just sold old mt3g via xda trade in service - Hero CDMA General

hey i just sold my old mt3g using xdas trade in service i have never used anything like this before and i was wondering how reliable the service is because ive seen horrible reviews for places like usell.com. i used gazelle.com becasuse they had a slightly lower offer for my device but it had a better rating and shipping. ive already filled out all the info and there supposed to be sending a box with free shipping as we speek so i was just wondering if any of yall used this before i ship off my phone.
this is the email they sent me.
Hi Riley,
Thanks for choosing Gazelle. Now that you've told us what you have, we're counting on you to send your HTC T-Mobile myTouch 3G.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Send your HTC T-Mobile myTouch 3G to us in the postage-paid box you'll be receiving from us. Depending on postal delivery time this can take up to 8 days. Please remember to use plenty of packing material to keep everything safe. Just pack and mail the package. That's it. You can find your closest USPS location here.
If you have your own box and want to send your HTC T-Mobile myTouch 3G right away, that's no problem. We've attached a prepaid shipping label for you to print out.
We'll email you as soon as we receive your HTC T-Mobile myTouch 3G to let you know it arrived safe and sound.
Does your phone have a SIM Card? If so, don't forget to remove it before sending it in. If your phone does not have a SIM Card, it's very important for you to cancel your service. If we receive your phone and it has an active account this will lower the value of your offer.
Remember, you can check the status of your item at any time.

---------- PACKING TIPS -----------
Keep those items safe!
When it comes to protective padding, make sure you take care with your fragile electronics. For large items like computers or displays, we recommend plenty of bubble wrap and a sturdy box.
For smaller items like phones and MP3 Players wrapping them up in newspaper works just as well as Styrofoam peanuts and is way better for the environment.
After you seal your box up, give it a quick shake and make sure nothing rattles.
To ensure a smooth and speedy journey through our receiving and inspection process, please include your Packing Slip in the box you send to us. For more helpful tips, check out our HELP section.

Would you have received more via Ebay or Web Forum? I'm not sure what the phone sells for used, but would imagine so. The transaction seemed to go smooth, which might be the incentive rather than dealing with other resources.

a couple sights i saw it go for 60$ but they had poor customer service reveiws and were unreliable and they would only give you prepaid gift cards.

sorry to bump my own thread again the check came today i am now 46$ richer and im on the way to the bank now!

Look under "Android Dev Phone 1". This IS an HTC Dream, and it ships with the engineering bootloader and a root-enabled system image. It also comes from a reputable source, AND Google is itself on-the-line for it.
Or you could always order the android dev phone from google/brightstar.

Technically Brightstar. I would actually be a little more worried about a return or repair with Brightstar as compared to T-Mobile, as T-Mo probably has the better repair infrastructure in place, given its volume.
By the way, for purchasers outside the United States, you should also consider the possibility that your country's customs office may levy an additional import tariff, because Brightstar will mark the package as a billed/sold good. IIRC i've read some anecdotal reports of this being as high as a few hundred bucks. Check with your customs office.
If you are planning on using it in the US AND you want to have 3G access, might as well just sign up with T-Mo for a new plan. Subsidized phone prices are under $100 now, I believe. Or if you look around you can find ways to get a 1-year contract. Alternately, you can probably also find G1s being unloaded on eBay in the coming weeks as some owners upgrade to the myTouch.
Just some thoughts.
No, NOT technically brightstar. Technically GOOGLE, since YOUR contract is with google. They've just contracted it off to brightstar, but they are still on the line.

Your contract may be with Google (or it may not be, I have no idea since I have not bought an ADP1) but when it comes down to the actual nitty gritty of return and rma work, it seems to be all Brightstar:

hi friends, any other link... coz i cannot find purchase option in none of your links. what i need is a unlocked g1 and i live in us. One more question, is the GPS in G1 is a real gps or will it work only with google maps?
The link I gave you is the correct one. It has instructions on it, you should go back and read it.
You will not get a G1 (which is a nonsense name given for a LOCKED tmobile branded HTC DREAM), you will get an ADP1 HTC Dream with engineering bootloader (and therefore can't be OS-locked) and free of simlocks.
You are required to register for a google developer's account ($25), from which you will be given an order link for the ADP1.

