Cmon lets us accept the fact that KiNgxKxKlair has most ROMs on xda. I have tried few of them only to wipe again within minutes!
Reason:
-Slow
-Late indication of incoming call
-Problem in signing to Google universe
-Too many similar sounding ROMs
May be am sounding like a noob but these are the problems that I always face with KiNgxKxKlair ROMs. Of course they look good and comes with all the goodies such as AOSP, grat splash screens, Sense etc. But it fails miserably once you try using them for what phones a really meant for-making calls!
This is not really a rant; I appreciate the work and his time! Just my two cen ts.
I was in the same boat. Couldn't deal with how slow the roms were.
I'm thinking it's because 20 out of 21 of them are Sense roms.
DroidEris2G1 is awesome...
Yea, they've always been slow for me, too. :/ He does good work and is dedicated to it, but in the end I just like my plain ol donuts.
check the "How to get Hero to run Fast" thread. Sense isnt nearly as slow as alot of people are complaining about. The more people ***** about the slowness of the ROMS, just proves that they dont know what there doing.
I avg. 2.2 on a linpack with sense(not the greatest, but its sense) and I've never came close to missing a phone call.
And all this coming from a Noob
i just flashed king's sense **** for my girl's phone. at my first look i'm not so sure about it. it's laggy, unresponsive, and basically a failed attempt in my opinion.

Sense roms are as slow as people complain about, I would know. I stuck with them for over 6 months before I flashed any other type of rom. I now know that Sense is an ugly piece of bloatware that has features that can easily be emulated most other places in a manner that exceeds expectations. The ONLY thing sense has going for it anymore is the widgets, and I feel sorry for HTC the day that widgets like that become commonplace for Android.
That being said, at least it's not Motoblur or Touchwiz.
Ok so i have had the fascinate for a while. I switched to Verizon because they have the best service in my area. I was on ATT with Iphone before.
The phone feels cheap but a great screen
It feels smooth when useing the apps but horribly slow when using the UI itself.
99% of the market is themes and ringtones.
No new games all are ports and old games that I had on the iphone a year ago.
The UI is ugly to me unless I use Launcherpro then it gets Nice. There are no Good scrollable widgets in the market at all. So far without Launcherpro widgets would be pointless!
The GPS lock time is horrible (Yes I know theres a fix coming, which some say realy does nothing)
Ive used some of the roms with kernels in clockwork mod... honestly I see no Improvment compared to Launcherpro... touchwiz sux.
I love the hardware of this phone...except the plastic feel. But coming from a Iphone i can say It just doesnt compare. Push notification apps are rare on android.
I know this is the best option ...only option on Verizon. But I do miss my JAILBROKEN IPHONE. With a jailbroken iphone I was able to do so much more. better theming, skins , even widgets.
Just my thoughts. I expected so much more from Google.

Please go get Another Iphone
If you don't like it, I saw that the iPhone is on sale, you could probably get a new one. GPS is fixed, just not in an official update, but it most certainly is working. And games will come, it will just take some time. Gingerbread should help significantly, as well as the growth that the Android platform has experienced the past year.

You are completely entitled to your own opinion. I just wish people didn't share them on a development site. Go to cnet or something.
good day.
I'm starting to not like this thing either. As a phone with it's basic functions, it does fine, but dammit, there is an almost TOTAL lack of attention to this thing from the dev community, which tells ME no geeks bought it.
Back when I had my TP2, there was a ton of custom roms, and constant development that made that thing very capable.
I think you can even run Froyo on a TP2 now.
F*ck me this thing sucks.

