Have a few Questions! - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

might sound a daft question, even.though most procedures to.install wp7 seem to be the same but explained differently, just would like to know which one u found easier? basically im after a very basic noobs guide!.hope someone can assist.i havnt flashed the hd2yet, ive been on many websites some with video tutorials.
i want to do it, but i dont want to screw it up..ive got a tmobile branded hd2 running 3.14 offical Rom. i know i need hspl 4 and 2.08.

Well, if you´re not familiar with flashing, it´s perfectly ok to be careful.
Installing WP7 on HD2 is really simple.
I suggest you download one of the newest builds out there (from May, those include the NoDo update).
Before installing it, you must prepare your HD2:
1) Using HSPL4, install HSPL version 2.08.HSPL
2) If not on your HD2, install Radio ROM 2.15.50.xx
3) Install MAGLDR 1.13
Now, you can go into MAGLDR bootscreen, select "USB flash", connect to the PC, and flash the ROM you downloaded.
That´s about it.
To return to WinMo, if wanted, just flash your stock ROM with the SD card method, everything will be put back to factory settings.

Wow , thats excellant mate..much appreciated ..

5) Install Zune
6) Install WP7 SDK
7) Install XAP's
i presume Zune is required to transfer data files ie music&video, are the other two steps neccesary? what do they do..? been reading other post about these but i cant seem to understand sorry

all sorted thanks

cant find the howto install android on hd2 thread

so what was it you flash hspl first? should i use a newer version or the 2.08 ok then do i flash the radio or clockworkmod? its just been so long sinced i switched from winmo to android i forgot how to do it lol thanks
It's still there. Link in my signature.
Basic steps
- 2.08.hspl
- Radio 2.08.50 (or higher 50)
- magldr 1.13
- if using cwm flash appropriate sized partition, or if daf then run from magldr.
That guide is the best! i've never done anything to my phone besies the t-mobile update and that was it. i was bored one day and decided to check into android hype. read the thread about 4 or 5 times and then tried.
everything went as planned and everything worked the first time. so i got to say thanks for making it so clear and easy to follow and understand.
im now on my third android build and loving it.

[Q]noob questions and noob help

hey guys i just got my htc hd2 and ive been playing with it lately but i cant seem to "crack the code" of this whole customization thing
i have been reading the guides and its been confusing and more confusing and more confusing now im completely lost cause i have no idea where the radio is coming from the custom rom or the file names that are mentioned in the guide. no doubt i feel dumb and retarded but a little help would be appreciated please and thank you.
i have htc hd2 t-mobile north america 1024 mb
i have installed hspl through the tool kit dont know if it worked or not i tried check it all looks the same to me. i dont know what to do next through the tool kit or the guides im trying to install cm7 nightly fingers crossed and still trying and phone isnt bricked. so any help would be great cause i have no understanding of what is going on at all like i am out, totally out of my mind trying to figure out the terms and procedures.
if anybody could point me to an extremely noob guide that would be great cause i read some and my brain is dead.
thanks alot appreciated to the max

You have to be careful when flashing the radio on a tmous model. This is where you can brick your phone. Do not use the radio that is used in the guide. I think it is not compatible Ruth the tmous hd2. Read here about it when you do not know what your doing. You should not start flashing before you understood everything what you do.
This is a step by step guide which you would have found when reading the stickies....

alright...calm down. Before you want to embark on any customization, ensure you have the correct HSPL and a radio on your phone. First enter the bootloader. Check your current SPL version. It should read HSPL2.08 if you have flashed HSPL correctly. If its correct, download and flash Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14** (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787). If you want to flash any another radio, ensure it is a .50 version(x.xx.50.xx**) After flashing the radio, enter the bootloader and check if the HSPL and radio is correct before you move on. If you want to flash a custom WM rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534), please do. Ensure that the ROM is compatible with the TMOUS HD2 (compatibility will normally be stated in the first post). A complete and detailed guide on all of the above can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614).
I understand that you want CM7 on your phone. To play safe, i recommend that you stick with windows mobile and tinker with a SD Android build before you to venture into dual booting WP7 and android.
Download an Android SD build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735). I am using AmeriCan Android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652). After extracting, copy the Android Folder into the root of your sd card. Boot into WM, navigate to the Android folder using the file explorer and tap 'clrcad' followed by 'haret'. Android will now boot(first boot will take some time).
Hope this helps and like what rauschkugl said, kindly do some research and reading first. Try the tutorials out and after you are comfortable with flashing, you can move on to WP7, NAND android and dual booting between Wp7 and SD Android: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17282874&postcount=3 (ignore step 1).
Gd luck flashing and enjoy!. Do ask if you are really unsure of something.

