How is it for you owners on tethering when your out and about ? Is it annoying you have to turn on your wifi on the mobile and then turn it off again ? Is there a big drain on battery life on your mobiles ?
I am about to buy the asus but concerned with the hassel of using it outside with no 3g built in and relying on my Nesux One.
Also does the USB port on the keyboard dockcharge other plugged in device ?
Sorry if any of this has been asked before.
Tethering my TF was actually really annoying until I started using an app called AutoTether, which lets me turn the access point on my N1 on and off from the tablet. It's kind of like a remote control for tethring, and it really makes things much easier. Still kills my phone's battery life, but not as much as if I had the hotspot on all the time.
Seams great on my Galaxy sii, but only tested it at home for 30 min. Will be testing for longer and away from home soon.
Well I took the plunge and purchased the transformer last week from Comet online, very impressed, however the unit had a dead pxiel right in the middle of the screen so I am awaiting for an exchange but now I have just read the 3g is coming out in August so the question is should I now return and order the 3g version ? Or really it makes no difference if you tether.
Normally I always bring usb cable and while tethering I connect the usb cable so that the TF&dock will charge my phone.

I use my Evo4g to thether and I just keep it pluged into the Transformer. It works all day and the transformer and the phone never drop below %100

Mine came with about 50% charge on it, but your mileage may vary.
Mine came with no charge at all (completely dead) and someone elses email and ebooks configured and configured for Staples in store wifi...
I think they were playing with it a bit. Works fine now, I deleted all that crap.
My two came with about 50% charge as well. Enough to play with for a while, but you shouldn't let the battery get very low before charging it, as its not good for the battery service life.

Mine came with 90% charge
Normally comes around 40% +- storage/shelf life is best at that charge. So short answer , charge it.
Mine came with 50% charge......according to the manual...first charge should be for four hours...

Mine came with enough power to tell me to charge it.
I plugged it in and continued the fun.
I figured I would do a real world test using the new Lenovo ThinkPad tablet. I used it most of the day with the screen on auto. Used web browsing, YouTube, Loaded some apps, and read a magazine in Zino app. After 11 hours and 20 minutes I have 16% left. So this is on par with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10. This will get me all do use of the ThjnkPad tablet.

I am also looking for a good baterry life Tablet.. this helped me.
thanks.
My ThinkPad Tablet has also very good battery life!
One day is no problem at all (surfing, one movie, youtube, music, kindel magazine)!!
I also have no problem getting through an entire day with my Thinkpad Tablet. Love it!
The past two days my TPT was chaging very slowly. Even after 8 hours it wouldnt charge. Today I restored the tablet and it charged from 75% to full very quickly. Just wondering what might of caused this. No new programs added. Never had this problem with my Samsung Galaxy Tab. Hopefully this won't be a issue down the road

Can we get a forum for this tablet?
I just purchased the 64GB model that includes the stylus from Buy.com for $602 with free shipping! Was the best price I could find.
Now the wait....
Thats a great price for a 64GB TPT.

just ok not that good
Curious????
Why does every tablet have a page on xda except for the Thinkpad Tablet?
Thats a great price for a 64GB TPT. I cannot agree with you anymore
Sadly my battery life seems to be very bad (Thinkpad 32GB).
After about 4-5h its down to 10% - and it seems to just stay or only be loading very slow when having it plugged in to usb while using it, or leaving it with display off. (2-3% after 1h loading). It is faster if I turn it off but I still wonder if this is a bug or whatever.
Can anyone confirm that problem so far? (or would it just make sense to restore it somehow or whatever?)
Realy hope for a forum about this tab soon - besides the battery, the market (where I just can not find a few apps like youtube that ...) and the fact that its pritty heavy - It really seems to be a great tab but Battery sucks atm
Thanx in advance,
H
I get 20+ HOURS on one charge I do usual usage with most of time spent on sketchbook pro

Interesting in that test.

Inking I can easily make through the entire day with no problem and still have a good 60% left. Of course this using the TPT on and off through out the day at work.

Thanks for the info. I am wanting to use the TPT for university study next year, and for viewing lecture notes (PDF) and marking them up with my own notes.
thanks again

I have the same issue. I'm going to reset it to see if th eproblem will be solved....
I just called lenovo support. and the aswer is that you have to turn off the tabled to charge it. WTF???
Love love love the new update, but I didn't find anybody talking about not have the battery usage data in the settings-battery section. Mine just keeps saying not available. Anybody else seeing that or is it just me?

Yup same here. I updated early yesterday morning.
My speculation is that ICS uses a different algorithm for calculating battery usage, and it may require more data points... So maybe we are simply not using it long enough.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
No, Asus just didn't (yet?) implemented it. It was the same with HoneyComb, battery usage was added very late in the process while Xoom users had it from the beginning. It probably requires a lot of work to get ported or sth.
Are you using the dock?
+1 same probleme, and for me the dock won't charge, but when I plug AC in dock it charge the TF101..? You think it's wrong upgrade or battery breack?

Are you sure the dock isn't charging?
Because there is no dock batt indicator in the ICS update, I check my dock batt level with Dual Battery Widget.
You can try to reflash the update and do a full wipe.
The dock firmware wasn't updated and i guess it's the source of many problems, including the battery status not being available.
Me too and no dock here.
Yep.
It's the same as early honeycomb. Let's play the waiting game
Thanks for the replies guys, helps to know I'm not just doing something wrong.

Yea also here but I don't mind every where I go if have a charger with me so I dont bother but still it's better then have a half working version of ICS then a version thats a little limeted without bugs
Why there is no 3G model for this tablet, aside from the beautiful display 3G is a breaking point for me. I could use USB modem but it uses the same port used for charging so it won't be so practical. Any ideas if Google might or might not introduce a 3G model later as it did with the nexus 7?
Sent from my JW101A using xda app-developers app
I think they will introduce a 3g modal. But for now just tether with your phone!:
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda premium
I agree. 3G + SDXC support would have made this tablet a market killer.
I don't want to pay for a separate sim card when I can tether to my s3 on a 3 unlimited data plan. Besides prob not taking mine out of the house much, when I get it.

Buy a MIFI which gives you 3g without using the USB port at no more cost than waiting for the 3g version to arrive.
You will also get better reception with a MIFI for it is designed to do just that and you can place it in the best place to get a good signal and use the tablet where it is most comfortable.
If you own a laptop or other tablet then you can use the MIFI as a hotspot for those as well.
It also means your tablet can be used when your phone is not nearby to tether.

MIFI devices normally have batteries fitted and some have a display showing signal strength and the amount of data downloaded so you can keep an eye on cost.
Check out Amazon which have a good selection,

Thanks for the info, do you know what kind of battery life to expect on them? Would it cover a 3 hour train journey for example?

You should have no problem finding a MIFI with a battery that lasts -3-hours.
I plan on using my n7 as my home phone, i will also attach a speaker to it so that it is loud enough to be heard throughout my home.
I have a question to anyone that uses their n7 heavily throughout the day, have u run into any issues by leaving your n7 powered on for more than 6-8 hours? like i said i plan on using it as my home phone, and it will be powered on for a long period of time and, it will mostly be on stand by. screen off with wifi on and talkatone in the background awaiting any important phone calls.
any positive inputs would be appreciated
I leave my n7 on all the time with the Wi-Fi and GPS radios always on and have hardly any issues.
If l realize that I have not rebooted it in several days, I'll reboot it - though I honestly don't remember ever needing to reboot it other than when messing with the recovery, or installing a kernel.
While it's setting there with the screen off with Wi-Fi and GPS on it seems to only use 1 to maybe 2 percent of the battery per hour.
