I had to get some information sprint store, so after I got it I started playing with phones. I ran an online speed test with an evo versus my nexus. With 4 g the htc handed me my ass.
My prl is 60679, you can see in the picture what the other phone is. the nexus on display has the same 1 also. I have grj06 and the display has 22. To make matters worse, side by side, the display gets 10db more signal than I do. Man I'm pissed! Does anyone have an answer for this?

Lots have this prl. I think its people with corporate discounts. It roams 3g unlike yours
Uncle Jimmy says hello

Or something else I was thinking, it could be if the phone is ever stolen, that the tower nearest the store is the only one it will work on. Next time I go to a different sprint store, I should check the phone and see if it is the same number

I've had PRL 01115 since 4/21/11 on my phone. Try Speakeasy speedtest you'll be a lot happier with the results!

I have the same PRL. So what does this mean?

I have never seen 01115 on any smartphone I've had. You on sprint? What part of the country are you? I'm s.e. The mysterious and allusive prl. Funny I've never read about that one in the evo section and there's lots of activity there.

I'm on Sprint in the Minneapolis area.

This prl is not entirely new although it is the most current, along with 60679. While on 60677, some got 01115 and others got 60678. From what i have heard, 01115 connects to 3g while roaming. 606** series does not
Uncle Jimmy says hello

Yes 01115 is for those of you who have corporate discounts.

So what does this mean for my connectivity other than that my phone will connect to 3g while roaming?

Details on Sprint PRL's 60678 and 1115 by darkfire79 04:23 PM 04/29/2011 -- [Reply]
Here are the details copied from the XDA forum. hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056648
Here is the lehman terms about the PRL's. People who are on individual accounts will be receiving PRL 60678. It will not have 3G Data Roaming enabled.
Business and corperate accounts will be receiving custom PRL 1115, which does enable 3G Data Roaming in the six states listed below.
For all the details please read the attached files. You didn't get these from me
National & Custom PRLs Available for FL, MI, OH, WVA, & WI
Sprint has released Custom PRL 1115 and National PRL ending xxx78 that will impact subscribers who roam in these states.
Custom EVDO PRL 1115 – Provides Business IL and CL subscribers with continued 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming services.
Consumer accounts in these states will experience a loss of 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming services. Refer to PRL Newsflash (xxx78).
Delivery of this Custom PRL is dependent on eligible Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Phones/PDAs and Mobile Broadband devices.
Devices not eligible to receive the Custom PRL will receive the National PRL and won’t have 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming in these areas.
National PRLs (10078/50578, 20278/60678 and 60778) - Removes 3G/Mobile Broadband roaming coverage for all consumer accounts with push capable phones/PDAs and Mobile Broadband devices.
This coverage was previously enabled with PRL xxx77 and is now being removed since it didn’t provide the expected on-network capacity relief.
In an effort to strike the right balance between customer experience and roaming cost of service, the 3G roaming coverage will no longer be available for consumers but available to Business customers via Custom PRL 1115.
Consumers receiving these National PRLs will still have 1xRTT data roaming service available in the impacted states.
Sprint will begin proactively pushing the PRL to subscribers with in these locations first, then to the entire base. Subscribers with Mobile Broadband devices have to accept the PRL update prompt via SMARTview to receive this release.

Hmm interesting, I have the 01115 and I'm on a family plan.

switched from Evo to Nexus S 4G, had 1115 on my evo and originally had 60xxx number on my nexus s 4g, just checked and I'm on 1115...I have a corporate discount

Hmm, learn something new

My mother has a Samsung Transform and we're on the same plan. She has a 60xxx PRL. Did I just debunk the corporate discount idea?

