Hey Omega,
My thoughts exactly, "awsome", what a way to go just a shame Sony can,t get there heads round treating it's customers right, i looked into the Arc, if i buy one i can unlock the bootloader, but then you read on its at the exspense of throwing away your warranty, they give with one hand and take with the other, i'm just thankful i only bought a phone from them and they never had my bank details.

For sure this is the best phone out with all that tech! 1.2 dual core, 1080p recoreding, 8mp camera, dnla, super amoled plus, gyroscope etc etc. It has a very impressive tech list and what I really like is how Samsung are sending it to cyanogenmod, possibley to remove the touch wiz ui and bring it closer to a native android feel or perhaps cyanogemod have something of their of own planned espicially for this ;-)
My only concearn and thing stopping me from rushing and buying one right now, is this phone ugly? I just find the general looks to be uninspiring and under stated. It just looks like bigger version of the iPhone.
I know that's quite a big contrast in my own opinion but if a phone like this existed but with arc looks or had game controls like a play then definately I'd be rushing out to get it now. I just feel Samsung should if made this phone pretty like our x10's which I reckon is still up their in best looking android phones.

I agree completely that the biggest flaw of the gs2 is the crappy design and even crappier touch wiz iphone wannabe interface. You can always replace the home launcher and I am positive the share brute power and features will win you over faster than it takes the eye to blink.

Reading the article, I don't see any mention that Samsung will allow its bootloader to be unlocked whilst retaining warranty. So at the end of the day, the 2 companies might still have the same policy.

I think with all smart phones once you root your phone you violate your warranty, with Sony and the arc you have to give your IMIE number to unlock the bootloader, this then signs away your warranty for good there is no return buddy.
EDIT... AND here's the answer it already comes rooted and with warranty.

Well, you don't have to unlock the bootloader to root the arc.
And I just read through some reviews of the Galaxy S2 but none of them mentioned that it's shipped pre-rooted. I believe the online store you mentioned above rooted the phone before selling it to its consumers; perhaps the warranty it mentions is from them, not Samsung.

So just having the Arc rooted is going to release the full potential of that phone, don't think so buddy, just look whats happening to our x10 with the custom kernels around now.
What differance does it make who covers the warranty at least its got one unlike your Arc if you unlock the bootloader.
Lastly, as you have now got our best Dev over in the Arc forum, Jerpelea, you will miss out greatly if you do not unlock your bootloader, freexperia will live on in the Arc.
Bootloader already open......

I was merely addressing your statement "I think with all smart phones once you root your phone you violate your warranty, with Sony and the arc you have to give your IMIE number to unlock the bootloader, this then signs away your warranty for good there is no return buddy" which seems to imply one needs to unlock the bootloader to root the arc. What you on about dude, read again, where do i say you have to unlock the bootloader to root the arc, its obvious as you have a arc that you are a fanboy and its that good you are here in a x10 forum, Sony do not give you nothing and never will, you have a company like samsung selling phones with the bootloader already unlocked and it kicks the ass off sony, to many cutomers have been and still are being let down by sony, only time will tell if they will ever change but i can't see it.
Thanks for the discussion, good luck with your arc but i not be following you to your forum for sure, not now i know if i want to use a arc and have the bootloader unlocked i sign away my warranty. The post was merely saying Samsung are leading the way, what i do not understand is why is not sony??

Yea it only comes rooted because "On The Go Solutions" has rooted it for you.
It does not come pre-rooted with warranty from Samsung. So you would rely on the warranty that On The Go Solutions provide.

personally I don't really like Sense. I found the X10's UX, and now the Arc's UX was very nice and clean, but had shortcomings like lag and 5 homescreen limit. I don't really like Sense's theme.

But your missing the simple point - It's still got warranty and say like our x10 you only have to flash with seus and its back to stock, with the arc you sign away your warranty with your imie number, its not rocket science to know which phone you would choose is it.

xperia x10 final doubt

hello
today i'm going to buy my new phone because i've sold yesterday my samsung i8910. i was going on the htc desire but i've see that xperia is already rootable. thanks to that. can you tell me if now, with the root, we will have2.1 sooner than we expect and custom roms? the hardware of the xperia is better than the desire but i was going on the desire because of the faster and more actual os. thanks
The X10 is NOT rooted yet people working on it but it is difficult.
so what's your opinion, should i go for the xperia and wait for the root or should i buy the desire?

its risky. the X10 might never get rooted. however.
X10 rooted = million times better than desire/nexus
X10 not rooted = POS you should avoid. unless the phone design is the only thing matters to you
I have my hopes up for the froyo petition, especially answer to that. Ofc nothing confirming but atleast it was'nt a defenitive no.. still, if you want an up to date phone X10 is not your choice as of right now. Sad thing couse its one damn fine device and im pleased with it, but ofc i'd like to see some updates soon

serious hardware that is crippled by an outdated OS. if it would get 2.1 or if the OS gets a fix for the laggy interface, i would say it's a good buy.
you should wait and see what's up.
because if this phone is rooted, it's a different ball game.
So, what ods am i looking?i'm afraid i buy the desire and tomorrow the x10 gets rooted. Lol. I've read that paul is working on this. Should i have hope on paul?

lol SE have alot to answer for what a let down. Mind you I think if SE announced another fantastic android handset to be launched, with better specs then x10, i fear most people would probably fall for that aswell.
people need to stop moaning . x10 does everything it needs to do and does it great. the only lag is when using timescape (and se promise to fix this in the next update as they managed to make it not lag on the x10 mini and mini pro). i dont use timescape anyway
with the htc ime keyboard my x10 is great. i will only start feeling let down when everyone else is getting 2.2 and working flash. at the moment though im having no problems at all with SEs version of 1.6
also got to consider that x10 is about £100 cheaper than a desire/nexus one
root will come
Unless the prices have dropped the last i checked x10 was more expensive then desire.

