SGS concerns/issues (freezes, yellow tint) - Galaxy S I9000 General

I recently sold my i9000 and the buyer has some questions/concerns (in red).
Details:
16gb version
Stock JVO
(I bought it right when the i9000 came out, so it's one of the first)
1) "The phone freezes at times and I have to take the battery out and restart it, you know whats up with that?"
Does gingerbread have more freezes then froyo? I think it might be certain apps.
2)"I am tying to connect the tv out cable to my monitor via DVI, but I get nothing on screen."
I included the nokia tv usb cable, BUT i also included an adapter for rca to vga/DVI. I am not surprised it doesn't work, since it's made for RCA (not dvi). Any thoughts on this?
3) "Is the phone repaired? screen changed maybe? I see a yellow tint on the screen compared to my vibrant"
What color adjusting tools are available for gingerbread? I know the speedmod kernal has color tuning, but I can't think of any gingerbread apps for color adjustment.
Thanks to anyone who responds.

1) it depends when you installed JVH on the device, JVH was in BETA mode for quite some time, so some bugs could still remain, Was this official JVH or through samfirmware or similar ?
2) Also depends on the above, Does this version of Gingerbread support TV out ?
3) There are some apps / kernels that can adjust screen colours - try the voodoo control app, it requires root and supporting kernel.
Firstly i would tell this "Guy" to do a full factory reset / then if problems persist swap ROMs and see if there is any difference, Then i would say "tough ****" sold as seen and delete his future messages lol --- Joke
Sorry if i aint been much help, its been so long since i was on a samsung based ROM, i forget the way they work lol

1) Double checked, it's actually JVO, not JVH.
2) I don't know. When I tried it, I was using Froyo. I will have to ask him to go to the display settings menu and check for TV out.
Thanks for your reply.

flashtool?!?!
reinstall drivers?!?!
USB port on X10 is getting disabled
I'm hearing your pain. It sounds odd and many people have not encountered this problem, so it is hard to even explain, harder to understand it, unless it's happened to you I guess.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034997
New battery will help, if you can get another stock X10 and get some charge back into your battery, this is the first problem overcome.
Next you need to get the USB port to work, there is nothing wrong with your computer. It seem's the USB port gets disabled onboard in the X10 firmware somehow and I'm looking into how. Will let you know when I know more but it seems this is going like wildfire with many X10 owners at the moment - myself included - I can not get my phone to detect SEUS and just bought a new battery, which got drained inside of 10 minutes.
FYI - Wolfbreak CM 6.5 v5 was the firmware I was running at the time the problem came to occur for me. This is based on the FreeX10 Beta4, modified by TriPNraVeR and then again modified by Wolfbreak. I'm not sure how far back this problem goes but it is appearing to be across the board on any Froyo variants.
@rendeiro2005, if this is the case, are any of your ROM's also based on the same firmware? If so, you have just seen the issue, it's happening to people in masses at the moment and is not just a simple SEUS or FlashTool fix... the USB port has become disabled on the X10.
I've been into xRecovery and done a factory wipe, which clears all user data, but after that had a few minutes of green LED, then a white led, crashedm and not able to get back in at the moment. I'm working hard to find a solution

Archos 101 - USB Dead - affected by Turbomode?

