I'm going to call up T-Mobile today and ask for a new G1.
The lower right corner of the screen is VERY squeaky. It's really loud, and you can feel it squeak when you press around the bottom right 30% of the screen.
The problem is the bottom right corner is being sucked up against the "chin" of the phone. Pulling it away just a milimeter gets rid of the squeak. There is, however, no easy fix unless I want to take sandpaper and start sanding away around the joints.
I'm currious how many other people are having this problem. I've read of a couple of people having it, but I thought I poll would be a decent way to see if it's wide-spread or just a select few devices.

I got my g1 yesterday... I f'n love it! But the screen does squeak a lil when pressed on and also my screen is not really aligned right when I open the phone to use the keyboard but its really not that noticeable...
Forgive me for being skeptical, but I wonder if you guys are pressing too hard on your screen? Mine only squeaks if I really push on it.
I've found I barely need to touch the screen to get it to respond. If you had the Wing or other WinMo phone, you're probably used to pressing much harder. You shouldn't have to with this phone, it's built to respond to the slightest touch.
Or at least that's my experience. If it's bothering you, by all means get a new phone. Perhaps it's a dual problem, perhaps the screen isn't as responsive, and thus you're forced to press harder and that makes it squeak. Best of luck, guys.
The creaking problem appears to be isolated to the black g1s due to a small plastic lip on the chin where the screen meets the chin. I haven't seen the black in person but pictures show that it is more of a matte finish as opposed to a glossy finish for the bronze. I have the bronze g1 and the chin has this extra piece of plastic but due to it having a glossy finish, it doesn't creak..it slides smootly when pressing the screen corner.

I was sceptical, but I took an exacto and shave just a little off. I thought it wouldn't hurt. Well it worked perfect and not a squeek to be found even when pressing or sliding. Can't beleive that little flash of modeling makes so much noise. Thanks for the fix.

The plastic on this screen is like a magnet for finger juices.
Not slick like glass, it has a plasticy feel that makes me miss the original screenplastic that covered it.
and if you have the ToddlerLock and hand it to a kid - what the eff - Grease City, USA.
I have to clean this more often than on my wing, and it's not the simple huhhhuhh/wipe - it's a cloth or shirt with windex or spit.
(yeah I lick my screen and wipe with tshirt to clean it. Hope it doesn't void the warranty)

This was an ingenious fix! Worked for me! The screen still moves but no sqeaks!!
I've heard reports of this but mine is dead silent when I push on it. In fact it doesn't even have any give, it's just solid against the phone. I must have just gotten lucky. Mine's black by the way.
Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Unlike everyone else, I don't see this as a big deal.
if you dont consider it a big deal, then you havent heard one really squeak yet. I have had people ask me what that f-ing noise is when I am talking on the phone. Just rubbing against my face it squeaks...LOUD. My friends black makes no noise, mine is a nightmare

I tried the razor blade trick and it seemed to help a little.
Two G1s and put a file to it - and no more squeek. Finally lol. That was annoying. And the girlfriend has a white one - no squeek. That part isnt there.

i used an little blade to shave it right off
worked perfectly
i had called tmobile to ask them to replace it but they said they cant do anything about it
so i took matters into my own hands
did it in less than 30 seconds and pressed as hard as i could and didnt heard a squeek at all
I have a white g1 and the creaking sounds are pushing me that much i feel like selling up th problem is i got my phone new from ebay so i dont think i can send it back also when the phone is open the screen is not alingend this is horrible and i cant help but notice it is there any fix for that problem?

My G1 is super sqeeky. I have had it replaced 3 times for various screen problems.... every one I have had seems to squeek. Just tried the razor trick... Didn't seem to help. Oh well.... doesn't bother me That much. Embrace your sqeeks.

