[Q] How to change from W7 to Android - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi everyon
I own a HTC HD2 which I upgraded to W7, and its pretty awesome, but the fact that I can't activate the App Market and not recieve mms with my carrier its kinda bad to me. So I want to switch to Android, but I have a few question first.
I would be able to use the app market? What are the features that I won't be able to use?
Do I need to go back to the original software and then to Android?
Thankss!

you can simply move to android as following :
- download the HD2 NAND Toolkit from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
then :
1- task 29
2 - install magldr
3 - choose usb flash from magldr and install CWM recovery from the repartitioning option in the program
4 - open recovery from magldr from ad recvery choice
5 - copy ur android rom to ur memory card
6 - choose install zip from sd card from recovery and choose ur rom

you actually have to take out the sd card out insert it into a reader and do a fat32 format in order to remove ALL wp7 files...you just cant wipe ad install android will not work after that you cant do as mido stated in the previous post with the wipe mangldr and all that

Just installed Froyostone's ROM (WOW) - New to Android questions

OK, I just installed the latest Froyostone android and WOW ! This is quite incredible, it's a fully functional Android on my HD2 ! Runs even faster than WM !
I didn't find any bugs yet...
Few questions..
1. Does this run from the SD ? Or did it install to the main device ROM when I first launched it ?
2. What does that mean in terms of rooting, getting in recovery, etc ? Do I need to "root" it ? How do I get in Recovery to type all sorts of commands that I see on guides ?
3. From what I can see, appstore apps install to the root SD card - That can get messy.. any way around it ?
4. Is EVERYTHING related to Android on my HD2 inside the "Android" folder in the SD card ?
5. Top 5 apps to install for a fresh Droid HD2 ?
6. Any other useful words for a beginner ?
7. Is it safe to charge in Android ?
8. I always have to boot WM first to launch Android right ?
THANKS
Read the stickies they contain all the information you have just asked
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Promise to look around in the 80 pages of that thread (Someone should make a FAQ out of it)
But if anyone have a couple minutes for me I would really appreciate it !
Thanks for looking !
EDIT - OHHHH the sticky on the DEV forum !!! I gotcha, Will get to it now thanks !!
1. Does this run from the SD ? Or did it install to the main device ROM when I first launched it ? Runs from SD
2. What does that mean in terms of rooting, getting in recovery, etc ? Do I need to "root" it ? How do I get in Recovery to type all sorts of commands that I see on guides ? not sure what you mean
3. From what I can see, appstore apps install to the root SD card - That can get messy.. any way around it ? nope, but I always make a backup of my SD card, you get used to seeing all kinds of folders, but you can still run your WM and android with the same SD card no problem, just make sure before adding a new Android build, start with a fresh formatted SD, then install android, then drag and drop all your other files back onto the SD card.
4. Is EVERYTHING related to Android on my HD2 inside the "Android" folder in the SD card ? Nope will be all over the place
5. Top 5 apps to install for a fresh Droid HD2 ? Setcpu, angry birds demo, Laputa reader, radiotimeplayer, Swype keyboard
6. Any other useful words for a beginner ? play about, enjoy the marketplace, its not 100% perfect yet, but getting there.
7. Is it safe to charge in Android ? yep
8. I always have to boot WM first to launch Android right ?yep, but android is so stable you dont have to do this much YEP
THANK you for your time !!
Re #2 - I mean in some Android tutorials I see you can input command lines etc, to change system settings, while in "recovery mode"
How do I get to " android recovery mode" with the HD2 ? No biggie though.
Re #3, Do you just Backup your stuff (Music, books, etc) and then, before installing new Android, do you just format and put the new Android folder on there ? You totally discard the application folders and start clean ?
I see there is a way to backup some of the settings in the sticky, so I will read it.
SetCPU I assume is to lock the Leo on it's max speed, like LeoCPUSpeed for WM- Nice.
Thank you very much again lad !

#2 the ROMs are already rooted, all you need is a terminal emulator from the market.
Nice, thanks !
I am trying to install a pre-made script (exe), it should install some stuff automatically (lang, keyboard etc) and the guy who made it says you must run it in recovery mode for it to work.
How do I use the script on my HD2 ?
Thanks ! I'm lovin' android so far.