Hey guys,
sadly i have to mention - my external USB port also just died...
After contacting archos they told me to reset the revice completely and reinstall - but it didn't help.
As i dont have a recipe anymore - i can't send it in to fix
Well anyway - I never had problems with the device or the USB - but recently I switched my device to settings->deviceinfo->energy...->turbomode the 1st time.
Beside it's draining battery like hell now even with just being idle (suspended) it crashed 1 day ago - having LCD backlight on but showing a black screen (btw my usb keyboard was plugged in meanwhile and the charging-cable was also plugged in).
Next start the USB port didn't react to anything anymore...
(keyboard-lights just turn on shortly (<1s) on plug in and thats all)
(lsusb shows just the 3 default entries: 2 hsot controlers + touchscreen id)
So i assume its dead...
Anyway - after the shock I tried to figure out what I changed the past days an all I can remeber was the turbomode... did anyone make the same experience perhaps?
Eventualy we can figure out the acutal problem of dying USB ports... (if they are not just dieing randomly...)
I searched the internet alot regarding this problem:
Some ppl say its software affected - but i can't really believe since the reset should help obviously... (unless its something deeper in firmware...)
Also the fact that anyone who send in his/her device recieved another device after speaks for some hadware failure...
On the other hand there are 2 host controllers on our archos device (1 for the touchscreen as it seems) and the other 1 for external USB... why is just 1 of em dying all the time?
I had my first unit replaced because the USB was dead after a few months, Board v6; the replacement was a v5 and the USB lived hardly 2 months, the died, too... I did not do anything particular that should have caused this; it really seems it is a weakness in the hardware design; Archos has never admitted that, always suggesting fixes that never worked for anyone and saying, they wouldn't know this is a common problem... I am not the only one having two devices in a row with that problem; I have given up on my USB now and also given up on Archos due to their response on this. Also FW-Updates seem to add more problems than fixes for months now and I downgraded to 2.1.08 recently to get a device that at least works smoothly with whats left... If iPad-owners can live without USB so can I, I suppose... There is always Dropbox, and several tools for filetransfer via WiFi, and the SD-Card-Slot to substitute for a USB-Drive etc. (For my next tablet I might even wait and see, what Windows 8 brings, could become interesting...) Archos as a manufacturer of Tablets has become a no-go for me after this experience. I don't like being lied to, if they made a mistake and admit it, I could trust that the next generation might be better, but like this I would presume to be lied to again so trust in the brand is gone even if they start making it better...

Got a v6 too, also replaced by a v5 which lasted at least over a half a year or something. ****ty stuff, srsly
Same here, usb port stopped working after about a year. Not that it mattered - it was useless, only a few usb devices would work correctly. I transfer all my files to the device using the microsd card now. I don't use the tablet very often but I'm very disappointed on Archos. And this isn't my only problem. It was supposed to support HD video playback (even bought the plugins - something which others offer for free) but only a few MKVs will play without stutter.
They won't even bother updating the console with android 2.3!
This is why companies close these days..
@FrEcP - if you registered your device when you 1st got it, and assuming it is still within it's warranty period, you should not need a receipt.
regarding the comments on video playback by other posters - the gen 8 Archos devices have the best video playback support inc HD bar all but the very latest high powered devices, and the plugin is not even required to enable any of the HD formats - it's for mpeg2 (dvd) and AC3 audio only. Providing the files are within the devices specification re resolution and profile, it plays pretty much anything asked of it.
Hi chulri, thx for your root - now that i downgraded to 2.1.08 via SDE anyway, I took the one simple step left to apply your permanent root - and could thus deactivate the daos.apk etc.
As for video, I noticed that 720p HD works perfectly with the Archos-Videoplayer but 1080 plays more like slow motion... 1080 I tried was a MOV or WMV though, not sure, and if I recode stuff for general use I convert anything to 720p MP4 264 with AAC Audio - resulting in up to half the size for similar quality-settings (720 to 720) and of course more significantly smaller going from 1080 to 720. What would be left to try is converting the "slomo"-1080 wmvs to 1080 mp4 264 and see how the 101 handles that... 1080 on the 101 is quite pointless anyway unless playing back via hdmi...
You don't have to try that, as it will not work.
The Archos is using the gpu for videodecoding and that can't handle 1080p/i so softwaredecoding is used.
And for all the people out there that still don't get it, Archos advertises [email protected] with a max of 5Mbs and not [email protected] 5 ( which is used in Animes these days).

Advertise it where? I see no such thing on the box, in the instructions leaflet nor I've seen anything like that in any of the ads or information in their web site (at least there wasn't when I bought the tablet). The only reason people know of these limitations is because there were people disappointed of the HD capabilities of the device and started asking Archos support questions about it!! Not to mention that "supports the widest range of music and video formats up to 720p HD video" as it mentions on the box couldn't have been any further from the truth since for mkv (ac3) playback you have to pay for the plugins to even get the 3.1 profile support you've mentioned! "Supports a limited range of music and video formats and you have to pay for a few more" would have been truer..
Michael
I fail to see what this has to do with "Archos 101 - USB Dead - affected by Turbomode" which is the title of this thread...

