Incredible not charging battery properly/fully

Has anyone experienced this issue, seems as tho when I charge my battery to 100% it takes less then 30m before it discharges to 92-92%.
This is happening with the original battery and the Seidio extended battery that I have.
Is there a fix for this, or is this something I should call VZW about. A lot of people at androidforums have been having the same issue.

Yeah, I've read this, is everyone having this issue, or just certain phones? The battery "trick" does not work for me.

i think everyone has the problem. the "trick" didnt work for me either or my friend, unless we're doing it wrong. i think its a software issue personally, and hopefully an update will fix it.

Your battery stats are miscalculated. You need a calibration procedure. Replacing the phone might fix the problem, but if your battery charging habits don't change it'll happen again, unless HTC feels like changing their battery calibration algorithm, and there's no need to wait for that. Any laptap manufacturer will have a good how-to on li-ion battery calibration.

theres no way all the phones are bad, alot of people have this issue that have this phone. i dont think its bad hardware, chances are if i get a new battery its going to do the same thing. im gonna order an extended battery anyways soon so we will see.

I am having the same issue with an extended battery. It's the way the phone is charging the battery. Is everyone just accepting this as is or is not everyone having the same issue. I want to know if I should replace the phone or not...

I completely discharged my battery last night, turned it off, and fully charged it while it was off. Now the first 10% seems a lot more resilient then before. I just hope I don't have to do this every night. I don't have a land line and it sucks having to turn it off just to charge it.

good to see this post, i to have a htc touch hd, and have problems with batteries, ive bought 2 new batteries from ebay.
and seem to get vary results, its as if mobile is showing 100% but the battery is only 40% charged.
charged one last night finished at 12pm and battery was saying it was flat at 7am !
the orginal htc does seem to last longer, but obvisily there is a issue with the phone itself, if it needs reset or something?

Replacing the phone is not necessary. It's actually the OS that cuts the charge short of full. The OS "thinks" the battery is full,thus stopping the charge. Completely drain the battery, then plug it in,leaving the phone on. Let it fully charge while it's on - when the LED indicator is green,and the battery is "full" - while still plugged in, power phone off,and you'll notice the indicator will turn red again,charging the phone for about another half hour or so. That will give you a true full charge.

Days later...and running Froyo, and still battery problems
I'm running Froyo now...battery light green and indicating 100%...and I power off the phone... It has been charging 25 minutes now and still charging. Didn't they(?) say that this had been fixed in the latest ROMs. I'm running Sky Raider's 2.01. Is it just me?
Do I need to erase my battery stats from within ClockworkMod Recovery? I haven't done this because it warns that this cannot be undone. That sounded too scary for me to try.

Yes, clear battery stats. Ive had battery issues like this with any leaked froyo rom, including the one i developed.

its a problem with the chargers. youll see if you charge with an external battery charger or a vzw car charger, the phone will charge fine. htc screwed something up with the "trickle" function in the incredible stock chargers. as soon as the LED turns green, the charger shuts off and almost siphons charge from the battery in order to prevent overcharging, which drains the battery to about 95%, but the battery will still show its at 100. ive done the battery stats clear several times and this problem persists even if i leave the phone on the charger for more than a minute after LED turns green, even when phone is turned off. at times the charger doesnt even charge the phone all the way, which is why you can charge completely, unplug, plug it back in and light is red again and takes a few more minutes to charge. both are caused by an "overcharge protection" feature built in to just about every charger these days, but gone horribly wrong in these chargers.

I can tell you it doesn't have anything to do with the chargers. I have this problem while the phone is turned on whether I plug it into my Computer, original charger, off brand car charger, usb car charger, usb cable from the lg ally, or the OEM lg ally charger. it has everything to do with HTCs software on the phone. it is using two different ways to charge the battery, one while the phone is on and in use (that uses HTCs software/algorithm), and one while the phone is turned off(uses the batteries overcharge protection circuit).

I have tried everything, I tried resetting / removing the battery stats etc. Nothing works...Its useless ppl...have to wait for a fix from HTC. Which bring my question, does anyone know when or if this is planned to be fixed?

Battery failure during 1st extended usb trickle charge

Well, I don't think I had seen any yet but I might be the first device/battery failure as a result of using one of the new superior charging kernels.
I have been using the Netarchy 4.2.2 beta kernal (aggressive with havs) I believe and everything has been fine for the past week or so.
This afternoon I plugged my phone into USB and laid down for a nap. I woke up not long ago and my phone is completely dead now. It will not power on or indicate that it is plugged in or anything. I don't have another battery to test, but could it just be a battery failure? Or is it possible the whole device is hosed?

