just recieved a g2 from t-mobile with gingerbread - G2 and Desire Z General

I recently exchanged my g2 because the camera lens broke. I received the new g2 today and it has gingerbread on it. It is indeed the same as the leaked build but with it coming from t-mobile do you guys think its the final build and how can i root this thing.

The final G2 GB rom was already leaked, so no added value here unfortunately

just hoping to get this thing rooted

that is strange cause i didn't found a GB rom that would perfectly work on my Vision. there are always some issues like call drops, call lag or battery drains. or maybe i am wrong?

What GB rom are you talking about? The Gingerbread rom stated here is the offical or about to become offical gingerbread update for the G2. As for the call drops and battery drain(Rmk said that he had great battery life using the g2 gingerbread update as a base)... I never had call drops. I live in the san diego area where I get almost full bars and 4g so I havnt got a call drop yet.

Look at this rom from RMK, it's based on the official GB for G2:
[ROM][5/23/2011] Virtuous G-Lite v1.0.2 :: Gingerbread AOSP (HTC/G2 base 2.13.531.8)

i tested CM7 final and latest nightly, G-Lite, miui's and almost all roms availible on this forum with or without sense. I also changed radios to recommended, manually deleted batterystats and giving rom a 3 day trial... every time they failed. now i am on Virtuous and it works fine.

so is there a way to downgrade rom and root it or am i stuck until we get some devs working on it

The best way to get help be on irc freenode.net #G2ROOT

Lol anyhow needs to be moved to general. I think

apparently im not the only one who got a 2.3 g2 from t-mobile so its defiantly the final build

Yeah the G-Lite one is good except for one nagging bug. The Power Control widget kept going blank on me. I got tired of it and I'm back on SuperCM7 1.9 for now.

Just got mine and no such luck
I received a warranty replacement last Saturday as my original G2's screen became unresponsive across the middle of the screen. I just checked and my replacement has the original 2.2 build.
Not sure if that helps the conversation, but know that unless yours was shipped in the last week, the 2.3.3 pre-loaded may just be an accident.

yeah it was yesterday when i got it and im not the only one
http://www.tmonews.com/2011/06/t-mobile-g2-warranty-replacement-units-coming-with-gingerbread/

For us who already have the G2 the build will not be released until July.

Had a friend who got a replacement G2 on 6/7, it came with 2.3.3.
I need to root this sucker and would like to avoid downgrading - are there any root methods out there yet?

Not yet but the root method will probably involve downgrading

I have tried Evil and Gorilla's Desire HD Rom's, Ice Glacier, CM 7, Royal Thunderbolt...have never ran into any issues on either of those. Each phone is unique and will not give you the same results. My advice is to decide what you like stock or sense and then try the different roms out and go from there.

Once your "rooted" and your no longer running stock there is no such thing of "100% FULLY working"..
But try CM7 nightlies there awesome.
You can give my AOSP 1.0.1 a shot... It is functional... I don't believe it has any visible bugs...
My vote is on Orange sense, such a great Rom haven't found much, if anything at all, wrong with it

Not to be a party pooper, but shouldn't this be in Q&A?
Yes it should be in Q&A.
But, with any AOSP Rom you are going to have data slowdown. After a while of the phone being in standby the data will drop to about 1mb downloads. WiFi will cap at about the same.
Once you toggle airplane mode it wakes something up and you will have your usual speed back.
No one has been able to solve this yet, and is the only drawback to aosp.

I been runnin royalginger v1.4.1 for the longest & never had an issue, internet speeds never slowed dwn & wifi was just plain fast,as for 2.2 royalglacier has been the most stable,Team Royal's rom are smooth, fast & stable but again once rooted no rom is 100%,**** no phone is 100%.....
Roylalthunder is a great and fast Rom too and your speeds increase as well

When using CM or any derivitives of (maybe even AOSP) you will be connected to 3G most of the time until you download or need to use 4G then it will automaticlly switch.
With the stock rom it does not differentiate (visually) between 3G and 4G so even though you think you are on 4G all the time you might not actually be.

Is this why you have posted at least 15-20 times today in different threads with pretty much off topic useless comments? Trying to get your post count up since your account was created yesterday? I for one would never flash a Rom from some one that isnt or hasnt been a part of this community for some time. I also saw this post from you (only a hour ago) that makes me wonder....you are building Roms yet had to have help rooting a phone that is really very simple to root. This of coarse is just my two cents, and of coarse everyone is able to do what ever they want.

