CM7 video camera app on stock gingerbread possible? - EVO 4G General

I would really like to get the cm7 video camera app on stock gingerbread. reason being the audio is far superior to the crappy stock gingerbread worthless video. Shame on you htc/sprint for not updating audio quality. I could care less about 720p if your not going to put decent audio with it.
is there a kernal I would have to change to? and would this affect stability of stock?

I agree. Gingerbread is supposed to provide for aac and amrwb audio recording, so I've been anxiously awaiting it's release for my evo. I spent half the day backing up all my stuff, downloading the new gingerbread ota, flashing, then restoring everything--only to find the crap camera app is no better than the piece of junk I already had!
WTF! This is EVIL games they are playing with us. Pure EVIL I tell you!

bump anyone else have an answer to my question? about getting cm7 video cam on stock ginger
(actually ginger is worse because flash doesnt sync with photo now lol at least on mine)

Camcorder on nand builds

Just flashed my first NAND ROM a gingerbread version I believe. Holy **** is my first impression. Amazing. Question is with the camcorder.
Do some NAND builds have a fully functioning camcorder, (The one on my build is very choppy) or are they all the same regardless of build?
Aside from camcorder this build (wish I remembered atm.) Is perfect!
Thanks

I can't respond with much more knoweldge other then use regarding DFT's and CMLXGO, or whatever his user name is, roms. Both haave a working camcorder with no issue albiet no 720p recording. To my understanding there are no android builds for HD2 yet that support 720p recording.
Also camera quality and camcorder quality is amazing with both of these builds for a cell phone. I actualy bought this phone after seeing pictures from a stock HD2 from a friends phone at my wedding. Android carries true with the same functionality as winmo 6.5 in quality. Winmo 7 still leaves some to be desired though in both departments, but progress is fresh and young and I'm sure it will get better.
Ok I think you said that certain builds DO have a we'll functioning camcorder? I will try and find another build then.
Ideally still on gingerbread. Anyone have a particular Rom running gb with good functioning camcorder.

Yes. Sorry for not being so clear. The two builds I have used have a perfectly working camcorder.
As for a Gingerbread build? Try this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060
I dabled with that one for a day or two but I prefer sense builds for my personal taste. If I remember correctly this rom has full camera functions.
Is their a sense version of gingerbread? do like sense but am enjoying the crap out if gb
I think I am on the build u posted but wont know for sure until I get back on PC.
I did see on that forum that can did work but only at low quality settings. Going to test that shortly.
I guess in general I want to make sure I'm getting the most of this hd2 . Just got it and coming from a tilt2.
Thanks for the help.

If you want a sense camcorder that syncs the videos and audio correctly, and has good quality, get a desire build. The desire hd/z builds don't sync the audio and video correctly, atleast for me.

How many of you are happy with EB13?

I updated my Epic on the day EB13 was released. I used the update.zip using the stock recovery on my stock/rooted DI18 (no data/cache wipes before updating) which kept all my data and apps intact. After the update, the only problems I had were the one related to the camera (video lag in low light and still camera FC in sport mode), but after the kernel fix was introduced (thanks to mkasick) I have had absolutely ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, NO problems. Granted I am still using basically the stock EB13 rooted only with Launcher Pro, but everything has worked as it should (GPS, SMS, MMS, video recording, camera, music player, SD card, etc.). The only issue for me is probably the checkerboarding on the stock browser which is not a big deal for me anyways.
How many of you have been happy with your EB13 upgrade experience?
I am waiting for a custom ROM.
Mine worked good on stock and even better using the genocide kernel.

I'm running a beta build of a custom rom and I couldn't be happier. I'm not having any of the issues reported

I've been very happy with the upgrade, I haven't ran into any problems with this build. Now I'm just waiting for the developers to really start pushing out their releases! Dying to get my hands on a official CM6.2 and MiUi!

Already running Midnight rom with the Genocide kernel. Getting great battery life and my GPS definitely feels improved. Haven't dropped signal during nav yet (knock on wood)
Can't wait for more Roms and especially updated Cyanogen and Miui like above.
Running EB13 with midNIGHT ROM 4.1....my phone runs great, better than when it was on a DK28 mod
Mine runs great all stock EB13

The Genocide Kernel, is a kernel made my one of the Devs here. You can find it's thread in the Development section for more details.

