I'm trying to change the name of my transformer for what shows up when it's connected to a router. Right now it looks like this: android_xxxxxxx. Any idea on how to change this?
Would like to know as well. I assume this needs root, and changing hostname....

hi. Has anyone connected a 3g internet pen to our asus tf101?
If yes, whats the model of it.
We can use this topic to make a list.
If other tablets using android can do it, I suppose we can do it also.

There's already a thread covering getting 3G modems working here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151097
In short, it can be done with some huawei modems but you may need to change rom and/or wipe the transformer first.
thank you for your answer. i did search, but on my x10 mini pro, that was not a easy nagivation in search results.
i am looking at that tread.
thank you!

it also works to just check the request desktop site box in the settings.

Definitely one of the better features in ICS, no longer have to do the about:debug fix.

You can also use ICS Browser+ from the Market. Gives you the option in settings, and a few other useful things missing from the stock browser.

Thanks !!!

But it goes off every time you close Navigayor. At least on mine So you have to switch it back on every tjme you open it.
I hope asus will solve this issue soon, it looks we 've been forced in a one way like the apple way.
What bloat apps are you all freezing? I see a few I could stand to be rid of... do we have an idea which ones would be safe from the older transformers?

Ive rooted my TF300 and used Root Explorer to move the following out of the /system/app directory...
Asus Reader.apk
Books.apk
Kindle-OEM.apk
MyZine.apk
PixWe.apk
PlusOne.apk
PRAndroid.apk
Vibe_CN.apk
ZinoReader.apk
Have had zero FC or system issues since.
Going to dig a little deeper today and see what other useless apps I can remove.
As a tip, never delete the apk. Just move it to a "bloat" folder on your SD card. This will disable the app but allow you to restore it if you move something you shouldnt.
What about freezing/removing the stock launcher? Anyone else notice the warning after downloading an app that says the screen is full? My apex screen is barren, i tjink stock is harshing on my vibe.

Ya I noticed that warning and noticed it on my phones running ICS too. It still puts a shortcut there tho so I don't know what to make of it.
In Google Playstore settings, uncheck the box that says auto-add widgets for new apps.

I froze the stock launcher after I made my third party launcher the default one.

I tried to freeze maps but after I did, I kept getting a force close/error that maps wasn't working. Another app must be calling on maps or something, anyone know how to get rid of it without this problem?

No need to freeze or uninstall maps.
Yes it may be running, but unless you are signed into latitude (possibly with or without you knowing you are)...its only using memory allocation and will have little or no effect on the battery.
You are in for never ending FC if you keep it froze or uninstalled.

Is there any way of using something like Tasker or even better settings profiles to automate based on whether the tablet is docked or not?
Thanks

I have been wondering the same thing. Sometime soon I'll run logcat to see what intent is called when switching profiles and then see if it can be created in tasker.

Check the market. There are a couple of wireless backup apps. Not exactly sure how good they work though.

My problem is how to find out what the passwords are in about a dozen networks that I log into from time to time.
I need to find out where these passwords are stored on the a500.
Every app I have seen requires root, which I don't have.
At this point I have very little hope I can do this.

1 get a note app
2 save all passwords
3 make a new folder on SD card and put the text files into there
4 look up when needed
