I was very pleased to read this-
http://www.gsmarena.com/200000_samsung_glaxy_s_phones_sold_in_south_korea_in_10_days-news-1786.php
Considering the fact that stocks sell off like hot scones in the UK and there are even shortages, and the fact that the device is selling well in the U.S even before carrier-based versions started selling, i see a bright future for the Galaxy S platform.
If in south korea alone it sold 200,000 , and in the UK Clove, Expansys and Handtec had severe shortages untill several days ago, i'm guessing it already sold over 300-350K worldwide.
Again, even before carriers around the world started marketing it.
Now i want to see what happens after carriers around the world start selling it, if these kinds of numbers will continue to flow in, i think it's close to impossible that samsung won't support it for a prolonged period.
Share your 2 cents, i'm having great expectations right now.

^ Yeah, I lol at that one.
But OP, your right. This is Samsung's all out effort to gain marketshare in the smartphone area. They are #2 when it comes to feature phones (dumb phones). However, in smartphone market, they are #4 or 5. In fact, last quarter they LOST market share. Analysts have projected that in a few years, the majority of phones sold will be smartphones, so it is imperative for Samsung to gain market share and win over customers. You can not do that with products that are unsupported. I bet they got a wake up call when HTC came out of no where and gained market share quicker then Samsung did. In fact HTC (which is very small company compared to Samsung), has a greater market share than the big ol Samsung. They know for a fact that with increased relations with developers, that their handsets have gained sales. Samsung created an open source distribution website where source codes for most of their products have been released since April of this year. So that is a good positive step in the right direction. Also, we all know Samsung makes great hardware, however their software side has been less stellar. Its beginning to be changed as more money and resources are pouring into the software side.(Bada, new R&D center in India devoted to software, new emphasis by corporate to focus more money in software etc).
I hope we are right.
As far as I can see, Samsung is winning customers over HTC right now. I am one of those, and I spotted many others in the forums.
IMO the point is that HTC's success has been largely undeserved, but rather based on the efforts of people here on XDA; on the contrary, it looks like they did everything they could to make people run away screaming. Despite all the work that has been done, even developers on XDA have never found a way to get a performance from, say, the Touch HD that could at least be called acceptable, if you look at the specs. Marketing a device as the "ultimate multimedia experience" and then selling it without proper drivers, is just pure BS. And this incredible problem affected an entire range of products for at least two years.
So, I would say, HTC should be paying a much higher price than they are, for their behaviour... we'll see in the next few months. I know I sound harsh but I seriously hope they lose it. Samsung FTW
OP needs to change his topic to something less misleading. When i first glance your "bright spot" made me thought that the new phones have some defect in the screen.
I thought your post was to say that samsung sold many phones with defective "bright spots" on their screens.

Fixed, although i'm sure even kim jong ill wouldn't mind a galaxy s.
And now can someone please translate AndroHero's post for me? i'm having trouble trying to discern what language is that.
Anyways, now that samsung is selling masses of their flagship phone, they have to be completely retarded to not support it properly. It would be equevilant to commiting suicide.
Also, it sold a lot on their "home court", if samsung will let even koreans down, their cellular department is going to take a major hit.

Hello,
Here is a little article about samsung vs apple, there is a nice section about production lines.
It's a Korean article transleted into English.
[too bad I'm new and can't post a link] To those still interested by the article, you can google search "askakorean apple vs samsung" first article!
It's maybe a bit out of context, but since you were talking about shortages.
If someone would be nice enough to post the link so it's easier for everybody