I recently got a replacement Xperia from O2 after my old one had a severe backlight bleed, however, one thing stands out for this one with me.
The slider seems very loose, so loose that when you close an application by tapping 'X', the left side of the screen rises about half a millimeter.
Also, when the phone is opened, the screen is loose, e.g. shaking the device slightly causes the screen to 'Flap' in a sense.
I can't remember if my original had a loose slider, so fellow X1 owners....Is this common? Is it worth ringing O2 again?

well, i have my xperia for some 2 months and the screen is also very loose, when i open it i can see that the right metalplate that holds the screen moves about 1mm up and down, the left one is steady in place tho... when it's closed i can even insert my touchscreen pen in between the screen and keyboard... it's that loose... i figure it happens over time... i never let it fall down on the floor and i always use a hard leather bag on my belt to carry it. It's a bit annoying tho, the phone doesn't feel nearly as solid as when i bought it. But the thought of having to send the phone for repair and have to wait i don't know how long to have it back, is holding me from doing anything about it...
But maybe it happens with all or most phones...?
Well, according to the staff at the service centre here, the looseness is cos of the curved sliding mechanism. Asked if they could tighten it and they said if tightening it would cause the keyboard to get scratched.
lol that's such a lame excuse... it was tightened when it was brand new lol
Mine may be a little loose, but it has not gotten worse since I got it a few months ago. It is as I expected from a slider phone. It still feels tight and top quality.
It's difficult to discuss things like this without trying your phone and vice versa. I guess if you feel your phone is too floppy and not as tight as one can expect, you should definately talk to the service guys again.

Since I got my X1 at the end of Oct 2008 the slider has become loose compared to when it was new and I have compared it to other new X1's in stores. I found that the backplate of the slideout, at the exposed long side of the phone, between the two "tracks" has come loose from the actual top part and this is causing allowing the slider to move. In the new X1's i checked this parts was firmly attached to the top part and the slider was very nice and firm. I think SE may have a manufacturing problem here and I've turned mine in for repair. It will be interesting to see if they fix it or come back and say "abuse". I use it professionally and I have a original SE beltpouch for it.
Apart from this little problem I love the phone and it's functions!

I've encountered the same problem and just had a word with the the dedicated XPERIA line in the US. I purchased my phone from Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
What they said was that they would need to verify the purchase of the phone. Once that is done, I can send it in to the service center and have it repaired. Not too sure if they're going to do anything about it, but they said it could take up to 60 days (!!!!).
Anyone had any luck fixing this without sending it in?
Have brought my phone to the service centre twice, both times with regards to battery life issues, and had at the same time mentioned about the loose slider, but never had they done anything about it.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. I pre-ordered the Atrix and got it Feb 23rd. Since then I have been very happy with the phone. Then yesterday, while at work I pulled out my phone (which has a permanent home in my front, left pocket) and I noticed a crack in the lower, left hand side that starts from about a third of the way up the left side of the phone down to the bottom, beneath the "home" button.
Anyhow, I have no idea how this happened. I have been incredibly careful with the phone. I got the Speck case first, but didn't like how it was too bulky and have been using the BodyGlove TPU case ever since I got the phone.
I feel like there must have been some defect with the glass or something. Perhaps a micro-fracture that got worse in my pocket? Has anyone else had this problem of seemingly spontaneous cracking? It's a single clean crack. I can't find any damage anywhere else on the phone (in case someone else dropped my phone without me knowing). Other than the crack the screen is working perfectly.
Today, I contacted ATT (for 4 hours!) and tried to get some sort of resolution to my problem. I was told that I was SOL and if I want, they'd "help" me out by selling me a non-contract Atrix.
I have been so ticked off since I found the crack that it's all I can think about it. I wouldn't even be so angry if I'd drop it, but this seems like not my fault at all. I bought their case and I kept the phone safe. Am I the only one this has happened to? Do you guys think I should just chalk it up to the phone gods and accept it or should I keep calling Att to complain?
Hard to say, really. I'd try taking it in to a store. calling someone... they can't really SEE the phone first hand... so they're probably just assuming you dropped the phone which caused a "crack".... which would actually usually cause "Cracks". I'm not saying it's a definite... but you MIGHT have better luck taking it to an AT&T store. I mean, insured or not, i'm pretty sure phones usually have a limited warranty for this type of stuff.
Well the digitizer screen and lcd are seperate so it should be a cheap fix. There are places online that will replace the glass for around a $100.

