Just wondering if anyone in Austin is experiencing this problem.. Currently my phone can make and receive calls/texts/etc but data (both 3G and 4G) are not working... most of the time not at all, but occasionally I will get a minute or two of service.
This is the third time this has happened in the past week and a half. The first time, I contacted Sprint and the chat rep didn't mention any outages. The 2nd time was a couple of days after, and here I am again with the same problem, again. This time the Sprint rep I spoke to on the phone said there WAS an outage in Austin, but he didn't mention the area that I'm in and he says it will be fixed tomorrow... but what about the other times? Something doesn't make sense.
Anybody?
Having the same 3G issues but my 4G seems to be working. That and wifi are the only things keeping me going since about 10 this morning.
Think I may be having the same problems here in Houston, haven't tested it to be sure though...
Houston here. Problems all day.
1x/3g/4g all working here.
3gand 4g been down all day there back up but slow bt upload speeds are hitting 1.5mps and download are same use to be 11 mps. This is in odessa texas thoe

Pretty sure LeBron James is going berzerker on the whole state of Texas. Hopefully he takes out some Republicans in the process.

When I contacted sprint about the issue they told me it was on my end, then "I know how important data services are to you" WTF! Admit the problem and tell me there will be a fix at whatever time....
By the way if it wasnt for republicans here in Texas our state would be bankrupt like California.
Had same problem in DFW..Seems better today

Yeah, Republicans like Rick Perry giving $4.5 mil to *another* one of his political contributors while the state is gutting education. The contributors company sued the state from releasing its grant application, which was deemed public information. Funny that remaining $2 mil + was given yesterday, the day before the company agreed to release its records. Among the findings....hmmmmm.....2 out of 3 people on the board of directors didn't even *know* they were on the board? So they submitted a false app, contested it being released to the public, got paid out $2 mil + and THEN released their app, clearly showing the guy committed fraud? And we're cutting education funding but we still ponied up $4.5 mil for this?

Lucky us, indeed.
Back on topic, I called Sprint last night regarding another issue, and the message playing indicating that they were aware of a service issue. The advanced tech rep I spoke with, Patti, acknowledged that, as well. But my 3 and 4G were humming right along during the "outage" so I dunno....

The rep on the other end told me that they know that I was the guy who stapled Amy Rabbinowitz's maxi pad to the blackboard in 9th grade. They say they can tell that and a whole bunch more from pinging my phone because it's rooted. The say that if I don't publicly apologize on her Facebook page with 72 hours they'll cancel my contract. I told them no way they can't do that but they told me to read the fine print of my service contract, they can. No courtesy call or anything. Worst part is, Amy Rabbinowitz won't approve my friend request, so there's nothing I can do. I'm just sitting here waiting for the 72 hours to pass and my Evo becomes a paperweight. HELP, WHAT CAN I DO?!?!?!?!?!

Remember: it's not enough to unroot and go "s-on." You've also got to check the "ROOT OFF" checkbox under Menu-->Settings-->About Phone--->Superuser Settings. In fact, you must do this BEFORE you unroot or Sprint will cancel your service and charge you a double ETF.

LOL! That's really funny...
There has to be more to the story. I think Sprint is tracking the rooted users that use the wireless tether and have large amounts of data downloaded. Not just the mere fact that your rooted. Just my .02 cents.
Its like modifying a car. You get a programmer to reprogram the car to perform better the manufacture i.e. Chyrsler, Ford etc cant call you up and say you cant drive our cars anymore. But if you have a warranty yes they can decline your warranty because of it. Same goes for the phone you root it and have a hardware issue that is when Sprint can decline against repairs etc.
I have found that a small aluminum foil tent placed over your EVO will prevent anyone from gathering information from it, this is especially important to do at night when it is charging or whenever you are tethering.

Agreed (not the 3D part... you will never get swapped up to a flagship phone) but then this is also where the "you had 30 days" comes into place. Not trying to be a bad guy, I work for retentions and I get thousands of "this phone sucks" 31 days or 45 days or 60 days after it was purchased. Just like you, we have rules we have to follow at the work place and policies in place so, no, it's not that we don't want to help, but you as the customer must also help yourself. A corporation like Sprint, TMo, AT&T and Verizon can not hold all of their customers hands. If you had issues, return the device, replace it, get another and let the company know that the phone is not working that way, by not purchasing that device - getting a device and "hoping" for a fix is not a good strategy and you're only setting yourself up for failure.

ok so under under status theres MIN and it should be a 10 digit phone number with your same area code.
now if you enter *#*#msl number#*#* and go to edit where you see the MSID, what should the number there be? the same as the MIN? and should it be editable?