Interesting to read someones opinion, but that's all it is. My other half is Korean, and she, like I work in the electronics industry and we're both intimately aware of how Korean giants like Samsung operate, the key element in the Galaxy S isnt rapid turn around, its a change in corporate policy towards the design of the phone, by involving hundreds of potential users in the development stages.
I also disagree with his premise that the iPhone 4 is a 'great' product. I've had a play with an iPhone 4 and I think it suffers from Form over Function. It's actually a little uncomfortable in the hand. It may be made from glass and steel and look great, but such hard materials with squared off edges and profiles doesn't sit right in your hand.
The objects we most commonly hold in our hands are cups/mugs, pens and computer mice. They're rounded and softened, ok household mugs are ceramic from a practical materials aspect, but even a travel mug has a rubberized grip.
I just don't get the hysteria over the IP4, when I look at it I do see a photogenic object, but I also see a design fail.
Leaving the comfortability issue aside, i'm bothered by the durability aspect.
Using superhardened glass may be good against scratches, but without a shock absorbing frame of some sort, the harder the galss- the more prone to shattering it will be, and harder glass shatters more catastrophically.
"regular" hardness glass usually gets cracks or little shattered points.
Superhardened galss- it's "all or nothing". Either nothing hapeens, or it shatters completely.
Deciding to put the glass ON the frame instead of IN the frame (like previous iPhones) was a much bigger design flaw than the less-round corners IMO.
I'm hearing a lott of buzz about samsung using mostly plastic, and how "inappropreate" it is for a super high-end device, but from a pratical viewpoint-
It's durable, it's cheap and easy to replace it's comfortable, and it doesn't block reception as much as more expensive materials.
Indeed, my BlackBerry is plastic, and that's never been an issue.
Do you see the huge difference in viewing counts between SGT 10.1 and Asus transformer in forums? Although SGT is a better product it seems that Transformer is more popular. I wonder why.
I'm sure it is the fact that the dock and sd support right out of the gate had something to do with it. Not to mention that a lot of folks already had experience with eee products and people tend to lean toward more comfortable environments when given options. I swore off Asus after my last few laptops. Their quality dropped off and the screens were the worst I had had in years. Bad screen=bad experience for me.
Price. Solid tablet.

I wouldn't say the Sgt is a better product, just a different product. The Sgt is a tablet in it's purest form, whereas the Transformer is more of a hybrid between a tablet/netbook. Your requirements will determine is the best product for your needs.

Transformer has been out a lot longer.
Also initially it's a lot more tempting. $100 cheaper tempts a lot of people, not many have seen the build quality reviews, nor have they seen that Asus is heavily backordered on all accessories, even simple critical stuff like sync/charge cables. Lose/damage your cable and you're screwed.
Samsung has the same proprietary cable problem as Asus, but at least there is availability of replacements, not just from Samsung but from third parties.
This was the main reason that drove me away from the Transformer.

+1 on this. I hate to say it, but that's what brought me back here. It had been so long since I had posted in the forum I couldn't rememer my account password. I had to open a new one. It's all good. I needed to be more social. I usually just get the info I need without posting. Plenty of people asking the same questions more than once on these forums. Hence the read forums only on my part. That and I can come across rather harsh sometimes so, i keep it to myself. But, over the years I have learned more people generally mean more problems.

Another factor is that many generic Android questions get answered in the earlier forums and become more device specific in the newer (latest device) forums.

A word of warning. Chinese vendors have recently released a multitude of tablets that look nice on the outside and act nice when you first turn it on. The problem that's been floating around the internet is that they often die after a few days. These are cheap imitations of the real thing.
Please stay away from these products. Buy from legit vendors or retailers. The last thing we want is to encourage these counterfeit/fake companies to expand.
Added by edit.
First, it was the Iped. Now, it's the Apad. There's also the Superpad. There's a reason they name them so closely to the Ipad.
I don't mean to put down foreign companies. But we really do have to watch out for these fake tablets.

This is why I said I am not dissing foreign products. I fully understand that most things these days are made in China. But there's a difference. Products with legit names have (hopefully) better quality control.
Again, why in the world would a product brand named almost a perfect immitation of a real thing that's popular? Iped. Apad. Superpad. Etc. If a product can stand on its own silicon feet, then let it. If it needs to imitate to sell, then chances are it's got something to hide.
People often try to talk me down when I share my concern. So, let me repeat. I have no problem with products made in China. I do have a problem with these companies that are springing up all over China that pay little attention to quality control and sell their products through cheap imitation of real popular things. We as consumers need to stop supporting these immoral practices by staying away from these cheap imitations.
Fair enough. for the most part a lot of rogue sellers on B2c platforms, and auction sites do not qc products before shipping - this does not mean the product is inferior: it comes down to how the seller qc's / tests / describes product before shipping.
It is not fair to make assumptions about company qc. ChinaGrabber.com is actually a USA site if you do a who.is search.
Lastly, many people on the apad.tv forums, including myself, have bought the "Branded" iBex Flytouch3.
ChinaGrabber is also a supporter of the forum so if their products have quality issues, including iBex tablets, I am sure people would be complaining. For the most part, I have only seen positive reviews.
The GS-708 is a new tablet so it will probably be a while until people get it and review it.

