[Q] Atrix 4G America & UK Differences - Atrix 4G General

I just got a Motorola Atrix 4G off my friend from America - AT&T branded. However it is unlocked and I can use my sim, make calls etc.
I would just like to know what are the differences in the UK branded handsets & the American one, especialy regarding hardware/calls.
Thanks

Thanks god you can use your phone to make calls!
UK version is quad core with 6GB RAM a 320GB hard drive and a PS3 built in!
Also comes with a 46" flat screen lapdock!
You make calls in same way...............press numbers on dialer or select from contacts. A phone is a phone..............make calls same way either side of the pond!

Caelan that's a stupid answer, the guy just want to know the difference between UK & USA version.
And you just quoted on your beneficial post, you forgotten the word "unlocked" SIM so that's the reason he can make call with his own SIM

I was joking around dickweed!
Somebody dead once said "Why so serious???"

I activated my iPhone 2G last night, and left it on. Called AT&T this morning and they changed me from my 2GB plan straight to Smartphone Personal Unlimited.
This is awesome.

Phone capabilities?

I am very interested in the galaxy tab but I am wondering if it makes and receives calls on the carrier networks, namely verizon. I am one of the people who will lug the tablet around as my main phone. I see the phone app on the pictures around the net but I have yet to see it stated anywhere.

You will be sad to know the for the North American Tab the Phone/ Voice has bin removed from the list of options thats is being shipped from from Samsung. In the press conference today they stated that.
If they kept the microphone, this is Dev worthy.

no joke! i hope someone can get ahold of one of these ASAP and take it apart to see if it has the hardware.
I read somwhere that you just have to have a bluetooth or regular headset.

I'm hoping this is just a software thing for having the phone feature disabled on the US version of the Tab.
Imagine the looks you would get holding a 7inch tablet to your ear? LOL. Well a wireless headset or a set of earphones is in serious need. Hopefully the devs here can sort something out if the tab has the hardware for it.
it does have 3G voice and data hardware

Well that is awesome then, I will go back to the idea of me wanting one again... Ill use my g1 until a modded rom comes out if one isnt out by the time it releases stateside...
I dont plan on holding it to my head during a call even though I might just to be funny..lol.. i barely use my phone (for voice calls) which is why im so concerned with merging it into my tablet because it would be just an app for me... which is the way I like it.
Every review I've read of the US-based versions of the Galaxy Tab (for AT&T/Verizon/Sprint) has said that the Tab will NOT work as a phone.
(sorry, newbie post so I can't post full URL...endgaget has the story)
Skype and other VOIP services work, but not regular EDGE/3G phone calls. Combined with the so-far announced pricing from the major carriers absolutely kills any desire for a Tab vs. either an iPad or a Dell Streak. I'm hopiing that some vendor will make a 7-9" tablet/phone combination in the near future.
That's the American version of the GT. The European and Asian GT DOES HAVE calling/3G functionality.

So, if I understand this correctly (?) unlike the iPad where it's 3G cannot use voice but only data, the G-Tab Euro version can connect via voice and make calls, but the US version cannot.... Does this mean the US (north American) model lacks the hardware? I am asking because the voice calling is important to me and I have ordered an unlocked US version but maybe I should go for the Euro version?
Euro tab - no 3g in USA but it has voice capability
Has tab - data and sms/mms and no voice capability
Pick your poison muchachos.
I am personally think about the Sprint version with 2gb/m for 399.99 and 29.99/m.
Why wont the Euro version have 3g? The unlocked Euro version from cellhut and Negrielectronics have everything we need. Should just pop in my AT&T SIM and off I go.
negrielectronics.com/samsung-p1000-galaxy-tab-3g-850-1900-2100-oem-unlocked
cellhut.com/Samsung-P1000-Galaxy-Tab-Unlocked-Quadband-GSM-Cell-Phone-Reviews-29956
If the tab has 3g radios, wouldn't there be a way to transfer voice over it? Of course some hacking would be needed, but i'm sure there is a way. If not, couldn't one just tether to the tab with a phone and then use that to make calls over a "wifi" signal?
To answer to the two previous posts:
Unless the Tab has the ability to change 3G bands (Like its cousins phones from Samsung line), the European version won't be able to have 3G over AT&T (Maybe T-Mobile if I recall well, not sure). However some other versions may be able to do so (The version from Telstra should have the right radio for instance and hopefully voice calls enabled)
Then... hopefully we may not be limited to VoIP on the US Tabs... I hope Samsung didn't really castrate the Tabs here and limitation is just a Software limitation. Just flashing the right Firmware / ROM could restore this function (But then you'll need a different plan than the one your carrier will let you subscribe)
All in all my plan (and hope) is we'll be able to enable the voice calls on the US versions. I'll buy it with no plan and will switch it with my TP2. If not... Then I'll be looking for a version elsewhere in the world that has the proper 3G bands and voice enabled

