I got to looking at Acer case and noticed three small holes almost centered at the top of the cover flap (above the Acer logo). They seem posistioned over the card slot cover. Lifting the slot cover you will see a hole at the lower left corner. What is for? It was important enough to have Acer put three holes in the cover. I though it might be a microphone, so tried recording and covering up the hole to see if it affected sound levels...it didn't. Anybody have any ideas?
- Microphone
- Unknow (noise cancelation ?)
- Light Sensor
I'm pretty sure the second hole is the noise cancellation mic...
lol ... my other half took a quick glance at the thread and posts ... and then a double take ...

This is for those of you with intermitent loud speaker problems especially those who have noticed problems when the stylus is inserted into the silo as mentioned here and here. Facing a daunting 4-6 week separation whilst my UK import TyTN was shipped to Germany for warranty repairs, I caved and cracked open the back.
Attached is a slightly grainy closeup (the macro on my Contax U4R sucks) showing what I found. Yes, that's the damnable clear vinyl shim (pink circle) that others have encountered. And that's a loose speaker connection (thankfully not a full blown short as I had feared).
The shim appears to have been jammed by the stylus into the loudspeaker connection (red circle) and unseated the plug 'just so' (burgandy circle) from the mobo. The case was keeping it partially seated. However the case would flex out thanks to the stylus- a condition that was probably exaggerated by the shim. Without the shim my stylus no longer comes out of the silo fully extended- but that's a small price to pay for hearing the phone ring.
In addition to what teambnet says - even if your stylus retaining block of rubber has not come off and hit the connector - that connector (see teambnets picy) is not the firmest and could easily come loose as teambnet says and cause poor/non-existent connection to speaker. Simple fix it's just a push in pull out block connector. Don't assume you have to have given your device a hard knock. Even the odd vibration over time could work this one loose.
This does not of course 100% rule-out, that some folks may have a software issue instead.
Mike
Thanks,
Very useful tip. It fixed my phone
.
where the built in microphone is located?
.
im guessing at the bottom. probably some small slit along the silver lining. but thats just a guess
hey good question. i dont know either
Right below the deviece (below the OK button) there is a small hole (in my case) in the silver front cover. That small holl is the mic.
and I though mine had a small dent
wow its a realy small whole
I've been reading in the Tmo forums about people who have been having battery cover problems. Does anyone have the issue where if they press the battery cover side that is between the power button and the camera button, it produces a clicking noise, like that of a snapple top?
Yeah, I just live with it.
It's rather a chirping sound in that same spot on my dev phone, but I fixed it by putting three layers of tape on the inside of that corner of the battery cover so that it can't move about when you squeeze on it. No more noise.

Click to collapse
I'll have to try that out. I already put 4+ layers of black electrical tape on my keyboard to stop my phone from creaking and making a buzzing noise through the earpiece. I guess a little more tape on my phone won't hurt, thanks.
Hi,
whenever my hd2 uses the vibrate feature, it only gives off a weak vibration, together with a more high pitched sound than usual. Is this a known problem?
thanks
its happening to me :S
look carefully at the camera flash cover...most likely, this cover has been depressed into the body of the phone.
i had this same problem about a month ago. so i carefully saw the (widely available) dis-assembly video. you only need to go through about 10% of the dis-assembly steps...essentially, just remove the back cover and re-seat the camera flash cover.
once you remove the back cover, you will notice that the vibrator motor lies just beneath the camera flash cover...that is why you hear that funny "new" vibration noise.
one final note...if you decide to fix the problem yourself, be sure to use a PLASTIC prying tool. i didn't and i got some scratches and nicks on the bezel area
Hi,
For all those who have the black screen during call/ windows button not responding issue try this. It is a tech repair, so if you're not comfy dismantling your device take it to a pro.
I've had some spare time to repair an Omnia7 for a friend [ I was acting middle man between Samsung and him]. Sammy serviced the device 4 times and changed everything ( the mainboard, the sensor, AMOled screen) but the problem kept on showing up.
I have traced the fault to the fact that the sensor is pushed to the right by the ribbon attached to it and thus acting wrong. The tape that is supposed to keep it firmly attached is getting weak in time and allows this migration.
Steps:
1. Take apart your phone. Simple job. Remove battery&sim card. Upper cover pops out, 3 screws. Slide out the back. 2 screws at the bottom and the bottom comes off. 2 screws under that cover and the antenna+mic comes off. 2 middle screws for the plastic piece. 1 silver screw for the upper speaker module. 2 silver screws for the mother board. disconnect 2 connectors (1 up for camera and 1 down for buttons)remove mother board carefully ( lift up a bit the vibrator, volume, I/O and camera buttons. they are attached with double sided tape, disconnect the Screen- it's under mb).
2. Take a look at the sensor PCB. I bet it's moved in opposite of the side where the connection ribbon is. You need to realign it. Lift the earpiece and jack. they are connected to the proximity/ ambient light sensor. Should come out fairly easy,it's only double-sided tape. Realign it with in a fashion that leaves at least 1 mm from the side.
There are different ways to make sure the problem does not appear again. Hot glue- just a droplet , piece of plastic, better double sided tape. Choose whatever you like.
3. Reassemble the phone.
Also, see photos attached. Notice how off centered was the sensor PCB
Lol, man its working
