its sapp.nbh, but that's for "un-rooting" your MT3G.
"Best" is pretty subjective. I am constantly changing mine around, but the ones I have like most are:
1.6 Donut ROM: SUPER D
2.2 Froyo ROM: TheOfficial D/S (had this on my phone for maybe 2 months without issue)
2.3 Gingerbread ROM: I am currently using GingerYoshi 1.1, and just downloaded 1.2 so can't comment yet. with 1.1, I noticed these problems: GPS sometimes doesn't connect..at all. i have to go into google maps first if i want my location to show up...if i go into google navigation first, i have to leave that app and go to maps then into nav. Also...the damn ROM doesnt give you voice to text like the others do. It says "This device doesnt support this feature" when the 2.2/Froyo roms do.
All in all...if she doesnt like to tinker with her phone and she just wants it to work, I would use TheOfficial D/S from enomther. It's Froyo, but EVERYTHING just works...and it works well.
hopefully that helps.

I have had a mytouch 3g since 2009 when it came out and have used it since earlier this year when I bought a nexus one second hand for very cheap. Here's what I think...
1.6 - Donut. Super D. Definitely the best Donut Rom. I like the newer versions but this ROM was definitely fast.
2.2 - Froyo. Official AOSP. I used this for about a year or more with minimal issues. It did everything I wanted with occasional lag (but that was just me putting too many widgets =P)
2.3 - Gingerbread. I had Gingeryoshi 1.1 for awhile with some issues. The GPS messes up sometimes in that the screen went "fuzzy" but all I had to do was restart it. You have to get Ghostly SMS so you receive all text messages since gingerbread on a low memory device has issues receiving text messages. Battery life was better in my opinion. I upgraded to 1.2 shortly before I bought my N1.
As you can see my answer is very similar to the previous post which says a lot about those three ROMS.
I never had much success with the CM roms on the mt3g. It seems to lag way too much even with Auto Memory Manager and other apps just like it. I liked gingeryoshi the best... once you get over some of the bugs you come to realize it's gingerbread on the mytouch 3g which is freakin cool! My mom uses my old mt now with gingeryoshi 1.2 and loves it.

Most Stable ROM

Well I recently sold a mytouch 3g to my gf's friend that I rooted in the past (was a friend's phone who I bought from because he needed money) and it currently has CM 5.0.8 installed. She told me today that it has been running really slow lately no matter how many times she reboots and such. I told her I would look into possibly installing a different CFW for her that was more stable. Problem is, there are a ton of options to choose from and I have been out of the G1/MyTouch scene for a while.
Basically, she wants the phone to be stable and pretty quick. She doesn't need a lot of features or stuff that still has bugs to be worked out. I let her know I could unroot it and put 1.6 on there if we couldn't figure something out and she wouldn't be against that. Can anybody recommend a ROM that is very stable and quick besides the stock firmware? Doesn't matter if it's a 1.6, 2.0, etc. version.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Super D 1.11 is a fast/stable as you could go.... CM6 is amazingly fast but it's still in release candidate mode and an android novice might not be able to handle the flaws (if you can find some) in it. CM6 could beat it if it continues in the path in going in...

Yeah, CM was always the way to go for stability when I had my G1 a while back. That's why I threw 5.0.8 on the phone before giving it to her, but she said it's been really slow lately. I don't want to borrow the phone from her or anything to troubleshoot, that's why I'd rather find a known stable ROM and just flash that on there and be good.
I'll download that one and give it a try on her phone, thanks!
I noticed that the SuperD ROM says to have the sd card partitioned, is that a requirement for the ROM or no? Currently the card is not partitioned and if I could avoid doing that, that would be great. I'm going to be doing the flash at work and don't have a way to back up what's on the card already to partition it.
No it's not needed but if you plan on having things like Apps2SD or swap then yes.
Yeah I don't think she needs anything like that. Thanks for the help!
This is a good thread. I just rooted my friends g1 and put CM6 on there. I have been checking to see what the most stable Roms are..
I remember I would eventually start having issues with whatever ROM, so I would go back to a totally stock + rooted 1.6. If my friends doesn't like his CM6 I am going to put stock 1.6 with root access. Add wifi tether and add overclock/ setCPU. For functionality, that is a great way to go if you don't mind the old school look.

If you're going with SuperD (as you should IMHO), I'd use 1.9.3 or 1.7/1.8. The last two had some issues with installing apps - 1.11 in particular would occasionally FC newly installed apps until you ran fix_permissions. Not a deal-breaker, since it seemed stable otherwise but just a pain.

Yeah I installed the 1.11 version today and was not a fan of the launchers included and it started dragging it's feet after about 5 min of messing with it. Does the 1.9.3 have the stock, translucent launcher that you can drag upwards?