While you are new, I'll try that as soon as other people have given a thumbs up to it. but PLEASE try and make the gps consistent. That alone is why I'm sticking with the stock rom - any rom with good wireless data and fully functional GPS is a winner. ESPECIALLY if it's AOSP.
I saw this on a thread a while back... dial *#*#4636#*#* and then choose the first option (like phone info or something) then scroll down to where it says wcdma preferred and tap it and switch it to wcdma only and reboot and you'll be on 4g way more than before. all vanilla android (aosp) ROMs seem to have this reputation. the people who do see this usually don't have this happen all the time but seems to come in spurts and then be ok for a while.
but one thing that does NOT help the situation is jumping around flashing one new ROM / kernel / radio after another over and over in short periods of time. ..feel free to do this if you're really itching to but just don't clog up all the corresponding threads with questions or comments about your battery life, reception, data speeds, etc .... JUST EXPECT inconsistencies if you're currently indulging your flash crack addiction.
it comes with the territory.
and I'm not trying to say don't try other setups out. but if you are really on a 'quest' to find the configuration (ROM/kernel/radio/etc) that works best for YOU - do yourself a favor and give each setup 3 - 4 days AT LEAST .. ideally a week +
not only for the ROM to have a chance to settle in and show you some kind of consistency but to give your worn out phone and battery a rest!
your glacier will be a much happier little block of ice this way, believe me
happy flashing

There isnt much difference from the stock 2.2.1 that you had and 2.3.4 that the gingerbread update brings, minor differences in the notification tray, some item counts (like unread email) but nothing major. There are bug fixes, bluetooth for example but the majority of differences are not in the UI.
You wont be able to apply the official version since the version posted here on july 18 build number is higher then what tmo is pushing out it will just error out. You will have to find a way to go back to 2.2.1.. I believe directions to do that can be found in the thread that contains the version you installed. You are not alone, a lot of people installed that not knowing it wasnt actually the 'final' build, a lot of issues have cropped up including no email, gps not working and the radio being unpredictable. Hopefully you can go back to 2.2.1, just follow the steps in that thread.
I hope someone posts this, it took a day for the G2 users to do it. I'm in Florida and I want to do the update with my laptop at night, I'm not going to a t-mobile store on vacation, but I want gingerbread!
I update with the 2.3.4 that fooball posted then i seen a bunch of people post that it wasn't the same update that T Mobile is pushing out
You can go back to 2.2.1 from the 2.3.4 that football posted
Do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 follow the G2 method, when you get to the part where you put this in # /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.19.531.1 make sure you put the version you want like 1.17.531.2 not 1.19.531.1 . I did it and it worked you will need this file http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4fh01d/n/PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed.zip rename it PD15IMG and put it on sdcard.

the HTC email client does not work, gps has issues, the radio is unstable, and debugging is turned on. The numbers do not match the final release version of what T-Mobile is pushing out OTA and via sdcards. If everything works for you then great, your one of the lucky ones.
yes mail client works just fine, i use it for hotmail, gmail obviously works.
now this debugging thing, can u let me know little more? are we talking about usb debugging or something else?

[Q] GB app compatibility with ICS (supermono)

i have been using an app called super mono since at least 2.1 on all my devices. this app redirects all phone sounds to any bluetooth headset. i know a lot of things are changing in ICS and i was wondering if this app is gonna work on 4.0. it has worked on every CM and Sense rom i have used except for the miui 4.0 hybrid. as i understand it, it is a tweak not officially supported by google but all in all, its BY FAR my favorite app. if 4.0 wont support it ill have to wait til the developer updates or stay on 2.3.7

Just a broken screen?

Looking for some input

Ok so I don't actually own the my touch, my girlfriend has it, her first one we got maybe back in may? But anyways, it was a piece of ****, all stock of course, she doesn't want me hacking her phone lol. I figured maybe it was just her phone and called tmobile and eventually ended up getting a replacement.. well turns out this is just as big of a piece of ****, hardware wise the phone should run very nicely, would rooting and installing a custom fix most of her issues (which are too long to list atm) and if so, what is the recommended rom? I do know she would like to stay with a GB rom, any advice would be appreciated.

One is a the stock rooted ROM w/ any one of several custom kernels.
Another is Android Revolution HD. There are two versions in the dev section, both of which are in the same thread and are great.
Energy ROM is also good, but she may not care for the look.
Also, there is InsertCoin v1.7.1. I'm running that one now and really like it.
Edit: Bas3balman and I are shamelessly promoting the port our team released. Haha.

Much better than stock. Your mileage may vary, but definitely an improvement.

Wait what? Lol, I couldn't get 4 hours of screen time with 0% battery left on that ROM, or well any ROM.
