[Q] "charger disconnected" - Droid X General

When I plug my Droid into the car charger (always) it starts to charge, then says something like "Charger Disconnected" and it doesn't charge...this is really inconvenient because by the time I get to my destination I'm down to about 70-80% charge and I'm there for hours and my phone dies after 3 or 4 (no power where I'm at so no I can't plug it in, this is twice a week for me).
Why is my car charger (genuine VZW) "disconnecting" and how can I stop it?
Thanks

If it doesn't do it with your home charger, I'd guess that the car charger is faulty. You can get the original Motorola P513 car charger on Amazon for between $3.15 and $6.00.

Get a new cord

It does it on two different car chargers, one of which is brand new VZW from a VZW store ($35) (the same day I posted) my phone actually says something like, "charger disconnected, remove charger from the wall to conserve energy" with a green plant image.
It's not a broken cable, it's inside my phone...how the hell do I disable it?

I don't have a fix, but if my phone is less than 50% charged, it does charge normally - I didn't get more than about 10% charge though before I got home, so I have no idea when it does the auto disconnect, it's really annoying.

My Wizard is dead!

The battery died on my Wizard. It kept beeping at me telling me that it was going low and then finally it powered itself off. Now, it won't even take a charge. (I plug the charger in and it doesn't even light up.)
Cingular is sending me a new 8125, but I was wondering if there was a way to get this one working before Monday so I can get some data off of it.
I'm sure I probably need a stronger charger, as I've heard that the 1A charger that comes with the Wizard sometimes will correct this issue. (I bought my 8125 off of eBay and the guy only sent some aftermarket travel charger for a V3.)
how about borowing a charged baterie from a friend or even the from aCingular store.
You need the original charger to charge the battery when it gets dangerously low. If the battery completely died, you most likely damaged it anyway (it's a lithium battery, and should never be allowed to drain all the way). When the new one comes, try the new battery in the old unit.
You have to charge it with the original charger, if you don't have or you still have problems you can see here what i do to charge the battery:

Interesting.. I'm going to try that in the morning.
Normally it's plugged in most of the time in the car cradle. I had been using it for navigation all day on Friday and I was in and out of the car all around the city so I guess I forgot to plug it in most of the time. (I had my BT GPS plugged in instead.)
Hope that works!
That worked!
It was kind of "ghetto" but cutting apart an old USB cable. holding the red/black wires to the +/- terminals on the battery respectively for about 3 minutes jolted it back to life! That was just enough to get enough juice to load Windows, to seemingly activate the charging circuit.
Wonder what I should do.. Take the warranty 8125 or send it back saying I got mine working. Reloading will be a pain though, so I might just keep this one.

Charger provides 1000 mA, yet phone only takes 500.

Hi,
I bought a wall charger for my N1 today. I was searching for one with 1000 mA output so the phone would charge twice as fast, but after having it on for a long time and seeing that it was only 22% charged, I looked at the battery status and it said "USB". I unplugged it, plugged the stock adapter and it said "AC", and started to charge at the usual speed.
Is there a way to have wall chargers that are NOT the ones provided by HTC charge at a normal speed? thanks!
Interesting... it happens the same thing with an iPhone charger, which have the same output characteristics as the stock charger. I never thought looking at the battery status
FWIW, you can easily see if your phone is charging fast or slow by installing the quick system info app (AC=fast, USB=slow).
I'm using the 1000 mA charger with the USB to micro USB cable that came bundled with the phone. Might it be the cable limiting the power?
I've been trying to figure this out too...
I bought a USB car charger to charge my phone in the car whilst driving.
However even with my phone on standby it still loses power.... I don't know whether it's because I'm using the USB cable or the charger is inferior.
It is rated a 1000mA (the charger).
I bought the HTC car charger from expansys.. bit costly at around £20 for a charger but it works perfectly for me. Drove 4 hours with copilot running, and battery remained perfectly charged
As well as the stock charger, I often use a pikie USB charger with a Nokia micro USB cable... phone reports an AC charger in use.

