[Q] 3rd party hd2 battery & android?

Hi, i've read over at the android development thread that some users of 3rd party battery are unable to boot into android from winmo due to certain limitations of the kernel in recognizing the battery (possibly similar to extended hd2 batteries). as i'm looking to get another battery to be a spare to bring on the go, i would like to verify the claim with fellow hd2 users..
my question is this:
To all 3rd party battery users, who have successfully booted into android from their 3rd party battery and brand of the battery (if any)?
hope this will help me and every1 else looking to purchase a 3rd party battery to use as a spare battery since it would suck if it cant be used for android..

I just ordered one from ebay it is a cameron sino, or somthing like that. it is a 2400mAh. I will let you know. I also read somewhere that if you cover up the gold pin that senses tempature then the phone will boot, but since i dont have a extended battery yet i can neither confirm nor deny. Either way i will let you know in a couple of days.

I have two 1200 mah batteries that I swap out with the original batteries. No problems here except I never hit 100% full charge.
see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756513
this kernel has the option to disable tempchecking so any battry can be used, it has a ton of other awesome features too like overclocking
I have 2 3rd party batteries and I've had no issue with booting into or running Android.
Mine both 100% charge.

Same, however they are similar to the original battery.
Mine are Andida batts.
Thanks every1.. will update the 1st post layet to include the stuff u guys mentioned.. about the special kernel which ignores battery temperature, is it for extended batteries or is it for normal sized batteries as well?

Ok I just got my extended battery from ebay, I popped it in and loaded Android. And it worked. It booted into android with no problems. If you want to purchase one like mine I have a previous post and I provided a link. The back cover protrudes a bit but is not in the way at all. I like it. I will buy probably 3 more of this exact one.

Does anyone know if it is possible to power the HD2 from the micro USB supply while I swap batteries. I don't want to have to do a soft reset which loses what you are doing. But I'm worried that without the battery to absorb the power there is a risk of damaging the circuits?
I don't want to just try it because I already blew my main board by powering the USB through a cheep adapter and a Nokia charger that supplied too much power and had I to get it repaired/replaced. I'm hoping someone already knows.

I bought the 2400 mah extended battery for $21.99 and it booted right into android fine but the new back cover didn't fit my phone very well. So I bought HTC's extended battery 2300 mah with back cover and kickstand on back cover it was much more expensive $71.99 with priority shipping from clove UK. I got it put it in and it would not boot into Android. I had to use the special kernel and then voila all is well. Thanks to XDA and the people who put all the hard work into these projects. I love my HD2 with dual boot and extended battery and it even has a freakin kickstand now LOL!
I've owned the eBay 2400 or 2600 extended battery since I got my phone months ago and have had no problems at all with using Android with it. Just yesterday I decided to swap for the stock battery though, mostly because I absolutely love how sleek the HD2 is with the stock battery.

Vibrant Turns on when I try to wall charge it?

Ive had Bionix 1.2.1 Running since it was released, I cant help but notice when I try to power down my phone and charge it from the wall outlet it just boots right back up and proceeds to charge from the home screen. Would this be a result of flashing the rom to anything other then stock?
Are you useing a different battery other that the normal one
No, but I have cleared the battery info once cause it was starting to die quickly.

I have this exact same problem with my Vibrant. Happened less than 24 hours ago. I can't seem to figure it out. Let me know if you find a solution. I'm running Bionix V atm. Thanks.
This is a known bug in CM7, some sort of kernel issue. Wonder if you're running an optimized kernel that introduced the same bug.. Try switching kernels?