I had my replace called onsite cellular repair and they charged $140 for it.
Sounds like you leaned against something without realizing it. I too keep my phone in front left pocket and have caught myself leaning against tables and the like with my phone. I doubt very much it was a defect.

You do realise it's Gorilla Glass, right? i kinda doubt something as simple as leaning against something would do it in.
If you have insurance and can go without a phone for a couple days you could pull your sim card out of your phone and report the phone lost/stolen. You will probably have to pay a fee to the insurance company. Im not sure if that would be cheaper than just having it fixed though.
I preordered one and have been using it and picked up another on eBay with a cracked screen and replaced it. If you are interested in having it repaired I would be willing to do it. I've done iPhone 3G repairs since it came out and 3GS. That was my first Atrix. Had no issues and worked perfectly after

Gorilla glass does not equal indestructible, and yes, leaning against something with your body weight can cause damage, especially if you lean close to a corner. Do some research on Gorilla glass.............it takes only 4000g (4kg/9lbs) of pressure to induce radial cracking, and 800N (80kg/175lbs) to induce complete failure. So, you see, it is entirely possible to crack the glass by leaning against something!

Well.... the video's i've seen of tests on gorilla glass seem to show more pressure required even when weakened with sandblasting. I know it's not indestructible, but it's a lot harder to break than standard glass. And even the numbers you mention seem a bit odd. 9lbs to crack, but 175lbs to fail?
Even if all that IS true.... if you, too, are one to keep your phone in your pocket, you should know that typically people who DO make one of their front pockets their phone's permanent home (Which is odd, cause it seems to almost always be the front left pocket), they generally know not to lean with something pressing against the phone. I keep my phone in my front left pocket. And it's not even basically an idea of telling one's self not to lean against it. it's basically done subconsciously. And if that's not enough, when you feel that rather large square gently pressing against your thigh.... you tend to get the idea really quick that you shouldn't be doing what's about to be done.

Buy cellphone insurance from them, and replace it a week later. Then if that doesnt work, you may want to try this link for new glass.

Got the numbers right from Cornings white papers. 9lbs is a lot of pressure on one point, and 175lbs is pressure applied with impact at an angle of 45 degrees. I might add that sandblasting will not put stresses into materials in the same way a scratch or point pressure will. Sandblasting will weaken in a more uniform manner, (and is generally used for stress relief), whereas a scratch is more localized. When you see these manufacturer videos, advertisements, etc., you have to remember they will always make things look the absolute best, so will show what is perceived to be abuse, when in actual fact a scratch or "dent" is much more normal for everyday use. I don't know about you, but I have never accidentally sandblasted my phone, but I have dropped them, scratched them, and applied pressure to them in various ways.
In my work, I lean over and into areas a lot, and that's when I sometimes feel the pressure on the phone against my thigh. I don't like holsters. Had Otterbox for my iPhone, and it dropped more with that than anything because it always got bumped off. If I remember, I remove my phone from my pocket before activities where it can have pressure applied to it.
As for the left front pocket, with men..........that's probably because users are predominantly right handed, and hold their phones with their left hands, using the right hand to swipe, etc. (You might find that women tend to put there phones mostly in their rear right pockets also when using pockets).

Thanks for the replies. I guess it could be from the leaning. I don't think I would have ever leaned on it in a way that I would have thought should have caused any damage. If it was due to leaning, I am very disappointed in the quality of that glass. And from the look of the crack I wouldn't have guessed leaning was the culprit, but since no one else has chimed in with spontaneous cracking, I only have myself to blame I guess.
Also, thanks for the tips on how to fix my phone. I did not get the insurance so that's not an option. As for the warranty, that only applies to defects that aren't physical, which is kinda bollocks because they assume there's no such thing as physical defects. I did look into the screen replacement. Sites online charge as much as I paid for the phone which is lame and buying the screen to do myself requires the purchase of 3. Anyone else need a replacement screen or have an extra to sell?

