[Q] Bootloader Screen & Factory Reset - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello everyone,
Pardon me if someone has the same problem like mine, and solutions have been found. My hd2 doesn't go into bootloader screen with pressing volume down key, but instead it loads magdlr 1.12 then DFT team's Android 2.2. The problem is my hd2 gets hot after a short usage, and then froze (or sometimes restart automatically). It happens more frequently now as I have this problem for some time now.
I have had good times using Android and WP7 with this phone, but for now, it's barely usable with overheating problem (I believe). If someone could point me a way to get back to original factory WM 6.5, I would really appreciate it.. Thank you ahead..

does your volume down key work ?

if you can get into bootloader just write a stock rom... if that fails at 8 % or 9% just put you phone in freezer ( without battery) for 5 - 10 min and start flashing
best regards from me

thanks for your response and suggestions..
Yes my volume down key work in Android... cooling the phone down would solve the problem but this isn't practical with very sensitive overheating :'(

So i think ive bricked my iMate Jasjam but im not 100% sure spent hours reading...

Hey Guys,
Although this is my first post i have been reading and reading up about my iMate Jasjam and all of the other stuff that goes with it... Now whats happened is ive gotten this phone/pda for nothing with a sound issue that ive now fixed , it was running a rom with windows mobile 6.5. It was fine for almost 4 days but out of nowhere it wouldn't come out of idle or sleep mode where the screen is black and you just tap the power button to wake it. So i turned the phone off and on and managed to get it to boot into windows mobile but it froze, after this it wouldn;t go past teh load screen. I then removed memory card , battery and sim , still no boot afterwards... I then attempted to use the SD card to boot an original rom onto the phone but it comes up with "loading" for a few seconds and then just sits in the tricoloured screen and won;t budge.
Unfortunatly it appears the phones never had the hardspl done on it so if i can revive him ill definatly do this so it doesn't happen again... If i turn the phone on now it just hangs on the first load screen , ive still got GSM but im not very able with utilising the table to solve my problem... i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the best way to try and revive it! it's a great little phone and i was using it heaps and heaps , had and did everything i wanted and would be such a shame to see it go as i got it for nothing, repaired it etc..
Thanks in advance and my appoligies if this is a stupid noob question.
Mick
You could try a hard reset, hold both "soft keys" (above windows and ok keys) while hitting reset, then the "R" on the slide out keyboard then space.
You should also be able to flash it from boot loader. Hold the power and side ok buttons while hitting reset, and you should end up in the tri colored boot loader, flash the at&t stripped rom from there (found in my sig below).
Then you can load hardspl. Then you should be ready for some flashing. Just make sure to flash the stripped rom between the custom cooked roms, it will straighten out odd memory issues (no need to let the stripped rom configure, it seems just flashing it is enough).
Welcome to the world of playing and bricking/unbricking your device!

killing me softly - standy time of 8h

Hi all, i've just bought a new htc hd2 from vodafone and i was amazed by every aspect of the terminal but the battery time. I had initialy the RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_EastEurope_1.66.479.2_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship ROM and i thought that i should change it to a more optimized and newer version but that didn't happen with the new ROM : Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.21905.5.0.93_2.13_Radio_2.11.50.20_HG_V3.8 - still horrible battery time
I even tried some other optimization and tweaking tools : Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3.cab & BsB Tweaks 1.6.cab with no visible results.
After a full charge leaving the phone in standby with only phone link + data link over HSDPA (no music listening, no web browsing and the weather, stocks at the max sync time available) i can get a max of 8h standby time which is plain horrible.
I have tried different combinations of things nothing worked.
I have just deleted all links from windows/startup after a new full charge and turned off all radio operations. After 15-30 minutes of standby the terminal is already at 93%.
So i think i have a problem. Is it a bad battery ? If not what could be eating up so fast the battery even in "flight mode" with all radio turned off ?
Did you guys ever encouter such a thing ?
What should i do ?
another weird thing : i did install a hspl in order to put in the new rom but i did it directly from a working environment cause i cannot seem to be able to either hard reset (vol up + vol dn + power) or enter bios (vol dn+power).
i saw another guy on another thread with the same issue.
i will not tempt fate and reflash it although i did it 4 times already with different roms.
is that even possible ?
how can i fix it ?
PS : although i am new to htc hd2 ... i still have and rommed like a 1000 times an old mio a701 so i consider myself knowledgeable.
update : after 90 minutes of plain standby with all radio off i am at 85% charge - so i am officially worried and need your advice on this !!!
Just a suggestion concerning the hardreset/bootloader: Did you really hold the Vol.Buttons until the tri-coloured screen appeared or did you release them before?
i had the buttons pressed all the time no tri color hspl screen , just the plain htc white screen normal boot. even tried it after a shutdown and reinsertion of the battery to be sure. same result:
normal boot : no hard reset or enter bios/hspl/tri color screen (which i can only see if i install a new rom using usb within the working OS, force reboot and enter hspl from the custom rom install program)
Did you use HSPL2 (recommended) and chose HSPL 2.08 or the normal/old one? Did you already try to install HSPL again?
i have installed the original hspl only once. no hspl2.