I was using stock EB13 with no problems..today I flashed the genocide kernel since I figure it can't hurt to have more battery life...
As for checker-boarding on the browser..coming from a TP2..I hardly call that checkerboarding lol
as for the checkerboarding browser, does anyone know if that is only on the stock browser, or others such as Dolphin as well?
Running EB13 stock w/genocide, no complaints. I use the miren browser as my default.

I flashed eb13 with the samsung exe and immediately got root access and changed over to deodexed/ext4 and with the lastest genocide kernel .... close to perfect ... with the overclock and pretty heavy use battery life is darn good, amazingly. My battery app estimates 11.5 hrs @ 58%. I'm constantly picking the thing up and using it today. All apps run fine and now the browser is substantially faster than the wifes laptop! Was just on the gamestop site with a flash game review playing along side a bunch of animated adds and it still played great. 1375/3020 smartbench. This is all the "phone" I'll need for some time to come! Since the camera fix in genocide kernel, all regrets are gone. Plus, if you love video media like I do, you MUST have 2.2 as the video decoding and audio decoding are sgnificantly improved. 2.1 would stutter a bit with very high bit rate stuff. 2.2 makes the best quality video play FLAWLESSLY. Never a dropped frame. Even @2mbit/sec. Watching a movie on my phone is nearly as pleasing as my well calibrated big screen.

EB13 is pretty good. Except for the bt voice dialing not working. If you don't have this issue what update method and what rom are you running???
Epic 4g
I'm happy. the battery is lasting for up to 24 hours now. I even slept through the night without charging it and woke up to a not dead phone. oh the possibilities
stock eb13 w root and cam patch, couldnt b more pleased w my phone
Not me. Its seems much better at first. But when you start getting random fc's here and there it tells you somethings wrong. In all honestly I think 2.1 eclair ran this phone with ease like a current machine would run winxp. No problems and everythings snappy. Works the way its suppose to. Throw win7 in and now youve complicated things by adding in bore instruction sets that might conflict. Not to say that it isn't gonna work well but we can clearly see sprint was full of **** when they said they were thoroughly testing for bugs. Build the is from the ground up with gingerbread. Until that happens were gonna keep getting updates that fix **** instead of updates that turn our epics for the better. Its what this hardware deserves. Next year when tegra 2's are mainstream phonemena hummingbird will be the mid level tier. Even with 2.2 I still think this hardware has more to give.
My 2 cents.

That's impossible in all honesty. With the way people were crying about the 2.2 update to build something from kernel up and redo it people would be crying "gingerbread is taking too long" screw Samsung, and Sprint...
i odin'd back to DI18 a day before EB13 and only restored contacts.
once EB13 dropped, i wiped everything 3 times w/ clockwork, upgraded via the update.zip method. Then did the 1 click root, and manually re-installed all my apps etc.
The one thing that really kills the 'new' froyo for me is the bluetooth problems still being present like on DK28. I got so damn irritated w/ DK28's bluetooth problems that i actually went back to 2.1
Now that i'm using EN13, I'm still pretty honked off but it hasn't irritated me enough yet to go back to eclair.. depends on how flaky the bluetooth becomes.
So far, I'm running stock EB13, 1 click root, genocide kernel installed yesterday) and gonna gauge battery life.
I'm really wanting to try out the MIUI and/or cyanogenmod once they're a little less buggy.. the devs are making great progress, but i need a fairly non-buggy phone for work so that's why i'm waiting (not complaining.. i experiment on the weekends w/ ROMs and such)
my .02

just got a evo and i need a fast stable rom!

i traded my epic for a evo and im looking for a fast stable rom where everything works...i was looking at the 2.3 roms but they dont have 4g or 720 vid recording so that sucks...
im fine with a 2.2 rom i was thinking about fresh's rom what do u guys think?
Are you looking for a sense or aosp rom?
If sense, imo go with Myn
For an aosp, I like cyanogen