Buying an HD2 Telstra T9193 for $299! Is this real?

Hey so I have been searching for the best place to buy a HD2 T9193 so I can use it on AT&T US 3G network. Everywhere I look, there seems to a consensus of anywhere from $800-1000. Then I find this guy, who's hotmail email address is cherryda78, who is selling them for $299 plus shipping. After emailing him he says would be $30. Here are some of the ads he has up online.
**So apparently I cannot post links because I am a new user. I copied the links to a .txt and attached it to this post. How I do I go about getting verified btw?**
I emailed him and he responded the next day with this. Below is our email thread:
Mr. Cherry Da,
I am interested in purchasing the HTC HD2 phone you have listed here and here (these were links). I have been dreaming of this phone for about 4 months now, and to get it would be just amazing. I know you can unlock the radio and run it on US 3G with AT&T. I do have some questions though. You have the phone listed for $299 USD. Is that correct? It seems much lower than most other sites right now, so I am pleasantly surprised but cautiously skeptical. Could you please provide some more information for me? How come you are offering it at such a great price?
Thank you so much!
YES.

Seems very shady to me, but for $300, I almost want to take the gamble. My question is if anyone has bought a HD2 from this guy, or would buy. Also, what has everyone paid for your phone? And where did you get it?
Thanks!
Telstra doesn't even sell it that cheap... so fishy...
it is either fake or stolen.
Hahaha Western Union or Bank Transfer - so you have absolutely NO recourse when (not if) this transaction goes south.
"Commenwealth" of Australia? Really?
If you want to throw out $330, send it to me instead!
The same guy is selling the Supersonic for €236! Does HTC have a massive leak in their supplychain that they are totally unaware of?
Please don't send this guy your money. The price is huge red flag and the Western Union or bank transfer only is an even larger red flag. If you send this guy your money you'll never see it again and you'll never receive the phone. This is a scam.
Hmm, poor broken english + only accepts western union or bank wire transfer + rediculous low price = SCAM to me. If it sounds to good to be true.....
don't, just ..... don't
Of course it is a scam.
scam.... Run, run very far.
chinese copy, gotta be, put the phrase
HTC TOUCH HD2 T9193 LEO 3G Unlocked USD$299
into google and there are dozens of hits, dollars, euros, and in one the company info is a pda manufacturer in china.
HD2 9193 is the best phone
Telstra charges AU$829.00 outright or AU$80/month for 24 months (but the call rate of Telstra is extremely high).
so $329 is fake or scam
Don't even think about it.
I work for Telstra, and there is no way that anyone can sell a Telstra Branded HD2 for that price. As mentioned earlier, if you buy it outright from a Telstra Shop it costs over A$800. You may be able to find a slightly used one for around A$700 on eBay.
As someone else pointed out,
Commenwealth of Australia, that should of been your first giveaway.
I tell ya, I know you want the phone...We all do but, be careful.
Any one that will not take a credit card for a high dollar purchase
is someone you need to avoid.
Ebay is the best or Amazon. At least you can track your
order by purchase.
Buy it and give us some feedback
buy it,I pay you $350.
Don't do it! My brother did the same thing on a weight machine set that was for $400 n normally it goes for $1200 n he send a money order n never got the weight machine n he couldn't do anything about it. Its a scam!! Don't do it!!
Scam
This definitely sounds like a scam, it will either not arrive and you can say goodbye to your cash, or it will be a cheap imitation. I know someone who bought a iPhone (idiot!) through ebay and it turned out to be some other type of handset with an 'iPhone looking' case. Didn't even look like an iPhone next to a real one.... avoid!
Scam, scam... If you want to get one cheaper, look in XDA's own marketplace (I picked one up for £310, maybe $550)
Thanks everyone

