Got my phone stolen.

just felt like sharing.
I got my phone stolen on the train!
I as talking on the phone when my friend call, and the perp just snatches it from my hand!
I have the remote protect program installed on my phone and I still didn't get any txt yet.
I hope I get the txt soon.
I also have google latitude installed. but I think it only updates when the app is running right?
I don't really care about the phone. but i just want these perps caught!
My phone is very unique, cuz i used putty to mod the D-pad.
I wonder if they will sell it on ebay or something.
or maybe just toss it.

I doubt they would sell on eBay, ppl who snatch phones would not have a pc even lol. seriously.

I really hate criminals like these guys.. I used to be a care free kid until that day i got mugged... I was just walking listening to music, and without knowing, I walk into a group of black kids who shove me to the floor and steal my ipod and cellphone. Iam really cautious now whenever i go out. Like if i ever see some thugs coming my way i'll take the long way just to avoid them. And i rarely take out my ipod/cellphone when iam out alone.
Anyways, hope those dicks get caught. You did call the cops right? They usually dont do anything, but when enough crime reports occur they'll do something.

Yea, i called the cops and filed a report.
thats the only way I can get them if i do get the txt.
If i don't, then getting that txt won't do anything.
I got mugged more than once before. and I'm also careful.
but sometimes, **** just happens anyway.
Still no sms from the preps sim yet. so they prob just using it as some PDA or they hard reset it.
I gotta change all my email passwords now.
Im kinda pissed i didn't get the txt from remote protect. I want to hard reset my phone remotely. I got photos of family and my address(if they read my emails) in there.
the detectives said they prob have them on cam, so I'll be going in to tomorrow check it.
I don't want the phone back, I just want those bastards caught!

Well that's good to hear. Yeah, i feel the same way you do, stuff can be easily replaced but knowing those little ****s are still out there just makes me pissed. Hey, tell us if they ever catch them okay?

My problem is, if something like that happened to me, someone would be going to jail/hospital. It might be me, but they wouldn't forget about trying to take whatever it was, at least one of them would be hurting.

normally well where I'm at when you get your phone stolen you report it to the cops
and give them the imei nr
which they then put on the block list of all the phone companies in the country and other countries they have arrangements with
and the phone can't be used with any sim card

Really sad my friend, sorry.... any message yet?

Aww, it really sucks to hear that. Cops usually dont help much when it comes to crime like these. Anyways atleast you can finally upgrade from the 8525.

Phone insurance advice

So my hero's track ball has been glitching out on me for awhile now and i want to know if you guys think it's covered by insurance?
And if it is since i have mine rooted and running Deadmau5 CM and clockwork mod will running an ruu put everything back to normal so at the sprint store they won't know any diff?

i'm not sure...but the trackball messing up is a hardware problem therefore souldn't matter what rom you are running or if your phone is rooted...that's my view on it...

If you're running a different firmware they will for sure blame it on that. Put the original firmware on it then take it to a sprint store that doesn't have a service center in it. They will order you a replacement Hero

several weeks to a month after buying my hero back in april, i severally cracked the screen. just recently in the last two months i took it into a sprint store (the one i bought it from, which had a service-center inside, but also a differently owned franchise) and they didn't care about the phone being rooted and thought it was really cool i had froyo on it... they didn't even know it was rooted or froyo'd until it turned back on after they fixed the glass, which was free because i have full coverage insurance, and they noticed, at the time, i was running CM6. So the manager started fooling around with it and was like, is this froyo on your hero? and i stated, yessir, lol, and he was like thats cool man, hell yea dude, and stated he didn't care what i did to the phone... but it being a hardware issue like mine was, they shouldn't, but then again, i was dealing with a franchise not a corprate store too... that might make a difference, it might not... worse case seniro is that you take it in being rooted and what not and they say they can't do anythingn for you, and you just make a nandroid backup of your current ROM and then backup your sd-card onto your computer, then put the Sense-bloatful-bull**** back on it and take it back in... now they can't say a thing... but you shouldn't have an issue...

*cough-cough* AOSP runs faster *cough-cough* hahaha... CM6 was nice though, i really liked it, a little more customizable though, but if you know your way around linux or fooled around with the kitchen and/or some other stuff, you can pretty much do or add anything to AOSP...

My brother has a cracked digitizer and he also has full coverage and he took it in and they just told him the insurance doesn't cover user damage.

Sprint's TEP
Have your brother print this out and ask the rep to explain it..clearly states that TEP now covers physical damage. You only need Asurion for lost or water damage devices. Sprint covers the rest.

[Q] HTC desire hd lost&found

hello guys, I just found a HTC desire hd in the bar where I work, its been 2 weeks since the guy lost it, what should I do, I know that this phone might be traced by internet or gps, or maybe I dont know, maybe I'm wrong...now I just want to keep it. any danger?

It probably can be if he's set it up right, but you can use that to help return it to him (assuming that's what you're intending). As far as I know it does use GPS.

The right thing to do is find out who's phone it is and return it , its pretty easy with the data kept on phones "now a days".. The HTC online service can used to lock the phone , wipe data , track phone etc. But this feature is useless if the phone is off or the sense account is deleted or changed on the phone.
Correct me if I'm wrong !