That's my thought as well. I purchased the HTC HD2 and used it w/o problem on ATT for more than a year even tho ATT never did specifically support it (which meant I could only get Edge speed - but the GT has 1900 UMTS and the full range of ATT voice GSM freq so it should work OK.
i bought the tab in germany and calling even without headset is very good.
the speaker quality is very good. makes it a brilliant conference phone
I seriously hope that the it is just a software lock because buying a the overseas version vs the u.s. Is a huge price difference , looking at the frequencies of tmobile u.s.a will the overseas version work on 3G here even though tmobile is 1700/2100 ?
When I use aDialer I press # and the number I try to call and it cuts off music and for a second a call icon pops up like something is trying to make a call then ends. If I dont hit # first then it doesn't even try to make the call

A New Dual-Sim variant of the Galaxy Note 2 has been announced!

Hey There,
Great Post. Seems good to have people already sharing useful information like that.
As a personal request though. Your signature size is a bit unreasonable. Could you please consider resizing or doing something else about it?
Thankyou
I want one if the price difference isn't too bad.
dual sim card sounds interesting, I'd have no need for it though. lol deftone
If it has the same specs as the Note II this will be a dual sim 3G world phone. Are there any other Android dual sim 3G world phones out there?
I wouldn't have a need for one but I guess it could come in handy if i wanted to put a prepaid sim in it.

Maybe, look on Google for ROMs for a regular device with a dual-sim variant. For example, the Galaxy Pocket and the Pocket Duos. They have the same specs just like the Note 2 and the Note 2 Duos do so look to see if anybody has flashed a Pocket ROM on their Pocket Duos. If they did, then I guess it would work.I think you can probably find it in a couple of days. Or you could order from China Mobile, the carrier with the device, and have it ship to you.

Dual SIM Note 2 would be awesome for a backpacking holiday. Local SIM as primary, with home SIM as secondary with its super expensive roaming charges. Each time you change country just swap out the primary.
I wasn't sure about Note 2 vs Note 1 but with 64GB internal, 64GB SD, dual SIM and Seidio case with kick stand and holster it will be an iresistable killer combo
Adding decent GPS App with locally stored maps and an external range boosting antenna would make it the ultimate travel phone

Sounds Good!
does anyone know what dual sim entails? can you have 1 sim for mobile broadband (with telco provider a) and 1 sim for minutes, SMS (with a separate telco provider b)?
both reading at the same time. the note 2 knows which one to use and when? so you don't clock up data on the wrong sim, and calls and SMS on the other?
thanks
The "classical" Samsung DuoS phones (at least mine and others I had in hand) let you choose a primary card that is used for everything by default and a special button that allows you to choose the secondary SIM card before making a call or sending sms. Web connection and other services always run from the primary card. Changing the assignment of the primary card causes a reboot.
Both networks are actively receiving calls/sms.
How this one is (or would be) done is hard to tell, not many people had it in hand (if it really exists). Unfortunately, probably not many people ever will.
Personally, I need two networks, so I carry a "phablet" without SIM plus classical DualSIM phone. DuoS Note would be cool.

