Are you on stock ka6?
If yes, you won't be able to reinstall packages without modding the recovery first. Or the method I prefer is flashing another kernal.
If you're not on ka6, sometimes you have to reinstall packages twice in a row for it to work.

yeah, stock froyo came with the 3e recovery, which needs to be modified to install the CWR zip. There is a link in my noob guide for this on rooting stock froyo... or you could try searching the dev section..... or you could use the ALT METHOD in the noob guide. lots of choices.
went to the dev section and it was already on the first page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

Yea I have tried that method and I am running into the same problem that the last person posted. It says it is booting into cwr then reloads just to come back to the stock recovery
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

then use my ALT METHOD in the noob guide.

Just flash ka6 stock + voodoo with odin.
Sounds scary, but trust me it's the easiest way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
You need to learn to use odin anyways if you want cm7

Thanks for all the ideas, somehow after just messing around I got it to work, no clue how lol

If I used the one click method to root would it be possible to unroot with this app if needed? Or would I have to use the unrooting method that came with the one click root?
Flash a pre rooted kernel. This forum is full of them, or look in the sticky wiki for a rooted stock rom.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't flash a rom unless yo are already rooted so this would not work. Right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, you can flash a rooted rom without being rooted, however you need clockwork recovery.
Sent from my spot on the earth.
Don't you need root or a computer to install clockwork?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Download rom manager, then use rom manager to download clockwork mod, then use astro which is a free app available in the market which is very useful, to open the sd card folder, then go to clockwork mod folder then copy recovery-update.zip and paste it to the root of your sd card and rename it just update. It's already a zip file so you don't have to type.zip. Now reboot into stock recovery and apply update.zip. Does not work with froyo. But if you down load the clockwork redirect, then you can install that once you get into clockwork recovery after you flash a froyo rom before you reboot. But using adb to flash the permanent clockwork kernel is the best way.....try this......update.zip method:
1. boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
2. Apply : http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/clockworkmod2.5.1.0update-fixed.zip

Samsung Vibrant 2.2 dont get clockwork green

Hey, I just rooted my vibrant with Superoneclick and backed it up with Titanium. Then I downloaded ROM Manager and clicked flash clockwork mod recovery and then clicked reboot into recovery. But I get the blue text even after clicking reinstall packages two times. Could someone please help me I'm new at this.
I think 2.2 has a locked bootloader. Use ODIN to go back to stock 2.1 and then root and use CWM recovery. After that you can flash whatever you like.
Use this guide here and you will be alright.
Doesn't have a locked bootloader. Make sure update.zip got put on your sdcard in the root directory.
If not you can use the one I've linked.

You can just use Odin to flash a voodoo kernel. Did the same on my girlfriends phone this weekend and that solved.

Stock rooted deodexed rom

Is it just me or are there no stock rooted deodex or odex roms of the latest OTA that i can flash??
The process to go from a custom rom to the stock ota.. then reroot... then do what ever seems odd given every other android device i have used or flashed for friends seem to always have a stock rooted rom.
Why nothing for the acer that i can flash right from cwm? Like a zip or something.

Obviously you don't read the development forum. It's super easy for 3.1. Just search the forum for rooting 3.1 download the apk and press root. Then download acer recovery from Android market. Once inside the app click install CWM
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Then hit reboot into recovery. Once in CWM go to backup and restore and restore currunt Rom. After you restored go to restore current Rom to insure the device can read your memory card, if you can find it then you are good to go.
After you have downloaded a custom Rom install it on your SD card. Then boot into CWM by powering off and power back on by holding power button and -vol. Once inside go to install zip, and make sure you can see the custom Rom before wiping anything. If you see it the wipe data, cache, system, battery status, dalvik cache. Then install the zip.

why would i ask for a stock rooted rom if i wasnt already rooted....?
you didn't even read what i asked for did you..... seriously did you? no not even one word. all you saw was stock rooted rom and went off on tissy about something i already did 5 minutes after i opened the box.
i am rooted, and already flashed thru 4 different roms to find one i like and frankly, i am fine with stock until someone else makes one more to my liking.
i said that it seems odd not to have a stock deodexed rooted rom available to flash.
i dont need anyone to tell me how to root/flash this thing, nor did i even remotely ask for such help, i asked a simple enough question of why go thru all the download the OTA, decrypt it, take the update file flash it, then reroot it, then do whatever...
why not just have a Stock_rooted_Deodexed_1.xxx.xx.xx.zip as a flashable zip. like just about every other device on this website.
you spent alot of time typing out all that for no reason had you read a little more of what i typed and was asking for.
i have tried to cool stuff before but cant get things to work on my system and i ended up giving up and trying to mod roms and repost them here, otherwise i would be happy to make a stock rooted deodexed rom to flash.
so, in the end the question still remains is there any particular reason why all these OTA updates have been released and yet no one has made a stock rooted rom to flash via recovery?
it also eliminates the possibilities of screwing up a flash to stock, or flashing to stock and then not being able to root, or not being able to install CWM
Best you'll get is something like HoneyVillian