[Q] Random questions about Android on HD2

Hi. i bought an htc hd2, but i did not like windows, so my brother installed android on it. i belive it is MDJ evo ROM, but i dont know what radio i am using.
-anyway, i noticed android is using about 70% of my battery, is this normal? (my older android phone used like 10%) does changing rom help?
1. If i want to change my rom, all i have to do is replace my old one on the SD card?
2. If i backup using titanium, how do i get the restore-file on my new rom?
3. a friend of mine is buying hd2. do he need to flash hes phone to be able to install android? ive read a "definitive guide to android" here on the forum, but from a "new user" standpoint its kinda hard to understand.
So it is:-flash phone, -install rado, -drag/drop android on sd card?

1: Yes, Android is contained in it's own folder on the SD Card, if there's nothing else you wish to carry over to the other build, format the card and put the new build on, then boot in the usual way.
2: titanium backup creates a folder called rather unsurprisingly "TitaniumBackup" on the root of the SD card, copy that over to the new build, install Titanium and select restore and it will give you a list of options to reinstall. Google for the wiki on the program and it goes into a lot more detail about how to do all the steps.
3: Yes, pretty much. Although some users will tell you that you'll need a newer SPL version, so long as you're using the latest stock winmo rom the spl is not needed and radio also get's updated along with it, then it's just a case of booting android.

Thanks for the great reply =)
what is HARET? i have a dual boot option on my hd2, is this buildt in the rom itself?

HaRet is the hardware emulation invoker for Android to boot. ClrCAD is the audio part of android as well, you need to boot clrcad, then haret on all builds else you'll get no audio.
Lots of roms now have dual boot options, they are just an automatic clrcard/haret loader and some come built into roms, yes. Else they are just a cab file you can install yourself.

[Q] I want to install Android on my HTC HD2 Leo!?

Does anyone want help me or tell me how can i install on My HTC HD2 Leo Android system.
How can i start to install Android on HD2.

Read the millions of guides on how to do this. Also, for anyone to help you you would need to specify what exactly you want to do. Don't be lazy, just use the search button and if you still don't understand, then ask.

Is this because you don't have an SD card? I don't see any point in attempting to run NAND Android without an SD card to be honest.
If this is the case I would advise you to buy one. Without one you will have barely any space for apps and stuff, and you may as well stick to windows if you aren't going to use any apps on android.
Nigeldg , i have one 8GB on the phone!
i'm reading some experience from members here , and i'm see some bugs reporting from members , for that then i'm afraid if i get any error during install OS android on Leo HD2.
Sure , i'm asking here before trying to work on HD2.
Anyway thank's for reply.
Don't be scared...
When you will begin installing android for the HD2 you will first install a bootloader-program (MAGLDR) that manages everyting for your phone. After that you will install the actual rom from your sd-card with a program inside your bootloader-program (Clockworkmod). If this failes in any way you still have the bootloader-program installed which you can use to try install a different rom.
In case everyting fails you can always start your phone in the real bootloader (vol-down + power on) and install the original windows mobile 6.5 rom with USB to go back to the original situation. (keep in mind you still have a hacked HSPL then)
The reason why you'd want to install roms from your sd is that all the best roms right now are only available in zip-packages which need to be installed from your sd. Just follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948 (or take a look at the video)

[Q] My Android OS is not fucntioning.

I am running on MIUI Android 2.3.9 and it is a mess, it kept popping up error messages "Google framework" and i dont have any google services, such as Play Store, Gmail, and i cant receive SMS, and my bluetooth also not functioning, and cannot delete anything from the SD card from the phone, i have to take out the SD card and plug it in into a computer just to delete music, video and pictures.
Was hoping to change for a new OS, but the problem is my usb port is also not functioning. I even have to charge my battery using a third party charger.
Is there anyway i could change my OS with using the usb port. Can i use the SD card instead to do all the works.
And if can, what OS should i get and how.
Dear good Sir, PLEASE HELP, im a complete NOOB. I know nothing about phones and how to mod it. The one who helped my change my phone from Windows to Android is a phone shop, that now doesnt do it anymore.
Search for clk 1.5 This can be installed from the sdcard and will also Install a version of recovery. From the clk menu you can partition your nand to the required size for your chosen ROM. Read carefully and you will be fine.