Again, I am not dissing everything that comes out of China or embracing everything that comes out of the US. There are honest to god legit US companies that have been created for the sole purpose of having an American sounding name and American base to sell Chinese, often inferior, products. An example of this is the company called Augen based in Florida. I'm sure many of you have heard of the Augen gentouch series. These are really cheap tablets that pretty much have everything that's wrong with them. Quality control is nonexistent. Tech support is nonexistent. The screens are made of plastic instead of glass.
For a time, I was curious enough to look into this company. What I found was that this so-called company name Augen has exactly 7 employees, including the so-called CEO. The company base is in a hotel suit. So, I went a step further and bought one of their products. I then pretended to be a complete dummy and called their "tech support". I asked some questions that any newbie dev would know. It was painful to listen to the guy's half-cooked answers. Let just say he didn't even know what a kernel was.
Augen is now selling what they call their espresso series. Very shiny pieces of plastic. Completely not worth anything at all.
The point is again let me repeat myself. We as consumers need to discourage such immoral practices in the trade by staying away from these fakers. Yes, most of them are from China. But there are a number of them who are based here in the US. And I am convinced they are all over Europe as well.
If the name sounds almost like something really popular, best to stay away from it.

This kind of business practice reminds me of "mockbusters" - movies named after the most popular moves of the moment to hopefully convince people to waste cash on some b rated crap by misdirection. I spent two weeks of research before buying my Iconia - easy to see how if i had not done my homework I could have been totally ripped off.

Yup. When pirates of the carribean 2 came out, a soft porn movie came out called "pirates". Being a zombie fan, I've seen dozens and dozens of cheap budgeted movies with very similar names to high budgeted movies.
We need to stop endorsing these practices with our money.
Hey folks, I have to agree.
I bought a couple of inexpensive Chinese tablets on my tablet journeys. One was the Haipad M701-R that wasn't so great so I sold it. The other is my current 7" cheapie: a Rena3 that is actually an okay piece in most respects, but suffers from poor video playback due to shoddy support by the manufacturer with no promise of...anything to fix it anytime soon or...ever maybe.
What you save in money you lose in ongoing support, even with the better built ones.
The closet full of coding slaves the small companies have is only good for a couple of firmware revisions at best before the next big device they want to sell has to be coded for.
REAL support ends up being through the community in the form of someone in the know creating custom firmwares for these cheapie tabs, if you are lucky.
IF
The satisfaction level with my a500 is through the roof by comparison, and the firmware came down the line on it's own and WORKED.

I would warn anyone off ChinaGrabber.
I bought a Flytouch 3 10" tablet from them.
The GPS was locked to Chin.
The battery lasted 1 hour after charges, and later on the charge would not 'take'.
Finally the battery exploded, destroying the tablet and filling the room with toxic fumes.
ChinaGrabber's answer to the GPS and battery was to send me to some dumb forum and I was told to try the things posted there.
When I did try them and told them it didn't work they told me that doing these things invalidated my warranty.
PayPal (the scamming bastards) upheld my payment guarantee complaint, but then reversed their decision - they said to get the refund I had to send the item back in the condition I received it, I told them it was melted, cracked and burnt from the exploding battery, they said it's either condition-I-received-it, or no refund, then cancelled the entire claim on me.
Don't buy ChinaGrabber, don't use PayPal..
Check out the Rena3. It is a dual core tablet with a &
I've owned a couple of the cheaper Chinese tablets...one M0003 7" and a 7" rockchip tablet. I gotta say, that while it was fun to take them both apart and dork around with the insides, the fact that I ended up needing to take them apart to fix them should be a good indicator of quality control. The touchscreen went out on the first one, and while I could still use it with a mouse, it was useless as a tablet and the second had a shoddy joint at the battery and I had to resolder it to keep it going. After those experiences, I decided to go with a better name and got a Gtablet. Still have that and its ticking away like clockwork. My 6 year old uses it to play Angry Birds and watch videos every day. I got my A500 for my daily driver and have not been disappointed at all. I don't think I will ever buy another knock-off tablet again. The use-ability just isn't there, and the QC is questionable at best. My advice is if you want something with 3g capabilities, try to find a used Xoom or A501 on Ebay or something, cause even used it will be a better choice than a no-name.