My Little PRL Project

So with all of the PRLs floating aroundhere, especially lately, I wanted to do a bit of a project and see which one would be best for me. Here are my findings so far:
Test 1:
PRL: 60664
Download: 121.7kB/s
Upload: 83.2kB/s
Ping: 290ms
Test 2:
PRL: 01337
Download: 4kB/s
Upload: 20.2kB/s
Ping: +999ms
Test 3:
PRL: 31337
Download: 14.9kB/s
Upload: 20.9kB/s
Ping: +999ms
Test 4:
PRL: 60664 (again)
Download: 150kB/s
Upload: 87.3kB/s
Ping: 185ms
Test 5:
PRL: 60663
Download: 139.3kB/s
Upload: 73.2kB/s
Ping: 303ms
More results to come.
Info: My location is 90 miles North of Columbus, Ohio in a rural area. Sprint coverage is great here, but the internet ping time leaves something to be desired, so I am doing this project due to that.
Note: If you live within a few miles of me, then you should base your PRL choice off my data. Someone from Cali or Florida may have impressive results from PRL 01337, but that one was the absolute worst for me. Let this test be a guide for you to realize different PRLs give you different speeds.
These are my findings, and I do not believe ROM plays a factor. I also don't personally think PRI plays a factor here, since I am playing with PRL only. Radios can play a factor, and I have yet to find me a good one. Sick of the 5+ minute boot times with Fresh, reverting back to a clean install orf RegawMOD 2.1t.
Here in Austin, TX.
I actually get the best speed from Sprint's 60665 PRL. I tired VZW 01337, 31337 and 40064 and the best was Sprint. Go figure.
So Big Red obviously has more towers than Sprint, but I swear Sprints speeds are faster than VZWs. I used to tether on my BB Storm - and tether legitamatly for 29 extra a month - And only got maximum of 600kb down and 70 up. Not to mention when I was up in Canada they wouldn't let me use data at all! And Rogers and Verizon are like the same freakin company, you figure they would have a deal of some kind, but nope 1x the entire week I was there. Thought I was going to have EVDO withdraws.
01337 and 31337? hehe someone at VZ is a dork.
Project on hold due to not being able access ##775# with RegawMOD2.1t
OP updated with a new test
I'm in central kansas where alltel, now verizon, has always dominated the market. I tried both 01337 and 31337 prl's and found the original 606xx work better.

So will those Verizon PRL's give me Verizon coverage then? Where I live, Sprint has the weakest signal out of Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
those verizon prls that supposedly give u better signal blah blah is a joke... Sprint's 60065 prl blew those others outta the water hands down.

Only if you live in an area with poor sprint coverage and good verizon coverage they do work well.

Yes, you would connect to VZW towers. and *2 would go to VZW Customer Service.
This is possible without crazy roaming charges is that before Alltel was consumed by VZW, they had an agreement with Sprint about sharing tower coverage or something.

Its a small world after all..... how ya been?
Not sure this will be the same as OKC but I saw in the sprint forums OKC was scheduled first of 2011, but Best Buy says it probably be this fall and in some places in Oklahoma 4g is being tested... i would take that with a grain of salt though.
I've heard that they are setting up the infrastructure and testing it. I'd imagine it would be sometime 2011. Again, just hearsay though.
I used to work at the sprint call center in okc that has 4g tech support (i know y have 4g tech in a place that has no 4g) they told us okc will get it in the spring where the call center is on nw expressway and council there is a 4g tower next in but they won't turn it on

As far as Tulsa goes, I turned on 4g yesterday on my epic and was able to pick up a weak signal around 7st and memorial. I guess Sprint is in the testing phase right now
I connected at 71st and Mingo. It took some scanning but I finally connected with 2 bars.
Do you think maybe the store at 71 across from the QT between Memorial and Mingo may have a small 4G tower to show it off, and you are picking that up? Or do you think they have actually started turning it on in Tulsa.
No, I called my buddy at that store and asked if 4g was officially here, he said no but it is in testing phase. I also asked of they have a 4g airave installed and he said that they did not. So welcome to beta wimax in tulsa.

Well I'm at 71 a Yale, but on a CM 6.2 with no 4g. I guess I will try out the the 4G version of it tonight.
Will post later on what I get at 71 and Yale.
My Sprint store said that Fort Smith Arkansas would see it around the end of 2011. We are way smaller than Tulsa so I would say before then?