there is plenty of development going on for this phone..however its not currently here on xda
Atleast im not the only that feel this way. I thought I was missing something. I played with my friends Incredible .. I liked the UI almost the same as my Launcherpro add on.... but it looked better with a few more options....but it was slower than launcherpro.
As far as Apps well I think its going to be like that Untill Google stops the fragmentation. They should force Manufactures to update All phones in a timely manner atleast for 1 year
Ill give it till January and see if any other options are available. I love GOOGLE but Im not loving Android anymore. I think the thought of openess was a great idea. But Its lacking with developers wanting to make cool apps.
Like I said in January Ill see where Android is at. If its not moving foward in the DEV/MARKET area ill get a windows mobile or Iphone.
Thanks guys!!
Android is the platform that recent surveys have shown will receive the most new development. More so than iPhone/iPad and Windows Phone. I don't think it has to do with fragmentation so much as it takes time to realize where the market is going.
Just 6 months ago, there were only a handful of Android devices out there, and most weren't exactly powerful devices that could do gaming and many other things. Because of that, software companies put their money and time into making games for the iPhone as it could handle games better than the Android phones of the time. Given the lead time in creating a game or some of the complex apps out there, places probably only started on them recently.
Android didn't really take off until this past summer, at least not in a mass market way. There were rumored updates to devices, but no one knew how they would do where the iOS platform had a 3+ year history. Now that Android has taken off, companies are playing catch up.
I just decided to return the phone. Ill wait it out till january and see what is announced.
Just not enough good Applications to warrant being stuck on this OS. If things change maybe ill revisit it again.
Thanks guys and Goodluck.
I love it too much!
The new phone feeling hasn't gone away and I'm two weeks in.

