why must the screen light up when you plug the phone in.. - Galaxy S II General

when you plug the phone in, the screen lights up..why? its so often you'd just plug in the phone and drop it on your bed, or charge it while driving trying to get back some % cause we all know it dies too fast anyway.. you need to press the lock button to get the screen off, otherwise itll just stay lit forever.. totally defeating the outpost purpose of charging it in the first place.. and if you go over a bump and the charger breaks connection and reconnects, it will light up and at the end of your drive it won't be anymore charged than when you started the drive.. I, can't believe nobody is tackling this issue, but yet we have a fix for the phone vibrating when its done charging..

No one is tackling it because maybe your the only one with the issue? Easy to blame other people for not fixing problems isnt it?
Like the post above me. When I plug it in, screen dims then goes off.

really? how long is, your screen set to dim for? "dim after ... " setting, on both firmwares I tried I get this issue

30 seconds.

I remember this was happening to me when I first got the phone a month ago. Seems to be working fine now though...
Since then I've upgraded to KE2 and then KE7, so perhaps that fixed it. I used to use a longer screen timeout though so maybe I just never gave it enough time to shut off.

im on KE2 and the screens turns off when charging after exactly 1 min, as i set it to

I think the question/wish of the OP is that the phone shouldn't come on when plugged in, if it's on standby, which is annoying nonetheless.

Atrix Overheated

Yeah , so i put an alarm for 4 in the morning and i completely did not hear the noise. So the phone was going off for 2 and a half hours. The screen was on the whole time and it was on the charger. I go to turn off the alarm and the phone screen was sooooo hot. So i took out the battery and let it chill. Put it back in and now when i turn it on it says thats stuff about the sd card and blah blah and then it shuts off. I have a warranty and i think this will cover it.

Now be honest, the alarm wasn't the issue. We know you were watching porn for hours this morning. :-D
Seriously though, definately warranty that sucker.
I also have the same problem this very morning for the first time
the battery went up to about 70 degree celcius

My phone has gotten a lot hotter since the last update.

The iphone shuts off and gives you a warning when overheated so it doesnt damage the phone. Android OS doesnt have this precaution?
Yea i left my old iPhone under a lamp once and when i came back it was hotter than a frying pan and had a yellow caution sign on it xD. It still worked though

I noticed that too. Perhaps it's because the radio is using more power?
I also met this problem today, everything goes weird since I update my Atrix4G several days ago...
Is this related with system update?
I had a heat issue some time ago before the 1.83 update. I believe mine was related to some of the apps I had loaded periodically turned things on and off like the GPS and WiFi. Since flashing back and updating to .83 then rooting I haven't had that problem.

Screen flickering problem

Temp fix on post 7
Hey, I've owned my phone for
about 6 months. It has been fine till about a week ago when I flashed a miui rom (Mintberry). At first, it was just occasional flickering, everyday or two for a few seconds, but now it's turned into a fair bit more.
If I don't use my phone heavily for about 3 hours, and go back to the phone, the screen has turned completely grey. When this happens, no matter what state my phone is in the screen flickers. It generally begins flickering very fast then after 5 seconds the screen is completely grey (even once rebooted).
I have dropped my phone a few times like everyone does, nothing severe or even close though. I didn't drop it then have it instantly happen.
I have since tried a few things...
Changed pixel density in rom toolbox (works once rebooted, but only till I stop using)
Changed from miui to ICS (no difference, but took an hour for it to start)
Am I looking at buying a new screen?
Edit: tried another battery, no success (didn't expect much)

I had similar issue with my phone. I do not think it has anything to do with software.. but yours is far worse thn mine.. I only had minor flickering which could only be seen sometimes and you really need to notice it with black or white background.. I tired diffrent roms it was on all of them.. I switched back to original rom.. and then got my screen replaced underwarranty... working fine since then..
OK thanks, ill give them a call today.

Had mine flickering in the same fashion. Out of warranty. Took it to a repair place and apparently it was just the screen connection was loose - thats what they told me anyway - $80 later everything worked again - probably ripped me off but im not a hardware tech so didnt want to screw with it myself
I'll have a look at a disassemble guide today, see if I can fix the cable. Thanks man, generally screen flickering is from a loose cable.