To anyone who's done this already, do you have a recommendation of which one to buy? There seems to be lots of different prices. I guess I want to get an official OEM, but almost all of them say OEM. Do you think there's a big difference between them?

So I got my N4 on Friday, and the first few days this never happened.
Now if I just lightly squeeze or even just when picking up the phone, the left side of the back glass sort of gives a bit, and makes a pop/click sound and moves a bit, while the right side is still solid and makes no noise.
Anyone else had this issue? Seems like maybe the glue on that side didn't hold or something similar.
If I contact Google, what is their system for something like this? Have to send it off for repair for 2 weeks without a phone?

Get a torx 5 screwdriver bit (most hardware stores will sell them or a kit with that size included), loosen the two bottom screws just a little, press the back and front firmly together and retighten them. Worked great for me, fix has lasted over a month so far.

Yes, it is a common problem and very simple to fix. Took less than two minutes.
You'll be happy that you did it, the phone feels much more solid/quality afterwards.
Does your S5 battery door creak/squeak when you put pressure in certain areas?
I have one that does creak/squeak when you put pressure where the Samsung logo is (under the auto focus), and another S5 that doesnt.

Nope, mine doesn't make any noise at all when I put pressure on it. Like eyecon said above, you sure it's on securely? If so, perhaps there's a defect with your back cover. But yeah, that's definitely not normal behavior.
Ya if it squeaks, I'd get it exchanged since it may not be closing and snapping in properly, thus negative the water resistant seal

no issues here, my battery door is strongly in place. But i do have some doubt about the rubber gasket in the back, if you guys want to take a look at my thread and post your findings it would be greatly appreciated

Mine does. I went to the store and asked for another to check on it and it did the same thing in the same location (in the middle of the power button side). I switched two covers on two phones and all combinations were with the exact same problem. Guess a bad batch or who knows what. It's driving me crazy . I'm waiting for my UAG case which I guess will cover up the issue.
Mine does. And it irritates me like anything. Going to the store to get it replaced.

I have try that in the store and my was fine, but try it on the spot, so you don't have to go back again
I have the same problem and the Samsung support mean to me, I must send my phone to the Samsung repair. They are crazy, I don't like to send the complete phone to change 1 back cover, next week I wend to the provider where I bought the phone and then I see, maybe they'll change the cover
Yup, have that too but it doesn`t bother me a bit. I use a flipcase or s-view case anyway.
My wireless charging back cover creaks like mad. Worse place are just below the power button and above the camera lens.

A phone that creaks bothers me a lot.
Today I started to notice this on my s5. It's mostly on the right side, but it can squeak a little if pressed in the middle. It's not something that is very audible but what worries me is if waterproofing is compromised or not.
Also, it's fully snapped on and o checked that multiple times
EDIT : Just noticed that pressing on the heart rate area, the case gives in a bit and has a small gap. I poured a bit of water on top of it to see if it would leak a lot of water (haven't used the phone on water or tested the waterproof before) and after i take out the case a bit of water entered through there. It wasn't much, but maybe if it was submerged in a bit more water it would leak more inside and i don't know if it would reach the battery or not. Is it normal for water to enter there? Or is there a problem in the case?
Also, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side that i mentioned. Funny enough, the water leak on the heart rate sensor is on the left side of it.

Anyone can tell me if this is "normal" or if i should take it to warranty? Is a back case even covered under warranty?

Mine creaks on the right side as well, and I made sure the case is fully snapped all around. And just like yours, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side. Its annoying at times, but I learned to ignore it most of the time. I wnot bother exchanging or returning. Had the phone for couple months now.

Its something that only a few people seem to experience because i haven't found many reports of it, only a few. Probably some batches of phones with a production problem or not so good quality control, i don't know =/ But i do know that all the clips are snapped on or at least look like it.
I actually contacted Samsung about it but got the generic and expected reply to take it to a repair center to analyse the phone - which i didn't. My main concern would be any problems with waterproofing, but i just putted on a case and don't think much about it now actually.
