The battery died on my Wizard. It kept beeping at me telling me that it was going low and then finally it powered itself off. Now, it won't even take a charge. (I plug the charger in and it doesn't even light up.)
Cingular is sending me a new 8125, but I was wondering if there was a way to get this one working before Monday so I can get some data off of it.
I'm sure I probably need a stronger charger, as I've heard that the 1A charger that comes with the Wizard sometimes will correct this issue. (I bought my 8125 off of eBay and the guy only sent some aftermarket travel charger for a V3.)
how about borowing a charged baterie from a friend or even the from aCingular store.
You need the original charger to charge the battery when it gets dangerously low. If the battery completely died, you most likely damaged it anyway (it's a lithium battery, and should never be allowed to drain all the way). When the new one comes, try the new battery in the old unit.
You have to charge it with the original charger, if you don't have or you still have problems you can see here what i do to charge the battery:

Interesting.. I'm going to try that in the morning.
Normally it's plugged in most of the time in the car cradle. I had been using it for navigation all day on Friday and I was in and out of the car all around the city so I guess I forgot to plug it in most of the time. (I had my BT GPS plugged in instead.)
Hope that works!
That worked!
It was kind of "ghetto" but cutting apart an old USB cable. holding the red/black wires to the +/- terminals on the battery respectively for about 3 minutes jolted it back to life! That was just enough to get enough juice to load Windows, to seemingly activate the charging circuit.
Wonder what I should do.. Take the warranty 8125 or send it back saying I got mine working. Reloading will be a pain though, so I might just keep this one.

My battery went flat and I can't find my mains charger, so I connected it to my laptop using the usb cable, with the intention of recharging it. But it doesn't seem to be charging and I can't turn it on at all. Is that normal? Will it only recharge from a mains charger when the battery's dead? Finally, is it safe to by any odd charger off ebay etc.?
I do not know if that is normal or not. However with regards to charging, I have used a Motorola charger with USB connection successfully in the car and from the mains.
If it is all the way dead, you have to charge with original charger. USB charge will not work. Nor will a Motorola charger work. I think that as long as the charger is 5volts, you should be okay. My Motorola charger is like 3v or something.
Thanks
I had the same problem. It does not charge in the beginning, however, if you leave it connected to USB, it will start charging in an hour or so. damn long, but it's better than nothing...
Tried to keep it connected via usb for a few hours, no luck, guess I'll just have to wait till I've bought another mains charger. There seem to be plenty of cheaper ones on ebay etc., is it safe to buy any usb charger?
This happened to me, and I nearly had a heart-attack until I came to these forums for a solution. Apparently, the phone has to be on for the charger (mains or usb) to actually charge the phone. This is because the operating system of the phone controls the charging of the phone. If the battery is completely dead, the operating system cannot control the charging, and so no matter what kind of charger you use, and no matter how long you leave it plugged in, you won't be able to charge the battery.
The only way to get it to work is to get a bit of charge into the battery directly - not through the phone. In other words, you need to jump start the battery (almost like you would jump start a car's battery). What I did was take the battery to a phone repair shop, and asked them to boost the battery using boosting equipment. Their battery testing equipment will be able to tell you when there's sufficient charge to get it going. Then turn on the phone and plug in the charger immediately once it's booted up (in other words, when the operating system can kick in and start controlling the charging process).
Hope this helps.
PS, there's a post on this forum somewhere on how to do-it-yourself, but in the long run, I found my way to be the easier way.
PPS. Once your phone is back up and running, never let the battery run down completely.
Same happens to Motorola V3.
It is ridiculous design flaw.
This is really annoying, I was hoping to sort this out with a new charger (in the post now) but looks like I'm going to have to go to a t-mobile shop. Will they definitely have something to charge the battery a bit, or should I start looking into buying something to charge the battery at home?
Yes you need the main charger.
I was using my other phones charger(motorola) with my cingular 8125 and battery is completly empty it doesn't charge it.
Didn't wait for a hour but if that works. It's good i love my wizard
motorola V3 chargers do work. used the missus' when battery ws completely dead. interestingly, doesnt work the other way around...... :?:
help with my dead battery
Bdcol
Could you direct me to that post on how to charge a dead battery - I have searched but can't find it. This is a really annoying problem - does anyone know of a commercially available battery charger which doesn't need the phone OS (the battery looks pretty standard to me).
Many thanks
Chris
p3600 will not charge anymore, when i put in htc headset, the headsets work, but windows won't find it, and can't charge through wall ac adapter either

