Samsung Mobile Forum - Galaxy S I9000 General

Anyone know how to get into the Samsung forum or even where it is.
There site would win an award for the crappyist site on the internet. I've been searching it for over half an hour and still can't fined it.
I've a pain in my left one waiting for these morons to launch the Gingerbread update on the SGS I9000
I wanted to see if we where going to get the update before I retire in 25 years time.
I tried the z4root (Temporary Root) and nothing happened. I don't want to do a permanent root and get locked out of Keis just as Gingerbread becomes available.
The phone is lagging something terrible and I need to fix it. I installed Dolphin Browser and love the interface and how it all works but its un-usable it the phone just hangs when using it.
I love the phone but I'm really starting to get major pissed off with it and Samsung.

Rooting the phone has nothing to do with updating via Kies. I've updated my rooted phone twice using Kies.

I thought once you root the phone it no longer updates via Keis??
I tried a temp root using z4root and nothing happened. I looked like it was doing it then the phone went back to the normal screen and no superuser or anything?
I haven't tried the Permanent Root yet as I'm not sure it won't brick my phone.

It's Kies, not Keis. Root with Superoneclick. And no, root doesn't affect the updating with Kies.

OK I have rooted my Phone using the steps here
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-darkyrom-gingerbread-jvh-noob-friendly.3080/
But I have not installed the Darky Rom
I installed Ficeto_JVH_Odin and it is now rooted with this but my Gmail won't sync.
If someone sent me an email it would come in instantly.
I have sent myself 4 test emails and none of them have come in.
The update has made the phone much faster but I really need to get my emails to sync again as I have 8 email address that I use all the time.
I have also lost the swype keyboard.
Any help please. Here is the new details on the phone.
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000XXJVO
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813 / [email protected] #Dark_core_2.3
Build: Darky.Deodexed.XWJVH

Just installed the darky 10.1 on my system and its fantastic.
The phone is bombing along. Done a benchmark on it and its coming out on top.
Even got the chance to show it off to friends with standard sgs

Use Kies Mini, its the Samsung recommended method to update.

I know i can use kies mini because i dont know if i will get the froyo ota. Maybe you can use kies mini when froyo comes out.

If not then they will issue a new Kies Mini specifically for Froyo. Either way I wouldn't worry about it.

Fully Bricked?

I fully bricked my vibrant by using 2.3 bootloaders and flashing back to stock 2.1 without flashing eclair/froyo bootloaders first (duh) to update through kies to 2.2. It would not power on at all. I sent it to mobiletechvideos.com in Texas and within a week my vibrant was jtagged and now the wife is using it with no issues at all. The service was only $50.00 and well worth the cost and wait as the vibrant is good as new to flash, flash away! Thanks Josh!
You could've done it by yourself

let me understand:
you flashed 2.1 by clockwork mod? because my last time i flashed 2.1 through odin, without changing the bootloader first.
I flashed through odin to 2.1 then I was using kies to update to 2.2 but I should have flashed 2.2 bootloaders before using kies. I should have fully explained myself...sorry.

You should have just never used kies
woa... i flashed 2.1 with odin on an older phone that i sold ( it was with cm7). hope the new owner didnt used kies to upgrade o.0 but has been to long and no complain lol
Stay away from kies mini.. Hardbricked me too. Jtag repaired fixed all but now Ive learned my lesson.

[Q] Lost Root?

I seem to have lost root out of the blue. I hadn't done any updates, and I'm not sure how I lost it at all. ClockWork Mod loads fine, but I have no busybox or root access. Was there a firmware update released within the last week?
What rom are you running?

Running totally stock with the most recent (To my knowledge) OTA. I did an SBF about 2 months ago and rooted after that. When I looked in superuser, the last entry of an allowed program was for the 23 of October. I dont know what happened between then and now, but I had lost root.
Since posting, I did a re-root using the Droid3 root. It obviously took care of it, but I'm still quite clueless as to why this happened.

I believe your phone automatically installed the most recent OTA in that time, causing you to lose root.

If you were rooted and then updated, the su app would remain but root would not. You need to remove the su app before being able to use the one click root.
If you restart and sbf, update before rooting.

That's the thing. To my knowledge it hadn't updated at all. Unless it updated without me knowing...

It quite possibly might have. The latest SBF file is .602 and the latest OTA is .605.
What system version are you running?

It must have then. I'm running. 605. Never even knew.

same thing happened to me. the only thing i did was uninstall the SU file then re-root with the D3 one-click. has worked just fine since 10/22.

Maybe because its updated to froyo. Try to use another way of rooting for froyo only perhaps.
Try the stock rom to see if that helps

Help Unrooting (Rooted with motochopper)

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Samsung S4 (GT-9505) using motochopper, but since discovered some of my apps don't work with a rooted device.
I would like to unroot it back to factory settings.
What do I need to do? Is it a case of downloading an official ROM and using ODIN to flash the official bios back on?
I have reset the counter with TRIANGLE but my device status is still 'custom' and not official.
Is there a simple way of removing the root that motochopper adds or is an official ROM the only way?
Im in the UK and would like to flash to the latest Vodafone ROM and unrooted as new.
Many thanks
First of all, there's no app that would stop working because of a rooted device. Rooting just gains you administrator privileges, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, the best way to unroot and get the official status back is to download and flash an official rom through Odin.

Many thanks for your reply,
Unfortunatly your wrong there, Barclays PingIt (my bank account) knows when a phone has been rooted and displays an error page saying its breaching security and stops the app from working!! Crazy I know.
You can uninstall super su then reboot the phone.
You can get instructions from the Exynos Abuse thread by chainfire. It's at the bottom.

Hello there
I found that flixster wouldn't stream ultraviolet movies with root. I did find that using voodoo ota root keeper from play store helps that. Click on temp unroot, then when you've finished using that app that doesn't allow root, restore root. Unsure that this will work for you, but no harm in trying.

I used this guide and it worked quite well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