What does it mean didn't react to anything.... really nothing?
Have you already inspected dmesg output?
May try with USB stick instead of your keyboard.
Some sticks also claim to use more power than others...
You might examine this with lsusb as well, most "tell" the host they will consume 200mA.

I don't think there's a side effect with turbomode... though i can't tell for sure.

From what i found out during hardware investigations is, that there's a DCDC voltage converter that is responsible for the 5V power supply of the type A USB connector. Maybe the converter is to weak for currents above 200mA.
E.g. the kernel hack used on Uruk allows to switch on the USB power for devices claiming up to 500mA (as specified for USB).
There's nothing wrong with this at first sight, but maybe Archos did choose some of the components to weak to deliver this current.
My suspicion is that this converter might die slowly or there's some kind of inrush current while activating a device.
This might kill the chip.
Unfortunately i was not able to identify the manufacturer and model of the chip, i only know the location on the mainboard.
I'm sorry that i can't really help on this issue, but maybe some day there will be light
You might try one thing:
Use a self powered hub and connect it to the Archos, then insert USB device again...
Any difference?
Good luck!
scholbert
I would suspect, that it does not have to do with the power-consumption, since the same hardware that used to work all the time suddenly stops working...
Also, when the USB is dead the port still delivers power, but does not recognize any devices any more. It seems whatever gets broken has more to do with dataflow than with power-supply...
always nice to hear for u scholbert
>What does it mean didn't react to anything.... really nothing?
Well - as i said - the power light light up for about 20ms then noting happens anymore
>Have you already inspected dmesg output?
neither "dmesg" nor "lsusb" show any different output while plug in.
>May try with USB stick instead of your keyboard.
tried a wireless keyborad, a wired keyboard and a usb-stick all just seem to have power for some milliseconds.... then noting else can be noticed.
The only interseting difference i noticed is:
If i have my Keyboard plugged in while startup all lights (capslock,...) light up and STAY ON. Till i pull the plug. Then its like before...
Sadly an USB-Hub (powered) will neiter be recognised... (same bahaviour)
What i noticed - if i resome the device (after is was powered on) there are several wake up commands in dmesg for the screen and the usb hubs...
But it doesnt seem to me that the 2nd hub will get resumed proper... unless those command invoke both of em at once.
What does it tell for u when resuming the device?

If it operates at some limit point it might work for while without any problems.
Then it might suddenly stop working...
This is typical for hardware defects (overheat, ESD, other weird things...)
Anyway, i never got these problems, so it's just a kind of "feeling".

This is new information for me... sounds logic to me.
BTW have you measured the voltage at the port?
It might also be that the device sticks in enumeration at some point.
Let me point out the following thesis:
1. USB device gets plugged into the port
2. OMAP gets an interrupt and is told there's something happening at USB
3. OMAP listens
4. USB device send identifier, power request for full operation.... (enumeration)
5. OMAP gets it, tries to enable power to match requirements and waits for ACK
6. USB device didn't get enough current for operational state and fails
7. ???
There should be something in dmesg though, so just a thesis

That really sounds that there's still some power... like voom already pointed out.
Any measurements if there's some voltage drop or something?
Will need some equipment to do so, i guess.

I must admit, right now this tells me nothing...
Have to think about it.
Maybe we should compile a kernel with full debug output, at least for the USB part. This way we might get a clue what happens...
I wish a day would have some extra hours
Anyway i'll try to have a look in the kernel sources... looking for debugging as well.
Might take some time though, so you might try it yourself.

scholbert
Thanks for the reply- well we are a bit further now as it seems.
Since archos released the lastest firmware .82 wich fixes this"bug" partialy
Anyway - the USB is working again with this version - but just until the device goes into standby without having an usb-device connected. Then u have to reboot to get it working again.
(all is fine if the device goes into standby with device connected)
So the big question is - what happens in between?
Well at least we know its software related now
I will check back dmesg again with this new firmware - and repost.
So the full debug kernel would be a nice idea - can u give me some adives how 2 start? I really have no clue about that yet.
I already compiled kernels in old suse 6.0 days but I think it will be different for "external" devices - I remember having read something about toolchain,...
tried a wireless keyborad, a wired keyboard and a usb-stick all just seem to have power for some milliseconds.... then noting else can be noticed.