Then try HSPL2 instead. Its more secure, you can choose the version and easily return to stock SPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
DONT USE IT IF YOU HAVE A USA TMOB HD2 (But as i saw in your 1st post you dont have a 102MB Leo, right?)!!!
yes you are correct it is not a 1024 mb version.
i've just installed hspl 2.08 but before that i checked again the battery status : after 3 standby hours with all radio off the battery is at 70%.
just tried entering hspl : same result : it will not work by using hardware keys. it only works if it is initiated by usb via pc with a installer that tells the device to enter hspl. i am attaching a capture to confirm.

Hmm only thing i can imagine is a defective hardware. Do your Volume buttons (especially Vol.Down) work properly when using the device...?
the volume hardware keys are working just fine for volume operations.
can this be some kind of vodafone thing ? Although i bought it from them
it isn't locked or with a vodafone logo on it.

No it has definately nothing to do with VF. To more suggestions. Try the following:
Take out the battery for at least one or two minutes, take out the storage card, insert battery and try HR again.
In the past i made two mistakes because of which a HR didnt work:
1. i HELD the powerbutton instead of tapping it (but u can also try holding it, maybe its different on your device... saw p.ex. starbase 64 doing this on youtube)
2. i didnt press the two volume keys hard enough and released them too early ( i know i already mentioned that but just to be sure )
tried it both with tapping and holding down power button (while holding down volume down button) without the 8gb storage card in it ... no effect whatsoever...the first thing it does is vibrates and starts up normally with the white htc boot screen.
and of course the same is with the hardware reset .... i am wishing that i never bought this phone ... let's say that the hardware reset of hspl issue isn't that pressing ... but the battery issue is actually making me think of throwing it down the toilet ... but i'll refrain for after i get and test a new original battery.
Witht the 2.11.50.20 radio my hd2 with standard battery is using less than 1% of the battery per hour in standby mode. In full usage, with the wifi on and the cpu being hammaered it's 3% per hour at the most. I have fully discharged my battery several times when it was new. so you may want to let the battery run a dead a few times in a row or mebbe replace the battery.
A hard reset took me two atempts the first time. Holding both volume buttons down just right is a little tricky. So i seriously doubt that the phone is defective or vodafone have modified it (vodafone actually have a policy of not making any modifications to the devices themselves) but i think it is a small case of user error

LOL sure !!! What do you have? A nuclear-battery? A car battery? 33Hours of full usage? No way!!! People in this forum are talking about max 6-7 hours WiFi surfing or 4-5 hours of movies (both far away from using 100% backlight --> 40% or similar) and you tell us you can use your phone for 33 hours? Do me a favour, dont make users who already feel uncomfortable with their phone even more uncomfortable. That confuses users and is just not true.