Another bad news for Sprint users and ...

another reason to believe that Sprint GN2 may not have SIM slot.
We already know that previously Sprint Photon Q (made by Motorola) have SIM internally and unremovable. Now we know that there is another Sprint device Optimus G (made by LG) that will have the exactly similar design as far as SIM slot goes. (source here)
With the previous picture purposely a leak of Sprint GN2 device showing no SIM slot, this is likely to be a Sprint own evil doing.
And BTW I'm one very pissed about this. I 'll definitely sending a snail mail to Sprint Executive Office about how pissed I'm as a consumer regarding turning an international capable device into useless crap once the device come out. I go to Thailand every year or so to visit family member and when I am there I would definitely want to use SIM there because of the local number I can use. With unremovable SIM this is no longer possible. I'm very disappointed.
That's sucks, although I don't go over seas that much.. It would be nice to have. Tell them you Ben kohn bah and your red shirt friends don't approve of this.

It appears that this is the route they are going now. I wonder why that is? Does using the embedded SIM force you to use a Sprint International plan, for out of country use?
pardon my ignorance, but isn't the "international" version GSM...and sprint's, obviously gonna be CDMA? and as such, no SIM card?
---at least i've always assumed that SIM cards is something GSM phones use, while CDMA phones do not.

You're right, but some CDMA phones have radios that support at least EDGE on GSM so you can still text and make phone calls overseas (and if you unlock, you could run them on Tmo and AT&T).
However, the question is if the radios will even support the EDGE GSM bands... probably not though.

All of Verizon's LTE phones have a SIM card slot and all of their recent phones also have GSM/HSPA radios for global roaming. I believe some can even run on T-Mobile and ATT's frequencies if you are lucky. But LTE will be Verizon only.
would it be possible to flash a Verizon Note 2 to Sprint in order to have one with a SIM card?
There are so much of competition in market, they skipping features users can easily find alternative. Bad for users but too bad for manufactures. They should understand
Not sure if you saw, but someone has figured out how to remove the embedded SIM in the Photon Q and replace it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32593285#post32593285
Yea, but whose brave soul gonna do that on not even a month old GN2. And that's beside the point. Seriously, to me it seem like it would cost the manufacturor even more to make the SIM embeded than regular one.

I mean how many sprint phones even support GSM EDGE bands?
I don't use Sprint, so I don't know for a fact, but don't their phones usually only run on CDMA (I've only ever heard of Verizon CDMA "world-phones")
I know that the old Touch Pro 2(wm6) and Photon 4G both have dual GSM/CDMA chip in them and they both have SIM slot.
whats the significance in not having a sim card cause it seems like a good thing to me. unless its like tmobile and att network where you can get gsm phones
The significant isn't about whether it have SIM or not. I mean for most people in the US I think we can get by w/o it. I mean it's like once every year or two that people would go outside the country and can make use of it. So it wouldn't be like a final decision whether to get one w/ or w/o SIM. And you are right there are also AT&T and T-mobile. But I can say the for some people it's about the network in their local, while for other it may simply be about not going back to the service they have bad experience with. To me it's about cost, since I'm a Sprint SERO Premium account owner. But very, it's more about why walking the low path? The phone would have been technically capable of it, the chipset, modem, antana support it. This is more about why purposely redesign it to lock it down to a specific network, greed, basically.

Yes, the Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 most certainly had a SIM card slot. I had a few of them before making the jump to android with my EVO 4G. It was a nice feature to have on a "Business" phone, which is what the TP2 was geared towards. The productivity of the Note 2 also can be geared for Business users, a SIM slot would be of great use.
Ohh okk that makes sense. Cause I never go out of the country so its not that big of a deal for me. But I guess I'd you travel a lot it would be better to have one

Apparently Verizon figured out how to do it properly as they previously have had CDMA, but now allow removable SIM cards for their LTE world-phones. Sprint is now the only provider that locks their phones down like this- it's very frustrating. I am paying for a brand new device that is inherently compatible as a world-phone, but I must buy a separate device to use over seas so that I don't get raped with Sprint's international calling/data plans. RIDICULOUS! These kind of tactics are out of the apple playbook- limit the options of your customers, so you can squeeze em.