Subject: Developers phone
I was wondering when you guys will be offering the nexus one for purchase for developers? I was just about to order two of these when you guys ran out/stopped selling.I am a developer and really want this phone,I noticed you said that you will be making them available to devs i was just wondering when.
This is my first post so i had to remove the links but this reply is 100% real!
?huh?
10char
So since the Nexus Ones will now be for "developers" will they have the special bootloader that can be re-Locked?
Just wondering
I wonder how much they're going to be charging, or if they'll sell accessories too!
I just hope they can drop the price tag a little bit. Even the later phones just came out are cheaper than N1.
Also, fix the wifi sleep bug. That's all what I want to ask for.
well... I bought a developer license and what they are selling this very moment is the "Android Developer Phone 2" which runs Android 1.6 has a 500something mhz cpu and like a 3.x" screen. Not very exciting.
I hope the august thing isn't this phone... on the other hand.. its cheaper and completely carrier independent.
Frankly, I'd see the Dev 3 will be HTC Vanguard, which has advanced 3G (3.75G) and slide-out keyboard.
If nothing else, I'd like to buy another Nexus One to get a special developer edition back cover.

Download spare parts and change the wifi sleep policy. That did the trick for me.

Shipping to Kuwait

I understand this is not exactly a Nexus S related query, but any help will be appreciated.
I'm not from the US ... live in Kuwait. I've asked a friend to get me the phone as I tried my best to get it ... proxy, bestbuy, paypal ... all of it gave me a lot of NOs.
As per the tracking no. my friend will be getting the phone tomorrow. I've asked him to use it for 2 days to check for the known problems (I've send him a list)
My query/ questions is:
He lives in Saratoga, CA (the phone was shipped from Palatine, IL (almost across). Now, once he has done his testing, I would like him to ship it to an Aramex mailbox I have got in Springfield Gardens, NY (yeah again, all the way back across the US). Can someone tell me which would be the cheapest, safest and yeah quickest way for it to be shipped from CA to New York?
I really don't want to trouble him and tell him to check out which is the cheapest, so if one of you'll know, I'd really appreciate guidance.
Thanks & Cheers

US Postal Service (aka the mail) is the cheapest shipping out there, especially across country.
Fed Ex and United Parcel Service can be a little quicker, but they charge a big premium for it.
If your friend does use Postal Service, tell him to buy the extra insurance coverage...it will be a small amount, and a waste of money in the end, but better to be safe than sorry if it's lost or damaged...
edit: PS, you can go online for any of the big three and check rates yourself, by the way...
Thanks distortedloop
Like you've advised, I'll ask him to go the postal service route with insurance.
Went to the usps.gov site, but could not figure out how things work so gave up on it. Will tell my friend to do it.
Thanks again.

Wow, good luck with that purchase. I'm definitely interested if you actually receive the real thing at that price--it seems too good to be true.

Oh, something else,.. the email address he is using was apparently made may 9th... BEWARE!
Hi
I saw this same listing and enquired. I received the exact same reply from Elise (no taxes etc) and I followed up with some questions because it all seemed too good to be true and I didn't think the 64GB was even available until after the 16GB had been out a while. She replied saying her business partner who is also her brother works for Samsung, hence the bulk buying they are able to do. When I asked about the closed listing (it ended during our E-mail correspondence) she said she had to close the listing because she was receiving too many requests. She did say it'd all go through eBay still, so that buyer and seller were both protected. I had to reply with details of what I wanted (pebble blue or marble white) plus my address INCLUDING MY EBAY USERNAME. She claimed this was to check my feedback but I think it's so they can generate a convincing spoof E-mail from eBay.
She said I'd receive an invoice from eBay soon and to let her know when I did.
Sounds very fishy! Her English is poor too.
I'll let you know what the eBay E-mail looks like.
Cheers all

Yes mate, I know how you feel. I got straight on to my credit card company this morning & told them to not pay out on this transaction, also contacted Paypal & they told me not to worry as even if the sale has gone through I can still get my money refunded from them. Just annoying, but I suppose its as they say, if the deal looks to good to be true it probably is. Still annoying though.
It's good to know PayPal will cover us in these situations. And it's also sickening to know there are so many ****s like this out there trying to rip people off.
Still no 'E-mail from eBay' to be seen though!
You're exactly right, I myself kept on thinking if it's too good to be true, it probably is, but when it revolves around a sweet piece of kit like the GSIII it's hard not to be intrigued!
And good work on the IP lookup Candanga!
