Does this mean it's possible that we'll see unofficial 3rd party adapters and accessories?

that appears to be a 7" galaxy tab?
is the pinout the same on the 10.1s?

GT-P1000 & GT-P7500 resistor values/resistor list
Hey guys.
I can't not be the only one some need Resistor values for the Galaxy Tab.
Like this for i9000 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275
plz help me with the resistor list for the Galaxy Tab (P1000 & P7500)
I know i have to use Pin 13 (USB ID) + GND Pin 15.
But the list with resistor values will be so ****in nice.
My Resistor List:
20K ohm - USB Host
7.5K ohm - Car Dock (Finde from a car dock without sound, only power)

yes they are the same
I bought a galaxy tab 7" usb connector to charge my galaxy tab 10.1 and it works
Also its able to connect to kies with it so they are the same

In order to use pin 27, 28 & 30 to get audio out, I am assuming you need to strap a resistor somewhere to get the tablet to output audio. Can some one let me know where and what value? I built an audio cable but alas no audio output

just because the charging cable is the same, does not mean the pin out is the same. the galaxy tab 7" composite cable doesn't work on the 10" tab.

here's a photo of the 30pin taken apart from the composite cable i just mentioned. let me know if you can't make out any of the resistor bands.

As the pic on is for a GT 7", i wonder if anyone has managed to get a gt 7" in download mode with making a "jig" like the one you can make for i9000?

30-pin Connector Adapter DIY Problem
I already own a standard MHL adapter cable with micro-USB plug and HDMI output, which works for various devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note, S2, HTC Sensation, Flyer, etc. This is a good investment because the adapter is a standard one.
I don't want to buy another MHL adapter with proprietary 30-pin plug for my new Galaxy Tab. The 30-pin version MHL for tab is unreasonably much more expensive and I can't find a third party substitute at this moment.
Thus I am trying to make a connector adapter so that I can use my existing MHL adapter. Unfortunately, following the pinout diagram shown above, I was unable to make it work. I am sure that I connected the MHL_DP, MHL_DM correctly. The problem probably lies on the MHL_ID. I have tried connecting the MHL_ID to ground but it didn't work. I wonder if anyone can give me some hints? Should I add some resistors? Where can I find more information?
The attached picture shows my DIY design (not working at this moment)

@aeioo: Sorry I'm of no help, but please if you finally get it working, please, please, please, let me know.
I own a Galaxy Nexus and a Tab 7.7 I don't have the MHL adapter yet because I can't decide for which device do I want it.
What you are trying would be the perfect solution for me.
Regards

I have seen a block diagram in page 11 of this datasheet You can see there that the MicroUSB pin 4 is connected to the MHL Proccessor, so may be that you have to connect MHL_ID to pin 4 in the MicroUSB connector.

Just a thought... Any idea if this would hit it off?
Looking at the different diagrams, and similarities between the 10.1 and 7 tab-
Thrown together a power cable with USB host, and audio/video out. Bit old school composite video but should be able to load videos from USB drive, play out to projector/TV, and NOT GO FLAT!
Not tested as waiting for the 30pin connector and some resistors, as i can imagine having to find the correct mode on pin13 will be difficult. Started out in host and powered mode here and will improve/update when i get the parts. Anyone managed to get anything similar working?
Diagram link - www . supportituk.co.uk/#/images/4562009987

Would it be possible to get the HDMI out connector working without an external power source? Or is a fix available via software?
Thanks

How to disasemble conector?
Thanks

Hi,
sorry if it was mentioned before, but
is it possible to use HDMI, USB OTG, charging, and audio out at the same time with the 10.1 Tab or 10.1 Note?
ed.:
And is it not possible to have USB OTG and USB out at the same time ?
ed.2: (eg. for being connected to pc and usb-stick at the same time)
I think it could really have the power of a netbook, but the connectors...

OTG for Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000
Hello, what I'm looking is enable the OTG function For Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000L.
The only thing I found was a video where this function is achieved activate, but need an external power, and update to version CyanogenMod 9 from HumberOS, for enable the usb-host function.
Is there any way to do this but without the need for external power supply?
And sorry if my english is bad.