I'm hoping that the Tegra 2 doesn't have the eFuse lock either.
I'm hoping that because Google is involved from the outset, like the Nexus phones, that this will be considered a dev device as well as a kick ass consumer product. But as a former Milestone owner, I'm going to be very wary of it nonetheless.
Moto just doesn't understand open.
It's sad what they did with the bootloader on the new line of Droid and the milestone. As my Droid one was so easy to hack it wasn't funny. But there really isn't to much I can do with my x. Although out of the box with a little adw ex my x is sweet. Although not quite like the ole incredible with miui

Um... You're supposed to prove these wild statements somehow, right? I played with HTC's new tablet last week, but forgot to take a picture of it too. Or was it that they confiscated my Dinc and unrooted it after they saw I tethered it for upload the video i took of myself on it's 400 million megapixel ffc? Get the point? I like you, just not that much.
And what the hell does playing with the device have to do with the boot loader? I'm pretty sure you will need a USB cable and at least an incredible to root it, aren't you?
I def understand where your coming from but i got to test the devices cause the motorola rep for my district came to my job with it.
And i had the physical devices in my hands so in theory i would've been able to test the bootloader
No i don't have pictures of me holding the devices so all i have is my word, believe me or not i got to demo it, i guess the next time he comes with the bionic i'll make sure to sneak a picture for hard proof

At that price, it would be way to cheap. We're talking about state of the art tech that completely knocks the winds out of the highest price iPad ($799-$849).
Even though I'd love to buy it for $450, I'd be worried why is was so cheap.... $699 is OK. If I had to wish a reasonable price, I'd say $599.
Damn I was just getting lots of schemes to buy one with my tax money, then you guys have to mention the bootloader!
It might be too late for the Xoom Facebook spam plan though. If its going to launch in a couple weeks they are probably already making them.
Anybody know if any Dev's have said they are definitely going to develop for it yet?
The xoom looks very cool.
but i will not buy this if moto locked the bootloader.

Putting pressure on SE to unlock it.
Since there is no further support for the phone.
Question...what makes you think that would work? how would *****ing and moaning on their site make them unlock it?
Just because the smaller minority who want to mod there phones want the bootloader unlocked doesnt mean SE will. The majority of phone users dont care about it as a phones a phone in their eyes
So SE wont unlock it

So Xperia ARC is just hum .............................a no go...

You are right, my next upgrade will be a HTC for sure.
htc thunderbolt looks pretty awesome
GOod try We speak out
Please no flamming ... SE may have other reasons for not releasing Bootloader
1. I am not a fan of SE and NO my next phone will NOT be SE.
2. If SE indeed uses the same/similar bootloader for smartphones, playstation and more importantly for medical and security equipment they sell it will be irresponsible of them to release the code.
3. If they do get convinced that a significant percentage of their customer base will get eroded if they don't treat the market right .. that might work!

Which do you beleive will have better roms?

Looking to upgrade from nexus one to either atrix or galaxy sII. They both have good hardware and it would be nice to have the bigger screen of the galaxy but it doesn't really matter to me.
I don't really trust Samsung with software upgrades and I have never had a Motorola before. I think what my decision is going to come to is which one will have the most custom rom development.
Anyone have any guesses on which one you believe will have more custom rom options?
Neither. Motorola still has the encrypted bootloader and Samsung just lies about releasing updates.
I haven't been paying much attention to it, but I thought they already figured out a way to root the atrix
That has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I would choose the atrix, only cause of the massive battery.

Problem is that you can be rooted but if the bootloader is encrypted like many Motorola's you cannot install a custom recovery to flash custom ROM's, you just have SU access being rooted.

This is my thought as well. I won't get another android phone without community support. After watching Vibrant & Droid X development and their troubles I've ruled out both these manufactures regardless of specs.
I expect LG to be the most open of the upcoming android dual core models. It's just a guess though.
Most definitely NOT the Atrix. XDA should let that phone die... Hit them where it actually hurts with phone sales, rather than buying it in hopes to it being cracked one day.
The SGS II looks like the way to go between those two. Unless you feel like waiting to see what HTC ends up releasing.
As for LG, I have no idea. Never owned an LG phone before... The Optimus' bezel sticks out too much along the touch screen, so that'll probably be a deal breaker for me. We'll see when it actually comes out. Till then, it's a waiting game for me.

It's too bad that the number if people using cooked roms are a margin of error if the phone is successful for the normal consumer. The network perception will do 20x more to hurt sales than the locked bootloader ever will.
That being said, I'd wait for HTC to announce thier next gen (pyramid et al.)

Problem is by the time you realize there will not be any update, it's too late to sell it's not worth anything!
We paid a lot of money for this phone.

but as it is an "android" phone and hence open source, cant we at least expect it to be somewhat open?

the iPhone may be better supported, but it's still crap in a fancy box.
Just gave my little rant on the matter, thanks xD

EXACTLY! AT&T started selling the x10 in August 2010, I got mine in October, and now they're not even selling it anymore (at least on their website). The x10 looks to be (unfortunately) a test-bed phone for Sony's intro to the android market, and those who've bought it are the guinea pigs. When the Xperia Play comes out, I'll just give my x10 to my wife and get that one. I have already made my views perfectly clear to SE AND AT&T on their facebook oages and through emails to them. They could care less though.