Anything is possible. Chances are that it was not the kernel though. Try a different charger and maybe a different battery. If all else fails take it in for repair.

How full was your battery before you plugged it in? You could try pulling the battery and waiting an hour or so before putting it back in and powering on.

I was down to about 30% when I plugged it in so it was getting a full charge. I remember getting a phone call during my nap that I ignored. When I finally got up the device was completely dark. I've got it unplugged and the battery out for now. Hopefully it will power back up in an hour or so....
If not I will have to try a buddy's battery in here tomorrow to see if that does anything. If not I'm simply out the device, there is no "taking it in for repair for me" unfortunately.

I hope it powers back up for you. If not, it would be good to try your friends battery so you could start trouble shooting.

Try a different cable. A little while back I thought my phone borked on me as it would not charge even though the charge light was on. When my wife's did the same thing I got suspicous and tried a different cable. Like magic, the problem went away.

I don't think the phone is hosed, might be just the battery, I had that exact situation happen to me back in december, when plugged in theres not even a light. I tried drastic measures to get it working even heating the battery to 120f for 5 min then letting it cool for 10 over and over, it finally worked when I got to a sprint store and they plugged it in to one of their wall chargers, I was shocked after hours of doing things with no results. to this day im still using the same battery and it has the same life as when new

Original red oem battery. I've tried my usb cable and my 2 wall chargers so far. Still no lights.
I did see the screen blip on for a fraction of a second a moment ago while pressing at the the power button, so that gives me glimmer of hope. About to see what happens with a car charger on the way over to my friend's to try another battery.

The fact that you where using the SBC can mean absolutely nothing. I have a friend with an Evo as well, I flashed every experimental kernel and Rom I can find and have had no real issue, hardware wise. Him, on the other had, had only updated via the Sprint OTA, never flashed any custom roms or kernels, never even Rooted.
one night while texting a reply to me, his phone flat out died. it was plugged in and everything, just went black and charge light went out. I put my battery in his phone the next day, swapped SD cards, etc,etc. nothing brought it back to life, it was gone.
Sprint actually replaced it for him, just tell them that you where simply charging it and it wouldn't turn on the next day. they won't be able to get it to boot up because it's dead.. no idea why his did it, I kindof feel that is what happened with yours. I don't think the kernel had anything to do with it.

Well it's been confirmed to be the battery by trying another one.
Today is the first time I've ever let the phone do an extended charge over USB using one of these sbc kernels and the battery just happens to take a **** during the process? That's one killer coincidence...

try the battery again tomorrow out after sitting for a bit, it will charge and work again

This happened to me when I was using a Zendroid kernel a couple weeks ago. You should be able to just plug your phone back in and charge it again. The orange light may blink at first or not turn on for a couple minutes, but it should charge.
I'm honestly not entirely sure, though. I put my dead battery in my sister's Evo, and the light thing is what happened to me. I let it charge in my sister's phone, and it turned out fine. Worked in the morning. Hopefully, you can do it in your own phone if you don't have another way to charge it.

4.2.2 should not have SBC.

It would not be surprising to hear that a stock battery just quits working. Sprint replaces these for peeps all the time. Li-Poly batteries are cheap to produce and like anything else, there are always bad ones in the bunch.
Seriously doubt it was caused by whatever is loaded on the phone otherwise there would be more coming up with same issue. Unless there is something with the beta and USB charging method. Still doesn't sound very likely.

That is a killer coincidence...but I do believe it is just a coincidence. I am at CES right now (well prep meetings and such) and the only way I charge when I travel is through USB. I have been using the 4.3 with SBC straight off of Net's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763) and have had no issues. Good to see you have your phone back, but I am willing to bet it was a faulty battery, not the kernal.
Hope it doesn't turn you away from the SBC kernals, it is so much nicer to see it stay between 100% and 90% for hours on end instead of 10 minutes like before.

It's the kernel from my experience mostly tied to sbc kernels. My phone did the exact thing. I mean exact. Pulled battery, used different cables etc. One thing I did not use was the OEM HTC charger. I have PCs around me all the time or the car charger. My phone died in my room where I have other wall mounted usb chargers. Didn't think anything of it. A few hours later phone died. It was 54% or so when I plugged it in. I came back to a dead phone. Nothing i tried initially worked. Sprint tech support same thing. I knew they couldn't resolve it. I have spare batteries but this OEM battery was too new. I wanted to know the problem so as to not repeat it. Sprint offered to replace my phone but I said let me get back on that. Since I knew the kernels were playing with voltage and that over or under voltage can mess with the phone. I plugged the OEM HTC wall adapter in and sure enough I had a orange blinking light. I waited for a few mins. Booted into recovery and installed a nandroid backup with sense. It booted great and guess what my battery percentage was? 55%. The battery did not die but the system shut down and it wanted the exact voltage from the HTC charger to kick start it. Since then for me personally I have stayed away from sbc kernels. It might work for some but not for me.