He deserves the right to whine. Samsung delays again and again with every update. The 10.1 will again be the last to be on ics for the last Gen tabs. Its stupid and annoying how they can pump out devices and offer garbage support. They said may, I wouldn't be suprised it gets delayed till July or something.
I think manufacturers should just stop giving date estimates. It's kind of silly really if you ask me. Especially being that people will hold you to it like you pinky swore with them that an update is going to be released at a certain date.

Excellent choice. And with it you get:
- A HannStar display with dead pixels, color temperatures that vary from device to device, and a connector cable that can be disconnected that requires RMA'ing the device.
- An AzureWave (vs. Broadcom) Wi-Fi chip that doesn't work with A2DP or support 5GHz.
- In the case of the Prime, you get:
~ Useless GPS and Wi-Fi signal fluctuation due to the aluminum back cover.
~ Screens that develop stress cracks from pressure created due to variances in assembly.
~ The total loss of your warranty for rooting.
- Dozens of other QC and manufacturing issues (see their forums).
This is from a Tech Republic tear down: ( http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/cr...ardown-solid-tablet-but-not-without-flaws/399 )
- Clean internal layout, but why all the yellow tape? The Transformer Prime’s internal hardware layout is clean and well-organized. Unfortunately, Asus also used a lot of yellow tape throughout the device. Practically every connector is covered with a piece. This makes me wonder about how well they would hold on their own.
- Quality control problems during assembly: Asus appears to have quality control problems with the device’s assembly. Our test unit’s battery and LCD each had two empty screw holes.
- Little metal shielding on motherboard: There is almost no metal shielding on the motherboard. Perhaps the Prime’s aluminum case provides enough protection from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference, but it’s still odd to see so little shielding.
Asus does provide tons of updates but you need to pick your priorities.

Along with the phone you get a matching pink S-Pen and a folding case. Interestingly, though, the phone is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as can be seen by the look of that Google Search widget and notification bar. The current Galaxy Note devices, as we know, are slated to get the update sometime this quarter with a special Premium Suite of apps - gsmarena.com

Damn i hope so ....KEEP YOU FINGER CROSSED....
That girl displaying it looks very tasty.....and erm to keep on topic gotta be a good sign ICS will be out soon enough!
if the phone's screen is not a sticker then it is actually ICS , android 4.0 !!!!!!
but what is that supposed to mean
Are the majority of galaxy note owners girls?
I'm wondering because samsung's note commercials, even apps target female population (cutting out shoes in commercials, fingernail painter, makeup app...).
Kinda strange as it's such a huge phone

I think they are making a big push towards females for this phone. Mainly because males are going to be more interested at first glance. Females may not at first since most females have smaller frames/hands. It makes sense that they would have more of a push towards females to maximize sales. The Dell Streak had almost no advertising and I don't recall many females buying it. At least not on here. There might be some, but not many. I think that Note sales are stronger for this. The S pen makes it more enjoyable to use with 2 hands instead of thinking, "ugh I always have to use 2 hands". The idea is that if they can show that females with smaller hands can use it, and enjoy it, then anybody can.
This isn't really based on any real numbers or anything. The just a guess and opinion. I'm quite possibly wrong.

I have met 4 galaxy note users in New Delhi, and all of them are females
The guys seem to be kinda scared for big phones , which is kinda strange haha
Here in Singapore, I've seen slightly more female owners than male. Most of the guys who have seen my phone say "So big? It's not pocketable!" Perhaps Asian guys generally smaller built and hence have pants with smaller pockets.

Valid point.
I got it as soon as I saw 5.3" + stylus, they didn't have to convince me a lot to move from sgs2 to the note
Someone in the main ICS thread (HINT!) pointed out that the Korean Note is actually different form the N7000.
I guess it is the chinese/korean version again. But if it was released we would have firmware already in this very forum.
