I just played with a Galaxy with 2.2 Froyo. And I can honestly say I see absolutely no performance upgrade. Yes flash is there and a few added features we all no about in froyo. But nothing noticeable! There was still lag on the lock screen and animations. Market was better, browser seemed the same when I tested speed against my fascinate. Except flash.
Was I getting excited for nothing? Any

froyo update = when major development starts

not only is that right about development, but any froyo that you have played with that is out right now isnt final. supposedly samsung pulled it to make major optimizations and put their phones up to par with all the other froyo phones. we will not actually know how it runs on the fascinate to we get a build that is specific to the fascinate. Im still holding out a little hope, however ive never seen any lockscreen lag to begin with so dont know what thats all about.and once i put adw or LP as my launcher i really dont see any lag. it sticks for a second every once in a while but i never see the jitteryness that i had on my droid x, that she now has with froyo that is not one bit faster than my fascinate. i dont know about everyone else but im ready for that nice big LTE LG phone that we all saw on engadget and every other news site. that would be nice
If you don't know what Froyo adds, you don't know what you're playing with.

I know I've heard this stated wrong a couple places. A major release is 1.x to 2.x and a minor release is x.1 to x.2 so the froyo update is a minor release. Most of the features are under the hood improvements. I've seen froyo on the evo and most of my friends didn'tnotice a difference.

Perhaps you should read the op, and reread my response. The V8 browser boost, JIT, and memory management upgrades are very apparent to someone who knows what they're looking at regarding performance.

Please. If you need to be told about performance to notice it, then its a placebo. Maybe you should re-read. The op never said they didn't know what froyo adds, as you insinuate. They said they didn't see a performance increase. Two very different things. Coming from Froyo on two different phones....a lot of these performance increases are situational, and not translating into overall performance increases.
Plus how can you say the op is wrong about galaxy s froyo if he had tried it and you have not? Samsung has a track record for screwing **** up.

Well, okay. Since you said please. Lol.
There's a notable performance difference is my point. Having played with quite a few 2.1 and 2.2 roms on my Nexus, it is night and day. Heavy apps and games load quicker and run smoother. Hard multitasking doesn't cause any drag. The browser is twice as fast running side by sides.
Ill speak more plainly then, so perhaps you can catch on to my point.
My mother in law plays farmville and checks email. If I upgrade her 1.8 ghz P4 with a gig of ram to a quad core 2.6 ghz and 6gb gaming memory, she really isn't going to see much of a performance difference in farmville and hotmail.
However, when I run photoshop, play with video editing, or crank up Fallout3, it will be very evident.
JIT is not a placebo. Nor is the V8 browser, or the kernel based memory management improvements that 2.2 brings.
So again, if you do not see the performance enhancements, then you do not know what you are looking for.
This is a statement, not an opinion.
As for samsung screwing it up, it is possible, though I won't care a whit as soon as I can get into either a clean AOSP froyo rom, or a CM port.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've used a Nexus One before and after Froyo. We use the phone as a "computer" for research purposes. The performance upgrade may not be readily apparent to the average user but JIT really boosts performance for computations. Froyo also adds some API's that developers can use to boost performance.
From what I read the J.I.T COMPILER doesn't do much for the humming bird processor and gpu.....it improves performance much more on SNAPDRAGON Processors.
Even with flash turned off I've seen videos of the iphone loading SOME webpages faster than the nexus one with 2.2.... that irks me cause I hate APPLE

Awesome.
Okay, I am wide open. Please explain technically, or point to a source that explains how the snapdragon works better than the hummingbird with a virtual engine. JIT impacts the Dalvik VM, so you have lost me here. This is a sincere question.

Is Gingerbread that Important. I am reading on many sites that the update is pegged for April end. As far as I know I don't think these will be major change with this update.. pls let me know if I am wrong. Is this update that Important
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Not really.
There are some "nice to haves" in gingerbread - and it gives HTC a chance to fix the bugs in the updates they've pushed out (such as the hella annoying SMS issue).
I'm running a GB ROM now and I am much happier with it than the Froyo ROMs - even if it is a leak.
My SonyEricsson LiveView works much, much better in Gingerbread than it did in Froyo. No more SMS issues either.
I just wish that someone was clever enough to hack CIFS support into the kernel as that's really the only thing I miss about Froyo - but I guess with a leaked ROM that's a bit tough!
I think the new htc sense 3d is really cool . I am not at all excited for gingerbread or any beyond update as I see no real changes... I am missing the apple app store big time and will switch back to iPhone if the app market don't improve on google. I like android handset but its slows down because of buggy software

If you think system is slowing down, try some no-Sense rom like CM7....its all about having options and setting up system to your liking....
I'm more interested in the multitouch typing. Hopefully it will keep up with me then.

