[Q] Lost Root? - Droid X General

I seem to have lost root out of the blue. I hadn't done any updates, and I'm not sure how I lost it at all. ClockWork Mod loads fine, but I have no busybox or root access. Was there a firmware update released within the last week?

What rom are you running?

Running totally stock with the most recent (To my knowledge) OTA. I did an SBF about 2 months ago and rooted after that. When I looked in superuser, the last entry of an allowed program was for the 23 of October. I dont know what happened between then and now, but I had lost root.
Since posting, I did a re-root using the Droid3 root. It obviously took care of it, but I'm still quite clueless as to why this happened.

I believe your phone automatically installed the most recent OTA in that time, causing you to lose root.

If you were rooted and then updated, the su app would remain but root would not. You need to remove the su app before being able to use the one click root.
If you restart and sbf, update before rooting.

That's the thing. To my knowledge it hadn't updated at all. Unless it updated without me knowing...

It quite possibly might have. The latest SBF file is .602 and the latest OTA is .605.
What system version are you running?

It must have then. I'm running. 605. Never even knew.

same thing happened to me. the only thing i did was uninstall the SU file then re-root with the D3 one-click. has worked just fine since 10/22.

Need help!

I have a droid 2 non global. I had all ota updates and now i cant root my phone. I have tried everything, even the droid 3 root and nothing. Anyone else having this issue since the latest update? I am stuck and need this bloatware gone. And i want a good ROM. Please help..

If you installed the most recent update without using Voodoo RootKeeper to back up your root, you're up the creek without a paddle because the newest update breaks root and changes the bootloader so you can't SBF.
Tappin' and talkin' with Tapatalk.
Thanks. That explains it!

(Q) system update downloaded- safe to do?

Hello guys,
I got my n10 today, rooted using marks toolkit.
Now the notification says "system update downloaded" and press to restart and install...
Is there an update or is my tablet trying to restore the original bootloader, and will updating unroot my phone?
Thanks,
Mark.

The OTA is normal. It has nothing to do with root.
I'm not sure if you'll lose root. I don't remember the order of what I did. If you lose it, just re-root. Or you can download Voodoo OTA Root Keeper, which has worked for me in the past.

Yes, you will lose root but you will remain unlocked... in fact, it is a good idea to unroot before installing OTA updates... being a Nexus device, this can easily be re-rooted....
Thank you guys!
I will do it then... Cheers, Mark

Re Root

I rooted with Ñ7 one click tool back when JB 44.1.1 ruled and all was well, Titanium Backup ran we'll. A few upgrades later later TB still runs well but I just tried unsuccessfully to install stick mount and Locksreen Policy only partially works asking if I have root. I ran Root Checker Basic and it says I don't have proper root.
So, can and should I use another root technique on top of the old one?

Flash that in Recovery http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
Flashed the above, still no root and TB stopped working /no root/. Flashed 3.13 and TB is again working.

No clue I have and would never use a utility on a Nexus for ANY reason. What did you do to make it lose root?

thanks.. any suggestions on how to re root? perhaps an easy method
and what apps do you recommend for root keeper?
Its like supersu pro or whatever.

Just flash recovery and then download the supersu zip. Flash the supersu and you are rooted

I used CWM to install the original zip. It prompted me before rebooting if I want to keep root/recovery and to fix it.
I used this thread to reroot using adb...

I used the Nexus 4 1.3 toolkit with updated files
As a precaution I backed up my folders and make a Titanium backup. Technically re-rooting will not WIPE phone like it did first time I purchased it.
I could have installed CWM but prefer to keep this phone stock, considering its as pure as it will ever be and want the OTA updates.
But there are so many options to get ROOT lots of options. Love it so far.
You can use cwm for flashing the ota to avoid the hassle of using adb sideload. You can choose stock recovery after flashing the su zip. Just use the cwm to flash ota and su. Just my 2 cents

I just paid the £1.95 for Su Pro, which keeps root over OTA updates. Worth the money IMHO, I have wasted more time that that in faffing around each time.
Just rooting it like you did first time will work.

Just root again, OTA will make your phone rooted again!!!
Wow. Thanks everyone. I am gonna try a few these. I had no idea su pro kept root. Only had i known
I learn.
After you reroot, get OTA Root Keeper from the Play Store so you can restore root in the future after an OTA
ok... so i figured out an easy way... i used nexus toolkit to root in the first place and then saw this on wug's website... followed the direction and got root back... Thanks everyone for your help
also, its not clear below, but these files are replaced on your computer under C:\Program Files\WugFresh Development\data
"Yes, I am aware that this isn’t working on 4.2.2 right now. This will be fixed in v1.6.3 which will be released ASAP (within a few days or sooner if possible). As a temporary fix you can replace the old adb/fastboot/dll files in the toolkits /data directory with the new ones: new_adb_and_fastboot.zip just download that zip and extract/unzip its contents into the toolkits /data directory and agree to overwrite those files, then proceed to use “Any Build” mode to perform subsequent operations like rooting. Again, this is just a temporary fix for those who are impatient."

Advice for a trouble free phone

Thank you to everyone who helped with the new root and BL unlock ability on the 4.4 RAZR m.
I'm currently have the current ota 4.4 unrooted with a locked bk. The phone runs great mist of the time, but the screen goes blank and reboots at least once a day. Would it be a good idea to reflash to jb, and do a complete wipe of the phone? Are my old apps from jb maybe messing things up? Google maps froze up a couple times which had never happened before, so I'd like to fix that as well.
Thanks

You could root, back up necessary apps and their datas with titanium backup, do a factory reset, reroot after that, and restore your apps. Might get rid of the glitch.

His utility does not work for KitKat. It was made for an earlier version. But motopocalypse in Matts utility works if your phone is rooted on stock KitKat. Which is possible now.

One quick question:
If I wanted the status and Nav bars to be somewhat transparent like in jb stock, any advice?
I've xposed and gravity box, but couldn't find anything that wasn't 100% transparent.
Thanks
