Hey all,
Got my Vibrant today and am loving it. I do have one issue however. Unfortunately, Eclair doesn't have a patch in it that Froyo does. Specifically, this patch: https://review.source.android.com/#change,10576
Unfortunately, I need that patch to be able to connect my phone to my college's email systems. Can anyone give me some idea of how to get that patch and then use it on my phone til 2.2 is out? Or, if possible, could someone simply give me a file that I could just install using Clockwork?
I'd appreciate any help that you guys are willing to give. Thanks!
Hey, I couldn't connect to my college internet, but I flashed eugene froyo rom and now everything works perfect. I've also flashed it on a friends vibrant who couldn't connect before and now it works perfect.

By the way, there is a clock work image you can download for froyo and it only take maybe 10 minutes to install and reboot.
Edit: go to samsung vibrant development sub forum and find eugene froyo rom r2. Just download the recovery image and read all the instructions.

Got distracted the past few days by classes and am just now getting the chance to come back to this.
Anyway, I don't want to flash another ROM. I'm quite happy, for the most part, with Bionix Fusion. The problem is, again, that patch. I'm so used to having my school email on my phone (just switched from a Blackberry) that I forgot to check it and nearly missed some important emails.
I'll consider switching ROMs if I must (though, I didn't see that ROM you mentioned crazy25000. Perhaps you meant R1?), but I'd prefer to just get a patch that I can flash via clockwork.
So, can anyone else help me out here? I'd really appreciate it.
I have had my X for around 6 months and have wanted to flash a rom but have been scared to say the least! I have a nandroid of my phone which is up to date OTA, rooted, overclocked, and otherwise stock. My question is if I flash this rom and for some reason don't like it, can I restore with my nandroid and get my phone back to the way that it is without any issues? Also, does this rom delete my contacts and other information? I really like the backup assistant for all of my contacts (over 500). Thanks in advance for any answers and advice!

As long as you take a nandroid backup you are safe =) I recommend syncing your contacts to google...then no matter what rom you use, you can always pull your contacts back down. So yes, it will wipe out your contacts.
Let me know if you have more questions! =)

Yeah if you didn't like the liberty rom you could restore your nandroid backup and it will literally be exactly the same when you backed it up... regarding your issue about contacts...when you flash a new rom... once its done installing and boots up its like the first time you turned your phone on so yes everything will be deleted... if you're worried about apps download titanium back up pro and back up your apps and data.. or it will download all yours all from the market...your issue about contacts, personally i used the back up assistant first but ended up just using google contacts because its the easiest way to restore contacts when you flash roms every so often... that's my opinion, i may be wrong...and if you're scared about flashing a rom... i think everyone was on their first time... you just gotta go for it!

Just wanted to thank you guys for your input. I went ahead and installed the rom, used Titanium to back up my apps and so far I LOVE IT! It is ALOT faster than stock, just have to get used to the new UI. I also took the liberty since I was experimenting with something that I can't live without and did the uncapped data mod. I am hoping that it will make a difference as well. I have alot of new things to test and play with tonight, just hope that I can go to sleep so that I can make it to work tomorrow!
A special thanks to the developers for this rom, it is AWESOME!
Don't just limit yourself to liberty...i agree when people say roms are a personal choice... so give all of them a chance!

If I use titanium to backup my apps can I load my apps into the rom I decide to flash? And how do you go about it?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah if you back up your apps with titanium pro..you just restore them once you flash the rom...ill make a nandroid of roms i like... but i always stick to apex... i like some blur stuff...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I recently took the leap and flashed my first rom a few days ago too. I ended up going with Apex and like it much better than stock so far. I am thinking of doing like hullie said above and trying out some different ones in the coming weeks like Liberty and GummyJar. It's definitely scary at first, but once that first boot up was complete, the look on my face was like a child on Christmas morning.
I agree-was scared at first like getting my first xxxxx! Lol-anyway, now its second nature as long as you have your backup. Try darkslide rom. Two versions. Blur and blurless..

Correct. By default I don't believe any of the custom ROM's (just a guess..can't recall for sure) come with google maps installed. You must pull this down yourself.
Thanks guys

Yeah, installing your first ROM can be quite nerve-racking, but once you've done it you say to yourself, 'that's it? i was so worried about that for nothing!".
I'm currently on my first ROM, which is Liberty, and although I love it, I can't use the camcorder for some reason to record movies. I tried installing both the aosp camera and blur camera, but both just FC.
the very minute before you install the rom make a nandroid and remember to ALWAYS wipe the phone before installing the rom. if you dont like the rom, reinstall dxbootstrp from the market and recover your nandroid.
as for your contacts: screw backup assistant. sync ALL your contacts with google and they will be automatically on your phone as soon as you sign in with you google account.

Did you update to the 2.3.340 update before installing LIberty? I was running Liberty on top of 2.3.15 and this is due to an incompatible library (.so) file in /system/lib
If you want the files for 2.3.15, let me know. I have them laying around someone :looks around:
The latest update I did was the one ota that included Madden. Is that 2.3.15?

No you are on 2.3.340. I'm not sure why you are having problems with the camera. If it really bothers you, I would suggest re-flashing liberty.

Dear All

right now i using 2.4 voodoo with enable lagfix.
Do i have to :
1. go to cwm, disable lagfix
2. wipe all
3. restore eclair backup
4. reboot, flash by odin di01modem.tar
5. that's it
is it work to get me back my eclair stock rom??

