[Q] How-To Overclock GT540 to 900Mhz? - GT540 Optimus General

Hi Guys!
I searched the forum and Google but I found nothing about the question, and what I found was very vague.
I would like to know how to overclock to 900Mhz on my GT540, I think I should increase the voltage to run the overclock, but could not find anything about this either. The maximum that can be stable is 806MHz.
They said it's only a few GT540 thats run on 900Mhz.
This information is correct?
Thanks for the reply! And sorry for my bad English.

Theres no need to overclock to 900, its will more than likly drain your battery in 6 hours. And not even make a difference to the performance.

Humm, but I am curious on Quadrant results... and maybe 100 will make difference in some games?
I Play much games on my Phone LOL.
And thanks for your fast response!

What games?
I installed SwiftDroid v2.0 M5 and OC to 806 MHz. Angry Birds (+ Seasons & Rio) doesn't lag any more . What do you want more ?

It's about how much you can overclock the our phone depends on which part of the silicon has been made the processor and depends on kernel. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do.
Sorry for my bad English

I can overclock my phone at 900mhz but it's not very stable.

I had mine at 850MHz for a while. 800MHz is a lot more stable.
My phone will boot at 900MHz, but it's not very stable. Without cooling, and voltage control, you can't overclock a phone too far without losing stability.

i tweaked mine to 1ghz
but it only lasts about 30 seconds then it crashes out and reboots
i can get 864mhz to run stable without trying
i am gonna upload a tut for the 1ghz thing and i want to know how did they get
864mhz stable

Would be nice.
But 1Ghz is Danger, becuz our processor its make to 900Mhz. I think so.

MSM7227 is officially specified UP TO 600MHz
see link -> h**p://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a7227&c=qualcomm_msm7227
800MHz+ is already very good (+33% OC), got mine stable @ 880MHz (+46% OC)

How you get that stable?
sent from my gt540 mur4ik RC0 806mhz

Mine crashes when overclocked above 748MHz. But I don't mind.

Sorry I forgot: I use Mur4iks M4

There's no secret involved in this. All CPUs are manufactured to meet a guaranteed clock speed. That is the speed they have to meet in order to pass QC. Some CPUs will be able to run a little faster and some will be able to run a lot faster but all will be set at the default speed. The variance is just a factor of the manufacturing process. If you're lucky you get one that can do 900, if not, well you can't complain unless it won't do 600...

Hi guys. I'm planing to overclock and I want to know what do I put for min CPU frequency and max CPU frequency?
I'm running 2.3.7 swiftdroid 2.0
Thanks in advance

make sure the settings are not set on boot, min 122 then for max slowly increase from 600 then so on.. if the phone hangs take out the battery. this way you will know the maximum the cpu can go

I have overclocked to 900mhz i tried
going further but didn't want to risk it!!
i should try some day!!

[Q] SETCPU HD2 overclock

hi guyz, i have a little question for you
does someone have an hd2 with android witch is overclocked to over 1ghz? 1.5ghz too? and, is it a warried operation or cpu has a low overhead in that situation?
3rd and last question, if i put my hd2 in 1.5ghz mode, and force a bench test, may i broke my hd2 with going upper than cpu Tjunction or there's a system protection witch shuts down all the hardware else the cpu is too close to Tjunction? (like normally pc cpu)
i don't know if snapdragon has system protection, so, i don't want to try to fuse my hd2 (it's my main phone)
and, for users who whant to know, yep, i'm using wp7 because it's smoother than android, but, if i try to use android with that overlock, may it can be smooth like wp7, maybe
and, please, don't say that android is smooth, because it has some micro freeze in the continuity of the animation, and i hate that
thank you for your answers

You can set your clock to max, but make a profile to downclock your cpu speed to ~500 MHZ when it heats up.

nice, what's the tjunction of snapdragon? is 50°C too hight?
not sure, to be honest, I don't overclock my device. too scared to do so :/
but when I did overclock it I set the temperature to 41-42 Celsius.