Upgrading to a later version should help lol,i didnt have this problem with Bionix V 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 nor with Bionix nex gen. Any earlier vrs i cant remember if that was an issue
I have never had this problem unless I was using a non-Samsung battery.
I have also had Bionix 1.2 on my Vibrant and am currently running 1.31
-EDIT-
Regarding battery life. I bought 2 different aftermarket batteries and 1 extra Samsung battery for my phone. I also starting fully discharging the battery and using a charger to charge them back up before putting them back in the phone
After comparing the life off all of them and taking use into account, I can tell you that keeping your phone on a charger all day will eat away at the life/capacity of the battery.
Deep cycles (full discharge and the full charge when off or on a charger) will help you recover some of the capacity, but the battery will be quick to 'lose' capacity again if you start leaving it on a charger again.
The replacement OEM battery (which has only ever been deep cycled) has far more life than the original battery that my phone came with.
I have a total of 5 batteries for this phone (two OEM, one double capacity and two non-OEM). Instead of worrying about battery life, I just keep an extra battery in my pocket when I go places and put the used batteries on the charger after I get back.
Much less hassle for me
There are some usb cables out there that for some reason turns on the phone when charging. The first time I ever noticed this was when the Fiance got the 1st OTA update. And she said it powered up when plugging it in to charge. I thought that was odd and left it at that for a couple days. Then she told me it didnt power up anymore. A week later she said it powered her phone up again. This time when troubleshooting it, found out it was not the Samsung USB cable that came with the vibrant. It was a USB cable a coworker gave her from her old MetroPCS phone.
To verify, I powered down my phone (running Bionix) and used that generic cable and it powered up my phone.
I have a handful of USB cables that I have tested on and most do not power up my phone and only a couple do that I remember, and those came from other devices like a handheld GPS, our bluetooth charger, etc.

[Q] Charging through microusb

Has anybody noticed that you cannot charge the tablet through the microusb port? I use this tablet at work in my car and I cannot get my existing charger to do anything so i took the tablet inside and plugged it to the computer for conformation and it doesn't charge there either. So I guess I'm gonna have to find a DC charger for this. Anybody know where I can get one cheap?
The Acer doesn't use a proprietary connection to charge so you should be able to find a generic charger that fits with the same barrel connector 12Vdc 1.5A (1500mA) - another plus over the Asus
Check your local Radio Shack store for a universal charger that matches. Heck, Wal-Mart might even have it, Best Buy probably will as well.
This question about charging over the USB comes up a lot - but that'll probably never happen with 10" tablets. The screens are so big, that makes the batteries need a lot more power, and USB just isn't designed to produce the kind of amperage required to charge it.
I just bit the bullet and bought a good inverter.

This is what I have currently. http://goo.gl/WKniM
Black and Decker has a new model now that looks different http://goo.gl/2LV4X but it's worked out very nicely for me. I swear by it. It's saved my phone so many times as well as my previous tablet.
I went by reputation to get it as it shuts off before it causes your vehicle's battery to die (if your battery is weak). Many of the others will drain it until your vehicle can't start.

I wish I had waited two days. I just ordered a new HD 16GB on eBay for $169 + shipping. I think it was from someone in NY that got the earlier deal you posted. But it was not directly from B&N, which I would have preferred.

Also the covers for both models are $25. Not super cheap, but they added a lot of very pretty covers for the HD only a couple of weeks ago!
The ridiculous proprietary 30pin charging cable which is impossible to find anywhere else is also now $15 if people were looking to get another set or can't wait for monoprice to figure this one out
best buy has it for cheap too.

In for 1. I've been eyeing the HD+ after demoing one at Target during the holidays. Price was right, size was right. And a few days ago my Touchpad decided it was done.. great timing.
(add in a $25 B&N gift card I'd been saving and I can now use my existing google apps, $165 w/ tax, quite pleased)
Picked one up yesterday, this is my first tablet, got it for $198 with tax, can not go wrong for this price, fantastic screen, good battery life, not the fastest tablet out there, but for the money and specs it can not be beat. Only issue I have is with the charging cable, not the cable itself but the charging block that plugs into the wall, seems like it is the only one you can use to charge the device, using any other charging block does not work, it also does not charge while pluged into the computers usb port. Otherwise it is a fantastic device, especially now that yu have access to the google play store.

It does charge, it just charges slower. Much slower.
Best Buy sells the 32GB model for $199.99.
The HD+ may have its limitations but a 1080p screen and 32GB memory for $199 is pretty good.
is it worth it to upgrade from a nook color? Ive been looking to upgrade as my nook color is 2 years old...with a bad battery and no warranty it still works....but it just isnt up to scratch anymore.