Rocking dj05 and jt's voodoo 5
It is my understanding that if you run the complete odin package it will overwrite even voodoo.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i have killed my phone 3 times not disabling voodoo correctly when flashing roms. and each and every time adrynalyne's full di01 restore package has overwritten the whole thing for the win.
so if you are going back to bone stock, unrooted, full bloated eclair, (ie because you need to bring the phone back to verizon for warranty work) then that is your best bet. it will indeed wipe any and all voodoo whatnot from your phone.
Isn't it fine just to bring it back to stock DL09 Eclair, since that's the latest official OTA release? I don't see why you need to go back all the way to DI01 if you're planning on returning it. But I guess in the end of the day it won't really matter either way.
It doesn't really matter, all of the all in one vzw fascinate odins will work.
You technically don't _need_ to odin anything but the modem though.
For me, there was no lagfix and I had a working cwr/rom manager, so I did it in three quick steps.
1. Nandroid restore my DL09 setup.
2. Odin DL09 modem over EB01.
3. install a DL09 kernel from clockwork recovery and wipe the cache.
I was exactly where I was before with no headache.
Nandroid doesn't flash modem nor kernel.
However the all in ones may be faster if you are building from scratch (and absolutely the fastest route to stock). You should pick an all in one with the modem and kernel you want or you will have to do steps 2 & 3 either way.

I agree, but Froyo does make is a little more faster but with leaked ROMs they aren't fully tested, so that's why they are a little buggy, and thats why we have great devs here that fix em as soon as we find em

Cant restore eclair
Guys i have a bit strange problem. I'm trying to restore stock Eclair on my x8 but for some unknown reason i cant do it. Tried flashing it, tried with SEUS and no result plus it wont go into recovery wso i cant access root menu im running out of ideas help pls. Btw im running GingerDX v 0.26.
I got it to work. Sorry for disturbing guys. Thanks.
Ok, following instructions on theunlockr.com, I rooted using superoneclick v1.9.1. No problem there, was pretty easy. I backed up everything with mybackup app from the market, and am looking to see what these custom roms are all about. From the same site they have instructions to load a custom rom on your android phone using ROM Manager from the market. While researching that app a bit, I've seen a few posts saying not to use that app on the Epic cause it doesn't always work right. Granted most of the posts I seen were a couple months old, so maybe the app updates since then fixed that. But, also in their instructions, they never said anything about having to do the modem, or partition from rfs to ext. The Viper Trinity rom I was going to flash says "EXT4-RFS DK28 Dual" so I assume it will work with either file system. I'm sot sure which I have. I do know I'm on Froyo EC05 curently. Could I just put the zip in my sd root and flash with rom manager or do I need to get that odin program and do the three button reboot and all that? Do I have to somehow get DK28 on my phone, will it work with EC05? Thanks for your patients. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Don't use a DK28 ROM.
You need to flash the Rom through Clockworkmod, but I don't recommend any DK28 Rom's they are EXTREMELY outdated (based on a Froyo leak from December). Go into the development section and download the newest One Click Root and use that to properly re-root your phone.
If any of that confused you, How-To videos are here:

Lol...you bandit, I was just going to drop that link
Anyhow, all those videos are up to date.....watch'em!!!!
cool, thanks. I will watch that. Are there any roms you might recommend? I just seen viper quite a bit, also cyanogen seems to get mentioned a lot. Obviously performance is the main concern. Battery life, over clocked, tether, no bloat, etc. But something with nice features too. Curb appeal I guess you could say.
No as far as re-rooting, should I un-root with the program I used to root, or will the rooter you linked me to just overwrite/re-root what was already done?

The other popular choices are Bonsai (can't link, easy to find), midNIGHT (dev section), and Viper EB13 (dev section).
Op: paragraphs are your friend...

Also don't use ROM manager, it does not play well with the Epic.
Awesome! Thank you for the link to the videos. Everything worked with no problems at all.
Tried Midnight, and now currently running Syndicate Fully Loaded. I had flashed the Emotionless Beast theme over Midnight, and will probably put it over Syndicate today. Pretty nice theme. Viper looks pretty sweet but I guess its not ec05 ready yet, and in the video he said Cyanogen isn't quite done yet.
I watched the vid about flashing the Vision kernel and overclocking it. Would that be better than the Twilight kernel that Syndicate comes with?
Midnight is the most stable tom right now... when acs out our their bnext version, that'll be the best rom. By stable I mean tom working without a lot of reflashing an random freezes

Hey Guys,
Iam trying to flash my samsung vibrant to a new ROM. But what if I wont like it and want to go back to an original firmware my phone came with? I tried searching answers but there are multiple ones and I cant understand it so figured I ask here. Can I somehow backup my current version or download it so I can go back to just stock firmware that the phone came out the box?
Thanks for your help
You can make a back up with rom manager or you can learn to odin back to stock. Check the stickies or search for more info.

In order to make a backup, you need to be rooted, in order to root you need to have an update.zip file on your phone in order for the file to work you need to be on 2.1 firmware, you can probably find the file stickied in the development section, or q/a section.

Odin is the ticket. It doesn't do a backup - it restores your phone to it's fresh out of the box state. There are 2 files you need, but they're easy to find.
But blaqr0d is going to be right - once you start flashing you will only want to go back to stock if you encounter a problem.
Here's a vid I think is very helpful.
OP, please read my stickies in my signature. You will learn a lot and not waste others time.