Might be good news:
I found out through LogCat that the problem might lie within the PowerVR SGX540. Which is in fact the same GPU as the Galaxy Nexus, in which Rockstar states will fix soon. So yeah, it should work, just wait a bit for an update.

Adreno isn't the best at games.

V1.1 is "working" on SGT7.
I had to get it illegaly even if I own it on my Galaxy S II, I was unable to find it on the market from my SGT7.
I have test version 1.1 on My tab running ICS Alpha 3..and its work...^_^
Here the screenshot :
sweet!
Looks nice on ICS
Where do you get 1.1?
I got 1.0 via 4shared - I'm not unwilling, but hesitant rather, to spend $5 on an app that's currently known to be not working, and version unknown for the one on the market (if it appears for the Sprint 7 tab).
Very willing if it works, that's a cheap price for a big game. Anywhere to "try before I buy?" Usually that's an option with most games, sample or ad-supported version, etc.
thanks-
EDIT: Note I'm not running ICS, I'm not rooted, although that is in the cards at some not-far-future point. I just got this tab yesterday. Is your build a requirement? Looking to try this out on the stock Gingerbread - if it works, I'm glad to buy it for the cost of a Subway footlong.
It does work, many have confirmed it working. Just a bit laggy. So hopefully you can spare $5 to support development

Just wondering if there were any other SOG fans in here. It used to be such a great game. I just recently downloaded it again on Google play and now it doesn't work and the reloaded version doesn't work. Kinda sucks as it was as a great detailed WWII flight combat game. I tried some of the others and they just weren't the same. I'm not really into WWI games as much. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to a good replacement or how they stop that game free music FC on devices? Thanks!

I played SoG from the beginning of its release. As far as the Nexus 7 goes, it has never worked on it. The reason is that it is not compatible with the tegra 3, which is what we have for a graphics chip. It would require a major overhaul, and that will never happen. And as far as I can tell, it wont run on any android running 4.1.x or higher. Yes, it is a great game. But, it was released in December of 2009, and never got a good update to keep up with androids advancing versions.

I don't remember. I had installed on my GS2 back in the day and just recently thought "Hey that would be fun to play again" lol. These jet games suck too by the way.. Lol. Gosh makes me sad. I guess I could play the WWI games. The sad thing is that there are games out there that seem fun just mostly multi player online. I like the campaign modes. I used to have this one simulator back on pc that had this AWESOME mission were you had to protect a bunch of B-52's from the dang Germans.. Lol it was fun about 30,000 feet up planes everywhere bombs falling... Lol. Loved it.

I wanted to ask that y does our nexus 4 not have most nice games?
I saw brothers in arms 2, was not supported
Asphalt 6, not supported
Saw many more games (mostly 3d) and none were supported
Common games like asphalt 7/8 and gta were supported
Moreover, game developers have started tegra exclusive games that really makes me feel bad
Google advertised this phone as built for gaming, and we all know that our phone can easily handle tegra3 , then why can't we play those games?
Since this phone is a Google phone, I demand gaming support, at least for nexus devices
Can anyone tell me one some reasons good enough about this all??
Are there any adreno specific games??
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well basically it's up to the game developers, which devices they say are compatible.
If they say it's not compatible with our nexus 4 then we don't get the choice to install it. simple as that. Google doesn't get a say in that matter.
Don't go throwing demands about because it just makes you look like a spoilt kid.
There are many different variants of system on chip designs used in the various phones and tablets that android runs on.
Now it's impossible to expect developers to release an optimized version of every game they release, to cater to every different variant of soc out there.
Nvidia been a big name in the graphics industry setup and made agreements with developers to make optimized versions of their games with better effects (known as THD).
Now if you want somewhere to complain. I suggest you either go straight to the developers ask why they aren't supporting this device. Our go to Qualcomm and ask why they aren't pushing for optimized games on their platform.
Complaining here will result in nothing but people flaming you.

Kainy doesn't emulate anything, it's a remote desktop solution that's optimized for gaming. You connect to your computer and control it remotely while it runs the game.
