Atrix Overheated - Atrix 4G General

Yeah , so i put an alarm for 4 in the morning and i completely did not hear the noise. So the phone was going off for 2 and a half hours. The screen was on the whole time and it was on the charger. I go to turn off the alarm and the phone screen was sooooo hot. So i took out the battery and let it chill. Put it back in and now when i turn it on it says thats stuff about the sd card and blah blah and then it shuts off. I have a warranty and i think this will cover it.

See I knew I wasn't the only person watching porn on the phone!

My phone has gotten a lot hotter since the last update.

The iphone shuts off and gives you a warning when overheated so it doesnt damage the phone. Android OS doesnt have this precaution?

Yea i left my old iPhone under a lamp once and when i came back it was hotter than a frying pan and had a yellow caution sign on it xD. It still worked though

I noticed that too. Perhaps it's because the radio is using more power?

I also met this problem today, everything goes weird since I update my Atrix4G several days ago...
Is this related with system update?

I had a heat issue some time ago before the 1.83 update. I believe mine was related to some of the apps I had loaded periodically turned things on and off like the GPS and WiFi. Since flashing back and updating to .83 then rooting I haven't had that problem.

How long to leave in rice ?

I was in the shower texting, and my phone just froze and started vibrating, but I was still able to turn it off through the power button, then I just finished showering. and tried to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on. So then I put it in the charger and stuff to try. So it still doesn't work. So I tried powering it up like 5 times. So is it possible I short circuited it ? And how long should I leave it in raw rice ?
In the shower texting. I think you may have a bigger problem than just a fried phone.
As for the phone.... you can try rice, but since you kept messing with it instead of putting it directly into the rice its probably fried. Anyway, about 5-7 days. Without taking it out to mess with it.

The water indicators are completely white though.. Any chances?

Did you atleast have it in a plastic bag or something? If not why would you text in the shower? But basically yea 5-7 days. I accidentally went swimming with my MT3G and left it for about 2-3 days and it came back on but the digitizer was dead.

Texting in the shower? Really... facepalm
So yeah, dont do that again.. and if you do, then like the above poster said... anytime your phone gets wet and shuts off DO NOT attempt to power it back on... that's where everything gets fried

I certainly hope you are not serious...
IDK why, but my phone now works, just one day in rice LOL

Let's see...you took your phone in the shower...then you failed to heed any advice about the length of time to keep your phone in rice.
And then you got lucky.
Your phone WILL be screwed one day soon. Guaranteed!

4g radio/went swimming with phone question

ok so i took a dip with my phone the other day and after i dried it out for a couple days... it worked fine. i was reallly surprised. but now im noticing that my 4g radio isnt working. it wont turn on at all its acting like its not even there i just get the "on..." for ten or so seconds then it turns itself back off. could just my 4g radio be fried? anybody else have this experience?

Wow, you are the second person to say this. Someone who was on the Urban Fury thread a while back said he dropped his phone in tomato soup and it still worked after he dried it out. And to think I was worried about having Best Buy put on an InvisiShield or whatever its called when they wet it at first.

lolz good story. yeah im really impressed with the build quality of this phone despite all of the software problems samsung continues to deliver top notch hardware. i mean seriously i was in the pool for like 5 minutes when i realized i had it in my pocket. i fully recommend this phone to any clumsy person. im really hoping this is something else i started having battery problems after i dropped it so i flashed to the supernova rom (which is excellent btw) and i "think" thats when my 4g probs started. i wish i had tested EVERYTHING as soon as i got it working again because im really not sure if it ever worked after i swam with it. im flashing syndicate now so we'll see if i can get it working.
yea, i have a hard time noticing the half inch thick, brick in my pocket too. did you just jump in with jeans on? where are the pockets when you skinny dip?

I have dropped a previous Samsung phone in the toilet (after flushing) and it work fine after drying out. One trick is to put it in a sealed jar of rice to have it absorb any moisture inside.