With the dead port if I plug in a USB-Stick that has LED it lights up and then the light stops, while if it works (as it used to with working USB-Host on the Archos or when used with the PC) the LED stays on and constantly changes brightness. This LED behaviour is related to functioning dataflow.
On the other hand if I plug in a mouse with decorative LEDs in the dead port, the decorative LEDs, not related to dataflow, stay on, even though the mouse is not recognized. If I plugin a device that can be charged by USB it even shows that it is charging, though energyflow is probably not high enough to make that a practical use. Again in this case only the energyflow is relevant but no data activity.

[Q] Sudden strips on the screen

# Sorry for my poor english.
Hi there. For quite a while I've been using CloudyROM G3, then I wanted to change it, first, for Optimus G3, then Spiderio, finally ending today on stock. During last two days I've tested few roms and few kernels, including Dorimanx's, stock, and few more from the first page on the forum.I've been dealing with some white and various color strips coming thru my screen and I have no idea both where are they from and how to solve that problem. It effectively stops me from normal using the phone; on the photos below, there is a "first stadium", lets name it that way, it can be only worse, erven to the point, when the whole screen is covered by white horizontal strips. As I thought it might be caoused by changing roms and kernels, I've decided to flash stock from .kdz file, but the problem is still here.
What I find quite interesting, the problem never shows up when the phone is connected via usb to computer or plugged for charging. After unplugging it can cause problem immediately, or not at all, weird as hell.
I hope you can give me some advices, how to deal with that, if not, I'd have to give it back for the guarantee, but it means two weeks without the phone :/
I hope you can find the solution!
Image - oi60.tinypic.com/2rfr8qw.jpg
Sorry for ****ty quality, it was made via my tablet..
EDIT - to be clear, the phone is now working on stock kitkat 4.4.2 from kdz, it's europe open d802 for 32gb and in addition i cant wake my phone by double-tapping on it but I could have on another kernel, like Cloudy's or Dorimanx, yet the strips were there also.
THE PROBLEM IS SOLVING IMMEDIATELY WHEN I PLUG THE DEVICE VIA USB, WTF?

[Issue] Samsung Galaxy j500FN multiple problems

Hi everybody!
This forum is my last try to repair my Samsung Galaxy J5-J500FN
I will try to explain all the issues, but my english is not perfect, sorry
I have reseted my phone yesterday using the Volume/Menu/Power buttons like we can see in the Internet. Everything was going right, except the fact that Google asked me for an email address during the new installation. I lost this email so i tried to bypass it using an OTG USB as we can see on YouTube videos.
At this moment, I just broke the phone, because now there are several issues that even a full hard reset can't fix.
My Samsung J5:
overheats (a lot, i promise)
don't charge anymore (there is the thunder in the battery icon, but it doesn't charge anymore)
[Edit] : Thuder don't appear when phone is off, it just appears when phone is on, in the miniicon.
when charge cable is plugged, touchscreen doesn't work
when charge cable is plugged, a little light appears in the flash light (not full light, but something like a very little light)
the phone is ultra-slow
battery is going very low fast (something like 50 > 0 in a few minutes)
I'm sure it's a software problem, because all my hardware is clean. I tried the battery in my other J5 and i've got no problem.
I've already tried to reset again, but no difference.
It's like i put a malware/virus in my phone using my OTG/USB wire and i can't remove it by a simple hard/reset or cache reset.
And i can't access to Settings, because my phone is blocked during reinstall
I don't have any root access (can't install TWRP or other (FRP lock))
If you have piece of advice or a solution, it wouuld be really great for me, thank you!!
Boulledogue
If you have FRP Lock then its best for you to download latest Samsung Galaxy J5 stock firmware and flash using latest Odin for Windows. You can download the firmware for your device at SamMobile, just google it.
Next time you should unlock OEM in development settings to prevent future problems with FRP.
Hope I Helped

Hello to all! I'm the current developer for Samsung Galaxy J5.
You have framework/kernel/userspace issues my friend!
The reason that your device behaves that way is that you loaded it with too many applications, and you are a very heavy user of a device.
Always flash a fresh ROM from SamMobile if you have such issues and want to keep bloated stock, or switch to CM which is pure Android source.
For heating problems:
Refer to my post in another similar Q&A HERE!

i flashed ur kernel before and cm rom same issues even when i go in twrp the phone is always in 43 - 46 ° do u know what's mostl likely the cause ?