different builds use different kernels, and each support different max CPU speeds. If the kernel supports overclocking, the developer usually mentions than in the first post. Note that Some kernels/builds do not support any kind of overclocking, so the max CPU speed would be ~988 MHz

degrading cpu

hi people as the title says my phones cpu seems to be weakening..... when i was using utopia i could oc my phone to 900MHz and quadrant advance it would score around 4000 point for cpu but now after going to swiftdroid rc4 it could only go to 880MHz and anything above will hang the phone... and at 880MHz it could score only less then 4000 points for cpu....
it could be cpu getting old or just the rom. im open to all ideas
I would think its the rom/kernel
Brought to you by DonDizzle
2.3.5 has many features and benefits but its still in active development so ive also found o/c to not be as stable but hopefully as we progress will get better

Well, maybe the new swiftdroid's just not that good at it (yet?). Each version sees changes to the kernel, so it's not impossible something changed for the worse.
Sent from my GT.. ah, screw it!
On Swiftdroid v1.8, it used to crash on 900mhz on mine. But now it crashes when running for a while on that frequency. It's more stable than before but not good enough for 900mhz.
after letting it settle awhile i can now oc to 900 MHz again but only for a little while after that it hangs :/ looks like no more 900 MHz for me
If I play a game or something it hangs
I get around 30 seconds before it hangs
On my device, when I underclock under 600mhz and restart. It turn into a bootloop. I have about a minute to change the settings (hopefully) before it restarts again.
Johny ill make sure RC7 is 600-680 on boot. ; )
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
According to System Tuner, it is always 600mhz on boot, but it quickly changes to the set clock speed after a moment. If the the change happens during the loading of apps from the launcher, it crashes (if I underclock under 600mhz).

[Q] ZTE Blade maximum stable overclock.

hey folks,
I would like to know what is the maximum stable overclock possibe for zte blade.
Im using cm7 nightlies and the max overclock frequency i can see is 864MHz. But my device will be stable only upto 691MHz or 710MHz.
What is your blade's max stable overclock.?
I heard some other android devices can be overclocked to their maximum value and remain stable at that value. What about ZTE blade. I think blade gets a lot of performance if it reaches stable at 864MHz. I don't bother the battery life or overheating really.
Is there any hack or something like that.?
672 max stable for me, my old one did 748. depends on your phone.
Has anybody had it over 800 stable?

I think it doesn't really change the speed with that governor, it's designed so you use a program to set the speed yourself, except none exist, I assume it doesn't work at all without it. It needs something to write the desired speed to a system device, if nothing does that then it'll just stay at the same speed.
Test new speeds with performance governor, that keeps the cpu at it's maximum speed, it's not ideal for battery life but you can see if it really is stable at that speed.
I got my blade to 806 mhz, too. I stress tested it with setCPU, and it was stable.
I didn't have the guts to test higher than 806, though.
and I don't leave my phone on overclock.

Just make sure that it isn't set to overclock on boot when you're testing higher speeds. Then the worst that can happen is it crashes & you know it doesn't work. Needs to be done in the name of science, so I know if it's worth enabling 864mhz & above in my kernels, or if nobody can ever get that high.
Nobody has managed to overvolt our cpu (msm7227) yet, I checked Google, it's probably not realistic to hope for it. I'm not sure it's possible at all. So whatever the maximum stable speed for your phone is, you're stuck with it, it'll never get any faster.