Um, SBC and undervolting/HAVS aren't the same thing.
SBC is a new, experimental charging method that "just" came out.

[Q] Nexus 7 does not charge while on.

My Nexus 7 is no longer charging while turned on. If I power it off it'll charge with the battery symbol. I can't even get my PC to recognize it while plugged in to USB. I'm using the stock charger and cable. Any thoughts?
I'm currently running Paranoid Android 2.54, however when this started I was on 2.50. I thought flashing a newer version might help.

Running stock ROM and it updated yesterday to version JOP40C now it's only charging when turned off.

+1, same here, but now it won't charge as the battery got completly drained.

Still does not charge. This is a launch N7, curious if Google will replace it.

I just received a replacement seven this week for the same issue, mine stopped charging. I called google play customer service, and they didn't give me a hastle at all.

Were you rooted/running a custom ROM? I am, and with my N7 not getting recognized I feel like flashing back to stock might be problematic.

yea, rooted, custom ROM and kernel. doesn't matter though, it just started one day randomly. I finally did get it to charge BTW, by giving it a few firm smacks on the back. they didn't even ask if it was with root or if it was a custom ROM. if its hardware related, it won't make a difference. i sent it back with twrp recovery, rasbean jelly rom, and trinity kernel. i did wipe the data and the storage before i sent it in.

Yeah my Nexus' charging is messed up since 4.2. Battery seems to run down extremely quickly (around 30% in two hours with Spotify on and general browsing.) Plugging it into the wall with the official charger sometimes charges it EXTREMELY slowly, and sometimes just says its charges and still the battery is running down.
It happened to charge last night, and over the course of around 10 hours, I think I had 60% battery. Trying to charge now, and nothing, just losing battery. No idea what the issue could be. Tablet completely stock.

+1 on this issue. N7 isn't charging when turned on, no charging issues if turned off. It isn't recognized when connected to a PC. Whenever I try switching users, the darn thing restarts itself. It does the same thing when I try USB debugging. I am running 4.2.1.
Please help!

Investigated problem
After upgrading to 4.2.1 my N7 charged very slowly. Finally today I decided to investigate it, albeit inaccurately.
Plugging a 2A charger into my 120V power monitor, I noticed the following:
When the N7 was on, the power draw continually alternated between 0 watts and 2 watts.
When the N7 had been shut down from the bootloader (not from the OS) and the cable plugged in/out, the power draw was a constant 2 watts.
The max charging rate of the N7 is around 10 watts.
So it looks like the N7 is will charge either very slowly, or kind of slowly. What I find strange is that this issue only occurs on some devices. Perhaps later devices use a different charging controller?
Either way, would really like a fix for this.

From the way you described your test setup, you seem to be measuring the power consumed by the charger itself on a 120 VAC source. The wattage there should be low, albeit still higher than what you're seeing. Along that line, if you ever see it go up anywhere near 10 watts, then something has gone horribly wrong.
Also, the slow charging seems to be peculiar to 4.2 and above, indicating that it is not actually a hardware issue.

Been having the same problem for a few days now, I was on stock 4.2 and updated today to a custom ROM based off of 4.2.1 and there is still no difference. Anyone found a solution yet?? Its quite concerning especially since I got mine from GameStop in the US then moved to the UK shortly after!

I figured it was caused by letting the battery drain completely so I opened it up pulled the battery plug out, plugged it back in and charged it till it was full and it continued to work. haven't let it die since.

Same problem here, stock Nexus 7 running 4.2.1, roughly 2 months old.
It charges when the device is turned off, but will not charge when powered on -- started happening about 2 weeks ago (charged fine previously). This is using the stock brick and cable that came with the tablet.
I have to imagine that this is a software issue and that the next one will have a similar problem -- has anyone else swapped one out and had the problem disappear with the new one?

[Q] issues with kit kat

Hey guys...I have updates to kit kat 3 times since it has came out...I have issues right now with my phone that I am not sure if it is due to kitkat or what..
I have HORRIBLE battery life now...Literally lasting like half a day. On MJE it was not like this. Also, for some reason, it is taking FOREVER to charge, and it will not charge if hooked up to a PC very much at all...used to it would charge the phone, now it just keeps it at the same percentage, or drains it further.
I have tried eclipse rom and baja rom and they seem to both have the issue.