Sent from HTC Evo, the REAL iPhone killer....
Hey, most of us have had our EVOs for months and still haven't lost that fresh feeling new tech brings.
It's actually rather difficult to lose it with all the excellent ROMs and support we have access to here.
For example, I recently switched to a newer ROM that has swype. I'm suddenly addicted to writing, posting, texting, and emailing from my phone. These new interest get me looking in new places for more apps and such, and the process repeats!
-Just warming up!
The new phone shine is gone for me. I guess I need to flash a new rom or learn how to write apps or something.
You have been EVOfied.
Had mine since November, its still in my hand 24/7
Bought mine on release day and I am still finding new things to play with all the time. Most of the people here are great and willing to help and the dev's keep putting new little tweaks in the rom's.
Just signed up for dropbox, and that is awesome. And the utorrent app w/ 3.0 alpha on my desktop is amazing It seems like it is never ending!!!
Granted, this is my first android phone and before this I had a blackberry curve that was hell-bent on making me kill myself - this is the coolest device i have had in quite some time!
Cheers!
Every time I get bored with my phone I find something new to tinker with, some new program to replace an old program with or some new program to do something new and cool with my phone. Right now I'm busy learning how to automate my phone with Tasker.
lol, i must say, i'm not a big fan of "big" phones, but the EVO is technically not all that huge. i prefer slider phones, but the on screen keypad is really easy to get used to. this phone definitely rocks and should be the iphone killer. the qik application is a bit disappointing to me since the 4g is not all that great, and my g/f doesn't have a wireless router (yet), but i'm sure once i get her one, it'll be top of the game. htc and android are the best team!
P.s. I have root and don't even care to put any roms on here, the stock is great, just removed the bloat and my battery life and performance is uncanny than any other droid i've had before.
I know the feeling! I used to drive 10-20 miles down the interstate before I realized that I had left my BB at home. Now I don't make it to the kitchen without turning around and snatching it up!
Got mine at xmas...
someone help... I think I play with this thing to much...
it is affecting my other important things in life....
I need to stop...
i need to quit....
is there an app to make me put this thing down for a few hours?
ps.. I am talking about my evo!!!!
lol! let someone in your family put a lockcreen code on it lol
... but then you would probably sit for hours trying to figure it out
Best bet is to just feed the beast.
You could always use Tasker to pop up regular messages to tell you to stop playing with it or you'll wear it out.
This is my first Motorola Android phone as I came from the Evo. But my question is with everybody keep talking about motoblur slowing the phone down...particularly the Atrix...is this a proven fact that motoblur is slowing it down? And I hope I don't come off wrong when I ask that, but I seriously want to know. I used Motoblur and to me it's great. It allows me to resize widgets and add more widgets to the screens, unlike HTC widgets that take up the entire screen. And I also installed Launcherpro Plus which is a great alternative to Motoblur if one so chooses to use it.
I for one was honestly thinking about going to the iPhone, just because I got my wife one and the popularity of it. But damn, that phone is really locked down, it's no way I can switch to that thing. You can't facetime Chat off wifi and a lot more other things. And I have yet to see any type of navigation app that could compete with Google Maps.
But nevertheless, I like the Atrix and everything about it. My Co-workers was amazed at the speed of it and the crispiness of the display. Sure it's no SAMOLED screen but it's way better than the Evo and I assume the Inspire as well. The battery life of the Atrix is what made me keep it over my Evo. And for all the Inspire phone people, the Atrix runs circles around the Inspire without being OC'd. But imagine if the Atrix was overclocked...then what would the Inspire Fan Peeps be saying then...oh I know, it'll be tread entitled, "I returned my Inspire for the Atrix ......"
I think all these threads about people returning the phone is that people see other phones coming out and they need to find a reason to return the Atrix to make themselves feel good. I mean, for every excuse people then posted for returning the phone, is a fix...
Don't like motoblur----Get Launcherpro or ADW Launcher or some other launcher
Lagginess-------Check your apps, maybe go so far as uninstalling them all and reinstalling them one by one to see if lagginess is still present
Battery Life----check what you have running and check for partial wakes
Locked Bootloader----I guess if you're into roms and stuff and don't want to wait it out, you have no choice but to return it.
if all fails, factory reset and/or get an exchange.
But why exchange after the first problem you have? If you want to return it just because you don't like it or it doesn't fit you...then by all means, please do. But if you're unwilling to put forth the effort of 5-15 minutes to try and fix some of these issues then go get an iphone or something that's VERY SIMPLE. Because what some people would do is get rid of the Atrix go out and get another top of the line Android device...have issues with that or complain that it's a feature missing that should've been there...and the cycle repeats itself.
In addition, like I stated in my other post somewhere on here....it will be updates for this phone but give it time. The Evo had issues and everybody got all uptight now everything is all good. It's one of the most active sub-forum here on xda.
Wow....sorry for the rant....I just had to get all of this off my chest
Amen! Agree 100%
People return this phone because it has a LOCKED BOOTLOADER. All their hopes to get custom Roms are shattered. Lag here or there don't matter because Android OS itself is a laggy OS compare to iOS anyway.
I personally think that iOS is the better way to go because of the well designed environment. Android's premature and also update is a mess which causing so many fragmentations.
Hopefully WP7 can solve that universal update on various hardware. Sometimes too open is not a good idea, because manufactures use the open software to develop a close platform on top doesn't benefit consumers directly unless you do the hacks.
Sigh... I'm disappointed about Android's fragmentation that's all. Me too am very interested to get the Atrix because of the Webtop even it's choppy. But man a locked down bootloader... that means... I have to wait for Motorola to update the Gingerbread maybe in 2012!

