Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon Game Pack
Top Game Publishers Choose Snapdragon Mobile Processors to Deliver an Industry Leading Mobile Gaming Experience
It looks like Nvidia will have some renewed competition in not just Android GPUs, but also in terms of mobile gaming as whole, if today’s announcement by Qualcomm is anything to go by.
The company has just announced its Snapdragon Games Pack initiative - high-end Android titles from leading mobile publishers that will be optimised to run on the new generation of Snapdragon processors and Adreno GPUs.
Among the names and titles included in the initiative is Gameloft (Modern Combat 2), Guild Software (the formerly Tegra-only Vendetta Online), Namco Bandai (Pool Pro Online 3), and Com2us (Home Run Battle 3D).
So far the Qualcomm website lists 73 titles that will be optimised for the new chipset, but the company will no doubt look be looking to persuade more Android developers and publishers to utilise its Adreno tools in the future.

Please tell me this is planned to work on the Xperia Play?
Short answer. No.
Long answer. It will be used for new qualcomm phones. Most likely the dual/quad core kind.
Xperia Play isn't running on next-gen hardware that this stuff is targeted for.

after reading the processor specs on the mytouch HD (dual core 1ghz) im thinking the g2's processor is already long in the tooth and it hasnt even been released yet!
What do you guys think?
Also, wtf does the g2 look like in the back, I have yet to see any pics of its rear. whats so secret about it, I hope theyre hiding something big.
I really wanted to early adopt the g2 on day 1, but after hearing about the processor the mytouch HD will be packing, I may just wait. For a while..... I want something thatll keep me happy for a year that packs a qwerty
Check engadget for the pics of the back. I cant post the links because im new And im not sure how current/accurate that leak is. All of Qualcomm dual core processors were delayed. Wont see them in phones until next yr. Supposedly the MTHD is to be released in Nov. Something isnt right. We will soon find out

i looked there and at gizmodo and cant find any rear pics.
your right something isnt right at all, in a few months the hd3 will be released with a dual core as well. im starting to think that the mytouch hd and hd3 are packing dual core tegra 2 processors. to my knowledge, those processors have been ready to be dropped into devices for a while now. The dual core arms and quallcomms arnt ready if i recall.
Go to engadget. Click on the latest article about the G2. Click the G2 tag and click the article that says "T-Mobile G2 again, this time with less Mr. Blurrycam." I need to rank up so i can post links lol
i sifted through the internets and found out that the mytouch hd is indeed running on the tegra2 processor. the processor is a soc with 2 A9 cores; each at 1ghz.
in regards to the hd3, im reading that its a dual core 1.5ghz, and that its a single core 1.5ghz.... still alot of speculation. regardless.... its gonna be an interesting 4th quarter.
if the mytouch hd wasnt so ugly id look past the fact that it was missing a keyboard.

wait, where did you see this?
The MyTouch HD is made by HTC which mostly use Qualcomm chipsets. That article is very fishy. That whole dual processor thing is missleading, it could mean anything. In fact the G2 is a "dual processer" phone. The G2 has a cpu and gpu. I say just wait and see, this just don't seem right.
P.S. I have not read anywhere that has stated it is a tegra 2 chipset, pls provide link!

Yea read that too, that just that authors opinion, there is no evidence to back up his statements. If I had to guess the Mytouch HD will use a 1 ghz version of the G2 chipset since its technically a "dual processor" chipset too.
I'm skeptical of this. 1st of all, the mytouch was never a high-end brand. so it seems strange to me that they would all of the sudden use that brand as one of the first ever dual-core phones. 2nd of all, I don't see HTC moving away from qualcomm just yet, but I could be wrong. and lastly, there's something weird about that leaked TMO promo. the writing seems very amateurish to me. but thats all speculation on my part.
Keyword "dual processor" not dual "core" processor. There's a difference. Dual processor is what the G2 and Galaxy S feature; a separate unit for the CPU and GPU. Qualcomm does not make 1Ghz dual core chips.
Also, think about this. Why would T Mobile put a state of the art dual core processor in their teenage MyTouch line, but not in their business power house G2 with "The Google Experience"?
People are threatening to not purchase the G2, or ultimately leave T Mobile for their reluctancy to release a powerful business phone.

dual-cores aren't coming this year unfortunately..and I'm pretty sure that when they land, it'll be for phones without QWERTY. I think manufacturers milk the market with touch-only phones with latest tech, before releasing the more 'professional' QWERTY equipped phones. Just look at the time it took for HTC to release another QWERTY android.
So in my books, it's either G-2 or Milestone 2 at this point in time....of course, we'll have to wait for HTC's announcement on the 15th Sept. and hope that they shed some more information!

I love my quadcore core CPU the attached image is what I get when I clicked the OPs link as you can see all 4 cores are working. The more cores the merrier thats how I feel. Even if a app only uses a single core four apps can each use their own core. Also I believe as smart as the DEV are here it would not take them long to realize how to utilize each core either independently or together.
qualcomm is not going to have product to show until 2012, tegra 3 is half a cycle ahead with products in august of this year. This is a huge advantage and gives them more time for architecture optimizations.