I just use one of these: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-hig...=1367893383&sr=8-1&keywords=5v+2a+usb+charger
a 5v 2A charger (same as the Nook's wall charger is rated). Works great and charges the HD+ just as fast.
^^
Any idea whether it has 2A rating combined or for each USB port?
HD+ AC adapter is 5.1V/2A. I tried using HD+ cable along with the Nook Color's AC adapter (5V/1.8A) and the combo also works, ie the amber light comes on, and it says charging in the UI. Probably charges a bit slower. A Nook Tablet's AC adapter would probably work as well.
I tried a 5V/1A adapter and no amber charging light.
>Any idea whether it has 2A rating combined or for each USB port?
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, an adapter's amp rating always means the overall rating, not a per-port rating.
Got mine at Target
I just picked up a Nook HD+ 32GB at Target for $199. Then saved an extra 5% with my Target Red Card. Ran over there on my lunch break, so I haven't had time to play with it at all. Can't wait to get home tonight and charge it up! It will definitely be a step up from my Nook Color with CM7.
They offered a 2-year extended warranty plan for $17. I don't normally go for those plans, but this one seemed cheap, and I already saved over $100 on the Nook, so I bought it. Maybe if nothing else, I can get a new battery out of it in a couple of years (the woman at Target specifically mentioned that it covered the battery). Anybody else buy an extended warranty plan on their Nook (or other tech, for that matter)?

Nice, but if I am going to spend $10 on just the AC adapter, I might as well buy the original AC adapter with charging cable from B&N for $15.
just picked one up for my mother, got my wife one for xmas. So happy now it has official playstore support. Now to just put my wifes back to stock software.
I got a BN adaptor/cord for my HD+ from Staples for $8 but that was because they were dumping everything nook and it was the last one.

Several questions about Moto Z Force

I picked up my Moto Z Force at Best Buy on Thursday. I couldn't pass up their deal. Getting this phone for $524 with the JBL SoundBoost speaker is awesome. I compared to regular Z before buying and the Force felt better in my hand (plus it has some great other upgrades). I'm loving the phone. I upgraded from a Droid Turbo and it is a significant jump up.
Several questions:
1. With my Droid Turbo when ever I connected to a Quick Charge 2 device (battery, car charger, and wall usb charger) the phone would indicate with a message that I was turbo charging. With the Moto Z Force I'm not getting a message with my bought Quick Charge 3 battery, car charger, and wall usb charger (Anker and Aukey). With the Force I'm only getting the "TurboPower Connected" message when I use the supplied wall charger. Is there anyway to confirm I'm charging at Quick Charge 3 speeds with my other devices? I'm hoping this can be done via software on phone.
2. It has been a while since I have used a micro sd card in phone. I'm loving I can do this with Moto Z even though getting card out is kind of pain in ass and you need special tool as well. I have the 200gb Sandisk Ultra Micro SD which I picked up a while back on sale for $50. Read speeds on this card are decent but write speeds are pretty slow. I'm noticing that speeds are significantly slower transferring large files to phone (with card in it) with cord vs. pulling card and doing with memory card reader. Is this normal? Is there any way to improve these speeds?
3. I'm looking for a good ultra thin case. I would like to add the least amount bilk and weight possible. I picked up a TPU case on amazon but it a bit bulky. Ideally I would like to get a thin polycarbonate case like Spigen's Thin Fit. Does anyone here know of a case like this for the Z Force?
Thanks!

"Turbo Charging" is proprietary. I have a QC3 chargeer that also does 3 amps. It doesn't say anything, as you mentioned, and both charge at the same rate.
1. I don't think these phones even support QC. The turbo chargers that come with the phones have it built in to work only with these phones, but they do push out decent charge for other phones as well. There was an app that measures how much charge you're getting, but I haven't tested it myself.
2. There is a tool that comes in the box to push out the micro sd slot. I'd say check to see if you formatted the card correctly for fastest transfer speeds. These phones are one of the few that actually support micro sd as true internal storage
Just picked up the Force on Thursday at VZW. Found the Best Buy deal. Called VZW they refused and would not compete.
Taking the other Z back to the store.
In just a day have to say the force is the way. Feels SOLID AND Clean. IMO

Interesting. All this time I thought that every device that had the Snapdragon 820 had QC 3.0. My bad. I have a Quick Charge 3 battery, car charger, and addition wall usb charger and was really hoping to charge at these faster speeds. I will do testing to see how they compare in speed to charger that came with phone. I'm also having problems finding Moto 30-watt Turbopower chargers anywhere on-line.
Memory card is formatted correctly (exFAT). Much slower speeds transferring files to card in phone vs memory card reader on same USB 3.0 jack.
Thanks!
I can tell you that I have both the Z and the Z force and neither will go into "turbo" mode with a QC 3.0 charger. Weird thing is that my Nexus 6p charger will put them both into Turbo mode. Odd.