I have had no issues with cyanogen's 7.0.2.1 at all. Everything works for me and have had no f/c's.
IMO its a good thing always under construction

CM 7.0.2.1 is a 2.3 rom and have both 4g and 720 vid recording working flawlessly.
A great stable, fast sense rom is Eternal Prophecy
Go with Cyanogen mod 7.0.2. It's just as smooth as the Epic you are used to, unlike 2.2, which feels kind of rough and not as smooth sometimes.
It DOES support 4G, and it's very stable.
Oh, and don't buy into the 720p video hype. The quality of the video and especially audio with official 720p recording is far worse than the unofficial not-quite-720p-but-close video on CM7. On CM7 video is smooth, clear, free of stutter, and audio is crystal clear. Don't believe it? Shoot and compare.
alright ill try those 3 thanks guys i just wanted get some input

Oh, then there's absolutely no contest here. The audio in Sense is pure garbage. We're talking 8-bit, absolute crap quality that makes even voices sound terrible.
hey do u have to wipe 3 times before flashing like on the epic?

Not really... You do have to wipe 3 "things" though... User data, Dalvik Cache and cache
If your using clock work mod,i would still wipe everything 3 times to be on the safe side. With amon ra you dont have to but out of habit I wipe everything 2 times just to be safe as I came from a epic as well.

Cyanogen 7 is pretty legit..
Yeah, as others have said, Cyanogen is probably your best bet. Especially if you're coming from an Epic.
You might also want to try MIUI, it's a completely different feel from any other ROM. Not sure if 4G works or not though.
either decks aosp rom or salvage-mod.
I like Sprint-lovers.
CM7 is great, but does have issues with some secured wireless networks, which is why I run MikFroyo, which uses the stock sense Rom as a base.

Gernal Evo questins?

First of all Thanks to everyone for all the help. and sorry to throw all this out at once.
Got my Evo 4G all rooted and set up. Running Decks. Was wondering what would be the best kernel/setting for this ROM to optimize battery life. As it seems to be dropping quicker then when i had it at OTA (might just me be watching more closely), but just wondering. Also from what i have found there are not any custom ROMs that support 720p recording, I would have to go back to OTA for that correct?
A quick question about emulators. Is there one that does all (NES, SNES, GB/GBC/GBA)? or do i need a separate app for each one?
There are custom ROMS that support 720P, just none of the newer ROMS.
Most of the older Froyo based did and you may want to read the OP's on the newer GB ROMS.
I'm no expert on the art of ROMing, but since all the new ROMs are based on the source of other phones (ones with different cameras and ways of interfacing with them) it is very unlikely all the "hot" new ROM's out there will support 720p recording for a while at least.
Although I've flashed most of these before, I never actually checked if they recorded 720p, but ROMs like these probably have most of the features of the EVO fully functional:

IF perhaps even these somehow lose their HD recording abilities, I would recommend reverting back to good old MikFroyo. Easily my favorite pre-2.3 ROM ever.

Camera stock vs custom

Ok.. so this has probs been covered hundreds of times but hey
Touchwiz isnt my greatest love and want to move to cm13, the only thing holding me back is reading about camera quality drops when using custom roms, but is it a major drop in quality, i mean im not one for looking at pictures on the pc and blowing them up..
Has anyone got any examples of cm13 pictures..maybe even a similar picture from stock which they have
Anyway thanks for any help
The camera won't suddenly turn QVGA just by changing from official to custom.
I feel like people exaggerate when saying that the quality is worse.
You'll lose most of the features from the stock camera, but it's not like the camera will suddenly turn into a 1 Megapixel camera.
If you're a casual user, you'll be just fine.
I like to focus, snap and be happy with a decent pic..thats about it
Might go for CM13 official then, i spose if not happy come back to stock
I don't use the stock camera apps in AOSP or Cyanogenmod (when I was using it). Half the time the binary would crash so badly that only a reboot would fix it. So when using AOSP (currently using JDC AOSP 7.0) or Cyanogenmod I install a camera app that uses its own binaries. That eliminates camera issues in AOSP for me.