update i have installed my first nand cm7 rom feels awesome thanks alot everybody.
any good roms or suggestions for ones with good gps and battery life ?
did you install clockworkmod. if not you should do it because all new roms need it to be installed. i'm running ndt miui right now and for the last 5 month or something like that. tried a lot of roms but battery life on miui in comparison to cm7 was a lot better for me. it also has some nice features that cm doesn't have. but you should try it on your own.
i really can recommend the ndt roms from langthan. he gives great support in his threads and the roms are fast and stable.

to make a clean install you can begin from start (task 29, flash radio etc.)
but to be more practical, if you flash with the same nand partition size you can wipe data factory reset from ad recovery and you can flash new rom.
if they have different nand sizes then you just wipe data factory reset from recovery then apply new cwm partition using usb flasher, then flash new rom.
but all rom cookers recommend clean installation (including reformatting and repartitioning sd)

clockworkmod is for installing roms without the need of a pc. you can also backup your whole rom and restore it. so it is very usefull.
you would have to got to magldr to install it. then you can start cwm by selecting ad recovery in magldr. then cwm will start. if you want to install a rom now all you have to do is put the zip file of the rom to the root of your sd card and select install zip from sd in cwm menu. then chose your rom zip and your done. all new roms use cwm installable zips. so this is the only way to get able to use new roms.

Can I root/install android on an HD2 with a broken USB port?

I came across an HD2 with a broken USB port... ie i cannot charge through it or send/receive data through it. I can still use the phone by having a spare battery and an external battery charger
is there a way to install android on this without needing the USB port?
you need usb to install hspl, magldr and recovery....rom can be installed through sdcard...but to get there u need a usb..
changing usb port is easy if you know little bit of soldering and a spare usb head (you can get this in radioshack)...but u should know wat u r doing ...else u might damage the device
If you have HSPL installed, then you are lucky. You can Install cLK 1.5 from SD card with built-in recovery. Download from here.
Yeah, just dl clk1.5, extract the zip, copy the leoimg.nbh file to your sd, startup your mobile, press and hold the vol down key before starting (for ttricolored screen), and let it install clk (tricolored screen shoukd turn automaticly into grey and ask you if you want to install the.nbh file). Cwm comes with clk. And you can change the cwr(clockwork recovery) size via clk perfect ffor broken usb devices

Hi folks, I have a similar situation with a broken usb of a HD2. My radio is 2.05.51.05_2 and the SPL is 1.42.000. I don't have HSPL and I was wondering whether I can install any rom on it (wm6.5 or android). I am new to wm6.5, thus any suggestions would be great!

Unfortunately you can't install NAND Android as you can't install HSPL, however you can run SD Android. Just update to the latest stock ROM 3.14 via your SD card (search for a guide, something to do with downloading the package and renaming one of the files [I think RUU_Signed] to leoimg.nbh and flashing in bootloader). This will give you the required/compatible radio. Then just download an SD build, place it on the root of your SD card and run CLRCAD and HARET.
Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I have already tried this approach with Artemis_v370_0409_WWE rom, but the phone gets stuck at "Loading..." on a gray screen. I also downloaded RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe but as you might guess it was of no use due to the broken usb. Do you have any idea where I can find a stock 3.14 rom that can be installed as a .nbh?
Cheers

Here I think the process is the same, a custom ROM such as Artemis won't work as it requires HSPL
Thanks! The guide provides a link for for an official rom only in the end when stating "So, assuming you have flashed an official ROM over 2.10 via the SD card and you decide you want a custom ROM, follow these simple directions:
(You do not have to have your phone connected to your PC for these steps)
Download the "Official" ROM from here."
Yet, my rom is only 1.48. Should I flash it anyway?

I don't think it matters, but courtesy of mskip's tutorial here you can see that you have to:
- Download a shipped Rom from *HERE*
- Rename the extension to .zip
- open it with winzip and extract the RUU_signed.nbh file to a folder
- Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it to the root of a microSD card thats been formatted to FAT32
- Insert your storage card into your phone
- Enter Bootloader and follow onscreen instructions to flash
Thanks big time!!!
Lastly, which rom should I download? I heard some nasty things about bricking your phone by installing 2.08 or >2.10 through the sd method, but I didn't quite understand it...

Neither do I but if you've read about those issues then best not to do that. Basically use any ROM with a .50 Radio (it'll be in the name of the ROM) and you will be able to use SD Android
i dont think so....
Well, in fact, I was able to install wm6.5 v3.14 after I contacted HTC and they told me I need a Czech rom (?! ). After that my radio was 2.15.50.xx and now I am able to boot perfectly any SD Android rom! That's what I call a transformation!
The only problem I encounter is with Skype on every rom - it crashes and the mic works improperly.

