Hey guys, can anyone tell me why my radio .zip file, the latest package, I got off of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 won't flash for me in recovery or update? I followed the steps but it doesn't work for some reason? Any help or insight? Thanks.

Why do you like ra better? Seems like a lot of people say that but I've never really had a problem with cwm.
Thoughts?

What is RA?? I'm kind of new?
Amon ra is just a different type of recovery. You can flash it from the clockwork menu by selecting flash alternate recovery.

The problem people report with Clockwork is it does not not wipe properly.
From my understanding ,CWM won't flash radios via Recovery. You have to use the pc36img.zip version.
Amon Ra is just better. You should switch.

What do you mean, I have to use pc36img.zip version? Kind of new? I don't understand. I have CWM, installed by unrevoked3. I don't know how to switch to another recovery interface. Can you give me steps for flashing to a different recovery? And steps to what I would need to do to update my radios, without messing with the rom I have installed? Thanks

U can flash an alternate recovery from RM,just go to where it says " alternate recovery" and flash RA after that just go into recovery and flash ur radio.

okay, so switch to RA from Rom Manager, and then I'll just do everything through the recovery and no longer use ROM Manager/CWM?
I was about to Flash new radios and a Kernal, but it seems like I'm unable to do so in CWM according to what you guys said (without renaming it to the "stock" pc36 name?
About to Flash RA from Rom Manager and give it a go.

How is the Kernal working out for you? Running MikG 1.03 as well here. Decent battery etc?
Also, pretty new at this but trying to get up to speed quickly, so thanks for your help - How did you update the PRL? I'm on 2.15.00.1.19?
Thanks man
I used the combo file in Calkukin's thread (in the Dev section). My battery on 1,03 is worse than on 1.02, so far, but you have to remember that anytime you flash a new ROM, you need to give it a day or 2 to let the kernel "settle in."
A lot of people are saying to downgrade PRI to version 1.77 and that will help, but I'm resisting doing that for now.

Does anyone know if I can get the recovery image for the 2.1 ROM Sprint test that was released yesterday?
recovery images are all the same, its independent of the rom. so you'd want to use Amon RA's 1.6.2 recovery.
seriously, please use the sticky wikis!

I tried using that, but when I go to flash it (using command prompt), it says "flash_image: not found"..anyone know what I can do? I'm trying to root my phone back so I can get Damageless 2.1 back as my apps are not showing up in the market for this test release..

Doesn't work..by the way, I'm using the RUU .exe 2.20.651.1 signed release.
is it possible to switch to another custom recovery after I already got clockworks?
I tried unrevoked but its stuck in the reboot (I believe its trying to root my aria again)
not sure what youre trying to do.... i believe Clockwork is the only Recovery for rooted phones. if you want to flash a custom ROM, well that is something else altogether. please be specific as to what you want to flash to the phone. include a link to the flash too
I was trying to flash psfreedom recovery rom from here
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I believe the method on that website was for unrooted arias without clockworks

To flash a different custom recovery on your Aria, you need to rename the zip file LIBEIMG.ZIP on the SD card and boot in HBOOT (Power on the phone by holding down VOL DOWN and the Power Button). When it boots to the HBOOT screen you should see text stating that it found LIBEIMG.ZIP and is installing it.
awesome. now before I go ahead, is there any clockworkx recovery image I can revert back to?

I'm curious, what recovery are you talking about?
thanks for including the link. the instructions are clear.... Root IS required, Clockwork recovery is recommended, the Freedom Aria flash appears to be a custom ROM.
once the phone is Rooted, boot into Recovery, make a Nandroid backup, and flash downloaded zip file from SD card.
if you need help Rooting, there is all sorts of good methods available on this site. I use the Unrevoked method myself, but it works best on Linux or Mac OS

hmm I think you are looking at the old method which is a custom rom
The new one is a custom recovery which brings me to the question as I dont think you can flash a custom recovery in the clockwork custom recovery.
its possible im looking at the wrong thing, but far as i can tell it states "Recovery Custom ROM" which is totally different from Custom Recovery ROM
From link posted above:
"Update can be installed in recovery mode in Psfreedom settings menu via Update (local) or Update (net) if you have configured your wifi connection. Put the file on your SDCARD and install it.
Download Recovery custom rom : http://alephzain.klutsh.com/aria-recovery.tgz "

I have similar questions. I was trying to update my version of clockwork also using unrevoked again, but couldn't get it to work. I guess my questions are:
1. Is there any benefit in updating to a newer version of clockwork? My current version is 2.0.x.x and I believe the latest one is 2.5.0.4.
2. Will this same method work to do so? Can I rename the latest clockwork .zip file like this and get it updated?
I thought using the flash clockwork option in ROM Manager would do it, but it doesn't. If I reboot from ROM Manager it goes to the newer version, but if I reboot otherwise it goes to my original. The couple times I've used it, there appears to be maybe some different features/options in the newer one and I feel like I might be missing out on something!
What's the difference with this recovery?