Bricked my new MK809IV Please help....

well Yeah.. so i bought this stick just now on ebay thinking it should be good enought to give away for streaming some live tv and so on, but
this had obviously the WIFI problem and there i was..
Not beeing able to use WIFI i started to search for different roms and after a couple days constantly searching HOW TO- and downloading different ROMS and watching youtube on how to flash i set up to the task once again..
Beeing able to flash both Nvidia tablets, Samsung Telephones, and Xiaomi i felt confident that i would be able to fix this..
But no, i had a couple different roms that started up With start screen but then that was it, nothing more i couldnt get past start boot logo on either of the 3 roms i thought was correct so i startd to search for same chip roms as this has the 3229 rockchip and the AS something number wifichip..
But then after flashing With a unknown rom it wouldnt start up again or even get recogniced by the computer usb again..
I tried the reset button, i tried shortcutting pin 6-7 and most likely all other as well but no Luck..
There is a blue light but its only halfway as Bright as when the stick was ON and working.
So its like its stuck in some low Power recovery or i dont know..
At least it lights up when i plug it in.
this is the stick With the red "plastic antenna"
Its not an antenne after all by lokking at it but maybe it serves some purpose of making People think its an antenna..
Any suggestions will be apreciated as now i consider it as Waste and after just spending 35 USD on it i would like it to at least get it back so i can sideload some games on it and give it away rather than putting it in the trashcan..
I attach link to the crap i bought so you get the idea of what it is and to also avoid..
Thank you all for all help!!

well Yeah.. so i bought this stick just now on ebay thinking it should be good enought to give away for streaming some live tv and so on, but
this had obviously the WIFI problem and there i was..

Hi.
I think I have the same device as you. And also I tried to flash another rom without success, so until I find a good rom, its just a small brick.
I also been in the same situation as you, but you have to short pins 7-8 to revive. Its the pins facing the middle of the device, and counting from the device edge/side.
Good luck. If you find a working rom for it, let me know
No, i have had no luck. Piece of **** device.
Got 80% refund from seller after a couple weeks of complaining.
Just throw it away and buy a ZAPPATI media player or a Nvidia shield if you dont use any 3D.

Hi again.
If you ever revive your dongle, you can get a working rom from the following link:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rockchip-based-tv-players/rk3229-devices/firmware-roms-tools-bg/623420-mk809iv-rk3229-bricked-how-to-unbrick?p=646882#post646882
It worked for me
Thanks. I will try. Any tips in how to revive it??
I also have an mk809iv. I couldn't get developer options to show after tapping build number but it said "no need you are already a developer" (I assume its preunlocked?) I got bored and decided to flash a rom. I have the rockchip factory tool and rockchip batch tool. I tried flashing an update and the problems began lol
OK..... The stick now doesn't have a blue led on AT All. Tried original mains power source different USB cables different ports on laptop etc.
When I connect it to the TV it doesn't show up on the hdmi. Have I really fried it properly ?
Is there a way to use command on pc or adb shell or something to unlock the bootloader. In batch tool I can see the device after shorting pin 6/7 method but when I load firmware and start to flash then it comes up with failed at boot every time and on different versions of the tool.
I rooted the device before with King root (not king o root) and flashed supersu via rom installer app. Assuming that developer options are open by default, the device should be rooted now...... Right? ?
Anyway is there a way to uninstall all the software and reinstall the manufacturers firmware via the pc ? I have included pics of the board, but when looking at other people's pics the have a lot more chips and nand chips etc mine has one chip on the back and on the other side what I presume to be a heat sync (look like a bit of a tin can
Lol)
I have been on many forums for about 48hrs straight now ? and still can't find answers *sigh*
Recap:- 1 is it fried
2 if not can I sort it via pc
3 HOW?! lol
One last thing, would it run on cyanogenmod 11 ? it's an android device running kit kat and my gingerbread S2 is now on cm11 or are the internal "gibbons" different ?
Many thanks to anyone who can lend me a hand ??