Your MSID is random and it doesn't necessarily have to be the same area code as your phone number.

Well the reason I mentioned the 3D is because it is the same price as the NS4G is/was on upgrade ($199). I figure they are basically just crediting what you paid, and most people would probably go to the 3D is they were gonna swap phones. If I paid $199 and the phone has a pretty glaring defect, I would want the amount I paid as a credit... that's all I meant.

Exactly. At some point I just stopped talking to them at all, it's completely pointless. Same with computer shop staff and car dealers. An evening with google is way more productive before a decision on something important/expensive.
Yeah before I got my note I was ringing up every phone shop asking them if they knew when the Galaxy Note would be in stock.
I would then receive the reply "Don't you mean the Galaxy Nexus?"
No I mean the Galaxy Note.
"Hmm I don't think we do that phone I'm afraid."
Yes you do.
"Okay, well let me check the system.....*after a while* Oh yes we do sell that phone but we have no release date yet I'm afraid."
Then when I did buy my phone the guy instore was amazed with the phone..never heard of it and couldn't believe the size of the screen...Why do they work in these places!?

Not that I don't agree but its interesting to know how did you come up with that %number.
When the Note was released, I wanted to see it before purchasing it to get some idea on the size. In the UK we have the CPW (carphonewarehouse), anyway I made the mistake of visiting their local store...
Me: Hi mate, do you have the Galaxy Note in stock?
Him: The what?
Me: The Galaxy Note.
Him: Whats that?
Me: A phone.
Him: We don't sell that phone.
Me: Are you sure? Will any other CPW have it in stock?
Him: Are you sure it's called the Galaxy Note?
Me: 100%
Him: One sec I will check our system. *checks* Nope we do not offer that phone at all at any of our branches in the UK.
Me: Even though it is on your website?
Him: Erm...
Me: BYE.
Absolutely utter tools some of them.

Finally I have somebody who speaks my mind!
It may be worse here in the USA but I have listened in when my wife has called and they really are complete morons sometimes. Just today I went into an att store and the sales person swore up and down my note would not work on their network, and they had no idea what the damn thing was. Oh and I had to inform the person it was coming to att soon which they were shocked.
They amaze me sometimes

They are absolutely have no interested in the job or career they are doing. For them, they just come to work, end office hour, then go back home. They only interested in their salary they get every month ;'d

During the time i lived in the US, i worked for T-Mobile in customer care. Due to my experience with Windows Mobile devices i had much more knowledge than anyone in the technical care team. But get this, on winmo devices you could only have 1 hotmail email synced on the device and in our system which held info on the touch pro 2 and the hd2 there was listed a "known issue" of only being able to have one hotmail account on the device. The listed remedy? A matter reset! No one at tmo, who write this stuff had even worked out you could sign out and sign back in with another account. Total chimps the lot of them.

Not to sound like a douche but come on guys.
Most of the people working at places like CPW, Bestbuy or whatever are there simply to sell stuff that they have. Those stores have hundreds if not thousands of different products and it is literally impossible for any salesperson in those places to know every single product they sell inside out or even all the product names.
Even companies like AT&T that sell mostly phones and broadband stuff have tens/hundreds of items. Being a tool at the salespeople in these places is just that, being a tool.
And just in case some of you didn't know this yet, for a salesperson the most important thing is to know the few best products and how to promote them best. Even though I love my Note, I'm quite sure it isn't the leading pulling factor for electronic & phone stores.
However I do agree that in after sale -services such as helpedesk or troubleshooting they should have people who actually know what they are talking about.
In Ukraine every single clerk knew about SGN, its delivery dates and other tech specs
Perhaps it is because of huge advertising campaign by Samsung about this phone.
Why restrict it to phone company employees?
When the SG2 was released in the USA, I went to take a look at one, just to see if it looked small compared to my Dell Streak (I have the note now). Walked into Best Buy...had no clue. Went to an at&t store, they had one on display (functioning). Sales drone came up to me and asked if I was looking to buy that phone, told her no, I had a 5" screen, whipped out my streak. She said "oh, that runs android doesn't it?" Yes it does. "well, I only try to sell iPhones because they are better than android". I just laughed and walked out the door.
Hey, if you like your locked down tiny screen, you really can't do what you want to YOUR phone because Apple says so...be my guest. Not me.
Thanks for this thread
For a long time I thought that this is only in germany the case the nobody knows what he/she is telling about stuff what they are selling
It is really terrible, because in most cases you are paying for it, for the good advice
I am happy now, I now know that this is a global problem, so still use google and then buy in www is for me still the best way