Pin 6 Current ability
Does anyone know how much current can be drawn from pin 6 of the 30 pin connector?
Thanks for any info

hey guys you can check this site out http://techno-fix.com/ . i found my pinout searches there. there are very usefull things

What is it exactly that tells the tablet there is an official charger connected?

is it possible to use the connector to wake up the tab? all of my physical buttons are dead so right now the only way to wake up my tab is by pluging it to any power source.

now I need to connect the wheel buttons (volume/track/hangup controls..) from CAN line to the galaxy tab, somehow. I've seen around the web some some sort of madeinchina sticky buttons, that connects via bluetooth.. but I'd prefer not to rewire the wheel (meaning opening it and re-soldering buttons) with these crappy things.
Any idea?
That is awesome!
nice integration; I see you're using Torque, what OBD bluetooth system are you using? Was about to go for PLX but found some so much cheaper on ebay I can't make up my mind. Don't know if quality really differs.

I have the classic OBDkey from the www.obdkey.com site. I never tried on android so far, it used to work on an old htc winmobile, so it's supposed to work here as well. I lend it to a friend of a friend, so .. as soon as I get it back I will do a full video of what the integration is capable of (gps, phone etc). I should also clean my car a bit first
cool! What live wallpaper is that, and what is the last app?

A few suggestions. Install "no lock" to get rid of the slide to unlock and use launcher pro home replacement. LP gives many more config options so you won't need to go into the app drawer as often.

OK thanks, I've seen this one, but it's more expensive than PLX, and it seemed that there is no on/off switch on it, feature that PLX one have. Have fun!
You're right, no power switch so it will drain your battery out if you don't hack it a little bit, for instance removing the +12v pin and wiring that guy to the car's key-switcher +12v cable. Most newer car, like my Mito, has the [switcher] iso cable not connected, same thing for reverse gear indicator, open doors.. all of these things are now travelling on the CAN bus, so there are some interfaces available (not that expensive 10~20 euro) to extract those key-switched +12v, and all the other stuff.
@ruspa the man in the video can control de audio with the SWI
It's a brilliant IDEA, I would love to do the same on my car, maybe when I earn enough funds. In my car I would need the home dock from samsung.
Does you have any idea about the possibilities of the 30 pin connector, to pull out audio, an usb plug, and how to put rear cam video? I know that's not pdmi standard connector.
Do you know(or anyone else) where can I find the 30 pin connector schematics?
just another implementation I found on youtube, he has steering wheel control, didn't answer to my question on youtube, how he did it.

awesone stuff!
We are doing a new "dashboard" for using the Tab in the car.
Will hopefully get some screenshots but at the moment we are doing the companion hardware to it.
The hardware has a couple of modules and is ment to be for several different applications.
Bluetooth communication to the tab
Trying to get BT audio as well but not prioritized atm.
An AVR micro to control it all
It has 8 analog inputs that can be set up for 12V or 5V input
8 output (switches gnd)
1 IR in (on 3,5mm jack)
1 IR out (on 3,5mm jack)
module 1:
Car interface
has ELM327 onboard which gives acces to K-lines and CAN bus
(we are using a pre made commercial board for this)
module 2:
Mostly for Range rovers...
dual audio stereo input
digital volume control for both inputs
op amps and balanced line drivers to be able to use incar audio system
they all have separate digital volumes
sub output with digital controlled filter and volume
The protocol and app will be open sourced when we get the basic bits running.
The hardware will be sold as kits or preassembled units in boxes in RangeRover version and basic version.
And btw this is the schematics for the connector on the tab:

about ODB or PLX
Hi nice installation. Can you give name of differents software / dongle for connect to CAN bus for SGT ? I'm looking for dongle and software for reset car warning message.
Well now I own a galaxy tab(found it cheap and new) and lacks FM radio but think its hardware capable, so is software fault.
I found some interesting manuals in samfirmware SVC, with lots of schematics maybe had been post before but I didnt saw them.