Ok...well that's cool. As long as Motorola isn't like Samsung.
Only lagginess I've encountered on the Atrix was from an LED control app (I believe it was Light Flow), and it was more than lag, it was freezing up my phone. So I uninstalled it. No big deal. None of the Motoblur widgets seemed to slow or lag anything.
Thumbs up to OP.
All the threads I have seen about returning thier phone are such a waste of space on this board.
If you want to point out issues that's fine but you dont need to start a thread for that.
I just find that most of the posts I have read completely lack objectivity and seem to be rooted in frustration.
Totally agree with the OP. So far I love my atrix, and have tweeked it quite a bit to suit my needs. I do wish I could customize a bit more, but its not that big of a deal. Granted I upgraded from a TP2 so I don't have too much to compare to =D
I'm highly upset that there is a locked bootloader; that is probably the only reason I took the phone back; I loves everything else about it.
I'm waiting for the Galaxy S 2 to see if that's worth the money; I know the specs are amazing and the developer community behind it is going to be great as well.
hope u all enjoy this read.
im going to post my experiences and thoughts with both phones.
not hating on either one, just a clear cut opinion.
I personally first came to android after the Evo came out, i was lucky to get one July 27th. I had the G1 for a couple weeks on Tmo (a long time ago) and i was not impressed.
before that i was a blackberry guy for the longest.
I switched from Tmo to sprint because tmos service went to crap. i drive for a living and i do about 200 miles a day. Tmos service would drop during the drive in the same exact spots where i knew i would lose service. 7 different places to be exact with crappy reception in between.
i figured id try sprint. anyways i stuck with them with a awesome phone the Evo 4g.
The Dev area for the evo is un-real, roms galore, kernel galore, everything is flashable and seems to be very easy to do.
A plus for the evo for sure.
With the right rom/kernel combo along with the seido 3500 battery, it was a incredible phone. Doing anything i needed it to when i needed it. Never having to worry about battery life.
i had no issues with the evo, but i did have to return it due to it overheating and shutting off until cooled (kernel issue and something i did im sure), i got it replaced and was happy as a clam.
As for samsung, i critized them and hated on them every chance i got.
the support for them always seemed to be crap and doing things on them seemed to be not as easy.
well some things happened id rather not discuss and i had to get rid of the evo, i found a Epic on craigslist(may 1st) and it was listed as a "galaxy pro" The guy didnt know what it was, but the pics showed it was a epic. i verified the ESN was clean and picked it up for $65.00!!
Couldn't pass that up at all, besides all that i needed another android, for a couple weeks i was using a beat up blackberry curve 8530 and seemed to be having withdraws lol.
Anyways i fell in love with the sammy as soon as i started playing with it. The screen is just poppy and incredible. it blows the evo screen away easy.
im not fond of slide out keyboards, but i figured with the screen being 4 inchs, id have no issue with adjusting from the evo and its 4.3 inch.
Touchwiz isnt all that bad either, i thought it would be worse, but its not bad at all. Can become adjusted to TWiz or Sense very quickly.
it fits well in my hand, but im too interested in the power button on the side, seems out of place. Really im used to the button up top along with the charger port on the bottom instead of the top, but love the little "door" on the charger port.
Dev area for the Epic is smaller, and a little more "intermediate" then the simple flash and go of the evo.
i miss the evo dev section, but have become used to the epic area and getting the hang of things quickly.
To be honest.
both phones are great, id be happy with either or. With the evo its all in the dev section, with the epic its all in the screen.
i wont be slamming samsung anymore because im just as happy as i was with the evo. i may go back to HTC for the ease of things after the evo 3d or something else comes out.
but im very comfortable with the epic and its a great choice in the android world right along side the evo.
the screen really is amazing. i like the camera better too. sometimes i wish i had a snapdragon phone just for roms, but this whole nexus S thing could change everything. sounds like a fair review to me. just flashed the ACS rom and its pretty damn good. will deffinitly tide me over till GB
I picked up an evo on launch day, broke it and jumped ship to the epic when it launched. While the evo had a better dev community imo, I still enjoy my epic. The screen is really what takes the cake. I could care less about the keyboard so next time I'm in the market for a phone I'm gonna sit back, observe the dev communtiy for a while when the new flagships launch and see what happens. I do love my epic but when it comes down to it, its all about development which I feel the epic lacks compared to the evo. The devs here are amazing, I just feel that things are much slower around here than the evo section. Still though this is a great phone. I've been running the ACS rom for a few days and its flawless. Not to mention I was able to get a day and a halfs worth of battery on it

I really like Touchwiz, I avoid roms that don't support it.
I first got my epic over the Evo because I knew the battery life was going to be much better. I'm not sure if it's really any different or not, I haven't used an Evo many times other than at work (I work with phones). I think the epic is better because of the AMOLED screen. Plain and simple, everything just looks better.

