Is there any way of using something like Tasker or even better settings profiles to automate based on whether the tablet is docked or not?
Thanks

I have been wondering the same thing. Sometime soon I'll run logcat to see what intent is called when switching profiles and then see if it can be created in tasker.

I'm trying to change the name of my transformer for what shows up when it's connected to a router. Right now it looks like this: android_xxxxxxx. Any idea on how to change this?
Would like to know as well. I assume this needs root, and changing hostname....

Curious as to how hard it would be to get XBMC running on Android or a Ubuntu build on our TF101s or something of that nature.
From what I understand for Android it needs a rom built from the ground up to make XBMC work with it. I know its possible to run Ubuntu on our TFs, and XBMC is available in an Ubuntu build, so in theory we should be able to get this going I would think.
I'm a noob, not a dev or anyone remotely capable of pulling this off. I'm just someone who sees the amazing potential of XBMC and android devices.
Well that isn't going to happen, or you're willing to pay for it.
This is an good alternative :

I currently have Backtrack 5 running, I'm trying another build of it...just waiting for adb to finish pushing the files.

Not at all!
There are several methods available, I used this:
Check out "Backtrack Installer Free" - http://bit.ly/KCR9N9
This method requires 3 - 4 gigs of space on the SD card directions are straight forward.
Once started it will ask you for the desired screen resolution. I found 1280x745 to be the best fit.
That way BT fits on the screen with no need to scroll its desktop to see top and bottom dock bars.
If you go directly to the BT website you can download another image of BT that seems to be only a gig!
You have to select the arm version, gnome, and img file to get it.
But it is designed to work with the Xoom and needs tweaks to run.
I'm still working on getting this version to boot.....when I have time....

If you install a hide bar app like gesture control you can run it at the full 1280x800

True, but I like having my bar at the bottom. Its my own personal tweak
I'm going to hack the script so I don't even have to enter a resolution.

BT seems very interesting but what does it have to do with XMBC? Could it be run on that?

Well, from the original post:
"Curious as to how hard it would be to get XBMC running on Android or a Ubuntu build on our TF101s or something of that nature."
Backtrack is based off Ubuntu, its running on the TF101. So my response was more on the lines of providing the "something of that nature" option to be explored.

XBMC would need to be compiled for the ARM architecture.

What bloat apps are you all freezing? I see a few I could stand to be rid of... do we have an idea which ones would be safe from the older transformers?

Ive rooted my TF300 and used Root Explorer to move the following out of the /system/app directory...
Asus Reader.apk
Books.apk
Kindle-OEM.apk
MyZine.apk
PixWe.apk
PlusOne.apk
PRAndroid.apk
Vibe_CN.apk
ZinoReader.apk
Have had zero FC or system issues since.
Going to dig a little deeper today and see what other useless apps I can remove.
As a tip, never delete the apk. Just move it to a "bloat" folder on your SD card. This will disable the app but allow you to restore it if you move something you shouldnt.
What about freezing/removing the stock launcher? Anyone else notice the warning after downloading an app that says the screen is full? My apex screen is barren, i tjink stock is harshing on my vibe.

Ya I noticed that warning and noticed it on my phones running ICS too. It still puts a shortcut there tho so I don't know what to make of it.
In Google Playstore settings, uncheck the box that says auto-add widgets for new apps.

I tried to freeze maps but after I did, I kept getting a force close/error that maps wasn't working. Another app must be calling on maps or something, anyone know how to get rid of it without this problem?

No need to freeze or uninstall maps.
Yes it may be running, but unless you are signed into latitude (possibly with or without you knowing you are)...its only using memory allocation and will have little or no effect on the battery.
You are in for never ending FC if you keep it froze or uninstalled.

Trying to figure out which one you guys feel is the best for our tf101. What do you think?

I use friendcaster. It might not be perfect but this is much better than the official Facebook application. The official is very slow and is pretty useless in low network connectivity condition.
Gabriel
Since all of the browsers and apps are terribly glitchy for me, the best solution is using Splashtop HD to remote desktop my computer and view from there... Rather roundabout but it's fast and Doesn't Glitch!
I think there are three real tablet Facebook apps:
FaceDroid (paid app)
Friend Me
Friendcaster.
I'd say Friendcaster is the best one, gives you a very nice Facebook experience with all needed features and a nice UI, plus good widgets.
Definitely not the Facebook app! Too clunky

how is that facedroid app? I heard its pretty good as well. Anyone have any experience with it?

I like facedroid, but I think that fbm is better . But with facedroid if you have a problem or find a bug and report it to the developer, he will E-mail you back within a couple of hours on how to fix your problem or within a week or so you will see an update that fixes that bug.So the great support is worth the money alone. But it does show those pesky game updates in the feed like anyone needs to see that jeff married his cousin on farm ville.Without the games in the feed it would be the best fb app in my opinion.

Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I've never tried friendcaster, but the UI is pretty clean, and fbm has a nearly identical look to the official fb app with the ability to upload pics and post YouTube links and has notification, but it does not crash, and when you open it it just works....best part is when you turn it off it is off and does not use 30 to 50mb of ram all the time like official fb app.

Use the default facebook app or facebook website if you want to see all your friend's posts.
Use third-party apps if you don't mind missing posts, but like the customization.
Remember, third party apps can be blocked by your friends so they not only see your posts, but you don't see theirs either.
Unfortunately, the stock Facebook app is a memory hog, but it works.

Not only is it a memory hog but it kills sleep eating up your battery. So get your friends to allow 3rd party apps to see their posts.

I've been looking for one too that works 100%, I love the look of Friendcaster Pro and have been using it for 6+ months but it screws up a lot and either doesn't post my comments/status updates or when I try and load something it will be like "Friendcaster received an invalid response from Facebook". The notification Window annoys me on the official app because it's so tiny and only shows about three or four things, not to mention I still can't figure out how to share things from it. Is it even possible to do so?
I'll give Facedroid a try and see how it is.

Friendcaster is good.
Using Firefox beta (v14) with agent set as Desktop/ipad is also good enough. (Desktop-like interface)
Siri Proxy allows you to control additional devices with a Siri device. So I thought there must be something similar available for Android.:fingers-crossed:So we can also control our garages with Android devices

I have been wanting something like this as well.
To have an application to do this though, you would have to have two parts two it.
First part would be an app on your Android device, and the other part would be something that runs on a computer @ the house.
Reason for this is because you would want a secure connection between your phone and the app. Otherwise, anyone/everyone would be able to access your home automation system.
If there is anything like this, that would be awesome, but I don't think there is
The closest thing you can get to it is HomeSeer, but it isn't voice activated. It's only buttons.
If anyone knows of a program that would do voice activation home automation, please let me know!