Nexus 7 Car Charger Issue

Hey all, quick question.
I have my Nexus 7 installed in my car. Originally it was getting power from a 500mah USB car charger, but it didn't provide enough power to the tablet when running GPS/maps, etc.
So I bought an "8Ware Dual USB Car Charger 5V/2A" to try. I plugged it in, and the tablet doesn't detect it or charge from it. However I can plug my Galaxy S3 into it and it charges fine.
Really confused about this - it makes no sense.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
I understand your frustration and it sucks!!
But sometimes even when it says UNPLUGGED and NOT CHARGING, just leave it there for 30-60 minutes. You might see that your battery actually increase... This happens with my Griffin PowerJolt Dual USB car charger also.
You can either blame the device or you can start blaming other issues like the charger, the usb cable etc but for me, I blame primarily on the device.

Thanks for that. I tried plugging it in for a while but it definitely didn't get a charge.
Hey All.. I looked forever to find a solution. The Targus 2A car charger has a small (3") adapter cable that comes with it purportedly for Galaxy Tab. That little cable with the data wires shorted on the device end allows the N7 to be charged from ANY 2A car charger. I'm using the adapter with a Scosche dual 2.1 Amp Car Charger

Edit: I just built a usb cable with the data wires shorted on the Nexus end (cut, strip, short micro usb end green and white, remake connections red to red and black to black, insulate splices individually, wrap all in electrical tape or heat shrink for strength and beauty) and it works with all chargers. Took about 20 minutes.

Problem with charging from a car charger

I have a problem charging my phone at the car. When I connect the phone to the charger, the charging is constantly switching on and off draining the battery in minutes. I tried other devices and they are being charged fine. The phone itself charges from the wall socket without any problems. I just wonder what the problem is. I am attaching a log in case someone could take a look.
Actually, if I plug in the phone to the car charger, it discharges rather than charges even if it is turned off.
have you tried another car charger to rule that out? if you dont have another one try borrowing one from a friend or something to test it out. i had a similar problem with my N4 and a new car charger resolved it.

I dont think it'd be a problem of your phone. If the phone is charging okay with the wall socket charger then your phone is fine. I'd suggest trying out another car charger.
Looks like it was a problem with the cable. It is not from N4 and used to hold fine but now it seems a bit loose. Thanks a lot, everyone, for suggestions.

Is Turbo Charge works only if charger plugged first and then connect the phone?

Just arrived home from work now with 13% of battery.
I plugged my phone and then plugged the charger to the wall (Original charger).
No "Turbo Charge Connected" toast appeared.
After about five minutes i had 16% and it said i need 2 hours more to be fully charged.
i unplugged the AC from the wall, unplugged the phone, and then plugged again (but this time plugged the charger to the wall first and then the phone) and then i had the toast message and it says 36 minutes left...
I tried it again and got the same result
Is it normal?

Definitely not normal.
Turbo charge work fine if i plug my phone in 1st.
Well....
Maybe it's because i have the US charger and i need to use adapter to fit the electricity here in Israel ?
adapter like this:

*** EDIT ***
It is probably charger's issue. (Maybe because of the adapter)
I tried my Tronsmart charger (5 port charger with Quick Charge) and it works fine even if i plug the phone first...
**** EDIT 2 ****
I replaced this US to EU adapter to new one and now turbo charging is working fine even if i plug the phone first.
Thank you all

I had the problem and solved and answered on my own
I believe its due to weak first connection; whether because of extra shell(cover) or weak connection of USB when attached.
I made a habit of looking for the type of connection from the battery view(AC or USB) after i plug it in.
edit: I have the US charger too...
edit2: the problem disappeared, possible reasons:
maybe USB port or jack got loose and stopped causing the issue
or because I changed the cover I was using....
I have the same problem with multiple chargers. Getting a toast to say "turbocharge connected" happens only after I reconnect it twice. Seems like a bug in my phone.

I edited my previous reply, it may help; observe/do accordingly and report if there's any improvement or not.
There may be another issue due to detection of the phone as a quick charge 2.0 capable device therefore the adapter not charging with full capacity.
Remove extra shell/cover/frame before and plug in firmly at once.