+1 I played with CM6 for a bit yesterday. I do like Sense better but CM6 is more customizable and you can OC it. I do wish Liberated had a kernel that's compatible with setcpu. I also hope attn1 can find the solution for trackpad wake. Other than that, I'm happy with Liberated =)
Is the sense rom acting slow for anyone? Its really laggy on my aria...
And how far does cm6 oc to?

when the official update comes out, we will have an updated kernel to work with. And eventually HTC will release the sources - and hopefully someone will build a solid OC kernel.
I'm sticking with FRXXX for a while. I am settled on using Sense, though I do believe battery consumption is higher with Froyo. No solid proof, just a perception. Maybe it is because I am spending so much time in my phone. Not on my phone...IN my phone. After a failed CM flash, I had to redo all of my home screens and redo all of my settings. That was enough to make me not want to change again.
i had the 806 overclock kernel posted elsewhere on this site running with liberated fr. didn't really see any speed difference. phone is plenty speedy with fr06. did have some issues with browser crashing so switched back to default fr06 kernel.
I'm running CM6.1 overclocked to 806, there are a few things that I have noticed as far as speed improvement goes. No lag between screens, 3D app drawer is insanely fast, app launching is a bit faster, that's all I have seen so far. I loved Sense when I first got the phone, but now using a more Vanilla like layout, I don't think I would go back to it.

Thats one of the things though, I don't know if I will feel comfortable leaving sense, I loaded cm6 with 2.2 froyo and it was nice and all, but the fb syncronization and weather and all that left me feeling empty

I didnt think i could live without sense when i first got my aria so i put off flashing cm6 for a while and ran the liberated roms for a while. But i finally gave in to see what all the fuss was about with CM6. I was missing sense for a little while until i started to discover everything i could do with the cm6 rom. Once I started digging into the customization and discovering all that the cm6 rom has to offer I started to realize that I would never want to go back to sense. Admittedly it took a while to get used to the look and feel of cm6 and not having sense but now I dont miss it what so ever. And when I did flash one of the latest liberated roms a couple weeks ago just see how it was coming along I immediately missed cm6 and flashed back. And the newest update to 6.1 is the best this rom has ever been.
And there are alternatives to the sense weather widgets available for cm6, and as far as fb goes, i have fb synced on cm6. Definitely no problems there.

interresting - i'm running liberated FR006 and happy with it. From what i've seen of standard froyo and CM6, a main thing i dont like is the contacts manager/people app. i like how the Sense UI integrates the "groups" from your gmail contacts. I may flash CM6 and try it for a few days., but i am very happy with liberated.

When i first log into the fb app it asks me if i want to sync. From that point on fb shows up in Menu>Accounts & Sync, where I can then turn on/off sync for fb (and google as well).
I've been running the CM6.0.1-RC1-Liberty for several days now. I really like it a lot! Especially the built in music player, the power control widget is brilliant!, and virtually everything internal to the phone is customizable in the settings. However, apps keep restarting by themselves, even after running the set permissions feature that automatically re-configures every app on the phone. Also, the SIM tool box is missing, so I can't access any of my contacts. Any contacts that are installed automatically sync to g-mail. I keep my contacts on the SIM specifically to protect the privacy of my contacts! I am sure they don't want their information synced to g-mail servers. While there may be a feature in the myriad of settings options to keep this from happening, I couldn't find it.
Today, I am going to flash to the Liberated Froyo with sense. Depending on what I get in terms of default apps, and most importantly, speed, I may add the Overclocking kernal as well. By Sunday, I should be able to make a decision as to which one I plan on keeping permanently. (I will move the contacts from the SIM to the phone this time, in case I want to go back to CM6!)
I will post my opinions as to which one of the two ROMs I like the best on Sunday after comparing.

Feedback about some custom ROMs I tried after rooting [Legend]