[q] help please...

hi all,
I have recently got a samsung galaxy s GT-I9000.
firmware version is 2.2 stock.
now here's what i did.
1. i rooted the phone.
2. downloaded rom manager.
3. via rom manager, i flashed clockworkmod recovery.
now, when i restart in recovery mode, it starts in stock recovery, i.e.. does not enter the CWM recovery menu. i selected the option, install update.zip from internal memory, i get error.
i want to flash a custom rom but cant get CWM on my phone. can someone point out what am i missing. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
Read an educate yourself.
Try search.. it's really easy!
As to the why:
The original recovery won't allow the use of unsigned zips in recovery..
The very quick how..
Copied from another thread on this page:
use Odin to flash this Speedmod kernel if you are on Froyo. If you are on Gingerbread flash the TalonDev kernel using the v2.2 tar
(Thanks @rschenk)
How to use Odin???
Trust me, if you don't know, you should really educate yourself a bit. You can find many tutorials in q&a.. most of the time as sticky post. (As 10000 or so have asked the exact same question.)

Update to ei22 from any rom with root, cwm, and modem without a pc

This will work without a pc only if you are on ec05 modem, if not get your ass there
So since I'm in the process of moving without my desktop and have no acess to a pc. I updated to gb fairly easily with cwm and root.
This can be done with any rom.
if you mess up and let it boot at the 2 points I tell you not to, then you can get stuck with stock GB without root or cwm.
You will have the modem on the bright side!
I stated off with RandomRom, but you can be on any as long as you have the ec05 modem.
1. Download what you are goingto need,(the acs cwm is your choice.) Thanks to thoes who orginaly posted these files.
1a. the stock ec05 rom with the green cwm 3.1.0.1 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904
1b. EXTtoRFS found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9992367/gotorfs.zip
1c. The ec05 to ei22 update zip found here: http://android.clients.google.com/p...a5ff039a0c97.SPH-D700_update_EC05_to_EI22.zip
1d. Su.zip found here: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip
1e. Acs cwm (optional) found here: http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=Epic/ACSRecovery/
2. After the files are on your phone make sure your on ec05 modem.
3. Boot into cwm doesn't matter I believe what one you have I started with acs's cwm.
4. if you are not on Rfs flash the zip to get there.
5. wipe everything 3x.
6. Flash the stock rfs ec05 rom.
7. Once finished reboot, as soon as you select reboot use the 3 finger to get back to recovery (do not let it fully boot). You should be back to the green cwm 3.1.0.1
8. Install the ec05 to ei22 zip just like any rom, I didn't wipe **** this time.
9. When finished flash the acs cwm or any flashable version you want.
Rebot the phone in cwm while holding the 3 buttons to go back to cwm(do not let it fully boot).
10. Once in cwm either acs's or any you flashed, flash the su.zip to obtain root.
11. Reboot and let your phone power up. You should now have ei22 with modem, cwm, and root.
Hope this helps somene or makes updating easier for you!

Most clear and concise guide so far. Well done!
Thanks I live in B.F.E. Ohio and didn't want to wait to have GB with root and cwm, and without a pc I was lucky it worked!

Crap... i rebooted my phone after the update and now im unrooted >_>
Yeah, I'm a retard. Rebooted without installing su. Now I have stock recovery and can't root.
Tried renaming su to update.zip but it failed.
Am I out-of-luck until I can get to a pc? Maybe I'll go home "sick"...

I would assume so. I ll update main post warning a little more about not letting it fuly reboot at the 2 points.

I tried gingerbreak on the nanoid version of ei22 yesterday and couldn't get it to root. Might be my phone, but that's the only other way I know to root then use cwm app to install cwm 3.1.0.1
Worth a try

Gingerbreak's exploit apparently has been blocked since 2.3.3, so it isn't your phone, it's the rom. You'll have to odin cwm when you can get to your pc, then boot into recovery and flash nubernel or a comparable slightly modified custom kernel *before* normal booting for the first time - otherwise, you'll lose cwm due to a script in the stock kernel that reflashes stock recovery.
For root, I'd recommend flashing the su zip in recovery, may as well do that after flashing the custom kernel. You can find the necessary downloads in one of the how-to threads that have popped up today, I'm sure they'll be easy to find for at least a few weeks
I hope this helps clear up some confusion

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
This worked for the ROM and root, but now all I have is stock recovery. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get CWM back?
Ok, after a subsequent battery pull, I lost root. It was all an easy fix after doing some research. Basically, I used ODIN to flash the keyfix kernel. After a re-boot, I used ODIN to flash the ACS recovery. After booting into recovery, I flashed the su.zip. I now have root and ACS recovery. I even did a battery pull and it still works.
