Is Gingerbread That Important - Desire HD General

Is Gingerbread that Important. I am reading on many sites that the update is pegged for April end. As far as I know I don't think these will be major change with this update.. pls let me know if I am wrong. Is this update that Important
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

Not really.
There are some "nice to haves" in gingerbread - and it gives HTC a chance to fix the bugs in the updates they've pushed out (such as the hella annoying SMS issue).
I'm running a GB ROM now and I am much happier with it than the Froyo ROMs - even if it is a leak.
My SonyEricsson LiveView works much, much better in Gingerbread than it did in Froyo. No more SMS issues either.
I just wish that someone was clever enough to hack CIFS support into the kernel as that's really the only thing I miss about Froyo - but I guess with a leaked ROM that's a bit tough!

I think the new htc sense 3d is really cool . I am not at all excited for gingerbread or any beyond update as I see no real changes... I am missing the apple app store big time and will switch back to iPhone if the app market don't improve on google. I like android handset but its slows down because of buggy software

If you think system is slowing down, try some no-Sense rom like CM7....its all about having options and setting up system to your liking....

I'm more interested in the multitouch typing. Hopefully it will keep up with me then.

If you are talking about the team I think you are, they said they are waiting for official froyo to do it..
Once official froyo source drops. Things will go more smoothly.. its amazing that our devs here have made the progress they have given the lack of necessity available.

I was just about to make a thread asking about the development of this Galaxy Sense we heard about last month.
With launcher pro a custom dock and beautiful widgets you can make your homescreens look just like the sense ui if you want it for the ascetics or as a placeholder til it gets ported

The Hero was the first android phone I ever owned, I loved sense on it because there were so many ways to customize it to my liking, tw just sucks, I want to go back to the evo so I can go back to the sense + froyo + CM6, but the epic's keyboard and excellent performance are keeping me here

Yeah I know alot of people like it pure google.
but to me it just isnt appealing or as functional.
the hero was my first android device so I did get spoiled
with htc sense. Just to my likings that it brought a better
experience and refresh to the Android interface. Widgets and apps.
I prefer it over TW. There are just a few things I prefer TW
over sense per say.
I think the rom was released and then discontinued for the galaxy s i9000 due to the devs having muliple issues that they were not able to resolve. Link to post --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877902
The only thing I ever liked about Sense UI were the widgets and the Weather effects.
With LauncherPro, you can get pretty much identical widgets, and then Beautiful Widgets will give you the same look of the clock widget. Plus, LauncherPro is infinitely customizable and you can do pretty much anything with it....
Sense UI has always been extremely laggy and slow in all the times I've used it, as a ROM port on my Nexus, and also stock on the Evo/Hero.
Wouldn't mind trying it out again on my Epic though!
The older version of fancy widget is also a wonderful alternative to the sense clock/weather widget.

Google Talk/Video update apk?

Would we (Evo users) get an apk for the new Google talk update?
Sent from my Steroid Evolution! >) ™
i really doubt we will get an official one, just yet.
when HTC releases the 2.3 update, official, we might.
if not, there are going to be a f**kton of upset Evo owners, after buying "flagship", "highend" phones with frontfacing cams.
IMHO, we have not yet had a Stable, Good vid chat app yet available for Android.
and given Googles competition with iCrap, I am frankly surprised this has not been worked on, implemented sooner.

The Nexus S supports ICS so our Vibrants should run it just fine. A Nexus S is basically the same hardware as a Galaxy S with NFC support. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be getting any official ICS from Samsung. We have yet to even see Gingerbread, although Tmobile also has a say in it. I've already decided to either get the Samsung Hercules or Nexus Prime to replace my age old Vibrant. I'm leaning towards the Nexus Prime simply for first-served updates directly from Google.
Looking at the leak that could have just been edited GB, I mean any of the devs here could have made that.

I could really care less about Ice Cream Sandwhich for the Vibrant. Update is released in December, we wait at least 6 or so months for CM8 to be stable, the new update may pose new problems upon the existing ones, and by then the phone is 2 years old already. Touchwiz already offers GPU-acceleration in its launcher and browser, and for the most part, the current Honeycomb GPU acceleration is still lacking compared to that of iOS or WP7 (app drawer, screen rotation, and homescreen animation still lags a little). Not really expecting much of ICS.

Yes, it is going to make Android the same across all Nexus branded platforms. Touchwiz, Sense, and Blur are not going anywhere and the manufacturers still have to modify ICS for each individual device. The Galaxy S is done for official support, period. Samsung is not making any more money from the original Galaxy S compared to the SII; most owners of the original have or will already have switched devices so Samsung has no true need to update the international version. Google's 18 month update suggestion was what it was, a suggestion, and by the time December comes, the Galaxy S is about 18 months old anyways.

HTC Sense 4.0 General Discussion

So it is, the new Sense UI 4.0 has apparently been leaked to a select few, right before the HTC Ville release next month I guess, and for all you Sense fans, here's where you can let your imagination run wild.
Basically, just write what you think the 4.0 will bring to our phones, will it be an improvement or not and in what way.
(Sense 4A is a light version of sense, no 3D effects and plenty of other small things missing from the full Sense.)
Before you get your hopes up too high, read this first:
http://pocketnow.com/android/htc-sense-40-first-impressions
Here are the reviews of the Sense 4 devices:

Help thread ExtremeLegend™ Fuse for ppl who can't post at dev thread yet

Guys, this a now help thread for ppl that couldn't post in the dev section yet, so if ur a new xda member , don't hesitate to ask questions here
To be honest I think one of the only things the community of the Legend is still waiting for is ICS with working wi-fi/gps/HWA. And since you can't really port that's not going to be great. But we got lots of Froyo/Ginger choices already...
well i'm eagerly waiting for a working cm9,both because it's ICS and CM. i'm very pleased with cm roms,so i tend to stick to them, but i'm open viewed and would take any rom,if no other reason then just for fun and for testing.
thansk for the offer
Is it possible to have a combination of Vanilla + Sense, like SuperVillainZ ROM found across the more popular HTC devices?
CM9. 2.2 & 2.3 are fully covered.

cool, ill see what i can do, mate, im actually still using the Legend, its my first Android phone and i love it its what got me into android and dont wanna waste it, im using both phones now
Senseless, speedy ICS with WiFi working.
ICS won't be made available as the Legend does not have enough RAM (384MB), the Adreno 200 is aged, and MSM7227 won't have enough CPU power to run it. We already have enough Froyo/Gingerbread ROM's for this phone. Is it a great phone? Yes. However, there are quite a few newer HTC phones that the devs are putting their time and energy into. Don't contradict me about the chinese ROM going around. As long as the devs can't find the appropriate driver modules for the WiFi, BT, and GPS, it's not worth using.
Maybe a MIUI port? Now MIUI is open-source, so I think that it's possible
Im gonna see what i can do, i think ill start with a very clean cm7, but ill work my way thru. Cheers for the opinions guys !!!

Kay, ive decided. Imma name it Extreme Legend Fuse, its gonna be based on latest stable version of CM7. Theres no use of making an ICS if it wont work properly as we have no ICS sources specifically for the