Sprint 4g in Tulsa
There is a Sprint 4g tower on in downtown Tulsa. Signal is weak but the speed is great. Can't wait for more towers to be activated.
I connected to 4G in Stillwater tonight so it has to be real soon
Pics or it didnt happen? I got some screenies,
I was sitting at Haruno Sushi Bar at a booth inside by the Sushi Bar. On a side note they have the best Sushi in town
I was fluxing between 0-2 bars.

Speed Test.
4G is soo FAIL
LOL about 1/8th of what I've gotten on Tmobile in the same areas on my Nexus One. But I'd still rather have Sprint because Tmobile bounces between Edge, 1G, 3G, and HSPA nonstop, without your phone ever moving. Nothing like waiting for HSPA to kick in while your waiting for a simple weather widget to refresh. I'll be curious to see what Sprint does when its finally rolled out here but I am not hopeful it will be anykind of useful. At least with Sprint I can turn the nonsense off and they are a little faster than Cricket.

You got 25mb download speed on a 3g phone?

What company is better tmobile, att ,sprint or veraizon

What company is better in date and had major coverage and 4g????
it depends.. where you live and who has a better coverage. They all have pros and cons... hard to cover in one tread.
I'd sum it up to
T-mobile, best customer service and good 4g but small service area.
Sprint, Terrible customer service, decent 4g, medium service area
Verizon, Fair customer service, Networks huge, not sure if 4g/LTE is out yet (I dont pay attention to them).
ATT, Meh customer service, they're very business oriented and not too good about actually listening to your problems but efficient enough, 4g is coming or may be out I know its sometime soon either way, Network is only bested by Verizon.
sprint has a nice 69.99 everything plan
Oh
I live south of california just wanna know wat company had the best speed on internet
Verizon has a Nazi stranglehold on where I live, so...
Heil Big Red.
Verizon for orange county for me atleast.

Sounds like it's nailed!
Even though regions of the country dramatically impact a carrier's strength (probably because of the local carrier the big ones acquired), in my mind z33dev33l has it nailed.
I have been VERY happy with T-Mobile (price, customer service, quality of connection in my area), but they need to widen their 4G (and even 3G) coverages without getting greedy and without relaxing on their terrific customer service.
Everybody I know with Sprint and most people I know with ATT complain about them, and Verizon is a royal pain if you are trying to call from inside an office building. Around my office, there are two distinct groups huddled outside: the smokers and the Verizon customers. OK, so the Verizon customers stay inside next to the windows during bad weather, but you know what I mean. My boss, a Verizon customer, makes me take my phone with us to lunch in the cafeteria because he can't make a reliable call, but I can.

Don't forget to add $10 extra for 4g and now for what they call premium 3g!
I like T-Mobile, just wish they would grow the network faster.
At&t for now!!!
i think - currently at&t is the best choose
Kotake
T-Mobile for customer service & price, coverage limited if you're in a rural area
Around where I live (Dallas, TX), T-Mobile rocks all the other providers when it comes to 3G speeds. I get constant full bars (no matter where I am), and I've done speed tests with my 2 of my friends who conveniently have Verizon, and AT&T.
Verizon Speedtest - 1.33 down, .28 up on an iPhone.
AT&T Speedtest - 1.26 down, .55 up on an iPhone.
T-Mobile Speedtest - 4.5 down, 2.2 up on a Samsung Vibrant.
Now I don't know if it's hardware related or something with Android owning iOS, but T-Mobile had really improved speedtests.
Best part is, T-Mobile doesn't charge roaming, so I can go where-ever the **** I want, and not get charged for calling, using data, or anything.
Tmo is the most open source, supportive of modding efforts and has their own github than any of them. and they go with vanilla android and defer to google rather than try to meddle with the software (more than the other three)
Well which ever carrier you choose don't choose At&t. One of their towers that provides data coverage to the little Italy section of the Bronx has been broken since 2/1/11 and despite numerous calls from my self and undoubtedly many others they have yet to fix it.
I've had sprint in the past but they don't work at my office either so i'll be giving Tmobile a try.
I agree at&t full digital.. talk and net at the same time... spend time in Socal and Nocal
I've had AT&T and Verizon and my boss has had Sprint and Verizon, we both agree that you get the best bang with Verizon. Of course, it tends to be more expensive.

