I have a free app on the market that uses the front facing camera. It currently supports OS 2.3, and OS 2.2 for Sprint and Motorola devices. Can someone direct me to other resources for enabling the front camera on other devices (so I can stop hearing what's not supported)?
G2X, Dell Streak, Galaxy S, ...
Thanks

i know this seems stupid but i like the OS from xperia x10, is there anyway i can get the X10 os on the g2?
Some parts would actually be really good idea. They have the particular bits that I would love to have Timescape, facial recognition camera programming, and maybe Mediascape if it actually does anything.
Maybe when they release 2.2 for it, but by that time we'll already have gingerbread.
which brings us to another question is it possible to load and older OS on the g2

There's a discussion of the q&a subfourm about loading 1.6 onto the g2
Basically if you want an older version of android for speed it won't help

Hi Android people,
Right now i have a Lg Incite (CT810) running Windows Mobile 6.5x and to be honest windows mobile hacking is really dieing because of the new windows phone 7 and etc, so I'm switching to Android. A phone that I've really been looking at is the Motorola Backflip however, is the phone any good? I've been hearing issues about At&t having control over it and it not being able to install third-party apps.
PS: I am experience with smart phone flashing
you should go here for it

or here

ty for the info! now I'm sure about switching over to android.
Quick Question i was doing my homework on the BackFlip and it doesn't seem that there is a Gingerbread 2.3 update for it, is there?
I don't think so. Unless someone ports it from the 2.3 gingerbread sources to the backflip. Or when motorola comes out with it

Well that sucks, porting things to a device is way too hard. I guess I'll have to wait on Motorola (if they ever do it).
Thanks
Well if u can wait till late january early february at&t is going to be selling the motorola olympus, which contains a dual core processor, front facing camera, 8mp camera, and shipping with android 2.2 with motoblur

Will that be able to be updated to gingerbread 2.3?
I've had one since Sept and I've successfully added third pary apps. You need to set usb debugging ona moto app. I can't find the address, but it's easy to google. Using moto apps, you can install anything; it overrides the phone settings and installs from your computer. You'll have to have the phone connected bu USB cable for it to work. Sorry I don't have the links available.
Heey, I've seen a few threads on various sites about installing front facing cameras on certain phones (mainly the Samsung Galaxy S). But I also noticed that in the guides it requires you to downgrade the ROM on your device. Is it possible to install a FFC on an HD2 and run it with Android?
Phone: HTC HD2
Running: Android 2.3.2
Carrier: O2-UK

The SGS has a built in front facing camera? Doesn't it?
I believe there were some which were manufactured without one for some reason. Here's the youtube video I saw of someone installing it.
Cant post links cus im a new user, but if you search youtube for "Samsung Galaxy installing front facing camera" it will come up
There is no possibility to add front camera to HD2.
Dear all, we just manage to release What's My Heart Rate ver 1.5, with attempt to fix on HTC EVO 4G with sense and HTC EVO 4G with CM7.
It is an app, which uses camera to detect face micro color changes, and calculate your heartbeat based on micro color changes.
As we hardly can get such device right in our country, we drop by here, to see whether we can have any volunteer beta tester (HTC EVO 4G) on our app.
We hope someone may try to run the app on HTC EVO 4G with sense, and HTC EVO 4G with CM7
If the app able to run successfully on your HTC EVO 4G device, let us know right here. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whats-My-Heart-Rate/289768547756578. If it isn't, please also let us know through the facebook page.
If you have problem in using the app on your device, we would be very appreciate that you let us know through facebook page instead of Android Market comment. This would make our communication easier as Android Market doesn't provide facility to respond to your comment.
Thanks!
The app can be downloaded right here : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vitrox.facion.gui
Do you guys (and gals) think that LG will release the laser auto focus apk so that ROM developers can include the feature into all the roms they want? Or do you think LG will hoard the laser auto focus feature and not allow anyone else to enjoy the bliss that is Lazer Auto!?
Im asking in terms of the future. Will they? Has LG ever released apks of features to allow others to enjoy them? (im inexperienced in this realm so sorry if my language is off)
Laser focus work. The problem in aosp camera is that a big part of the quality depends on the lg framework and drivers, which are closed source and they're not going to release.