Thank you. I have to wonder how many of the people in this thread have actually worked retail. It's a crap job, it doesn't pay much, and in most places there isn't much time to really learn deeply about the products you're selling. They're probably not geeks, because if they were they'd probably working somewhere else most of the time. I'm not expecting someone who gets a low hourly wage to invest their off time in learning the products they sell, and most of them probably don't make enough money to buy a lot of the stuff. Even if they wanted to, your typical cell phone store is selling hundreds or thousands of phones or accessories, and the stock is always changing.
Look people, it's a job, hardly anyone does it for fun. They have a basic level of knowledge because 95% of their customers have even less knowledge, so they do fine. These people put in their hours and get a paycheck, because they have bills to pay, mouths to feed, just like you or me. Treat them with a little respect, okay? They're people!
If you want to blame someone, blame the company that doesn't provide enough training, because it costs too much, then blame yourself for not being willing to pay significantly more for your toys in order to fund the training the employees need to meet your standards.
Blame the company. 3rd party sales do not train for crap. This is from personal experince. Sales numbers are all that matters. Hell I've worked retail whwre my manager disnt know how to uninstall a program from android. I also worked for tier 2 tech support for Sprint (3rd party), I found it sad we were hiring tech support people that didnt even know how to unistall a pc program (seriously 2 people they hired didnt even know what control panel was!)
What seems to happen is these companies get 1 or 2 tech savvy people amd lay it all on them
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yep.
Oftentimes we see advice to "go to a corporate store" or only deal with them for serious matters, but in fact, non-corporate stores can be a big help. Here in my area, the local corpstore got sold, and bought by a 'premium reseller'. With that, I found out yesterday, came a repair center. Awesome - I needed one. My headphone jack had become quite useless.
I went in, and within 20 minutes, one of the employees had replaced my headphone jack. No damage, no defects - 100% perfect. And much quicker than I expected. Thanks to TEP, I walked out without paying one red cent.
Why post this? Primarily to counterbalance the feedback on noncorp stores and Sprint repair centers that has come about here. Another user had his Epic all but destroyed by a sloppy solder job - quite unfortunate. But it's worth recognizing that such cases are a minority.
Fun fact: the employee who worked on my device built his Epic from a bunch of spare parts. Cool.
Andrew at the Auburn AL location: if you're reading this, thanks again. Got anything custom on your device? And did you notice I actually had both of Yelawolf's major releases ready in the music player?
Very cool. Good info to have. Also, I find It interesting you're in Alabama. I am as well.
Edit: Might as well. Roll Ride.

I'm the guy who had his phone destroyed by a faulty solder job.
Despite that, I was forced to go back to the very same store with the replacement epic a week after when it's screen crapped out. I ended up getting a good chuckle with the repair tech (different guy) as he put the guts from my new phone into the case of my old phone I since it was still in their inventory. Now I have a frankenphone of my own lol.
Overall it was a good experience at the end of the day.

War Eagle, brother. I'm not sure if any soldering was involved - but if it was, it sure was quick.

Haha... I love yelawolf! Been banging that since trunk music dropped! But yeah seriously the non corporate store here in columbia is great... I broke my screen and walked out with the screen replaced in about 15 minutes... they are uber helpful and always have been with me and my wife. I don't even go to the corporate store anymore!

I usually advise people not to go into sprint stores at all unless they bricked their phone.