No offense but most of things you post are loaded with immaturity. Sure the Tegra Quad-core will be cool. But Android is just barely supporting Dual-Core and even then there isn't one app in the Market that utilizes it. Again this is pointless especially in a phone.

So it's immature to post a link to an article? LOL Just because there aren't any apps that support it, then this technology should not be supported? So that means that devs must first write apps supporting technology which yet isn't supported? No offense but you have no clue what you are talking about.

The most common defense verbally is "you don't know what your talking about". No surprise that is your response. I never said the technology should never be supported, I do think that it is premature. Considering what four devices will have dual-core. So why do we need quad-core in the next 1yr to 1yr and half? Android isn't even fully supported with dual-core yet. Not to mention the app devs have not started writing support. Again if your going to sound like some kid and come back with a moronic response like that. Then ignore my posts.. The link was not immature, so you fail to understand. The content in your post and the title is what got you the immaturity label.
You know what's sad? That chip right there would be a much-needed improvement in my PC... And yet they're focusing on smartphones for this...
To the upset kitten, relax bra. He just has ideas and I'm all for the quad core but not yet. They need to slow this down instead of releasing all of these goodies at once because phones are starting to be more and more like computers...which is the point I suppose and I'm for it but dammit make my first gen snapdragon single core run like a boss!

I've been an android fan since the G1 but android needs something, something small that would make it completely PWN iOS, which it does but sucks for the everyday indepth user. Android is fragmented as hell and needs to be cleaned up which I'm hoping for in the upcoming android firmwares/updates. I think we can all agree that my Evo shouldn't have any trouble running its basic apps and hickups in scrolling, I need the loose ends tired up. With a 1Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM it should be totally s****ing on the iPhone.

I hear this everytime a new technology comes out.
It might useless this moment but it won't be when it comes out, or shortly there after.
I don't understand why people always try to dismiss new technology as useless just because it hasn't been the standard..[obviously, because it's new]
i dismiss it because our phones can't even properly use dual cores, and because a faster dual core over a quad core will often give your desktop higher user inference scores.

I'll confess something. I've had so far only two androids, a Galaxy S and the Xperia Play (which by the way, is in service center).
I think the Sony invests more in your consumers than the Samsung. I see guys upset (so far) by the slowness of the ICS on Xperia play, but look the other way, Samsung won't officially launch the ICS for the Galaxy S. Think Sony strives to provide the best for their Android phones.
The accessories by Sony are also good .. I have the Livesound, the DK300 dock for Xperia Play and ordered the SMartwatch on ebay...
I'm happy with Sony, and I haven't plans to change..
http://news.yahoo.com/leaks-suggest-playstation-nexus-phone-way-165700862.html
Here's a blurb:
This May, a report by Amir Efrati in the Wall Street Journal said that Google would be partnering with multiple different manufacturers at the same time for its next wave of Nexus devices. More recently, a leak reported by the Japanese-language site Android Noodles listed three different Nexus devices that were slated to be released soon, including a Sony Xperia Nexus. And with the recent release of the PlayStation Mobile marketplace on Sony Xperia phones, two of the biggest brands in tech might be about to collide.
If Nexus smartphones are "pure Android," how could it be a PlayStation phone?
A "regular source" to the Android and Me blog says that upcoming Nexus devices will allow manufacturer customizations, so long as they're put in a separate place and made optional.
In this case, the PlayStation Mobile store isn't preloaded on any devices right now, the way that its precursor and other gaming features were baked into the Xperia Play (and the way carriers usually pack bloatware onto non-Nexus phones). Instead, owners of Xperia phones have to visit a Sony website to download the store. So an Xperia Nexus may be able to use PlayStation Mobile without breaking Google's pure out-of-the-box Android experience.

It is an interesting development. I do like this push in Nexus development to bring more pure Android experiences and encourage manufacturers to make their pieces more optional.
I'll be more excited if we actually hear about a new Playstation-certified phone with gaming controls, though (EDIT: Note that the above article gives no indication of whether or not an Xperia Nexus would have integrated game controls). I'm hoping Sony is just waiting to find the right time when they have everything ready (Hopefully by the time my 2-year contract expires next Fall). Being the only phone with gaming controls gives us a bit of anti-fragmentation in that regard - developers who target us aren't targeting a slew of devices.
Meanwhile more and more devices are coming out Playstation-certified without gaming controls - even the HTC One X, which I think it is cool to see happen on another brand. I just hope this trend doesn't mean there won't ever be another phone with integrated game controls... 'cause beefier hardware would be nice at some point.

Guess there just isn't a big market for it yet, and rumors about Android 4.2 are saying that it will have a center where OEMs can make their skinned ROMs available while the user can update their phone with the pure Android versions whenever they want. So, different manufacturers are gonna have their own Nexus devices. You can google Android 4.2 and read up on the rumors, allegedly from a source known to be reliable.

Quad core Qualcomm Krait is LTE capable, and LTE compatibility was the only reason we didn't get quad core phones sooner
If it doesn't work out at least the Xperia Play is still going strong; no I'm not being sarcastic either: FPSe touch-pad support, Playstation Mobile, high-profile games like the Bard's Tale, support from great dev's like Hyper Dev Box. If everyone stopped supporting the Play in unison I'd still have years worth of gaming left on the device.