Calm down!!! I was talking about a combined cycle and i turn things like the wifi off when i'm not using them and it's not like i have the time to spend 6 hours straight using the wifi. I always put the phone into standby when i'm not using it and never put it on charge untill the battery get's below 5% full. I also never use bluetooth. I have no need for it.
These are all tips that allow a very long cycle between charges. If users are uncomfortable with their devices then they have 2 choices. Get something else or do what i do and treat it with a massive amount of respect. They can also try updating they radio firmware from 2.06, 2.07 or 2.08 and use 2.11.50.20 because in standby it barely uses any power at all. I'm also using a 3.01 based rom which also seems to help lower battery consumption.

[HELP] Touchscreen not working!

Touchscreen dead!!!
I was working normally with an android build (cedesmith desire HD) making a phone call; when i finished the screen was normally locked; i tried to unlock but the screen didn't respond however the buttons did respond.
Since i couldn't access the menu to make a reboot i removed the battery to relaunch windows than the build and i was shocked when i found that the touchscreen is no more working in Windows also!!!
I had bad signs before of that, because the screen did freeze completely in the morning (but with buttons working) so i restarted and everything worked well!
I tried to:
-restart many times that didn't work
-removed both sim card and SDcard to see if they are the problem but they weren't
-removed battery for 3 hrs and then reinserted it and that didn't work after reboot
-wiped the windows data (complete format Volume up+Volume down+power buttons)
ALL of that and the touchscreen is not responding!
Any help please!?! Could the build have had damaged the touchscreen somehow?! Coz i am so delicate to the phone and it didn't fall or anything similar!
HELP PLEASE!!!
Try doing a task29 then install either a different WM rom or original rom and see if that fixes it.

Can i do a task 29 without the need to use the phone?! (sorry but i ever did it before; i will be reading a bit )
over heating problem
the same has happened to me on 3 phones all u can tell you that there is no fix unless you change the digitazer..when running android in some builds the phone heats up n that can bring this kind of problems. i used to download big files (ROMS) using the phone while charging...the phone at times was warm, but many times it got very hot. my advice send the phone to repair, but first make it stock.
This happened to me about a week ago. Had to have it replaced. There is no other way.
This happened to me as well, but I had my phone undervolted and underclocked. So it isn't just the heat produced when running Android.
Could everyone to whom this has happened please report 2 things in this thread, so that we can determine if Android really is causing long-term damage to our phones:
- What the symptoms were
- Whether or not you were overclocking your phone

-The symtoms were:
-The screen froze twice in android, so i had to remove battery and it went all good until it froze finally
-No overclocking, no underclocking... nothing, just the default config with the default kernel
However i am pretty sure that it's not the screen itself that is faulted! It's something that powers the screen, maybe a sensor or i dunno what! That is because:
-from every 10 restarts that i perform the screen works once and perfectly normal and smooth even with just a slight fingertip!
-no good reason that the screen itself goes bad: it didn't fall, it didn't get water or anything, i didn't twist it or push hard, it didn't got hot (at least as far as batstat apk shows)...
What could it be!?!? that's the question....
Besides i have no warranty, and one store said it would replace the screen for 85$ (others said 100 and 150!!)
i had same problem , its not hardware fault OR software , it seems like a driver command bug , i dunno , im not a technician , but odly the touch interface will work 1% of the time , to make it awaken more easy is to hold the volume up button while pressing a hardware key when the screen is OFF , this seems to tell the phone to use the touch drivers , i dunno why but it works for me , personally i blanme the cold weather for causing some kind of hardware/driverr bug

[Q] Touchscreen Problem

Alright, so here's my problem. My touchscreen won't response to any finger movement. I could press the hardware buttons like power, volume and talk and it response to that but my problem is mainly trying to get inside my rom. I tried flashing rom via NAND and via clockwork mod and nothing helps. The G Sensor seems to work just fine because it rotates the screen when I'm inside my ROM. I could go back into MAGLDR but I don't think anything there is going to help?
Has anyone else experience anything like this and if so, what did you do to solve it?
had same problem, found a FIX
i have had same problem past couple of days. i was running darkstones SuperRAM_FroYo_V1.5 build with oz 2 cleanex rom. i know that every now and again it would be a pain to unlock the device with the agonising wait for the lock screen to show up but this time the touch screen would not work at all not recognising any movement and not dragging the unlock button across. i would have to take the battery out and restart, even some times touch screen would fail completely when in winmo too, got to a point when 3 days of working then not working and taking the battery out a million times to boot back into android to unlock the device, then touch screen died completely.
FIX- Hard reset
will reset windows mobile. all data on device will be lost.
hold down up-vol key and down-vol key, soft reset button and then power button till it displays formatting screen. follow on screen instructions.
hope this helps.