These are probably two different things. once you got the recovery rom flashed you can upgrade it in recovery mode (hence its different from original clockwork recovery)
Ok bro, I didn't see much info about it so I'm gonna take your word for it.
@brswattt, far as I can tell this is " basically" used for jailbreaking the ps3.
@armyengineer;
you can use unrEVOked to flash the new recovery. if youre a Windows user, download the unrEVOked tool and run the .exe as Administrator. also make sure there are no conflicting s/w on the PC such as HTC Sync and you have all the drivers installed(HBoot, ADB drivers, etc.)
for more info about the PSFreedom Recovery, check out THIS Thread HERE
unrevoked keeps giving me
couldnt find misc
error, is there any other way to flash a recovery?

This still isn't working for me. Everything appears to go well at the start, then I get:
Waiting for root...(safe to restart if this doesn't work)
At which point the only way I can restart is to pull my battery. After doing so, it reboots and I get:
This was a triumph
It is not, however, any such thing. After another minute I get this:
Internal error: couldn't find misc.
So I've still got my original version of clockwork, 2.0.1.3, despite the fact that ROM Manager is telling me I have 2.5.0.1. I'm obviously missing something here.
BTW, if it matters I'm running CM 6.1.0

Although there is a ClockworkMod 2.5.0.4 version, I don't think it is for the Aria. According to ClockworkMod ROM Manager, 2.5.0.1 is the most current one for the Aria so I am believing what ROM Manager is telling me since it is written by the same the vendor.
I have tried CM 6.1.0
original HTC Aria 2.1 International Rom
and FR001 RC1
all no go. I think it has something to do with the phone already been rooted and has clockworks installed which makes unrevoked unhappy

OK, let's start from the beginning. You asked about installing an alternate recovery (PSFreedom recovery), but apparently it has its own installation procedure that needs to be run on an unrooted Aria.
What you need is to find just the PSFreedom recovery and copy it to your SD called in a file called LIBEIMG.ZIP and that is how you need to install it on a root phone that has ClockworkMod. Perhaps you need to go back to the PSFreedom thread and ask if a LIBEIMG.ZIP can be produced that can be flashed from HBOOT to replace ClockworkMod.
Looks like everything you need is located in the PSFreedom wiki:
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I got a recovery.bin which is suppose to be used with unrevoked.
are you talking about the same one if I just compress it into a zip file?
So my phone got the 2.3.1 ota, however I am rooted and have clockwork flashed. It would not install the ota and now I no longer have the option to install it. What do I need to do to go back to stock, and once stock how do I get the ota? Any help?

that im not sure of, because 2.3.1 is only a partial update, if you where to flash a full ROM it would overwrite the Recovery
If you put a stock image back on your phone, it should re-flash to the stock recovery on the first boot.
The recovery, at least on the N1 is included with the stock ROM's system.img.
Edit: I think it is /system/recovery-from-boot.p, at least /etc/install-recovery.sh seems to imply that, but I haven't had a massive look, I'm about to leave for work.
Edit 2: Grrrr to vBulletin making me wait 5 mins to edit a post as a new user, grrr -- it's not a new post, so not spam!
I was sort of in the same boat, then I flashed the nandroid backup of 2.3.1 from the development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093
It will also replace CWR with stock recovery and will apparently do this every time the phone reboots, but you can still have root.
so...
Ok, so is it safe to say that the best thing to do is to flash the 2.3.1 nandroid from the other post then and then go back to clockwork?

yup. and rename the boot install script so that clockwork stays and isnt replaced with stock recovery at reboot.

So, he's running a custom ROM right now, the latest desire hd port, GB, etc.
Well, most everything else needs CWM 3.006 or whatever. So, I'm trying to flash that. BUT, his phone acts as if he doesn't have root. I't S-offed and has "su" (the app) but it just doesn't work.
Tried flashing cwm with fastboot, "permission denied"
Idk what else to do

i dont think you can flash using fastboot in .86.
if it wont boot to the rom try the PD15IMG.zip file to restore
if it boots to the rom, go back to the true s-off/permroot guide in the development section and flash your bootloader (there is directions at the bottom of the first post (the post with the instructions))
After that it should work for fastboot
You can alternatively flash recovery through rom manager (off of the market..the free version will do)

So, I'm going to flash the ROM, hope for the best, then if $*&^ hits the fan, I'll result to flashing a diff bootloader.

have you tried using TrueBlue's recovery .zip it was the only way I could get either of my phones to take 3.0.0.6
HERE is the thread for it
Well, I flashed regardless of the 3006 req, and it went fine... Whatever lol.
thanks for the help and suggestions

Are you on stock ka6?
If yes, you won't be able to reinstall packages without modding the recovery first. Or the method I prefer is flashing another kernal.
If you're not on ka6, sometimes you have to reinstall packages twice in a row for it to work.
yeah, stock froyo came with the 3e recovery, which needs to be modified to install the CWR zip. There is a link in my noob guide for this on rooting stock froyo... or you could try searching the dev section..... or you could use the ALT METHOD in the noob guide. lots of choices.
went to the dev section and it was already on the first page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Yea I have tried that method and I am running into the same problem that the last person posted. It says it is booting into cwr then reloads just to come back to the stock recovery
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
then use my ALT METHOD in the noob guide.
Just flash ka6 stock + voodoo with odin.
Sounds scary, but trust me it's the easiest way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
You need to learn to use odin anyways if you want cm7
Thanks for all the ideas, somehow after just messing around I got it to work, no clue how lol