[Q] hacking docks to provide audio, hdmi or sync (MHL and stuff)

I've spent some time searching looking for something on the subject, but haven't found anything that seems to cover it (does that make me special (I did laugh at the video), but enough off topic).
so I specifically have the Samsung Galaxy Note. though I realise in a lot of ways its really just a big S2 in most regards. and I suspect several other devises that would be comparible.
I'm currentlty using a dual charging dock station which I bought cheaply of amazon, and that gives me sync and power. having looked inside the case there loads of spare room in there. and so I'm wondering about playing around with the MHL adapter and ideally something like the audio out with the official samsung dock.
from what research I've done the note senses what type of dock its in by the resistance on pins 4 and 5. now even with my basic electrical skills it seems rather easy to put in a 3 way switch to select between these
obviously the guts for the HDMI out would be from a MHL adapter, and that should be possible to power through the standard connectors on the current dock. but what I cant seem to find would be the associated parts for the audio (dont want to buy the official samsung dock just to rip it apart) (one thread on here about stripping the cable back to power and then the 3 inner wires were left, right and ground, but didn't see any evidence of that method working)
the audio aspect has another relevence for me, as I'm also wondering about a note dock/speaker set up (cheap 2.1 speakers, rehouse the sub to a case that incorperates the mUSB connector, audio components, and power, so that other than speaker cables and one power cable that'd be it (currently use a Sony NWA-3000 plugged into old pc speakers for such night time listening)
so thoughts and advise (specifically on the audio aspect)
Thatz pretty impressive. I too have that sony dock. I think about modification of it so that i can plug in my hd2 in it. Ie just to put an micro usb plug out from it, so that i can charge my phone while i plug in 3.5mm jack from the sony dock.
Thatz all about mine.. now letz look into ur case.
Cant u try out 3.5 mm jack for audio o/p?
Or else u can check out pinouts.ru for pin config of hdmi, coz, u r going to take out hdmi from sg note any way. So u can rip the cable apart and take out audio and video wires, connect the video cables to tv and audio to dock/ amp.
But i suggest that 3.5 jack will be the easier way.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
So I don't know about it, I would say that it really isn't that feasible. Besides putting a different resistance you would also need to route the data lines to a different location to the MHL to HMDI converter.
If you were to do the video or USB you couldn't do audio. From what I understand there is a IC that looks at the resistance on the ID pin and puts the audio signals on the data lines. Once again you run into the same problem that you have with the video adapter, routing the data lines.
got a brief schematic for layout. I'm buying some cheap bits now (MHL adapter, USB soundcard, USB OTG cable)
first a few explanations on the schematic, software I used didn't have many switches on it, so plan to use a 4 pole double throw like this rather than the 2 sets of 2p2t shown in the diagram
secondly, not sure if I need to short pins 4&5 for OTG, still reading stuff

guyz, i wanna ask something, in order to use MHL adapter, does the phone need to support MHL protocol? and the protocol resides in the hardware part or software part of the phone?
The MHL lives in the phones hardware is the simplest. If you find the Galaxy S2 hack pack it will show you a block diagram of how the MHL exists there.