Happens to me ocasionally.
Try a softreset and it will charge again.
Happens to me all the time...
Can it be connected to the fact that some applications crash and leave the system unstable ?
I did soft and hard reset, but it won't charge. Now the phone is dead, i am in the process of arranging funeral with HTC. I email HTC, have not heard from them yet.
May your P3600 rest in peace...and be quickly replaced (maybe only the battery pack...)
My phone is acting very weird too. I charged it up, left it overnight. Turned it on in the morning, it was at 90%, after about 3 minutes of wifi, it was at 80%.
Charing - need 500mah
Make sure that you're using the right charger - I was using accessories from my Dopod 818 Pro - the P3600 would say it was charing, but wasn't actually -because we need a 500mah instead of 250mah (or some such).

my trinity stop charging too...
the headset works fine but it doesn't charge and don't sync too... i've tried hard reset but still not charge...
how do you fix that?
Have to send it to assistence?
I've the same problem... help!!!!!!!
Did anyone get anywhere with this? Been a while and no updates.
My GF uses my old Orange SPV M700 as a GPS in the car, and plays solitaire.
It started to drain really quickly then it refused to charge at all.
I figured the battery had died, so bought a cheap compatible to check it was that.
The cheap compatible came 80% charged, but after two hours of charging, while switched on, battery was showing 70%
I've tried both the original HTC charger and the motorola charger that came with my Bluetooth headset.
Neither seem to work, does it sound like a soft reset might help, or does it sound like the phone is kippered.
I'm not an Orange customer any more (They wouldn't do me a good deal on an Omnia), and it is only as a SatNav/PDA rather than phone, so while it would be no mad loss if is dead, SWMBOd doesn't want to spend out on anything to replace it.
I problem with mine was the mainboard, and it had to be replaced.
If yours still has warranty, deliver it to a repair center.
If not, you have to find a way to charge the battery on another device...

I guess I'm looking for an external battery cradle and then and keeping a spare battery charged.
I think the phone is nearly 2 years old and out of contract
Just a quick update.
Both the motorola and htc USB chargers I have are both full 550miliamp usb chargers.
When plugged in the led goes from solid red, to flashing orange, temporarily to solid orange then a low battery warning, might be fine for 5 minutes or half an hour, then cycles back to solid red and arround again.
Well, this is the first time i have made a thread. I bought an HTC Wizard about 2 weeks ago, i got it from a guy on ebay. The charger that came with it worked great, no problems at all, just happy to have my pocket pc back. the other day i ran in to a problem i was stuck with a dead mda and no charger. I went to the store and bought an iGo charger. i figured since my batt. was completly dead i would have to let it sit on the charger for a while. It charger for 24 hours and nothing, no indicator light not bootloader no power up. i finally got the charger that came with the phone. and it still will not charge. i tested both the chargers and the fuction properly with other phone so that rules that out. i need help i am now out of a phone. can some one HELP ME!!!
Try to charge the battery with other phone, you might need to 'Jump Start' the battery.
A completely discharged battery will only get charged with a wall charger capable of 1 amp out put or jump start the battery and it'll start to charge, but if the battery is gonner and faulty,it won't charge at all, you'll have to get a new one.
I think I'm having the same problem as the OP. My phone ran dead the other day in the middle of a call. I tried to restart it so I could send a text to the person I was on the phone with to let them know that I would call back when I charged my phone. It stuck on the splash screen and I'm pretty sure that it drained the battery completely. Now, it won't charge and the indicator doesn't come on.
Can you tell me more about this "jump start" that you speak of? More specifically, can you explain how to do it and what is needed?
What you need to do is get ahold of a standard 9-voly batter and 2 wires. On your Wizards battery, locate the positive(+) and negative(-) terminals, and hole one end of each wire there, then on the 9-volt, hold the corresponding wire to said terminal(pos to pos, neg to neg) and hold it there for approximantely 30 seconds. After waiting for 30 seconds, put the battery back in the Wizard and connect it to a wall charger that outputs 1AMP or higher and it should charge.
Same thing happened to me -let the battery get too low and then couldn't charge it with the phone. I bought a desktop charger for wizard battery from ebay and a spare battery. The performancde from the battery is much better from the desktop than it is when charged in the phone. For the sake of £3 it's worth a shot.
I received my HD yesterday and did what it says in the book: charge the battery right away. Within a few hours the battery was fully charged. So far so good.
But much later in the day after heavy use of the phone, the battery was again drained and when I attempted to recharge it the charger simply would not work.
Has anyone encountered problems with the charger?
Im sending the phone back to the supplier Play.com