Do the right thing. Return it.

Hand it in to your local police station, make sure they log it and give you a reference number. Then after a set period of time, possibly 4 weeks, if the owner has not claimed it you can legally claim it.
However, the owner has probably reported it as lost and had it network barred. Not sure if you can then get it removed, but that is the right thing to do.

I found some guys phone once, read his msgs and txt a few people to let them know I had found it. He rang me up on it and asked me to meet him at a certain place and time, I told him I was working at that time so would have to meet him an hour or so later, he went mad at me over the phone saying I should meet him when he said! I just laughed at him and told him Id be there later. After meeting up with the guy he showed no appreciation for what I had done to get his phone back to him, some people huh?

Wow miclair. That is just sad. You have much more class than I do. Still showing up and giving them the phone after they get.mad when you were trying to.do the right thing. I commend you for that.

When I lost my htc hd 2 year ago, I was so anxious and hopeful the person will return it. Given the situation I lost the phone, at following situation
1 am,
Empty land car park,
Poor light,
Less than 10 minutes from suspect lost spot

Ok it might be on here already but.... i dont know how many times or different ways i can vary my words in hopes of a different response.
I have the 'epic' of course galaxyS 4g from sprint. Im completely locked out. I left i at a buddy's house and they got drunk and were playing with it. Worst of all i forgot my password so i'm in a bit of a bind here. I've tried each and every way to get to the bootloader i can think of and it's too the point i just want to break it in a trillion pieces but! i dont want to loose the money i spent on this aledged investment. Help please!!!!

Hopefully u have a recent nandroid or beat it out of your buddy

If you don't want to save data, you can reset by 3 finger salute, volume down/camera (while holding those 2 down) now hit the power button, reset to factory...

Just take it into a Sprint store. They will help you. Why haven't you called them yet? Of course they're going to verify that you own it, so if that's an issue, GOOD LUCK.....of course you should turn it in to sprint so they can return it to its owner.
Seems a little odd that a Sprint customer having such an issue with their phone wouldn't have tried them first. You have 2 posts, so one could deduce that you don't follow the forum.

Of course, we do thank you for understanding who the leader of smartphone forums are. And since you stated that you've asked the question several times previously, and only have 2 posts, I assume this isn't your first forum you've visited with such an issue.
I had someone once who couldn't 'remember' "their" laptops boot password, and based on the fact they had to ask, I didn't think for one second about not mentioning that wiping the bios would do it. The story then changed to 'oh I just bought it from a pawn shop', but having dealt with pawn shops before, one would already know that they're not going to take in a machine with even the OS password'd, let alone the BOOT!

actually it just happened because i got it back today i posted this round 11pm yesterday now so the option i do have now is to take it back to sprint thnx though

fair enough will do next time although i'm unreasonably new to this stuff..... but i will learn and i will conquer i've down loaded and installed so much much it's a process....

Its not that hard to do a factory reset but I was in the same position this guy was in when I first got the phone... my gf locked me out and I had no idea how to get into recovery mode until I saw the sprint rep do it....

Ha, NOT locking your phone makes you end up like this guy! If you have a lock, no matter how talented of a drunk one may be, they're not getting past your 'lock'.
Now an unlocked phone can have one put onto it, as stated by the OP

You might as well just reset the wipe the phone. That is exactly what Sprint will tell you to do. Or try to request your gmail password.

[Q] SMS Recovery

This was just the other night. I was at the gym doing my thing when my phone starts acting up. Freezing, dropping wifi connection and the apps were behaving oddly.
I contributed all of this to the lollipop that I decided to ignorantly update to my phone.
Anyway as just the other night I begin searching and piecing it all together to downgrade it back to kitkat. I was tired woke up at 4am and took me 7 hours to figure it out.
Once I finally did though I backed up my pictures, video and thought I was in the clear. Well during the flash process I made 1st mistake and put the file that was for nexus 5 kitkat not nexus 4. So it never booted up. I reflashed again to kitkat. It booted. And by this time I thought I was in the clear and all is well.
Come to find I being the stupid dumb animal I was forgot to backup my text messages.
I can't describe the loss. I am SO pissed at myself being I literally held them all in my hand not even a day ago. And it is burning me up to lose SOOO much so quick. On top of that feeling I have no control to get them back. I had the files all on my pc sitting there and I picked and choosed. I should of just moved it all over. Then maybe maybe I would have a chance. Ugh.
Now I prolly am screwed but I literally will do most anything to get these back. I am desperate. As I had many conversations going with a lot of my friends and others in fitness industry and now I have to start from scratch again.... I would rather most definitely not.
I contacted a forensic team to discuss possibility and they said less than 1% chance..... I have heard of developers being able to freeze phones, steal data, and everything else under the sun. Please is there anyone out there who can help me? A google developer who knows something he never was meant to share. Im looking for anything. I tried different recovery softwares and they found nothing. I really don't want to give up hope.
I am so sad and pissed to lose so much. It like someone took a nuclear digital bomb and blew up my world. My digital ecosystem. It never crossed my mind that they would be gone
Please if anyone out there can help and if they know something I haven't tried I would be indebted and most grateful if you would be willing to help me. If someone can will you help me please?