AMERICANS! Lol..I'm in Georgia, and I suffer the Epic as well..well, did suffer it, on my fourth one now (first two I thought had faulty compasses because the SkyMap app would not show anything but UP even when pointing down- did you know when you calibrate your devices' accelerometer in the settings you tap the button and then place the phone SCREEN DOWN on a level surface to get it calibrated? Neither did the guys at the store...or I for that matter, until phone number 3, hmmm).
Any of you guys have a riffbox?

I've been to 3 corporate stores and 2 non corporate in the last few days. Sadly none of them were able to help me out but all were courteous and helpful. I usually go to the non corporate store down the street when my Sprint phone (various) have needed service and they've done a wonderful job.
Back story on the current problem in case anyone has any advice. A few days ago my epic had a sad accident where the LCD has developed a crack causing it not display anything. ADB tells me the guts are fine and the gorilla glass doesn't have a mark on it. Sprint told me with TEP that screen replacement is free (IF they have a replacement screen around). Short of it no one has a replacement screen in Central Ohio it appears and no one will just order a screen. So it appears I'm stuck with the $100 deductible on the TEP... sucks
Asurion (I believe that is right) sent me a brand new phone with activation instructions and a return mailing envelope for my DOA phone. Just call the folks at customer service and explain to them your problem- no need to go anywhere, they should send it right to you..and you won't be without a phone for the RMA/repairs! I am sprint with TEP too, if that is what you are on they should do the same for you.

Thanks for idea I'm looking into them. The online portion bounced me saying for this kind of issue talk to a Sprint Maintaince location... I'll try giving Asurion a call tomorrow and see if I can get a better answer.

I just called Sprint Customer service..I dropped my phone and the screen wouldn't even come on, though touch was still active (could tell by haptic feedback). The Sprint CS will arrange it, not sure if calling Asurion direct would accomplish anything, I never did. As far as I can tell, they handle the warranty for the sprint TEP plans.
I no longer go corporate since the local reseller moved and upgraded its status and can now do almost everything corporates can. It saves me about 110 miles of driving.

*Guys I felt the phone was buttery smooth, but on certain occasions I.e. lock screen ripple transition into opening your home screen and toggling between messages in the messaging app, the transition would s stutter just a tiny bit. Problem is solved if you go into:1. Settings-> developer options-> and Window animation scale and Transition Animation scale -> change both of those to .5xThe phone now runs like the beast it was born to be. Try it and let make know your thoughts. Regards, Nik

On a recent trip to Nigeria I noticed quite a few Galaxy Notes in circulation, and some tech aware contacts I met had various Android handsets in addition to the almost mandatory BB phones. How's the uptake of the S3?
The s3 is causing alot of stir...yes it's true that bb is really strong here but the galaxy note is becoming really popular here and with the introduction of s3 I think Samsung have got a game changer in its hands

You gotten the latest update yet?
The one with the brightness slider in the notification drop down.
I'm waiting for my 5million dollars from your ex-king's wife's brother's friend's butler.
BTW someone almost screwed me over on ebay with email address from UK account and female name but the shipping address from nigeria. he/she Bought my LG O3D within minutes of posting and told me she'll buy any ohter phones i had. So i sent pictures of iP4 to him/her and she/he said they'll take that and to send the invoice. After i added all the things in invoice, she/he emailed me saying payment done to my paypal account. I then got an email similar to confirmation from paypal/ebay. But sine i'm not stupid i rechecked the email address from where the pay/ebay emails came from and those were from some weird webmail site. I forwarded those to pay/ebay and they confirmed phishing / scam emails. Then i complained on ebay and blocked the fker.
Hope there are more good people there than the scammers there since for last 10 years i've been hearing scams from nigeria.

And how does your post address the subject matter of this thread?
By your warped logic i am allowed to go to any thread posted by any individual of any country who i think scammed me and post non-related thrash or sob stories there? Right?
Please in case you hadn't noticed this is a thread about Nigerians who own a GS3.
If you have any complaints or sob stories about perceived criminal activities involving any nationality i am sure you have a police force in your country you can report it at.
So please stick to the topic of the thread.
Thank you.

Not surprised about that.
Samsung is going to sell a lot of this particular phone and the price is just right.
I remember the S2 came in at 120K
98k is under £400 which is significantly cheaper than UK prices. Can you guys check the country of manufacture? Mine here in the UK just says Made by Samsung beneath the battery slot, and the battery has 'Cell made in Korea, Assembled in Vietnam'.