as giritrobbins said it is hardware based.
it shares the microUSB connector, but uses an entirely different signalling. hence why it has to be separated out. otherwise a hub would do every thing I'm trying to do here
Hi, folks just thought I would ask how this project is going ? It's really quite fascinating.
Pin 5 (ground) can be carried through to everything.
OTG requires ID (pin4) to be connected to Gnd (pin 5).
In the diagram above S2 is not really needed.
If you want to switch electronically, there are lots of ICs for doing that.
Here is one picked entirely at random: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/FS/FSA3000.pdf
MHL will be the trouble spot, USB is much more forgiving.
I've seen docks like the one you're tying to build on eBay with built in MHL; is that what you're after?
Well, if you look at the service manuals, they have lots of details about where stuff is coming from.
The MHL is all digital coming from the HDMI chip. There is however audio, which you'd need to enable in the snd driver as
a RX enabled, and also it looks like the I2S would have to set up the microUSB chip to export the analog
audio through the USB port.
At least in the case of the 8960 systems (Galaxy S3, OneX?) this is the USB driver setup.
The audio is coming directly from the qualcomm codec chip and you'd have to enable it with
the tabla stuff, then the USB, but it might be programmed to sense USB headset.
---------- Post added at 10:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 PM ----------
Basically, if you want analog output only, you need to use the MUS_I2C to tell the Fairchild USB analog mux to enable the
audio lines. Then you would need an audio amp because the codec output can only make it to the analog mux
and I'm not sure what kind of buffering is on the uUSB chip. But if you are going this route, you might as well use
the headphone jack. It's not digital unless you use the MHL.
Two things to bear in mind when demultiplexing the USB connector:
The analog audio out ("CarKit") has a signal that goes below ground.
Some electronic demultiplexors might not handle that.
The MHL signal goes into the Gigahertz.
Don't try switching that with a Radio Shack relay or connecting using loose wires.
MHL uses the two data lines for TMDS data and the ID pin for CBUS.
Hi, folks just thought I would ask how this project is going ? It's really quite fascinating.

[Q] USB OTG and charging?

I haven't ordered a Nexus 7 yet, as I need to get this question answered. I have read the OTG thread in general, but no answers to this.
Since OTG is now working, if you use a Y cable, can you charge while playing media off of a thumb drive?
I want to use the nexus to replace my in car dash mountEd Samsung galaxy tab 7, and 16 gigs isn't enough space (podcasts, [video and audio] and my music), and I need it to be able to charge while driving.
Thanks in advance.

Here are some cheaper versions
Off the top of my head, the cables listed won't work as-is.
USB OTG is a male micro plug to female USB receptacle.
The Y cables have the requisite 2 male ends and one female, but they are connected wrong.
(I own several different ones, and they are all wired the same way, so I'm assuming that will be the case for a majority of these types of cables...)
These are desired to draw data & power from one of the male plugs, as well as drawing power from the second male plug. The female plug receives the data and the increased power from the second plug.
You would need a cable that actually has a male where those have female, and replaces the existing data/power male with a female.
(The more times I read that, the less sense it makes to me, so please let me know if more clarification is needed...)
Guys, that's just the first cable I found what I searched the Internet for a USB Y cable from my phone.
Thanks for your input though.
The question still stands, with the appropriate cables will it charge while you access data from a memory card?
I'm told this setup will work on the galaxy tab, I just want to know if it will work before I buy one.

Now that these are arriving and in some peoples hands, can someone try this for me please?

This is exactly a question I asked in general q&a. I would also love to know this as I was thinking about doing this.

Would this work, it seems to have a micro usb which I assume is a through power for changing and maybe would power usb hd?
Unknown.
I'm really surprised barely anyone is interested in this question...

this is my understanding
otg usb take pin 4 and ground to pin 5, that's all that's special about them, and doesn't mess with the vcc (power wire)
however since the N7 is powering devices downstream, then also sending power upstream can damage the device...
i use the y-cable+power setup for my kindle fire because the usb port doesn't supply enough power, all it does is provide enough to power the device so the KF can read it
maybe we'll get this when we can use the pogo plugs
good reading in these threads:

@twobikes - there's a button on the top there that switches it from usb host to usb slave (thus turning off otg), which allows it to charge

Hey, that adapter that was posted above works for you? OTG and Charge at same time. I really need your reply. Thank you.
May be in the future, modder can modify Nexus 7' s kernel n add sth which make OTG cable work.
I'm not sure, because I've not received my N7 yet, but I think it will works