Maybe your battery is toasted. Left your phone in a hot car lately? Baking lithium batteries tends to make them slow to charge and fast to die. You could get another battery and try it (don't get a no name aftermarket one unless it's like a Zero Lemon or something respectable).
If it's not the battery then your charging circuit could be going bad. Worse case scenario you get a warranty replacement and have an extra battery.
Another thing to consider is that a laptop or computer will typically only charge the phone at 400-600mA. That will take 6-8 hours to complete. If you recently switched computers it could be outputting less power. Find a wall charger rated at 2000mA and try that. Charge should be complete from 0% to 100% in 2-3 hours max. If it takes much longer than that, you have a dying battery or bad charging circuit.

I actually bought a new battery the other day as I was clueless as to what was causing this issue. It is doing the same thing, which tells me it is either something to do with my phone or the ROM's themselves. I seriously cannot get a day out of my phone with normal use...Used to I would have around 40% left and I was using my phone a heck of a lot more than what I am using it now. My phone will sit plugged into my PC or plugged into the wall at work all day...When I get off at 5...By the time I go to bed at 12-1am I am getting alerts about battery.
It charges up to 100 percent though...This I don't get...I have only tried 2 roms on the NC2 and I have tried this a while back when it first came out with a rom but dont remember which one it was...The phone will randomly start chugging super slow and I will have to reboot it in order to get it do do anything...It will get to the point it takes 10+ seconds to load the power menu when I hold the power button. This has ONLY been an issue with NC2. I have ODIN'd back and upgraded all the way through and still had the same issues multiple times.
I don't understand why this did not do this on MJE but does on NC2. I was running Baja prior to NC2 on MJE without any issues. I am pretty tech savy, I am a network administrator...I have had many Verizon phones, and flashed/rooted several. I am not an expert, but I am fairly confident I am doing everything right...I don't know what I would be missing.
I could do a warranty claim through Verizon...Problem is, they give you remanufactured phones...I want to be dang sure it is an issue with my phone, as this one I got new from Verizon, and not the NC2 build iteself. Would it still be the charging circuit if it charges to 100% still? I have a wireless charger that I use when I am at home, and I just got it not long ago...does that bypass the charging circuit, or does it still use it? This was after I was having issues.

One Plus 2 battery drain

Hello,
I am using One Plus 2 for a few years already. Lately I started suffering because of battery drain and long time charging. Problem is quite serious because while charging and using phone battery % is getting down. It takes whole night to charge it to 100% and in the midday I have 20% left.
I tried to use different chargers and cables. Didn't help.
Today I changed battery to new one. Didn't help.
Wiped out unofficial rom, installed official stock one. No addtional apps installed. Didn't help.
I am charging it with charge monitor app and while on AC charging I get very unstable charging graph. I need to turn off screen and leave phone untouched to charge it.

Where else to look for a reason?

Usually LTE connection drain the battery. Try disable it and try for few hours.

I tried to charge it with airplane mode. Didn't help neither.

Did you resolve your issue? I have same situation but I think that happened after when I do update Oxygen, now charger my battery is really slow and drain battery really quick. I can just leave, not touched my OP2 for all day and the battery after 8hrs got 30%. I buy original battery and still nothing change for better.

Have you tried to change the charging cable. I had the same issue and changed the charging cable. It worked for me.

Another problem is with a cable because original cables for OP2 can't buy anywhere right now, the company OnePlus has stopped production this cable for this device so I buy original cable Dash Charger from site oneplus.net

Three possibilities (at least):
* The charger is not working
* The cable is not working
* The battery is failing
Solutions for the first two are more obvious than the last one. Pick up a new or working used charger/cable. But the battery is a little dicier. And frankly, it is also more likely the cause for this than a bad cable or charger (esp. charger). But re the battery... No direct sales from Oneplus are available except via an official Oneplus repair job, which requires you sending your phone to them and them replacing the battery. Obnoxious, eh?!
The unofficial route? This is frowned on by many here, but not me. Buy a cheap ebay battery for the oneplus 2. Look for one that at least promises the battery's power matches the phone's specs. I bought one for $12 from an American seller (because I wanted a bit more accountability if it didn't work). They do work. They also take a while to start reporting their voltages and charges correctly, and must be charged / discharged completely a few times before things start getting accurate.
That's no official answer... just one guy's experience. Hope it helps.