I think your 4g radio is definitely fried. The problem you're describing with it is exactly what happened to me. I would definitely take it into the sprint store and see if they can replace it. They replaced mine right away and free of charge.

My Vibrant is waterproof!

So I took my ambian like I always do and decided I was going to take a bath cause of a lower back ache. I was surfing the web and I guess the ambian kicked in and knocked my ass out! Well got out of the tub cause the water was getting cold, got out and turned on the light. I was looking all over the place for my phone and panicked when I saw it under water in the TUB!!! I picked it up and it came on, shook it off and have had zero problems out of it, charge port was open and I have no idea how it still works, it was under water for a lonnnnnnng time!
hmmmmm tell us how well it works tommorrow
Been three days now so Im calling it good!
i find this very hard to believe haha miracles do happen sir
can you try it again?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Lol! My wife takes 20-40 mg of Ambien every night (as prescribed), in addition to other stuff for insomnia (and even all THAT doesn't always knock her out) so I know what you mean with that.
Waterproof, though, is lucky. Be very happy you lucked out.
You should have probably immediately taken the battery out and rinsed it with distilled water.
It will probably start corroding inside soon and die on you.
Also when you take Ambien you should be ALREADY in bed, not walking around or taking baths.
Interesting story though.
I have seen it before. It will corrode over time. Then it will drain battery really fast. But everything will work.
I have been worried about corrosion too but i did pull the battery out and clean everything really well. The thing that turn pink when wet is still white so somehow the water didn't get in there. Not going to try it again.

Battery life

So i had this issue about a month ago. My phone got submerged in water. I shut it off, took batttery out, blow dried it, and let it sit over night. Next day fired right up with no issues. About 2 weeks later, battery life goes in the toilet. Goes dead in 4 hours with no use. So i bought a new battery thinking that would fix it, but no, it did not. I can understand the phone having issues after getting totally soaked while turned on, but in the past, display used most of the battery, now im getting android os as the culprit. Its strange, what would change from display to android os just by getting wet?. Ive tried multiple roms, its always the same. Any suggestions? Fyi, it dropped in the toilet, nothing worse than seeing your phone screen on while shining up thru the water!

...but sorry I can't be of any assistance in this matter. I would probably just try and start from scratch by flashing a stock 2.2 RUU and then rerooting and installing a custom ROM.

Is everything working such as the sensors, compas, wifi, bluetooth, gps? If one of their chips got fried the os may be constantly trying to load or access something that is not working, therfore killing the battery. FYI the perfered method for drying a soaked phone is to put it in a bag of rice for a couple days. Blow drying just pushes the watter in deeper, and if you do it to much the heat can mess up the circuit board.
Everything works just fine. Im stumped.

are you sure all the water is gone? also the minerals in water will stick around long after the water is gone i bet there is something in there that is shorting it out but on a small scale.
i would suggest to take the phone apart and make sure you dont see any white or milky deposits on the MB or any where else. if you see some you can use 91% or higher isopropyl, (rubbing alcohol) i would use 98% but its harder to get, you can find it at a medical supply store though. Clean up the board and let it air dry before putting it all back together.
taking the phone apart is fairly simple you just need to be patient. i used this video when i needed to swap screens.

[Q] Swollen battery

So, has anyone else had any problems with the battery swelling on the N4? I first noticed that parts of the screen was having what appeared to be a massive light bleed, then after a few hours the back came off. I was not charging the phone so I have a hard time believing there is something wrong with my charger. I have attached a picture showing what it looks like now..
Never seen that before I'd get the phone replaced.

I had the phone in my pocket and only used it for Spotify when I was outside walking. I never checked the temperature when I saw the phone like that for the first time, so actually I don´t know how hot it got. I haven´t found a way to see the max temperature but if someone give me the instructions I gladly will.
I would suggest turning it off immediately and RMA'ing. That is dangerous. I'm really surprised at how bad that has swollen without exploding