The VCC pin supplies energy to device from Android, right?
If we plug the VCC pin of the Android in a external source and the VCC pin of the device in another, sure, don't closing the circuit of VCC from Android to device, and supplying 5v, it will work, charging Android and using OTG function?
I was wondering if some kind of "jerry-rigged" solution, almost "doing a MacGyver on it" haha, would work.
* Please note the image is only for explanation, this is not a valid configuration, is totally fictitious.
I remember the problem with xperia arc before that using usb otg y-cable does not charge the phone. I even made one myself. It must have been the standard usb spec not to accept voltage in vbus when in host mode. But the xperia dock can charge and usb host at the same time. There is some sort of circuitry inside but none has posted a disassembly yet. I am guessing the current might have been pulsed via pwm.
My cheap china tablet won't do both either. It has two usb ports but only one hosts (but not charging), the other guests and charges.
The samsung has a proprietary port with many pins so it is irrelevant.
Yes the LiveDock charges and enable OTG at the same time.

[Q] USB Keyboard not detected (micro USB)

Hi,
I had a new case and keyboard arrive for my nexus today but the keyboard doesn't seem to be detecting at all. I've been browsing all evening trying to find a fix but to no avail so far...
These are the specifics;
Nexus 7 wifi 32gb stock rom, JB 4.2.1
This exact MINI USB Keyboard (Can't identify manufacturer as the keyboard is built in to the case)
Mini usb - micro usb connector
I have verified the usb connector is working fine as I am able to plug in a mini usb charger to the nexus through it and it charges fine.
When I plug in the keyboard it doesn't work or seem to be detected in any way.
Where am I going wrong?
I can't try a USB OTG cable as I am not connecting a full size USB peripheral. I installed usb host diagnostics and ran it with the keyboard connected but I'm not sure how to interpret the results which are as follows;

Additional info;
I added a 51-android.rules file as per the process in this thread, and included ALL manufacturers and ID codes but still no fix
You *do* need an OTG cable. It has two pins (4 and 5) connected. That's what tells the tablet that it's in host mode. If you want to adapt yours, here's the procedure (obviously, use at your own risk!):
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...iy-making-your-own-otg-cable-image-heavy.html
tjupille is correct, a normal micro USB cable will only have 4 pins connected, the 5th pin needs to be grounded on the tablet side of the cable. If you can find/make a such a cable and if it's a standard USB HID keyboard then it should work out of the box on a stock N7 without the need for any special configuration.
I have also seen where some non-stock ROMs lose the OTG support. This wouldn't be your case as you are running what looks to be a stock ROM. Now then, I have had a few OTG cables go bad. Some of them are just made cheaply.
Thanks all, I understand the otg cable setup much better now. I figured that with a standard connection android should see the device as an input device and it would just work. Have a cable on order now. I have the kit to mod my existing adapter but for such a small amount of money I'd rather not gamble frying my nexus. Look forward to when it arrives as I keep going to use the hard keys!

dealextreme has some otg cables, you can purchase it.
A # of eBay stores carry these Micro USB Host Mode OTG Cable, originally designed for the Samsung Galaxry devices - I got one as a bundle along with the swivel case & screen protector, etc. Inexpensive & it works - on 4.1.2 and on 4.2.1 depending on the rom & kernel.
One of them selling a pair for under $5, free shipping and they are based in the LAX area of CA, mine arrived in less than a week - vendor has been around for years and sourced them mostly from oversea. The short piece of connecting cable is a bit longer than picture but still fit flat & tight against the bottom/side of the N7 with the case, so it won't be too bad flying 6 or 10+ hours with my own huge library collection of DVD's on a stick. Not a vendor / product endorsement & plenty of sources to get yours, plus Amazon ...