Guys, where do you bought it??
And if I buy from site as Ebay, why do these people always response late and is there a chance I get scammed?
Hey, u live in Germany, thats NEXT TO Holland, wanna sell it to me?
I just send one to (Germany Munich) works great on O2 and Tmobile DE
Its the time difference you guys are 7 hours ahead of us.
People tend to answer around 5-9pm US time which is after midnight ur time.
I been having great success getting them on ebay and Local craigslist.
Local so u can see the phone.
Ebay you have a buyer protection plan.
Though keep in mind it may take almost 1 month to arrive depending on shipping method and retarded customs.
Razr i or Razr M are ur choices.
Razr M 200-300 USD will cost you 175-250 EUro
Razr i is 300-500 Euro
So do your math what u want to do. It is a locked bootloader though on the M VZ the i Will be unlocked
Now the Galaxy S2 (i777) version is the one I bought for my GF sister.
Its a great phone but slower than the M. The Razr M also feels alot more premium compared to the cheap plastic feel.
I had both to play with, but the S2 has alot more custom rom stuff to play with.
You are able to damage the LCD of the S2 alot easier.
S2 has the ability to access the Battery the M does not.
The S2 chrome ring is prone to chip. The rear door feels flimsy
Oh and the S2 takes normal Mini Sim where the M takes Micro Sim.

Whats a local craigslist? [sorry my english is bad]
And is a micro sim more smaller than a mini sim [which iphone 4 uses]??
So, I have to cut my sim?
But is it really necessary to put that much efford just to buy a phone?
My last option would be the Galaxy s2 then

In the US Australia and Some European Country.
There is something like a Local Posting called Craigslist, you can buy and sell stuff, like a garage sale online.
(Free for most parts) And since it's local you have to meet them up and buy it form them like at a garage sale.
Just make sure you have some one else with you and meet up at a save secure location and its fine.
Mini-Sim is what normal phones tend to use, which the Galaxy S2 uses.
Micro-Sim is the size like the iPhone 4 and 4S
Nano-Sim is what the iPhone 5 uses
-You have to either cut a mini sim to Micro but it wont work unless u good/precise at cutting since
it has to be perfect else the Click mechanism won't work. Or just get a 5-7 dollar Sim card clipper (Like a hole puncher) make sure its Mini to Micro (not Mini to Nano
No its not much efford, I am with T-Mobile they just give me a Micro sim for free since i am already a customer.
T-Mobile also has Nano Sims if i wanted to go with an iPhone 5 (No cutting just go store and ask)
O2 also has Mini Micro and Nano Sim but they charge 5 Dollars to swap you over unless something happened to ur Sim (Damaged)
Hardware wise i did not like the S2 especially the wierd US veriations.
I do like the i777 which is an US variation by AT&T but it is the closest to International S2 with out the Physical button.
Software wise that phone has tons of support hardware wise its basic.
Hope that helps.
These are the screens shots of XT907 in Germany on O2 using OEM Verizon Rom (No Modified Aussie Radio)
She gets Edge(2G) and HSPA(3.5G) sometimes 3G(3G)Roaming
Though her current area has a lot of interference with electronics.
So in Germany/Europe this phone can run pretty much at is Max on stock ROM, except no 4G and LTE since Europe use 3.5G i believe.

Anything can be done, its all-ways about the money. If you deal with Euro then getting one over to you should be easy.
But if you use Lira or similar currency it may be expensive due to up-conversion.
These phones aren't quite cheap, sure... not as expensive as the stinken GoldBar of an iPhone but not as cheap so u can get one ever week.

Razr M not working in India (yet)
Hi, so I got my Razr M delivered today here in India. But when I put in my local Vodafone GSM, it showed me a message saying "Your SIM card is from an unknown source." I pressed OK, but it shows the emergency calls only symbol. I tried changing the network mode from CDMA to GSM/UMTS. Didnt work. Then I manually searched for available networks, and tried connecting to them. But everytime I got the same message: "Your SIM card doesn't allow connection to this network".
Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Did you find the solution?
Make sure you fresh ICS or JB firmware loaded.
And that it is not a modded Firmware.
Start with that. If that will not work you have 2 choices.
VZ Firmware with Aus Radio
VZ Firmware with 01 mod
Unless India is on the black list of the phone also which it should not be, u shouldn't have a problem.
My old boss just went back to Dubai with his and had no issues using his phone with local Sims.
Yeah it happens . I will soon post a list of things i have tried , this has something to do with actiavtion of verizon phones in the US and then using it abroad
VZ Firmware with Aus Radio --tried
VZ Firmware with 01 mod --tried

