a smaller screen.
We dont need se updates , we have doixnah, racht and lot of other great devs and community which making x8 better

Just by looking at the screen of galaxy mini you can say x8 is far better. Besides we have fully working CM6 (2.2) and CM7(2.3) ROMs that WORK quiet nicely on x8 hardware.

well even if they didnt they could not deliver what our devs are doing
and they are already loosing loads of money and making no profit
their xperia play was a epic flop
and xperia neo never came really into the markets
its just the arc which is a bit too pricy compared to the fab htc sensation and samsung galaxy s2
and till the next set of phones arrive it will be january
Could not agree more.
Only if Gingerbread DX perfected with fully support for flash lite at least,
then I'll keep my x8 for 1 year more. Go to H3LL S.E!!

For all the haters: yes, it's still a rumor and even if it's true that they're investigating to upgrade it, they still can decide otherwise. I just wanted to let you know that Sony Ericsson didn't forget about the X10 completely.
I guess we're in the lucky position that the 2011's software is very easy for Sony to port to the X10 and therefore they can try to get some reputation for their improved update policies.
This rumor is coming from the same source that previously announced the Gingerbread update and the first SE dual-core phone "Nozomi" ahead of time, so I'm sure he's not trolling.
So please don't start flaming this post or thread. Everyone can decide for themselves if they want to believe or not. I just thought some of you would be interested and maybe reconsider an upgrade to another phone. (Although I'll probably upgrade to the Galaxy Nexus nonetheless )
Regards
qwer23
hope so.......
I don't think the X10 is going to get official Sony ICS because it's an old device (sad but true). Yes SE has committed to the Android Handset Alliance which promised to give its phones 18 months of firmware upgrades whenever a new version of android is released in that period. However they joined the alliance after they released the Arc, so in fact we are already very lucky to get even GB.
Also, the X10 is way more than 18 months old now, which SE/Sony is not obliged to give us ICS (official)
Despite the chances of us getting Sony ICS is slim, we have official CM support now and we can hope that they'll build us an ICS update.
If its done than its for their good
Coz SE have a bad reputation for not keeping their phone software updated as they had done to x10 in the past by saying that this phone won't update beyond 2.1 but afterwards gave an update so the ICS update can be for improving their reputation in software updates but I don't believe this

By the way guys I heard from a friend of a friend who heard from a very reputable source that the X10 would continue to be supported until at least Android 6.0 . rumors are such an easy thing to make up.

Goodbye my X10 friends!

hello everyone...
hope u all are doing great!
as most of u must have realized, recently i am not very active in the X10 device sub-forums... i love this community as X10 was my first true smartphone and this device community has been amazing in all aspects! its like a family... we all have gone thru a LOT, the exciting times of bootloader bypass kernels, GB on X10, hacked bootloader, etc all the drama with delayed updates, Mr Trip, Mr Anderson and the sheer disappointments thanks to SE ... it was a GREAT time for me, as i made many new friends and learnt a lot about android... when i got my X10 i had no clue about android but i learnt stuff thanks to the wonderful ppl of our X10 community...
anyways, i have finally decided to stop my development work on Xperia X10... if anyone is interested in carrying on with my projects feel free to contact me via P.M.... most of the sources i have used (kernel, recovery) are posted at my github account: https://github.com/DooMLoRD
dont worry i am not leaving XDA anytime soon (atleast not in the next 4-5 months)... i am/was actively involved in development for Xperia ARC, PLAY and contribute to development in lots of other device sub-forums... BTW i plan to buy the Sony Xperia S or ION and HTC Zeta or Edge... so if any of u are getting those device then u can find me there soon (once i get those devices)
so this is a goodbye to all my X10 friends, i hope to see u guys around XDA/other places...
here is wishing all of u guys best of luck for u future, may u all have a wonderful and happy life!!!

Thank you so much Rahul for everything you have done. You have mentioned it yet what a "special" device the X10 is. So your relentless input and selfless work was so much more important than on other devices imo. You were really sent from heaven, man
But awesome that you mentioned the Xperia S and HTC Ville because when nothing spectacular will happen at MWC one of it will be my new device, too.
Glad to know that there will be at least one kickass dev
I hope you forgive me this offtopic question. But since you have learned so much about developing for Sony devices do you think the Snapdragon S3 in the Xperia S will be future proof? Or do you think that the HTC Ville with its S4 chip will be much better not just in battery consumption but in power as well?
Thanks for everything,
Matt
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!

Nypon is from what I have heard targeted at mid-high end segment...
Novathor will be an interesting platform, but I personally prefer Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, raw powerful CPU core... NovaThor has a good selection of gpu core, though not sure how powerfully r the CPU cores... I am more interested in what the A9600 chips have to offer (next gen novathor)...

QUick Q: Will you still support the Xperia Play? I'm using your amazing Kernels on it and I would hate to see support for the Play get even worse

That's great to hear
Stages of griefooMLoRD Bye to X10 friends
SHOCK!: No it can't be happening. I don't believe it!
ANGER!: You can't be doing this to us. "You too Brutus?"
ACCEPTANCE: The X10 has to go someday; with the brilliant and great developers associated with it on its XDA forum.
RESOLUTION: I finally got me an Samsung Galaxy SII and impatiently waiting for an "ice cream" treat.
DooMLoRD thanks for EVERYTHING that contributed to make the X10 still a great torchbearer for android phones. SE (now SONY) will be foolish not to invite your expertise.
I see you are never going to change your forum name but to me you will remain HoPELoRD
I've been a little inactive lately, but that's because my HTC Sensation has been taking up my time
Thanks for all your hard work DooMLoRD. Just to reiterate what LJE said, you are one of the people here that everyone sincerely liked and respected. Good luck with your next project.
