[Q] How do you install google apps on a custom rom? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I've been downloading some custom roms off of the chinese forums, but many of them don't have google apps. If I can't sync my contacts and calender to gmail, I won't use the rom.
I downloaded GAPPS, which is meant to go with Cyanogenmod. I flashed it through recovery, but it didn't work.
I'd really like to use some of these Chinese roms, like V7, but I have to have GAPPS.

When installing any ROM I'm fairly sure you do it in this order:
1. Backup
2. Wipe Data/Factory reset
3. Flash ROM
4. Manually mount /system
5. Flash GAPPS
6. Wipe Dalvik and Batterystats (optional)
7. Reboot
I have done it this way with the CM6 and CM7 ROMS and GAPPS works fine for me.

Yes need to mount /system manually before flashing, probably need to install GAPPS before first boot.
Some devs put the GAPPS for their ROM on the forum also. Like Genokolar. You can look at the ROM post for instructions.

Ok. How do you manually mount the system?

@simplistian: where he posts the gaps? i can only find something called gms! or thats it?

Yes it is GMS. Flash it after you flash the ROM before the first boot. No need to mount /system.

With a custom recovery. There is an option of mounting different partitions.

Simplistian, thanks. You've been a great help. I'm going to stick with the B136 for now, and it runs great, and handles high end games without any problems. Next time I flash, I'll probably go with genokolar's V7 like you recommended.

did you flash a cyanogenmod rom in the past? try wiping your ext partition, possibly even re-partition your sdcard, wipe system/data & cache than re flash the rom with or without gapps, (flash if it needs it) and see if that helps..

you flash percys kernel the same as you flash any zip
go into cwm
mount system
flash percys kernel zip
restart to recovery
you will get mount errors (dont worry)
format system data and cache
mount system data and cache
then flash the cm7 zip as already explained

and dont ask to crack apps to get paid versions or i'll report if this continues

[Q] how to get rid of TWRPv.2.6.3.0 and install cwm recovery

i have got a defy+ and i had several different roms on it. i want to go to cwm because i plan to go to quarxs cm11 and he tells you have to update recovery. at the moment i have cm10.2-20132010-NIGHTLY-mb526 ... playstore not working....i'm looking for a way to delete TWRP or clean all old stuff and start again new? what would you recommend? thanks. I prefer a german answer
A clean install from start may avoid issues.
About the playstore not working, you tried the latest TJKV minmal gapps? The play store is working fine with both CM10 and CM10.2 for me.
Obs.: Sorry, i don't speak german.
dankeschön thanks a lot....
i'd like to make a clean install too, but how to do that?
"wipe data/factory reset" in TWRP leaves some things like TWRP itselve and for example "Pictures/Screenshots"-folder
if I select "motorola stock recovery" in bootmenu (is it called like this in english?) it fails...loop
Clean install means wipe data, cache, dalvik and system. SD card can be wiped too, but it is not mandatory, and you will need to send the files to SD card again to flash if you do that.
About the TWRP, I'm not sure, but I think that if you install CWM it will overlap TWRP. I tried once to install TWRP in a Galaxy S3 with CWM, after install, CWM disappeard and only TWRP was left.

There is dual recovery available in the dev section.

play store is working too with new gapps
but i installed quarxs cm-11-20131110-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip before and it is working fine on my defy+
browser is not working very good, some options missing but everything I need is working good enough
:good:

Am I the only one for whom root doesn't work in CM11?

CM11 doesn't seem to have root. I've flashed the latest nightly and for whatever reason, it just doesn't want to work right. Can't delete installed apps, can't remount, or anything...I can't be the only one can I?

Probably, the problem is the app you're trying to use...

It's got to be a system thing, even adb won't remember when I authorize my computer....

Negative, stock kernel. Clean install...
My suggestion is to get the latest TWRP or CWM and factory reset, wipe system, and delvik cache. Then flash the rom again. It is possible you also have a corrupted download. Use an MD5 checker on the ZIP to make sure it isn't corrupted. If you don't want to start over you can also flash the auto root from chainfire from this link.
http://download.chainfire.eu/297/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-mako-occam-nexus4.zip
So I got around to it. Clean wipe, fresh from the start, install latest nightly of CM10, gapps, and no go. It says it's giving romtoolbox Pro permissions, but it can't delete anything. I authorize the computer to communicate through adb, and it forgets after a reboot...
The only thing is that I'm running Philz touch latest recovery...
Have you tried installing supersu? I found that a lot of apps have problems with the default super user.
I guess your /system doesn't have the right permissions. It's maybe set to read only.
IF not.. > Check your developer options and give root access to adb and apps

How do you install this?

Im trying to replace my ROM with [ROM]【5.0.1】Google Play Edition
I've read "INTL I9505 DEVICES SHOULD USE A CUSTOM GE KERNEL TO PREVENT RANDOM REBOOTS "
so I've downloaded Ktoonsez's kernel..
SO should I install the Rom first? then install the kernel?
and how do I install the DarkUi, StockMMS, and stockemail at the Optional download of this link? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
For the first question: install the ROM and let it boot. Then boot into recovery and flash the kernel. After the kernel wipe cache and dalvik cache.

so I must wipe kernel and dalvik first? then flash the kernel?
So you have an unbranded S4? You have the international S4 version, right? The JFLTEXX.
I have the same model and I flashed that rom (I'm using it right now), assuming you mean the rom from Danvdh, and I don't have any random reboots.
You get the option to install those apps when you flash the rom. It will start the Aroma installer and from there you can chose what you want to install.

Nope. I just flashed the rom.. That was all. No random reboots or anything.
Make sure you do a clean flash to avoid major issues.

Boot into recovery
Do a wipe (dalvik cache, cache and data)
Flash the rom zip you downloaded.
At this point the aroma installer should appear. From there select anything you want to install and do. And read the notes for each option carefully.

I've already did that yesterday, It didn't appeared
I'll try it again today
Then something is wrong. I installed the version previous to the 01-28-2015 version and I had the aroma installer. So, either they changed it or something is wrong.