If you mean change ROM, then you can do what Shanman posted. If you mean actually change OS from android to Windows Mobile 6.5 (a stock ROM), you'll have to flash a LEOIMG.nbh in the boot loader (Google how to do this). If you want to flash Windows Phone then I'm afraid I don't think there's any way to do that.

[Q] Frustrated NOOB needs a little help installing rom

After several days struggle, I'm burned out. Some of the threads here have 100+ pages, and searches yield too much outdated, irrelevant info. So, I'm asking for some direction (as simple as possible, please).
I'm trying to set up my unlocked HD2 (originally T-Mo, but unlocked and using AT&T) for dual-boot, WM6.5 and Android. As you know, the choices for android rom are mind-boggling. I don't need anything fancy, just something up-to-date and stable. I would like, however, something LOUD.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Using despy1989's March 2010 guide (four years old already!), I have my HD2 booting up asking to choose Android or WM. If I choose Android, it does nothing, and defaults to WM.
I have SUNDAWG-CM7-NATIVESD rom loaded (or I think I do) in the android directory of the SD card. I'm not sure this one will meet my LOUD requirement, but since it won't load, I can't tell.
If I tap the new Android icon, it does nothing. If I tap the Android SoftReset icon, it resets but does not load Android, goes to WinMo.
If I go to File Explorer, and run haret, I get the message "failed to load file \storagecard\android\sdcard\nativesd\zimage"
What do I do next?
ANY help is much appreciated.
How did you installed Android as NativeSD? Did you made a partition on your SD in EXT4 which is needed for installing the Rom? Why you want keep WM 6.5 anyway?

AFAIK, yes it is installed as NativeSD, Did not make a partition (there was conflicting advice as to whether it was necessary. I'm not ready to go "all in" and reformat my old SD card yet.)
Want to keep WM6.5 since it is the only one that works the way I need. I've been playing with a Sony X10a with Android 1.6 and am frustrated. I specifically need LOUDNESS and customizable ringtones and notifications, and relatively easy syncing with my PC.
Thanks for your reply and any further advice.
If you do not make a partition EXT4 it will never be installed so you just messing around that is why is not working. From WM6.5 can be run only SD Android version or there is another way, much longer but it's the way how it have to be.
Install MAGLRD and Recovery, probably this will wipe the phone, make the partition on SD to Install NativeSD, Install the Rom as Native SD. Then flash back the Stock WM6.5, this will wipe MAGLRD and Recovery. Now start again Android from the folder created from the installation. It should boot.

Sorry. As a NOOB, what you've suggested is Greek to me and far too complicated. I can't risking wiping the phone and bricking it.

I did this 100 times and HD2 is not that easy to brick, I never heard about bricked HD2 before. Then if you don't want to do it you will never have NativeSD on your phone because the NativeSD have to be installed on EXT4 partition, there is no other way. The only Android which you can use is from this section HERE. Put it on SD with other stuff and run with the application from WM6.5. First boot is very long.

No, wipe (task29) won't even touch SPL parts.
So, unless you're super duper unlucky using wipe command, you won't bricking your device.
I don't know if you're already flash HSPL.
I suggest you to flash HSPL first, then the rest is up to you..

If you really can't do this I can assist you via Team Viewer, I will tell you what to do and what to download. Before that I have to see your bootloader. Send me a PM to arrange an appointament. I don't know nobody in USA at the moment or I don't know they are.

Been trying to follow your steps, but when I get to "Native SD Install Recovery", the links are broken. (this is the very kind of frustrations I'm having - there does not appear to be one single step-by-step guide without numerous links to invalid or outdated sites. I don't need advertising either.)
I can't find the 4EXT partition (in W8.1) in order to install anything.
So, now what?