Galaxy Note 5 Users - Philippines

Welcome Samsung Galaxy Note 5 owners in the Philippines,
come and share your thoughts and reviews about the device here. :good:
i'm not in the P.I., but I'm really liking my N5d.
off-topic: why is the PI a market for dual-SIM phones?
(Sent from another Galaxy via Tapatalk)
Probably because it's so easy to get prepaid sim cards of different carriers =/ I myself bought one for about a dollar.

Because carriers here typically have very cheap offers for unlimited calling and texting to subscribers of the same network while its relatively more expensive to make calls (and text to some extent though this isnt the case so much anymore with texting) to subscribers outside the network. (and there are basically two carriers only competing)

I noticed that Smart sells an S6 duos in which both SIM slots are locked to Smart. seems odd for anyone to have two SIMs from the same network carrier.
by the way, if you've experienced using the S6/edge, then the N5 (and possibly S6e+) will virtually feel the same in processing. but if you're doing some more heavy multitasking, then you may feel the difference the extra 1GB RAM of the N5 offers. the screen real estate is always appreciated, but handling of the overall phone might be a thing people actually consider more and so they may go for the physically smaller handset. I mean, there are actual iPhoners who think the iPhone 6 screen is too big, and miss the smaller screens.

Hi, I thinking of buying the dual sim version. Can you receive calls on both numbers? I assume you have to specify which sim is used for data. Thanks in advance.

for Calls, there's the option to select either SIM or both. but I don't seem to be able to dedicate any one SIM - they both just work anyway (as long as I have service).
for SMS & MMS you only have the option to select either/or.
for Data, one SIM is dedicated to 4G/3G/2G while the other SIM is limited to 2G. or you can just turn data for both SIMs off while talk and sms & mms are still in service.
when you're making a call, you have two call buttons - one for either SIM.

make sure, first, that it will support the bands you need for the network you plan to use it on.

Preordered the Note 5 here in PH, haven't claimed it yet though.
http://www.samsung.com/ph/galaxy/note5/pre-order/
Just learned that no 64GB available here and 32GB without SD Card for expansion is a serious drawback.
I can live with no IR and no removable battery but lack of SD Card, with all that 4K video recording and all, is really a tough pill to swallow.
Just my two cents.

especially if you use the Cinema 4K app...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frozenvolcano.android.cinema4k
the native app records 4K @ 48 Mbps. Camera Mod (for S6/e) bumps it up to 70 Mbps. well, Cinema 4K amazingly raises the bar to 200 Mbps.
here's a sample from someone that's popular in the M43/Blackmagic community...
https://youtu.be/1fzrLChc_48
he used a different handset, but I've tested be Trial version on both my S6e and N5d with no issues, even with the Flat profile (for colour grading).

Haven't tried that one yet. Looks awesome. Thanks for the heads up.
That confirms I need at least 64GB for GN5, too bad.
I have friend living here and I want to buy the dual sim version, just want to ask how much for the Note 5 32GB dual sim. Thank you
Anyone tried rooting the N9208? There's a chinese site that has instructions of rooting it. Are there differences between the OS of TW and PH N9208? I'm afraid that if I followed the chinese instructions, I'd end up with a TW language device.

Hi i just had my note 5 for about a week or so... its the dual version issued by globe philippines... i didnt notice anything wrong with the phone until i tried making calls. 1 out 10 tries pushed through.... so my first thought was to reboot my phone to fix it unfortunately it didnt. Then a text came through feom my friends tling me that they have been trying to call me and all they get is that im out of coverage when I'm just at home. By the way im connected to Lte when this happebed. So I tried to look for another way thought of changing the mobile network to 3g/2g. Calls started pouring in and out. It was fixed. But when I switch it again to LTE same thing happens all over again. Has anyone have the same problem?
Globe LTE doesn't support voice with data unlike with other carriers outside our country with VoLTE