Hi there,
After managing to root my recent Legend (HBOOT 1.01 / OTA 2.2) using Blay0's manual I started trying...
Cyanogen 6.1: too "Gothic" for me (might be because it's my first Android phone and I kinda got hooked to sense / clean looks) Seems to be very tweakable though...
B 0.7: WiFi didn't work (sort of known issue which is mentioned there, but I didn't try the proposed solution, since I wanted to try other ROMs first
Modaco r4: ok, nothing special
YogenTouch: most beautiful and smooth one around, though 2 showstoppers for me: no choice of standard languages (especially chinese pinyin input) and G-sensor doesn't work [EDIT 2011-02-20: apparently a patch was released to make the G-sensor work]. Actually when I read about nu4a-yt1 I liked the feature set even more (get rid of facebook crap etc.), but without solving the showstoppers I'll first look on.
@moderators: could I please get permission to post to that thread (this one), it's kind of frustrating that I have real input here which could help making these ROMs better, but I have no way of providing my feedback (just because I don't have 10 posts yet). Thanks!
To be updated....
Cheers
UPDATE:
been using this one FroYo | Mdj Droid L2.1.110210 | with HTC Sense | Base 3.18.751.2 | App2SD+ for a bit more than a week now, without issues. It's quite similar to a stock HTC Sense Froyo ROM from a looks/functionality point of view.
When I find the time though, I plan to make an own ROM, mainly inspired by YogenTouch but without social apps (a bit like nYT) but with more languages.
Hey Penguin,
Nice of you to join us
But before you post such thread, think about the real contribution, not that it isn't appreciated, but you're mixing apples and oranges here, comparing Sense and nonSense ROMS, Eclair with Froyo...
It would be nice to clear what's what first ...
Oh and by the way B0.7 wifi works just fine for me...
Agree about the frustration not being able to contribute to the development forum. There's a few things I've learned along the way and there have been a couple of occasions where I reckon I could have helped a poster.
To add my 20c worth, I'm really happy with BlaYo's ROM, everything works the way it should and there's some cool stuff which brings it to another level - I'm especially liking the extra battery life I'm getting with his kernel and SetCPU.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
It should not be a biggie, right? You're just 7 posts away
Hey you're right, I should stay positive... 6 now...
Thanks for your welcome;-)
I guess what got me to try that YogenTouch was that it said "espresso 2.2" on the package, which suggested froyo. Anyway, it is mainly the graphics design which appeals to me. (speed might be higher, though I'm quite ok with FroYo too.)
I guess I'll have another go at B0.7, wait for 0.8 or bake my own (though too busy lately)
oh,btw, about the apples and oranges... that was actually intended, because it is actually the first thing anyone new to android and without having experienced the freedom of a rooted phone before would want to try. (which "style" is best for me, sense, stock, clean, tweaks, ...)

nDAF 1.7.5
It's been a while...
Ok, I have gone to BlaY0 0.7 since, which I'm positive about.
Then I noticed Blay0's mention of nDAF in the B 0.7 thread, just what I was looking for. (I like anti-social android )
So I've been a happy nDAF 1.7.5 user for 3 weeks now, I can highly recommend it!
Just recently discovered 1 glitch: account sync doesn't seem to do anything! Pressing the button "sync all" has no effect whatsoever. Logcat doesn't seem to output anything related either. Going to my google account and pressing "sync now" also does nothing.
Any ideas?
The account sync problem went away by itself. (I had wiped cache and rebooted before without effect, but it seems the problem went away after my last reboot, though I didn't do anything special)
I guess I'll remain happy with nDAF until I find time to make my own ROM (or if B 0.8 will have very compelling reasons)
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
b.0.7 seems great... u have to flash the patch for wifi issues....
right now i'm on cm7 rc4 and experiencing a new world on legend... but for daily use b.0.7 is a nice choice from my point of view...
and if u want a sense-free froyo rom superbler is the best choice
Long due update:
Thumbs up for BlaY0's 0.8.4!
Did a clean install (wiped all and got a new sd card while at it, with ext partition according to BlaY0's partitioning guide for a2sd) and restored with titanium backup).
I'm getting better battery life (1 long day and still around 30% left with normal use).
Had to use the wifi patch to make wireless work (and stock font patch for comfortable reading).
Highly recommended! Thanks to BlaY0 for the ROM and Ogo2 for his useful mods!
Cheers