It's a totally different cpu to the blade. I could add an option to make your phone run at 1ghz if you want, but it'll just crash straight away, the samsung has a faster & different cpu. We'd need more volts to even attempt it.
Your phone will never run faster than 710mhz stable, if that's what you can get. There is no possible way, other than buying a different phone, to make it run any faster.
I'm still interested to see if anybody can actually run their phone at 864mhz without it crashing, for those few people, they might be able to go faster.
@wbaw , thanks for the info.
Surprised to hear that no one attempted to overvolt msm7227 . I feel it is still a great cpu with adreno 200 included and many current low end phones are having it.
i can get 748 on performance i had it for about half an hour with no reboots

Why would you need to overclock so high? Do you want it to explode! xD
Seriously though, would probably advise against it. It's like a whole 700/800 MHz higher than it's meant to run at stock. I'd say it would be very unstable, and probably wouldn't get very far battery-life-wise. 1.6GHz really not enough :/

1.6ghz is ok? or i'll risk something?
I did that speed already. But it is very very unstable. random reboots within 10 minutes of use. also the battery life is very low. and the whole tablet is to hot.
i only was using it to see how fast it could go. that was the max. i am at Cutom Rom - 07/10/2012 - [email protected] Edition V02 - The Ultra Fast Rom - based on last Asus Firmware 10.4.2.13 at this moment.
this is very stable. balanced speed is 1.3 and thats oke. Normal performance speed is 1.6 but i only use that when playing games. You dont need those high speeds for daily use.
If you have the financial means to buy a new tablet - you can try all the time to work on this frequency.
With 1,6ghz i'll risk to break the tablet?
i used 2.0ghz about a week daily use. But now im lowered it to 1.8ghz and it is stable my everyday use. and battery lenght is very good maybe better than stock (i made undervoltage, so cpu uses -50mv less power in any speed than normaly/stock )1.8ghz use 1150mv and lowest speed use 775 mv)

well, if you raise voltage up it may help, but i thing the problem is, that every tablet cpu is "diffrent" than other. This i mean, that these cpu is specsed in other speed than 1.6, 1,8 or 2.0ghz, and some invidiuals might work good in these higher speeds, some get randon reboots / freeze, or some of cpu:s dont even boot higher speeds. (i found out that when few people test my kernel, and it not even booted. And someone it will work fine.) This thing can "cross" by made kernel force cpu speed 1.0ghz at bootup (and i made this my kernel)
Also these tf300 tablet is manufactured atleast couple of diffrent cpu type /cpu id, so kernel have to had support all of these overclocking
It just like computers, some cpu can overclock higher than others, and if you go too high you need extra cooling, and in tablets, it is not possible, like normal pc's
*Most of this is my conclusion only, it may not be 100% accurate truth, but this how i see this thing. And if someone knows better etc, you can correct me *

I'm currently going where no developer would go before my customized kernel has 26 CPU frequinces all up and a max of 2.3GHz
But without the GPU overclock and a 8mb GPU memory vs Lupus and dooms 4mb

Needed an extra cooler solution and an powerful battery, like Mugen 3600mAh, to maintain this level of OC for diary use. Would be amazing!

Wait, what? Lupus Kernel offers increased amount of VRAM?
IMHO this is perfectly fine if you don't care so much about the device, otherwise you would be crazy. OC'ng so high will eventually cause in-reversable damage. I know what your doing so no need for me to ask questions But even if its stable for you it wont be for others all depends on the chip and as we know each is different. Also even if people don't use 2.x ghz frequencies tend to jump to the highest for a mili second if even on boot, causing problems with the device actually booting.
Well just my 2 cents on OC'ing...

What about 2 cents on this VRAM apparently being doubled?
At the end of the day its not GMEM which is essentially like a processors cache. Our chip has 256kb of it. But the allocated VMEM, would upping it to 8MB provide any sort of performance increase?

Can you post some benchmarks for the CPU? And also tell us more about the VRAM... Did it make any difference?
I believe that the Xplay has good chances of reach 2.0GHZ, running fine, provided has an good thermal solution. In my test, the games run fine for some minutes, before start overheat. Needed of somebody to build an custom cooler, then, make some tests. In my opinion, the safe clock, for sure, is not only 1.6GHZ. Only for default cooler.