Copy the PRL file to the root of your microSD card
Dial ##775# on the handset and enter the MSL code when prompted for password
Tap on Update PRL
If it read your microSD card correctly your PRL file should be listed in the bottom half of the screen to select
Select your PRL and click OK
Press the MENU button and tap on Commit Modifications (which will reboot the phone)

Glad to see all the prl's in one place. I gave been trying different prl's you and bierce have posted over the last few months. I'm currently on 01337. This prl gives me the best all around signal Dayton, Ohio. But the funny thing is where I use to get zero reception I get great reception but now all the spots I got the best reception I only get mediocre reception. So it's kind of a trade off. But i wish I could get great reception in most places and mediocre where I use to get no reception.

muahahahahahahaha sorry kyouko i couldnt resist lol.
@rb3 you have a better signal because that prl uses verizon towers by default so if sprint is poor in your area then verizon prls will work mutch better.
I understand what you're saying. But I'm getting spotty reception in areas like highways and near towers where I know friends with verizon also gets great signal which is why I'm puzzled. But the pub I always goto ill get my best speeds and I know sprint gets no reception but verizon does so it's the price I'm willing to pay to get data while drinking lol.
that prl is also ancient witch could explain it verizon could have built new towers since then try the 52299 one i fly of that one its a hit and miss with them though so youll just have to go through them until you find one that works the best.
ive spent the last 4months testing random prls and radio combinations its become a bit of an obsession lol
Yea i have tried running that one with both verizon and sprint radios and while better than sprint's prl it still gives me spotty reception in areas I know it shouldn't.
Yea ever since I ran across your prl threads a few months ago I have probably changed prl's 30 times lol. Definitely a fun obsession to have.
One problem i've ran into a few times is after I flash a new prl and reset my data profile data will never engage and the hands free activation step never works because there is no data to update the profile. This led to me having to run a ruu one time because I couldn't get data to turn on no matter what I tried. Just wandering if you ever experienced this in your adventures?
yea i stay away from doin data resotores unless im on a sprint prl because verizon prls it dosnt want to update my data profile sometimes. but most of the time if i power of my phone and take the battery out a couple times itll work.
if there any new people looking at this feel free to ask questions switching between different carrier prls can somtimes quadruple your data speeds its all just trial and error.

Loaded it up last night right before I fell asleep. I ran a few speed tests at my house and they were a little bit better than the original prl. I will continue to test at work today where I have had issues as well and report back. Thanks again for modding it for me.
@Bierce where do you pull those speedtest screen shots? I use the app from the market. Or are you getting those from tethering?
i use tether and do it from my computers browser thats why my locations are so random
and thats why i do this lol. i would be lucky to get 400kbp/s 4months ago
I have flashed a few PRLs (as beirce has been posting them) and none of the seem to make much of a difference. For the most part I am getting 200-400 Kbits/s.
Maybe no hope in San Antonio.

This map describing direct connect service seems to imply that future roaming coverage will be EVDO after network vision. So, no more fighting Sprint for the 111x PRLs any more.
Huh? I don't see the connection between Direct Connect and univeral roaming. All I see is that Sprint is transitioning Direct Connect (push to talk) from the old Nextel Frequencies to the Sprint frequencies as part of Network Vision. What am I missing here?

They have no plans to open the floodgates of complete 3g roaming to everyone. They want you to hate to use data while roaming for a reason.

As I read that underlined passage, they are speaking of the ability use Direct-connect while roaming and stating that the shaded areas of the map include roaming and non-EvDo areas. I still don't see anything about providing full 3G while roaming.

I hypothesize that direct connect requires EV-DO for a couple of reasons.
First, Sprint's current direct connect map only includes areas served by native Sprint EV-DO. Areas with native 1xRTT Sprint coverage are excluded from direct connect coverage. I suspect Alltel EV-DO roaming areas can support direct connect however Sprint is looking to win more favorable roaming agreements before they allow that.
The second clue is the direct connect apps that were referred to at the Network Vision Strategy update in October. If any android phone can use direct connect through an app, an IP-based implementation would make the most sense.

It was stated before that the new direct connect phones would even work when 1x roaming.