I have this problem and have found no way to fix it, I have tried everything except possibly going to the clk loader instead of magldr. when i put the phone to sleep with the power button is when i have the issue of not being able to unlock my phone in Android. I have tried task 29, going back to original windows roms, sd and nandroid, it is a hardware issue related to the digitizer as far as I'm concerned. I love my HD2 and really need to fix or find another one. I know this doesn't help, but maybe a little more insite if nothing else
I had the same issue. With my 1st HD2 it started as an intermittent problem, then eventually completely stopped working. With my replacement it just started to happen again. I immediately flashed back to stock tmo windows and the touchscreen would work so long as I did not try and put the phone on standby or wake the phone using the end key. If the phone went to standby on its own, the touchscreen would not work either. I changed the settings so that the phone would not go into standby at all. I then learned that locking the phone from the windows menu and allowing it to go to standby that way somehow averted the touchscreen problem. After 2 days, the problem seemed to resolve itself, almost completely. If I try and wake it using the end key, the touchscreen still wont work, but every other button on wake works. Also, putting it in standby with the end key seemed to not cause the problem any longer.
I dont know if the issue varies per person, but what worked for me was going to stock windows for a couple of days, then starting over with android. I guess it depends on how far along the problem has progressed.
Look at my thread in my Sig about the Unresponsive Screen Solved. This sounds exactly as that. And there are various workaround solutions through out the post.

[Q] Blackstone freeze on startup after task 29

Hey people, I usually upgrade roms on my blackstone, been 2 years now, all fine, until yesterday after a task 29.{Ypsmav rom} My phone didn't want to start, eternal freeze on start up with the htc logo ..
Can you kindly help me please.Tried several HR, to no avail..
This happend to me, this is what i did to fix it:
Take the batery of the phone
Wait a few minutes and put the batery back on
With the USB Cable unplugged press the Volume Down button and then the Power Button
Plug the USB into the phone (Don't do anything else to the phone)
Run the ROM you downloaded
Select Task 28 and upgrade.
It worked with my Touch HD
task 29 completely formats your phone, including the rom partition, so of course it cannot boot into windows mobile, there is currently no windows mobile on it!
as already pointed out, you need to flash a rom again.
Hm, Got it resolved . Thxs anyway
Hey guys!
I hope it´s ok to use this thread for my question...
I have a big problem with my old Blackstone... I didn´t use it for a long time (because I got a HTC Desire and a Galaxy Tab). Now i started the phone, but it won´t boot. It stucks at the boot screen (HTC Smart Mobility)...
So far so good... So I thought, I´ll do a Hard Reset... Then I saw that the VOL-Buttons are broken... So, HardReset with VOL-Button won´t work.
Is it possible to flash the phone via USB (ActiveSync doesn´t work...)?
Or is the phone broken?
Thanks in advance for help!
Cya
without the use of the volume buttons, it is next to impossible to get the device working again, since your device does not boot into winmo nor can you access the bootloader mode to flash it. your only chance would be to get the volume keys working again, have you tried using them without the back cover and pressing them really deep?
Hey.
Yeah, I've tried to get the Buttons work again, but keys are definitly broken. Something seems to miss on the buttons, so I think the are broken...

since you do have another phone, you might want to consider giving away/ selling your blackstone.
lately, i think there are more and more threads with people that have problems with their displays and/or digitizers and they might be willing to buy it for parts or you could donate it to the developers of xdandroid, so they finally have a device to test it on.
or you could search and download the htc blackstone service manual pdf and disassemble the device yourself to fix the buttons.