You know i forgot to say anything about the camera itself.
we all know the evo and HTC make ****ty camera drivers , constant complaint even though its a 8mp on the evo.
samsung on the other hand knows what they are doing in this regard.

i completely agree, same thing i was basically saying.
im running syndicate fully loaded myself.
having crappy battery but im trying to address all that as of right now.
My wife has an evo and I have the epic so I do have the luxury of flashing both. Yes the evo development section s is bigger buy there are so many roms they all copy each other. I like the roms hear as they all offer something unique. I also love the Amoled screen and the camera. The epic is faster in both cpu and gpu. They are both awesome phones I just prefer the epic. It is if u like to flash stuff to have an evo though. I can flash all day lol
Sent From My Evo Killer!!
This is what I like to see..a lot of people never give things a fair chance and go off baseless rumors....
For example:
1) Samsung does not support their phones:
This was kind samsungs fault as they promised an 2.0 update to the Behold and then never delivered..said it wasn't possible and only updated to 1.6...from then on everyone made the assumption that Samsung would NEVER update their phones...other manufacturers havent updated their phones either on plenty of occasions..sure its Samsungs fault for not delivering but you can't base everything on 1 occasion...Also a lot of people group "support" and "updating"...Samsung is know for its good support actually..
2) Touchwiz is the devil that lags up the phone and brings nothing
While all UIs add bloat..TouchWiz is not as bad as people make it out to be..most hate TouchWiz received was in the winmo days...and the old Touchwiz was junk..plus the new TouchWiz looks similar to the iphone in the app launcher thus mustering more hate...I wont say TouchWiz is the best UI..but its one of the cleanest UIs I've seen..
I find it Ironic how an HTC device has like 5 issues and people just go oh well..while if samsung has 1 issue people scream how Samsung sucks and they shouldnt have bought it...my only request is that people look at all manufacturers equally without bias and judge based on the overall product fairly..
So its not about who is better HTC or Samsung..its about who is it acceptable to buy from...and at this moment both HTC and Samsung are my options for buying...this gives me more choice...in the future I hope to add LG and maybe Motorola to my "acceptable" list if they meet my standards..and the more manufacturers that meet my standards the more "CHOICE" I have...I expect by the SGS 2 becoming mainstream the community will rival HTC devices in development..
What I really liked about the evo is that EVERYTHING Is flashable.
From radio updates,to pri, to anything you can think of.
You just download it and flash it, so simple.
Kernel support its also great.
thats what I miss most.
Not saying that the epic devs are bad, im loving avs.
But the evo area is def more popular.

can you reiterate? we can flash anything on the Epic as well...
But obviously they have a larger dev base due to:
1) Evo coming out first
2) People choosing HTC just because its HTC
3) Sprint spent their entire budget advertising the EVO while spent nothing to advertise the Epic until it won the pcworld #1 phone award..then they spent a little..
4) Nexus One giving a lot of grounds
5) Devs more used to how HTC does things
Well Odin has to be used for radios and stuff.
We cant simply flash a rom without checking what file system it is, things like that.
They are non existent on the evo.
Along with the whole rfs/ext system thing we don't need to worry about on the evo.

If you use cwm on the evo its basically the same as our epics, edify=cwm3 amend=cwm2. The bonus for the evo is amon RA which can go both ways. Just try flashing gb with cwm2 and well your in trouble.

Your joking right? I have only used odin once to flash the ec05 modem and I've flashed most of the eb13/ec05 roms, kernels, themes, ect. Actually I've flashed all eb13/ec05 kernels and have been on cm7 a1&a4. I avoid odin at all costs, but its always there just in case I goof. So far so good.
Ya. The epics screen is amazing. Im not buying no other device unless its amoled.

The Epic is my first Android phone and I picked it over the Evo for two main reasons.
1) Physical keyboard
I thought I needed a physical keyboard and it turns out I do and I don't. For email/sms Swype works great. However for things like working in the terminal the virtual keyboard just doesn't work for me.
2) The screen.
Don't have to say much here
Overall I've been very happy w/ my Epic. Still need to test out Syndicate but for now rooted w/ the screen rotation lag fix is good enough.