Maybe you just need a new battery....ofcourse if you don't mind the wait..send it back for a whole new unit. New batteries can be funny. Its best to leave it charging even though it says its fully charged. Let it charge for more than an hour after it says its full on a brand new battery. Battery performance will get better after a week of charging.
Dont think battery is at fault
Thanks for reply utvol06.
Dont think the battery is at fault. When I connect the phone to my PC the battery charges OK.
Johannes.
I had same prob....
Make sure the 3 pin adapter is FULLY pushed into the charger and try again
Fully clicked into place
Yes it is fully clicked ito place. No luck.
Sounds like the charger is banjaxed
I had the same but by resetting (i.e. unplugging & replugging) the 3 pin adapter from the charger fixed it.
I would send it back
Hi!
I sent my charger back to Clove and they will send a replacement.
USB connector to charger was wobbly.. and I had apply traction to the cable to make the contacts work.
I tried a different cable in the charger and also tried the charger in my Kaiser.
Conclusion, USB connection on charger unit was duff.

Need some feedback, any one has had a bad battery yet? I had mine charging up to 85% yesterday and went back to bed thinking that today (sunday) morning will wake up and do some early stuff but I woke up late and had a dead Streak next to me. I left it charging overnight (I know it was only 15%) but you never know when you're going to need that extra juice. I tried turning it on, no luck, took the batt out tried turning on with only the mains plugged in, no go, I had blinking LEDS for a short moment then it turned off and that was it until I decided to jump start the phone (I don't recommend doing this to no one) with a BB Bold Battery (3.7V 1500mAh) all of a sudden I get the battery with exclamation mark, like I had a dead battery, I've only had the device for 2 weeks, also this is a Beta Unit I bought "AS-IS" but the problem was a simple restore and not the battery. now I manage to charge the battery in a raw way, just hot wired into a 4.2v DC. now the big question...
I'm at 40% battery it is draining very little, I would even say it is under normal operation, but i can't tell I don't have a SIM on it ATM. but I checked on "spare parts" to see status of the battery and it all seems ok but the bit that says BATTERY STATUS: discharging
No matter where I plugged the wire it is discharging, the phone is being detected on windows/mac any computer I plug, the phone does detect where the source is coming it says AC when I plug into the charger that came with, if I plug it into the USB of the computer it does says USB but it will never say charging, I even transfered files to the phone to test the wire, seems to me I have a crappy battery but just need more feedback, anyone has had this problem before? on any phone should I call Michael Dell and order another batt?
P.S. I have a BB Javelin had the same problem did jump started the battery and now the mobile is charging no probs and it DOES hold charge.
UPDATE: Ok guys any of you running 2.1 (8105) on your USA Beta (probably regular too) and have this issue about not charging, I went back to 1.6 (4399) issue is gone, I also had the crazy screen couldn't unlock/answer phone, will see if that is gone too, more than likely it is but I'm not 100% sure.
if it wont charge using usb or mains but only by jump starting it, then the streaks charging circuit is most probably f***ed.