Need Alittle help

My buddy want's me to flash his T-Mobile HTC HD2 he want android to replace the pos winmobile, but I am getting a headache from the different ways of doing it and coming to dead download links for files needed to do something.
I was trying to find a good tutorial video but even the Videos that are in the **HD2 Android NAND Development - Sticky Roll-Up Thread* are dead. I need the needed links for the files I need and a good and clear cut tutorial. Also What radio version is suggested in "Radio Thread for T-Mobile USA" for his phone.
The T-Mobile HTC HD2 was the recalled one because of the issues with Windows Mobile lagging, frezzing.

you can ignore the radio for now. its a tmous phone, so the current radio will not give any trouble. one less thing to worry about..
(lets assume you are flashing the paranoidandroid rom - this would require a 150meg system partition - all roms will tell you what partition size to use, it may for example say 150/5 - this means 150 system and 5 cache, , , see below) - get the rom you want, it will be a zip file, dont unzip it. copy it to your sd card.
get hspl4 (my sig)
get the nand toolkit (google for 'hd2 nand toolkit', probably top result)
phone into bootloader with voldown + power
run hspl4 - choose 2.08.hspl - - - double check this, nothing will work with anything but 2.08.hspl
back into bootloader
**
run the nand toolkit
click install magldr
phone will reboot into magldr menu - choose usb flashing
in nand toolkit on teh left select 150 in teh list, and type 5 in eth cache box below
click repartition magldr
when it reboots into magldr menu, choose option 8 - ad recovery - this will start CWM (clockworkrecovery) which was installed when you clicked the repartition magldr button
in cwm choose 'install zip from sd - choose zip from sd' and find teh zip you coppied over
thats it. In theory the phone will reboot and boot into android.
ok
I downloaded
-HD2ToolKit
-HSPL4
-MAGLDR version 1.13
So basicly with your instructions is like this w w w. youtube .c o m//watch?v=Zd9luUWJ34o&feature=fvwrel after MAGLDR is installed
My buddy was thinking about icecream sandwhich is there by chance a list of android for this phone or do you have a suggestion of a either for Gringerbread or Icecreamsandwich
Also another thing is I have a question is Backing up the contacts
go to the nand development thread, and pick a rom. read all of posts 1-3 of any rom you want to try, and make sure you take note of its required partition size.
they are all 'the best rom', so don't ask that question, hehe.
for contacts, if you have it currently synced with outlook, myphoneexplorer works well for me.
ok one more is if the Radio have issues like dropping out etc. if that happens would you suggest of the radio firmware be updated.
you could try SD ROM first then if you like it you can go to NAND, SD ROM is much easier to install, try the link link below it might help.
No matter what his phone needs it because when someone texts him the phone will lock up for 5+ min depending on the message and if there is an attachment. I gave him the choice of flavor of Android and he picked out MIUI Android distro en. miui .com/
Ran into a Snag his phone has SPL-2.10 go to have to downgrade it.
hspl3 or 4 can both handle 2.10, run hspl3, choose 2.08.hspl, done. , dont get caught out following old guides which say you must flash an older rom to downgrade it.
I used this and went with out a issue [GUIDE] Downgrading SPL from 2.10.0000 (stock TMO) to 2.08
My buddy's phone is now android and does not lock up when getting a text message I put the latest MIUI Android on it and they had the install guide on there site.

Need some help

I have HD2 with windows mobile 6.5, ROM version 3.14 and radio 2.15.
I am looking to install Android on my HD2. Can someone please advise on following -
1. If I install Android, can I revert back to Windows at a later stage? If yes, would that be possible by simply installing the Windows ROM ?
2. Is NAND install, an installation on memory card? If yes, what is the other type of install ?
3. Can someone point to the latest stable version of Android build that I can install ?
Thanks and please let me know if you need more details.

Thanks...Its a very useful tutorial.
To revert back to original WinMo 6.5 or to uninstall HSPL, can I just connect the phone to PC and run the packaged installer I downloaded from HTC site ?
Also, the tutorial mentions HSPL1, I have read elsewhere on this site to use HSPL4 for 6.5 ROMs and HSPL 3 for Android or WP7. Is that correct ?
I am still new and havent installed any custom ROM or Android on the phone yet, so apologies for any naive questions.
Finding 6.5 too restrictive and looking to upgrade to Android or WP7 on my HD2.

flashing stock from usb will reset everything EXCEPT it wont remove HSPL, , that's the whole original point of hspl, to allow flashing without itself being removed.
To remove hspl you could either flash the same stock rom but using the sd card method, OR just use the hspl program again, but this time select an spl that ends .0000 and not .hspl
So, example, , your spl is 3.03.0000, , you use hspl4.exe to set 2.08.hspl so that you can run magldr/android/wp7, , later you want to return to stock 3.14 so you flash the 3.14 rom over USB, and then run hspl4.exe again but choose 3.03.0000