Well today I found a fix...
I accidently left my phone in the car when it was pretty hot. Seemed fine when i used it for a few minutes so i assumed it was water damage and decided to take the battery out and leave it for a while.
Came back to the phone after i had done the shopping to see if it was still working. Nope... It was noticably colder though as the car was now in the shade.
I ended up getting a heat bag and wrapping it around the phone. The screen almost immediately started working and the screen was perfect.

N7 Only displaying battery icon

Hey guys,
Recently got my Nexus 7. I tried turning it on when it came out of the box but it didn't.
So I though I'd charge it for a while. When I plug it in a battery icon pops up for about ten seconds and then the screen goes black again.
I can't turn it on at all. Tried holding the power button for a long time but that didn't work either.
I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out rather quickly because I'm on holiday in the US so I've got limited time left to swap it, if nothing else helps.

When I took it out of the box the battery was about half full (according to the charging animation). Now it appears to be full. Left it charging for about 2 hours.
Thanks for the quick reply by the way.
try holding the power button down and the volume down button. see if itll boot into the bootloader. if it does, select start in the bootloader then press the power button to select. maybe itll boot that way.

Not working either. The only thing I've managed to see on my display is the charging animation so far.
Feels like such a disappointment.
have you tried holding down the power button longer than you would expect to hold it down? like 1-2 minutes.

Just held it for 3 straight minutes. Nothing. At one point I thought I saw something on the screen but it was a reflection. Haha.

I had a similar issue after a couple months of use with mine. The screen just turned black while I was playing a game and it wouldn't respond to anything. At first I thought it had shorted out or something, and I was considering returning it, but after about an hour of leaving it alone on the charger, it started working again like magic. My friend had the same exact issue. Idk maybe this helps....

Or do you think I should return it anyways as there might be more to it?

you should probably exchange is well you still have a chance. better to be safe than sorry.
If you're feeling froggy, you could check to see if the battery is plugged in. Asus seems to have a QC problem when it comes to connecting the N7 battery.

I swapped it, have got a perfectly working little nexus 7 now!
Thanks for all your help.

Did I kill my screen?

So I accidentally depleted my phones battery low enough that when I plugged my phone in to charge it, it was blinking red. But it charged and is back working again, so its all good. But now when I turned my phone on, there's a Google watermark Almost on my screen. I've taken screen shots and looked at them on my computer and it didn't have it, so it much be the screen? Its in the same spot and size as the Google logo when you start up. I only let it charge for about an hour, and the first time I turned it on, it was on its charger and I didn't get the boot animation, the screen was off, I could tell because it was really black, if I display a black screen on my phone while its on, I can still tell its on because of the backlight. Did I break it... ?

It's definitely burned into the LCD, was the phone heated up when it happened? were you using intensive tasks? though, Either way it wouldn't matter. The only thing you could do about it currently is to take it back to LG for them to replace your screen.
What charger you used ? Stock ?
I'd give it about a week to return to normal.
The phone was warm, but not hot. I used stock charger and stock cable. Its actually gone already. I can't notice it at least.

Looks like a screen burn in.. You probably have really high brightness? Or your device was taking long during the boot up at the Google icon stage?

[Q] green light while charging

hello all
my n4 got wet two days ago. since friday i didn't manage to power it on.
today, after i opened it and put it in a bowl of dry rice (heard it can absorb the fluids) i connected it to the charger and after i pressed the power button for few seconds it the green led light popped, but turned off after few seconds. when i press it for few sec and it turns on and afrterwards turns off.
now it's connected and i managed to keep the green light on for the last 0.5 hour. do i still have a chance to save it and what should i do, or it lost?
i'll mention i don't have an app about the lights and didn't root my phone. i also looked it up in the forum and didn't find a similar problem.
thank you very much for the effort.
You should of placed it in rice has soon has possible.
The green LED means fully charged.
When you mean by turns on do you mean it shows the Google splash screen and if so then when does it come off?

If I were you I would try rooting the phone and installing Slimbean or another rom that lets you disable the LED light. That could shut it off for good hopefully unless the LED lost all connection to the motherboard and it's only getting power now.