Mine was quite difficult to find as it's a micro one end and mini the other, but I've located one and it's ordered. Thanks for the links guys. I'm in the uk, it seems to be particularly difficult to find the one I need here for some reason!
Just my $0.02 on the whole OTG thing though.... why can't it be that simple to just connect a usb device and for it to work like things used to?? Why the need for an adapter? Surely these keyboard cases should all be OTG wired for maximum compatibility as a keyboard is never going to be a host device!
Ho hum...
Then if i understand good i need otg cable to be able to connect my keyboard ! The problem is my keyboard is already micro usb and i just find
OTG micro usb to usb 2.0 .
How to do then ?
Well I'm glad I found this thread after a couple of hours of fruitless searching (& mostly getting stuff about flash drives).
I tried to connect a case logic mini usb keyboard which I acquired for the princely sum of ten bucks, by using the cable that shipped with the Nexus and a usb gender changer, but the tablet did not recognize the device. I've had no trouble hooking the tablet up to a pc for chrome debugging, file xfers etc, and I tested the mini kb on a couple of pcs.
I thought it was something like this OTG adaptor thing, but couldn't figure out what was special about it vs. bog-standard usb plugs. I ordered one along with a powered usb hub, in case that was the/another issue, and look forward to getting this thing to work.
Thanks!
Edit: Sweet! The OTG adaptor worked like a charm, and with a powered hub I can run a wireless mini-mouse too.
Hi guys, I know this thread is quite old, but I have very, very important problem:
I've recently bought the same built-in to case keyboard with two wires: micro and mini.
The problem is that the micro one connected to the Nook Tablet or HTC Sensation does not work (although in case of HTC Sensation it is detected!).
When I connect the same keyboard to my sister's no-name tablet (something-made-in-China) via miniUSB it works like a charm! With no adapters, nothing!
The question is: should I try to find OTG adapter (and if yes, then which one? miniUSB to microUSB, or rather microUSB to microUSB?) ?
Thanks in advance for all your replies...

OTG for the nexus 7 is a bit different in terms of hardware requirements. Pins 4 and 5 on the micro USB side have to be shorted together for it to work. You will likely need an OTG cable that says in the description that it is compatible with the Nexus 7. Amazon and eBay are decent places to go.

Is buying another cable the only way to get to work?

i9505 MHL with CM12 and other Lollipop roms (no TW)

Hi guys,
can anyone help me get my MHL connection working with i9505 running CM12?
I bought a new MHL adapter (one side microUSB - charging port - HDMI out + reduction for micorUSB for S3) then I connected to my Samsung TV (older model like 4 years) and ... nothing happened on both sides. The only thing I saw was a phone charging from the adapter (because of external charger). Do I need to modify something, or is it my TV not supporting?
Appreciate help
bump --- really no one using MHL adapters?

Hi!
I've got some information, I think I can help you.
First is support for HDMI in CM12, i checked it on SaberMod CM12 and it's works. I dont know what with another CM12, CM11, MIUI build, TW rom support that but Live Demo Unit soft (S4 with Retail Mode and without GSM) no.
Second, what type of MHL you have?
- MHL1 with 5-pin cable - this is for S2, Note (1) Glalaxy Nexus and some another. Probably incompatible.
- MHL1 with 11-pin cable - for S3, Note 2, S4 and Note 3 work good
If you have MHL with 11-pin cable and it's not working you may use another reduction for micorUSB, maybe your is damaged or MHL is damaged.

thanks for answer!!!
The adapter is new and is for the newer models - Note 2,3 S3,4 - I tried connecting from microUSB and also with the reduction for S3 (different shape of a connector a little) - but still no go. TV saying no signal. Let's assume my connector is not broken (everything else works)
I am on AntaresOne's CM12 optimized. so I will try to ask in the thread you posted - maybe ther are some modification of the ROM inside which allows MHL.
and also with the reduction for S3 (different shape of a connector a little)

What you mean? S4 like S3 have the same microUSB port, can't be another shape of connector. The best way it to show your MHL cable. I have that:

I tried the microUSB reduction exactly as on your picture - the very left one (they probably forget to put S4 label on it - only S3 label for the reduction - so I tried both ...)

I'm sorry, but I have to ask to be sure - you connect microUSB to S4, big usb to power (usb charger/usb port in TV) and HDMI to TV?

I have slightly different model: I connected the (s3) reduction to the adpter microUSB - connect to phone. Then take my charger and connect it to the body of the adapter. Then the whole system is connected to HDMI.