Leedroid vs RCMixHD

Hi guys,
I have had my HD for a while now, and have been going back and forth with different roms and what not.
I settled for a Leeddroid HD Gingerbread Beta 4 rom (which works well).
And then I tried the RCmixHD rom (the most complete one as it says)
But I have a problem... when I use the RCmixHD rom, I keep losing signal...
why is that? any clues?
I strongly believe you have a radio issue. Try flashing the recommended radio of the rom. You can find out more in that thread
Yupp.. Different roms recommend different radios.. I experience that too..
Use Leedroid HD 3.0.0
Very nice!
jerrylzy +1.
Just flashed it and it's awesome, also flashed MDJ v6 kernel as Lee recommended, no lags or bugs for me now.
P.S. Never had lost signal issues with RcMix... Try re-flash radio.
Considering that the latest RCMixHD requires the radio found in the 2.16 generic gingerbread rom (or higher radio) that is probably the cause of the issues you're experiencing.
I've used all the major roms, but I found RCMixHD to be the best, but then I put together my own rom, with a lot of items borrowed from the RcMixHD, and CoreDroid, but changed a bunch of things and cleaned up the build.prop and code found in a few other files. nothing too major just a bit cleaner . There was a lot of unneccessary repetition in the build.prop's of the other roms.
JSLDr0iD 4G v1.01 ( driphter.com/index.php?topic=3884.0 )
This is mainly for the North American DHD (Telus DHD/AT&T Inspire 4G and hsupa is enabled) but it works for the euro/asian dhd's as well
The main version is OC's with MDJ V series kernel, but there is a verison with the stock kernel available.
Download is hosted on our server (Driphter.com) and is a fast download as well.
Sorry, but I cant post a direct link until my 8th reply (kinda lame but I guess its tp prevent bots from spamming the forum), so you're going to have to copy and paste into the address bar.
I just flashes the Leedroid 3.0 and I am fully stisfied. I have no signal issues whatsoever. Additionally, i put in the Sense 3.0 lockscreen (unfortunately I'm still not able to customize it or to find out if it is possible ^^)
I was ob Revolution HHD Beta 4 Gingersense before, wich was awesome too. Then I switched to leedroid. 2.3. for overclocking.
would like to know something about this aswell
using the latest leedroid, but I just saw the RCMixHD 6, should I change? Can't be bothered to flash unless it's worth it ha.

The latest batch of RCMixHD v6 has quite a few issues (caused by the sense 3.0 items), mail doesnt work, scene picker doesnt download new scenes properly, and 'skins' does not function at all.
you may want to hold off until the issues (which is more than just the 3 listed) are fixed.

Mail works just fine for me now, version 6.1.0.1
What would you recommend for RCmix? As i'm getting some pretty poor mobile data and GPS signals, wifi is fine, never use bt, but the MD and GPS are pants on my current radio which was superb on the 5.9.7 rom from RCMix.
Any ideas? Oh and to the original question about rc mix or leedroid, it all depends on what you want, personally i prefer rcmix, i've used them since i had a hero when it first came out, they're a good team and make great roms, but to be honest most of the devs on xda and villain are good eggs so like i said it's all down to you and what you want.
Rcmix seems to be more bleeding edge while leedroid is more stable.
In fact the only issue I've encountered with leedroid is stocks app crashing but I usually remove that app anyway.
Sent from my Gingerbread loaded Desire HD.
well using leedroid you do get rcmix crt and things, even it is not credited properly
But the lack of sense 3.0 stuff in leedroid does make it more stable. For people that need their phones to be stable and dont have the time to flash a new rom every day or two.
Capy, even though I love the RCMixHD Rom with where its headed, its something that I can put on the backburner, in regards to use. Even Leedroid has issues that needs to be fixed, there's just not as many at the moment.
I'm still using the stock 2.36, rooted with gingerbreak, as I continue work on my ROM based on it. Did you get my pm regarding the build.prop?
well i am redoing the whole rom, trying to make it different, but i dont know i am getting a bit sick of alot of requests from peopel to do their work so they can release things, and many doesn't credit, and roms popping up all over, so kinda feel maybe it is time for new device dunno yet

Well, I'm simply working on cleaning up htc's code, I dont want to add anything as of yet, other than keeping the power screen from your Rom (that functionality is too much of necessity which I'm surprised isn't part of the official builds). Stock Gingerbread
Hi guys,
So I am currently with stock 2.2.1 and I am thinking of getting the Gingerbread, can anyone tell me what the key benefits are to this update?
Is it a little lighter and may not get bogged down from time to time like my current Froyo?
Anything new or particular exiting to look fwd to?
Thanks,
Jeff

I would suggest you root and install a different firmware if you're up for it. GB is just over all quicker than Froyo.
Thank you very much and sorry but searching somehow never works for me on this forum.

Hi guys,
So I am currently with stock 2.2.1 and I am thinking of getting the Gingerbread, can anyone tell me what the key benefits are to this update?
Is it a little lighter and may not get bogged down from time to time like my current Froyo?
Anything new or particular exiting to look fwd to?
Thanks,
Jeff

Well I also updated stock froyo to stock gingerbread few weeks ago.Hera are the benefits I'm getting with update
1.Alot of RAM saving/maintaining well.
When on froyo,i had to restart phone whenever im going to download something with Firefox browser. If I didn't make out, I can't get full download speed.I tested this.on gingerbread I don't need to make restarts get full download speed.
Also wherever I gonna play big games like gameloft, I make a restart to play the game without single lag.On gingerbread I never made a restart before I play games.Games works without lag.
After I party some games, phone work little bit slow. But on gingerbread, I never felt felt that.
2.Skype (market version, not modded one) video call with front camera work on gingerbread.
3.Good keyboard with Voice To Text feature.
4.Batty saving than Froyo.
Here is the problem
Camera quality isn't like on Froyo Camera.
